Definitely great quality katsu. Tried their new spicy cold noodles with katsu and although I'm not a big fan of cold thin noodles the spicy sauce and katsu were delicious. Service was excellent with the staff taking the food out to you even if you are sitting outside. Place was clean.

Delish delish delish!!! Katsu is super crispy and well cooked and they have so many options to pair it with. This was also the BEST strawberry Sando ive ever had. Been having dreams about it!!

We passed by this location and decided to give it a try after seeing they had some deals posted right by the front door. We decided to try the following: Tteokbokki with Katsu: Thought this was pretty decent for the price. The katsu was perfectly fried and moist. The sauce was not too spicy and have a good flavor to it. Curry with Katsu: It simply is just curry and katsu. There was nothing too special about this one. Katsu still nice and crispy on this one! Korean Gang Jung: We got these in the soy garlic flavor. It was fried chicken with panko and tossed in sauce. I would say this would be a great starter if the chicken on this wasn't as dry. Not sure if this was just small strips of chicken they cut up but it seemed really dry. Overall, I think this place was just average. Nothing really stood out about their service or their food. I don't think I would be returning back here since there are a ton of other food options in the same plaza. I know they do have daily deals if you may be interested in some other items. I can't remember what exactly but they do have a sign right inside the restaurant that seemed like a fair price.

Katsu Bar has a pretty wallet friendly lunch special. Each day of the week has a different special, all at $13 each. I will admit, it is a pretty good deal. We got the curry udon and the katsu udon. Not only is the deal great, but if you're on the go, food comes out pretty fast (about 5 minutes or so). The katsu udon as the name suggest, comes with a crispy hearty katsu sitting on udon and broth. Katsu was on the bit dry side but meaty and delicious. The udon also hit the spot as the day that we stopped by was cold and it had rained earlier in the week. Service was friendly and the interior is a bit small with a self serve drink dispenser. (BTW did I mention that the lunch special comes with a free drink?). Located in the Culver Plaza by 99 Ranch Market, this is definitely a convenient spot to visit if you're hungry and need something fast to satisfy your hunger.

Quick service! There are two screens you can order from which I liked, then you can sit and wait for the food to come out which they bring out to you. There's also outdoor seating. I got the curry chicken katsu udon and it was quite delicious. The chicken was crispy, I wish I had more! I wish I added an egg as I felt there was something missing from this.

TLDR: 2 stars just for to-go The portion size is definitely smaller for to-go orders, their mala tteokbokki has zero spice or mala flavor, and they don't put the katsu separately, which guarantees a soggy katsu. Make sure to dine-in if you want to go here

First time here for lunch. It seems like a pretty popular place in general. There was one table occupied inside and majority of patrons from this restaurant ate outside. The inside was very clean and bright. The staff was ok when taking our order. As for the food, we ordered a sandwich with waffle fries and Katsu plate. Even though we ate the food right away, it just seemed like it just wasn't hot enough. Additionally, there was not enough flavor and lack of seasoning on the food. Even with the dipping sauces, it just wasn't that tasty. We both did not finish our entrées. Probably will not return.

Katsu Bar serves a comforting and flavorful katsu curry. The cutlet was crispy and the curry was rich. If I were to return, though, I'd stick to the curry and skip the sandwich; the combination of flavors with the rosemary felt a bit off. Service was great, and I enjoyed dining outside in the patio area. Overall, still a solid place when you're craving something warm and hearty.

Service was great, the staff and Chef were very welcoming! The food had tons of flavor, made to a crisp and we got to try different things just to say we had it. Hands down the Rosemary Sando sandwich was on point! There's tables inside and plenty outside. Tons of parking space as well in this plaza. Menu is very simple, I would definitely come back here to try other things off their menu for sure!

Whether you're craving classic favorites or want to try bold and new flavors, Katsu Bar has it all. With so many variations of katsu, sandos, and Korean fusion dishes, it was hard to decide what to get as we wanted to try them all! What we tried: Yubu Pockets Rosemary Katsu Sando Curry Katsu Plate Shrimp Katsu Rice Bowl Calamari Katsu Tteokbokki- (love the added noodles) Cheesecake They offer daily specials and have indoor and plenty of outdoor seating available.

Went here for the first time the other day and I ordered the Rosemary Katsu sandwich and the Yubu 4 set. The sandwich was good and the katsu sauce I got with it paired well. The problem I had was with the Yubu set, namely the shrimp one. I typically don't have an issue with smaller sized shrimp still having the vein, especially if they are fully cooked, but I feel like this is noticeably unhygienic. The entire tract covers the side of the shrimp and almost 60% of the shrimp on my Yubu looked like the one in the photo. Just wanted to bring attention to anyone wanting to order the shrimp here to just be cautious.

Expectations may have been a bit high due to the popularity and good word about Hako, but I…read moreregularly am on the hunt for good Japanese katsu and curry, so have tried some pretty good katsu in my days. First off, it's a pretty great value. You get a set meal for a very good price these days, since the katsu meals come with their homemade katsu sauce (tastes like a slightly sweet and sour peanut satay), cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, and pickles. If you're looking for value only, this is great. Even the appetizers and sushi rolls are reasonable. I like that you can add on extra curry or some pieces of sushi or gyoza with your katsu or udon meal, and can add more than one. We saw a lot of takeout orders going out, though you don't get the soup. - Agedashi Tofu A light, popcorn crisp fry with sturdy cubes of tofu with enough dashi to cover them all. Respectable appetizer if you like tofu. All the pieces are very hot inside. - Hako Tonkatsu The pork cutlet is pounded so flat and enormous. I added a side of mild curry, which tasted like a good normal Japanese curry, and the additional gyoza were standard grocery filling (seemed to have more of a baked than fried texture on the skin). The nutty satay-like sauce went well with the katsu, but the curry was better. The rice was good and fluffy, and the pickles added an acidic balance. The miso soup was on the salty side. I liked how light and refreshing the cabbage salad was, though I prefer other dressings over this Thousand Island-like creamy one. The katsu itself was a bit disappointing, as it was devoid of moisture and the crisp could have been better. - Chicken Katsu The chicken was slightly better than the pork, as it retained a little more moisture and was just a bit more tender. However, all other aspects were the same. We tried the spicy curry for this plate, and it had the same taste as the regular curry, but with a bite. If you like pain more than taste when you eat spicy foods, I guess that'd be why you choose the spicy here. Considering it took nearly an hour for us to get a table on a random weekday night (seated close to 8pm), I definitely was expecting the food to taste much better. The tables are situated very close to each other, too, so you'll probably have a neighbor within your elbow space. It's not even a contender for a majority of katsu places in NorCal or Hawaii. But if you're in the area and have a craving and want a lot of food for the price, it's fine. If you have leftovers, they will give you an extra new side of their sauce, which is sweet.

I've been to their Rodeo 39 location before and loved it, so having one at the UTC is perfect for me because of how close it is. The Irvine location is very nice with a clean dining room and good music. The employees at both locations have always been helpful and courteous. I've now tried the Chicken Katsu (on Monday) and the Pork Belly (tonight), and honestly, I still can't decide which one I like more. The chicken was incredibly juicy with the perfect crunch, and the pork belly... omg. So good. The curry was another highlight--super flavorful and tasted just like the curry I enjoyed during my time in Japan. And here's a tip: the best value is to make every plate a combo (+ miso & drink). You get more variety for the price, and it's absolutely worth it. Next time, I'm going for the beef belly plate, and I think this place will be on my rotation.

The portion of chicken cutlet is generous but I wish they had more options for sides or toppings! Just a quick not that this is not your sit down kind of restaurant but more like a boba, quick serve kitchen where you put in your order at a computer up front and your name gets called when your food is ready to be picked up.

Been frequenting coco for over a decade and have dined many times at the Torrance, Irvine, and LA locations. This was my second time at this location since they opened, both visits take out. First visit service was very slow, I waited a couple minutes in the restaurant before anyone even appeared at the front stand and once she did she didn't have the friendly energy I'm used to being greeted with when dining at Coco Ichibanya. Seemed very uninterested and straight faced during our interaction which didn't enhance my experience. Second visit here was last night. My friends and I ordered all our meals with cheese added on for an extra $1.50 each. Unfortunately we were disappointed to find that there was barely a sprinkle of cheese added to each of our meals. The keema CHEESE fries was the most egregious part, there was a small sprinkle of cheese in the top left corner of the fries and then literally nowhere else. We've gotten this order so many times from other locations and it's never been served this way before. Unfortunately this was a delivery order and there wasn't much we could do to rectify the situation. Definitely impacted the overall quality of the meal, especially the Keema cheese fries as the name would suggest it's supposed to come with cheese all over it not just on a few of the fries in one corner. As far as our curry, it didn't feel fair that we spent an additional $1.50 each for the cheese add on when we got the small amount we received. If this was my first time dining at Coco I would've just assumed they skimp on the cheese at this restaurant, but having dined at Coco so many times I know that this was absolutely a mistake or an oversight by this new location. Overall the food is good but it's absolutely not on par with the other locations yet. For $155 we weren't satisfied with what we received. We ordered the cold noodles combo with jokbal (pork hock) for $30.95. Portion wise, it's SOLID for two people. The cold noodles were refreshing and really hit the spot, especially if you like that clean, slightly tangy flavor. The jokbal was very decent.
