First time visiting Takumi Sushi and I immediately want to come back. We ordered a bunch of different items - appetizers, sashimi, sushi, rolls and more. We ordered the Soft Shell Crab and Salmon Blue Crab and these were delicious! I absolutely loved how lightly battered the soft shell crab was and it was quite meaty. The dipping sauce made it even more delicious. The Salmon Blue Crab is a fan fav. The salmon was so smooth and fatty and the blue crab was flavorful. I could have eaten the whole dish all by myself. Takumi Sushi has a new style sashimi category that has 5 slices of sashimi. We ordered the Madai (Japanese Snapper) that is served with white truffle oil, lemon, yuzu and black truffle salt. Very unique and the truffle flavor did not overpower the snapper. We also ordered the Bluefin Tuna, Fatty Tuna, Scallop, Sea Urchin and Eel Sushi. All were pretty fresh, but the Fatty Tuna and the Scallop were the best. For the rolls, we ordered the Mountain Hand Roll (no rice roll) and the Baby Lobster (Crawfish) Roll (baked roll). I love that the Mountain Hand Roll uses a light wrapper and all you taste is fish. This has tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp tempura and spicy crab. Definitely another fav from the menu. All the fish was super fresh. The Baby Lobster Roll is a crab, avocado and cucumber roll and then topped with baked crawfish.Very flavorful and saucy. We were given great customer service throughout the meal, and everyone came to check in on us multiple times throughout our meal. The servers and the manager were all very friendly. They also gave us some recommendations. The restaurant reminds me of Japan because of the Osaka-inspired decor. Traditional Japanese accents and warm wooden tones. I like how intimate the dining area was set up with booths and the tables further away from each other. There is also a bar area where you can sit and interact with the chefs while they work. Tried this spot the other day for lunch, and I was seriously impressed with their selection and how good the sushi was. The restaurant is also beautifully decorated, which made the whole experience even better. We ordered the salmon and tuna sashimi, and it was absolutely delicious. The fish was so fresh and practically melted in my mouth. We also tried several of their no-rice options, and everything we ordered was really good. We tried enough of a variety to know that this is definitely a spot worth coming back to. And then there's Nikki! Not only is the food delicious and worth the drive, but the staff is also so welcoming and friendly. We had the pleasure of meeting Nikki, who is such a sweetie. The restaurant is small and cozy with outdoor tables. We ordered a variety of nigiri and everything was fresh and delicious. Not worth the wait, the sushi's and their hot dishes pretty fresh though. It's just that the wait was 90 mins on a Saturday night and there are places with similar prices points. Their nigiri are pretty cheap, toro was only $5.75 per piece but it was pretty thin and tasted kind of warm. Red snapper and yellow tail was decent but also warm. Beef teriyaki was the best thing. Takumi was awesome! Definitely a popular place as we had about a half hour wait but well worth it. The inside ambience is tiny but a super cool vibe and the bar was nice so you could easily talk to one another. Our favorite roll was the In&Out Salmon roll by far- the fish was super flavorful and enhanced but the two sauces on top and the two bites you got between the creaminess of the avocado and the freshness of the salmon were awesome. I have not had a bad experience here at Takumi and it is now my go to spot for sushi! I always have to order the sashimi combos, baked mussels, crispy rice, and the tako wasabi! Came across Takumi from TikTok as it was named a great, affordable sushi spot. Was in the area and decided to give it a try. And we are so glad we did!! What I loved most is that the sushi fish is so well proportioned to the rice balls. Salmon sushi was the favorite due to it being so buttery. The restaurant is located in a typical strip mall tucked away from the main plaza entrance. The interior is decorated very well that sets the mood and vibe of being in a local sushi joint in Osaka. For a Sunday dinner, the place was certainly packed. I would definitely recommend putting your name on the Yelp waitlist before arriving to reduce the wait time. By doing that, we were promptly seated right after checking in with the hostess. Even though if you are seated at the bar, you won't interact with the chefs as they only process the order through the servers. So I would recommend to forego the sushi bar and get seated at the table which is more comfortable. As for the food, the place offered the usual fare and your typical nigiri and rolls. The fish was ok, with nothing to really wow you. The uni (sea urchin) nigiri is a little dated and was not that fresh. If your preferences are rolls instead of nigiri, then there are quite more selection with the majority of the rolls are the typical california rolls, topped with various types of fish, shrimp, crawfish, etc. and an abundance of mayo sauce. Overall, I would say it's a decent place for a regular night out for sushi, but nothing to really wow you. One note... I did not realize the server accidentally overcharged the dinner bill until I went home and took a look of the receipt. I did call the following day to inform them, and the manager, Daniel, was happy to adjust the bill to the correct amount, and in addition, gave me a $20 gift card for the inconvenience. This is by far our number 1 sushi spot! We have been coming back pretty consistently for the past 2 months, and we're still craving it. This is a great date spot, or even a good family meal. We suggest joining the waitlist before arriving as the place gets packed pretty fast. We always get the salmon nigiri, the pepper salmon, the eel, and my 1 non-negotiable tamago. The rice to fish ratio is perfect, and the rice isn't super vinegary and sweet, which makes the fish stand out. The salmon is buttery, tender, thick, and delicious. It does not give off any fishy taste whatsoever. The pepper salmon is perfectly seared with a slight kick from the black pepper. Service is always attentive and quick. The sushi chefs were very busy making rolls and do not interact with the customers. Our waitress took our order. The sushi rolls come in a smaller size but less than half the price of a regular roll. It is great if you want to try many different rolls. I asked for the garlic edemame and cuccumber salad. Both items were six dollars. WoW!! That is a steal for what you get. I entered "best sushi in Orange County" and this was number 7. I chose it because it was the least distance (even though it was 12 miles.) I saw the stars & the number of reviews and took a chance without reading anything. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised. The sushi is all by the piece and the rolls are generally 4 pieces. This is the first time I really enjoyed this option because the prices were great. Sushi is $3-$4 a piece on average and the rolls are around $8-$9.
