I'm not certain why this place is so highly rated. It's a fast casual restaurant with tons of seating but that's basically where the pros of this place ends. The server didn't know what cuts of meat were present in these two bowls though he did recommend the wagyu specialties. The curry flavor was decent and had a little bit of kick to it but it felt like swallowing a mouthful of salt. There were very few wagyu pieces in the curry and the few that were in there were unremarkable. The steak bowl was better in the sense that it wasn't overly salty and flavor of the chili crisps was good. However, the meat was a little tough to chew - something I feel you shouldn't be able to say with any cut of wagyu. Overall, I wouldn't come back. This spot is located in Beverly Hills where there is street parking all around. Reservations are highly recommended as they tend to get pretty packed during peak hours. Wifey and I had dinner reservations at 6pm and were seated right away upon arrival. Inside, they have some cool and playful anime figurines alongside their modern and dimly lit interior. They have seating indoors and outdoors with about 9-12 tables for seating. They have an extensive menu of different curry dishes, sandwiches, burgers, and fries. Wifey and I got a spread of their Curry Fries, Wagyu Burger, Roasted Duck Curry, and Sparkling Uji Matcha White Strawberry Drink. Everything we had was beyond flavorful and delicious! Keep in mind that you can only order the limited Roasted Duck Curry during dinner time on weekends so I would definitely recommend getting that if you can. Was quite excited for this place and i really really try to like it. But it's not easy to find compliment for such an 'okay' experience. The katsu portion is good, though i wish a more juicy chicken and hopefully the bottom batter is as crispy as the top batter for other customers. Came here around 5pm on a Friday with my friend and was seated right away. We ordered the katsu curry which came in a reasonable amount of time. The curry was really creamy/smooth with vegetables, and had an interesting taste!! It reminded me of almost a pumpkin-y taste. It was not spicy at all and was overall really delicious. The meat was also a standout--the pork katsu was really soft and juicy. It was a little on the rare side with a lot of fatty parts, but personally I found it okay. The meal is a little on the pricier side but it made for a second meal. First off, this location is in LA so just know the parking can be horrible. Next, the restaurant is decently sized but can get packed right away. They do have reservations so I recommend getting one right away. The ambiance is chill with Japanese vibes, especially with the figurines all over the place. For the food, we had their chicken katsu curry, the wagyu rice bowl, and the beef curry. Each were decently sized and split between three people. The tastes were good but I was expecting more of that curry taste. It wasn't bland, but it just needed to be a bit more flavorful. The dumplings were also okay but weren't like "omg I need to order these again." The fries were decent too and be careful with one of their sauces as it can be spicy. Finally made the trek across Los Angeles to Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills to see Chefs Shin and Liga in the kitchen cooking up some scrumptious food! I held off on eating too much food because I really really wanted to wait to devour the roasted duck entree which came out last.. but I couldn't hold out. First off, I am not a fries gal, but the curry fries here are SO addicting paired with the aioli sauce that is provided with it. We almost finished the whole plate of waffle fries.. I think 2 pieces made it to the togo box. The curry here is made with love, from scratch -- this is definitely not boxed curry sauce and is much lighter in spices than typical Japanese curry that we are accustomed to. We had the Wagyu Beef Curry which was full of large chunks of wagyu that had soaked in all the flavors of the curry sauce. I ordered a side of grilled maitake mushroom which has a nice meatiness to it, which pairs very well with the curry. BF ordered the wagyu steak rice bowl, which was topped with a lovely soft egg and butter and a sprinkle of fried toasted garlic and yakiniku sauce. I only had a bite but the toasted garlic definitely adds a nice crunch and flavor to the entire dish. Our last dish was the roasted duck.. we ate all of the delicious dry aged roasted duck breast but ate too many fries (and bf ate most of his wagyu steak rice bowl).. we didn't even make it to the curry or the duck confit (or even the rice!)-- so lots of leftovers to go. But I enjoyed every bite I did eat at the restaurant, the skin has a nice roast to it and just the right amount of fat on the breast. So good.. Next time I'm order two.. Came here the other day after failing miserably at an escape room. Needed some comfort food and it definitely felt comfortable. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately, though there were plenty of seats available at 9pm. Something fun, at the table, they have UNO to play while you wait for your food. Great way to pass the time and lose friends while doing it! To ease our pain of the escape room, we started with some curry Fries, which are waffle fries with a curry dipping sauce. The curry flavor was on point and the fries hit the spot. For entrees, we tried a little of everything. The buffalo chicken sando had a good amount of chicken, especially in ratio to the bun, and while being good, didn't really stand out in any way. Had the restaurant week set menu a few weeks ago. My friends and I have been craving Japanese curry so this was perfect. We came on a weekday after work and were seated quickly. I ordered the cucumber salad but was able to try the nori curry fries my friend ordered. The salad was a standard Japanese sunomono, which was good, but I would recommend getting the nori curry fries if you want to try something more unique. The waffle cut fries were hot and crispy, with nori seasoning sprinkled on top and a curry dip. Super yummy! Each appetizer also came with a miso soup. Chubby curry Japanese Wagyu entree was delicious - exactly what you want when you want the comfort of a warm bowl of Japanese curry. However, I think I would opt for the chicken katsu kare next time. One of my friends ordered this and the chicken katsu was SO juicy and tender and crispy with the panko crust. I don't usually order chicken katsu because it can often be dry, but I would order this over the wagyu next time! The rice came with some pickled radish (I think) and crispy broccoli that was seasoned really well. For dessert, I chose the yuzu mochi ice cream. I liked it - there was a little bitterness maybe from the zest. My friend didn't like it as much as me, but I'm usually a more adventurous eater. A note is that we were sat towards the front / patio area where people waiting for a table would stand very close, and there was a group that was quite loud while we were trying to enjoy our food. But that's kind of just a city thing. If you want a more intimate experience, I would suggest waiting for a table more inside the establishment. Overall, we had great food and a wonderful dinner. And I was happy to be able to try the restaurant week menu. There was also an unlimited wagyu curry lunch and a duck curry I saw on the menu that I would be very interested to come back to try. All Chubby Concepts I've tried (X Pot and Chubby Cattle) have been really amazing, from the decor inside to the service and food. The donkatsu was just ok and nothing to write home about. Plus the curry lacked the proper pungency. The fries was quite salty; as such, I rarely dipped them in the curry dip provided. Their tonkatsu and chicken katsu are really tender and I would recommend those. The curry fries are so good and a must order. There are both waffle fries and curly fries on the menu, but they only really have waffle fries. I'm not a fan of their menu item Chubby Curry. It is a Japanese Worcester Caramelized Dark Cocoa Curry and I prefer their regular curry. Their wagyu dumpling is forgettable. I visited Cubby Curry yesterday using a DineLA deal. As someone from Japan, I was excited to try the curry, expecting the same quality as back home. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. For some reason, the curry came with miso soup, and the rice and curry were served separately, making it feel like I was eating a tonkatsu set meal with curry on the side. The miso soup tasted like it was from a packet, the curry lacked depth, and the sauce separated into water and oil after a short while. The location and interior of the restaurant were nice, and they seemed to put effort into things like the to-go bags, which I appreciated. However, the quality of the curry was a letdown. So, this place was good. Had the Chicken Katsu Kare, which is what I usually get at Coco Ichibanya and Hurry Curry. The chicken was very good. Extra crunchy. And the portion was good, too. The sauce was a little sweet, though. Not in a bad way, just sweeter than when I've had Japanese curry before, both in L.A. and in Tokyo. Though not New York; it kind of reminded me of the curry at Go Go Curry in Manhattan. As for other aspects, the staff were nice and attentive, and the place itself was also nice. Kind of homey, like it had been there a while. Again, if I may brag like a jerk, it reminded me of this ramen place in Tokyo I went to. Now, parking in this neighborhood is a crap shoot. I got there a few minutes before noon, and just happened to roll up as someone was leaving. Not sure where else to park around there. I went right when they opened today since I found myself in the area around the time they opened. I got there about 20 minutes before they opened and had to wait for a bit while they were getting ready, but I got to check out the area a bit and also got to check out their menus. I ordered from the DineLA menu since it was my first time out there. Food was on point, I was a little sad to hear that they didn't have the nori for the fries, but it's hard to turn down seasoned waffle fries. Next, I ordered the chubby curry and I can say it's definitely full of flavor. I could probably do without the blackened broccoli. Maybe it works better mixed in with the curry itself though? I opted to order a Moshi Sparkling Uji Matcha White Strawberry drink and found that it was also quite refreshing. I've never seen a drink like that around, so I was curious and I feel like I definitely made the right choice. Took a bit to grow on me, but I'm glad I didn't give up on it after the first sip or two. Ambiance is pretty chill, especially sitting next to the street. Wait staff was also very understanding when I let them know I needed to step out to feed the meter real quick. Last, but definitely not least, the yuzu mochi. My goodness, it tasted absolutely incredible. Their DineLA menu is such a steal. It doesn't come with a drink, but 3 solid courses for $25 is actually an amazing deal considering how much the curry costs outside of DineLA. I found this place on DineLA and thought I'd give it a try! The package came with curry fries + entree + mochi. My boyfriend and I both got curry fries and different curries so we can try out more things on the menu. However, the first thing that caught my attention was the ambiance of the restaurant. I'd say this is one of the best tonkastsu curry in LA, as a tonkatsu curry critic after enjoying several excellent ones in Hawaii and Japan. Udon was good too. I liked the matsutake a lot.
