My first time going to Chubby's was when my wife's car blew white smoke. My first thought was a worn out hose and they thought the same thing. It was until they pressure tested the system and found a leak in the radiator. I got the news over the phone so i was hesitant that this was the case. I was in a road trip with my family from the South bay area to Bakersfield . I'm so glad my car broke down were it did on the 5 Fwy , I had to exit the fwy and I found this place with great reviews on and I was glad to make the best decision ever to stop by and bring it over to this place. As soon as I pull in I'm not sure if the guys name was Chubby , but he said will get you taken care of and will get the car checked out on the spot didint even wait more than 4 min for someone to look at it, and right away even though they were extremely busy ( Had my 4 kids with me) Chubby sent Braulio immediately to diagnose the problem with my Dodge Durango and let me tell you he was amazing. Took the engine cover off and a few other things and added water to the radiator to see where it was leaking and diagnosed the problem within minutes. He showed me the problem as soon as he spotted it . Found out that the thermostat housing has a big hole in it. They got the part ordered right away didint even had me waiting for a long time , and Louie got the part installed really quickly they even cleaned up the throttle for me , went above and beyond. They had me back on the road between 1 hour to get everything done and continued to my destination.. made it out there safely and got back home with out any problems. I can't thank you guys enough. You guys are the best and I really appreciate you guys for all of your hard work, being very friendly and nice, especially you guys hooked me up and gave me a really great price everything you guys did for $185. I cannot recommend this place enough. My POS car broke down on the freeway and I had to tow it somewhere close by to get it looked at. By some extreme good luck, I chose this place out of the any others in the area. Hey, I'm going on a trip up to S. F... maybe I should clean my 122k engine for the 1st time the night before (buzzer sounds). Almost got it right with the plastic covering of the essential "vulnerables" (another louder buzzer). I think it was the Armour All that did me in though. So on one of the hottest days of the year to date, and wearing a black t (might as well/3rd buzzer) I headed on over to Chubby's, as it was within striking distance and they were quite helpful over the phone. After a brief initiation ceremony--watching them (seemed to likely to be Chubby and one of his apostles) tweak and rev. an exposed engine, early 60's era (best guess) truly sick Riviera affair--Chubby, and more apostles came over to my sodden 2008 jetta, where I fessed up and impressed upon them "I get to see my older son once a year..." and how my trip is hanging in the balance--weaving a succinct but poignant tale of woe, to battled-scared and weary ears to be sure, featuring that particular brand of merciless calamity which befalls the most crafty and cunning of us do-it-your-selfers--AND, Chubby and dope crew never quit until everything was perfection and calm. This perfect and comprehensive repair, included yours truly and his Vdub, holding the magic diagnosis tablet, reading out the tech/error codes in the shotgun seat (with C. and then son) as the all variables were identified and eliminated--where does this sort of visceral, hands-on teamwork ever happen? FYI: The wait for the part to arrive was entirely reasonable. Chubby's son is the "office guy"--an extremely helpful and capable mechanic in his own right--handled all of the payment necessities, and cut me quite the deal. And they had me... you know. They good people. Because of the delay, I missed out on all of the lovely 580 traffic up north and my drive was far more pleasant than the distance I needed to cover should have permitted. These guys are family business gods and I'm returning for my back rotor service, which I won't "jumpstart" myself. read more

I can't say thank you enough to Chubby and his team, they provided exceptional customer service & are extremely reasonably priced. I went in yesterday & was going to return later in the week for the repairs, however, Chubby insisted I at least do partial of the repair due to the condition of my car. I would have put myself at risk driving in the poor condition my car was in. He was honest & expressed concern for my safety & after making transportation arrangements for myself I left my car. This is by far the best automotive shop I've ever been to. .. i have a 1971 chevy c10 with a built 5.7 sbc that started running relly bad.. soo i stopped by its down the street from my house they drove and inspected my truck chubby the owner did who personally inspects all the vehicles he drove it tunned my carb down told me to take it home remove the spark plugs 1 or all and bring them to him if not he gave me a spark plug of what the ones i have should look like shurely enough i had installed expensive 100 dollar spark plugs when i needed regular ones that were like 25 but then he ordered them from his shop and i piked them up at the store for $15 he did not charge me anything for looking at my truck this shop went way above and beyond and were supper friendly all of them verry family oriented bussines and you feel it as soon as you talk to who ever the first person you see is! read more

This guy is the epitome of a shady automotive shop, they ruined my car and now my driveway is full of oil, the new parts that were replaced and charged me for were used parts from different make model vehicles told to me by ford, and bolted together with bolts from a Japanese car, which shredded into my motor. Went in because my check engine light was on in my Infiniti g35 coupe they plugged in the code reader found out what was the problem explained in detail what was the problem and what need to be done 2 hrs later check engine light off car running back to normal Chubby and his son have excellent customer service honest about the work and price over all I'm very satisfied with this shop .. I see a lot of reviews for Chubby's that are either very positive or very negative. Hopefully this will be read as a fair and balanced one. I gave them a 1970s car to work on for over 4 months. I had an old car that would not start and had been neglected for several years (my laziness and lack of funds). There were MANY things wrong with my car; but, I really wanted to keep the car and start driving it again. Anyway, Chubby agreed to work on it in between other jobs; and, that was fine with me. At the end of 4 months, they had replaced the battery, starter, carburetor, completely rebuilt the brakes, completely rebuilt the front suspension and fixed a lot of electrical issues. On top of all that, they sent the car to a body shop for some pretty major repairs (welded in new rear quarter panel). They tracked down and fixed a bunch of other issues that made the car run and drive better and safer. Everything they did I agreed to ahead of time after talking with Chubby or his son Nick. Please note, I am NOT a mechanic; but, I have worked on this particular car many times over years of ownership; so, I already knew most of the things that were wrong with my own car and fully understood what it would take to make them right...I just didn't have the skill and tools to do it myself. I always felt that Chubby and Nick were telling me the truth about my car. Now, some minor negative comments: they do seem a bit disorganized at times; and, I can appreciate some of the other reviewers who complained that it took them longer than it should have to troubleshoot, order parts, get back to working on the car after parts come in, etc. The reality is, these guys get a ton of repeat business and are really busy trying to make all their customers happy. I would advise anyone to talk to them and get clear expectations on how much time they are going to need to get you fixed. However, when I think about the total price I paid for all of this work, I realize I could not have gotten a better deal for this much quality work ANYWHERE else. All of the work they did was absolutely necessary and reasonably priced. At the time I am writing this, I've had my car back from their shop for over 3 months and it still starts and drives the way it should every time! read more

I've been going to Chubby for years and he's a great guy. But the work lately has been shoddy and Chubby has been unable to get things working in a timely manner. Repair times on some problems have stretched into months and months. The latest one -- he rebuilt an engine for me - a four month process ending in September. The day after I got it back, it started smoking really badly. Now, over 2 months later, he just opened it up last week and hasn't ordered the parts he needs to repair it. Update: He put it back together but it still doesn't run right. Not willing to offer a refund. I'm just out $2k. read more

Very shady work. I had my axle replaced at Chubbys Automotive last summer and it turned out that it was not meant for my car because it wasnt sealing. It was leaking transmission fluid which played a huge factor that messed up my transmission. I do not recommend. read more
