He was very thorough in explaining what needed to be done (we later found out that the previous home owners thought they were do it yourselfers to the point that they are the ones who installed the sprinkler system) and why. I never felt like he was trying to sell me anything or talk around me. It took him and his crew two days to finish the job. He was very upfront with how level they could get my lawn (mostly, but there's still a slight incline because the last company didn't remove all the roots they were supposed to) and it looks great. All the sprinklers work and the new grass is just starting to sprout. I am definitely using him again for the other landscaping projects we have!

I called every two days leaving messages and sending emails. No one ever called me back. I looked on Yelp (like I should have done in the first place) and I found Hendy's Lawn Care. I could not be happier the other company never called me back. Jim called me back the very next day. He set an appointment to meet at my mother-in-laws house, we agreed on a price and he started 5 minutes after he arrived at her house. Wow, is that easy or what? He is a very, very, very knowledgeable person when it comes to lawn care. And to top it off to be as nice as he is, is a huge plus in my book. He took the time to go over every aspect of what he was doing. The best part is when he cleaned up EVERYTHING. He even cleaned up stuff around her garage that had been there before he got there. It will bring back your lawn from the dead and make it brand new again without pulling the old grass and putting sod which ends up dead anyways because nobody uses the right sod. My lawn now looks like a golf course fairway thanks to him and it makes sense. Golf courses thatch and aerate. (the good ones do). Well in this case, count me as part of the family because that's how they treated us. They were very concerned about how things would work together and kept offering ideas on how they could do it different ways that would work better with the rest of the house and how to make it more fail resistant to usual household wear and tear. They were always prompt and very concerned about working around our available times. They aren't the cheapest, they aren't the most expensive, but they start as quickly as possible, finish as quickly as possible and they strive to make you as happy as possible with the results.

We agreed to meet to go over our ideas on how we would like the front yard to look. Anthony took our ideas and made them into reality. Beautiful rock to replace the grass we had on the parkway, new st. augustine sod, and an amazing flower bed along the house. He even recommended the perfect sprinkler nozzles that were more efficient and covered the area perfectly. He was always on time and polite. At the end of the day he would show us what he had accomplished and answered any and all questions or concerns we had. They are bad at communicating, flaky, don't stand behind their work, and once they have your money they will ghost you. Two years ago I had South Bay Lawn Care put in turf, clear out my side walk way to put in concrete pavers, and white rocks. They are very communicative when they want your money, but not so much after. Many times they said they would show up and just didn't. Yes, the weather wasn't cooperating, but a call would have been nice. When they put in the turf, I was quoted for a nice clean turf, not multiple pieces of turf. I only realized this because I started seeing weeds coming up in between the pieces. I wasn't so upset about the large piece they told me about, I was upset about the small piece they didn't mention. I think they ran out of material and just tried to make it work without having to get more. If they told me this, I would've told them to get me a solid piece. We agreed on concrete pavers a certain size, and then they tried to put in standard ones from Home Depot. After they installed the correct pavers, they told me they didn't realize the height would mess with my door, so what did they do? They just decided on their own to make that last paver really low so it doesn't hit the door. How hard is it to call me? Or ask me? I'm inside my house. Once it started raining, I realized they didn't put the weed barrier all along the side walk way as agreed upon. They skimped out and didn't do what they said they were going to do. I paid extra for a drain to be put in, and after the first big rain I was still getting the back lawn area flooded. When I texted them videos and asked what could be done...ghosting. The last thing that really got me angry was they left a lot of loose nails all over the turf so my dog ended up finding them and chewing on them. When I told him what happened, the response was...ok. These guys are really unprofessional, incompetent, and really bad at communicating. Save headache and find someone else. You'll regret using South Bay Lawn Care.

I searched Yelp twice and last night I finally made contact with multiple gardeners. I quickly learned that I do not have a mow & blow type of yard. After multiple exchanges with multiple gardeners, the Hardrock team came by and gave me an estimate. Chris was the translator for Gabino. My service needs have conditions. 1) Rinse the blades of the lawnmower twice: before starting and before moving to either front or back. Rationale is to limit cross contamination from the weeds of others and/or my St. Augustine. Before hiring a gardener 9 years ago, my lawn was fairly nice. Over time, my lawn became full of weeds and crab grass. The issue was that the gardener was going from lawn to lawn. The seeds from the lawns of others ended up destroying my lawn. The Team agreed to rinse before and again at the exchange from back to front or front to back. I have multiple flowerbeds, newly planted boxwood trees, and prefab concrete stones. I am fully aware of the amount of detail that is needed to maintain my lawn, which is why I was in search of a qualified gardener. I needed a gardener who k owe about lawns and also knows the difference between a fern and a weed. ‍ Gabino gave me his price; $120 a month for weekly service. Knowing that no-weekly rate is $60 a month, I found this price to be fair. I asked when they could start? They said now. My last gardener only accepted cash or check. It's nice finding a gardener who accepts electronic forms of payment. Gabino speaks Spanish. Chris speaks English. Gabino is very knowledgeable about lawns. He let me know that my newly installed sod is being over watered, which is why it's turning brown. He suggested that I reduce watering to every other day vs. daily. He noticed that I have a large dog and recognized the worn path from my dog. Gabino suggested that I resume blocking off the back lawn, allowing additional time for the newly planted sod to mature. These pics were taken today, after today's lawn maintenance service. I am happy with the results. I am thankful for Yelp, who provided me with a resource to find a good gardener. Our home looked like it would never get serviced for landscaping. Weeds would grow 2-3 feet high. Yet she was telling us they were servicing the property every 2 weeks. My renters would tell us they were not showing up! I paid her anyway trusting her and giving her the benefit of the doubt. Really wish I could have my money back. Finally after not showing up to the property for 3 weeks one month, I cancelled her service. Then she always bugs about payment. "Pay me now, when are you going to pay, stop being cheap" are some things she has said to me. I ALWAYS paid on time. Never missed a payment or invoice. When I told her I wanted to cancel all services from that day on, she went to my property after and then tried to charge me for that service. Even when I asked her to CANCEL SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. She responded with "Stop being so difficult. You're being cheap just pay me." What kind of business is run by someone who speaks to others that way?! Just save your time and money....and yourself a headache. Go with someone else!
