    Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries!

Stopped in for a Bacon Cheeseburger and fries for lunch. Firstly "looks phenomenal" and taste was great, you can tell this place uses fresh ingredients. I added bacon to my burger always a worthy choice to any cheeseburger. Service was also great and the wait was not bad. Chuckwagon Big Pine is definitely worth the stop on your way through this little town.

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and there was live music playing, which made the atmosphere even more charming. We ordered the Big Pine Mega Platter (says for 2), and it was just perfect for my husband, teenage son, and I to share without any leftovers. All the meats were juicy and tender! Potato salad was good and mac was nice and creamy! We love the spicy bbq sauce as well! Overall everything was delicious and food came out fast. Really glad we stopped in, and we're already looking forward to coming back again soon.

The first red flag was that we wanted to call with a question and found that the voicemail response and website were both borderline hostile and disdainful of customers. The location was clean and the female cashier was very nice, which is why my review is two stars and not one. The food was odd. I can't understand why anyone is rating this highly except that people are happy when they're on vacation and food tastes better that way. We shared a platter and were completely underwhelmed by all of the meat. The rolls and mac and cheese were okay and that's what I ended up filling up on because the meat was depressing. The two spicy BBQ sauces both had a weird metallic flavor. There was a TV showing a slideshow of dogs at the restaurant eating BBQ from someone wearing black latex gloves which was kind of cute until I started wondering if they change their gloves after feeding all these dogs from them. But more importantly, I saw a sign complaining about inflation and fuel prices being the reason for an increase in costs, along with Trump merchandise for sale by the drinks. A tiny bit of online digging confirmed that this business was fully MAGA in the past with flags and signs but got a bit quieter about it in 2024. I believe it's important to know if and when we're spending our money to support people who actively vote for the destruction of the planet, human rights, and the fabric of our country. I absolutely would not have spent any money here if I had known. **Update** Before I wrote my review, I had already seen that the business owner appears very sensitive to any critique. He seems compelled to respond to anyone he views as "attacking his business," or in my case, being "hurtful," on a website built for customers to review businesses, which is what I did. This business owner has chosen to suggest that I must be wrong for not liking the food, because other people give it five stars. He then says the Trump hot sauce he's selling is just "for the kick of it," I suppose just like some folks sell items with Confederate flags or swastikas because it's such a fun little joke. Hilarious! My concerns about hygiene with food prep staff hand-feeding barbecue to customers' dogs were not addressed in his response. Finally, rather than denouncing any suggestions of political allegiance to Trump or specifically addressing the claim that this business was apparently displaying Trump signs prior to 2024, he calls me "immature" and that people like me are why Trump won and that I'm going to be targeted and I should "be careful." He has said all of this on a publicly viewable website that many potential customers will check before coming to his restaurant. That sure sounds like something to consider before eating food from this place!

My friend and I both ordered summer roll (pork and lettuce wrapped in rice paper) and spring rolls (shrimp and lettuce wrapped in rice paper) at $12 for 4 rolls. The Vietnamese owner lady was very nice and let us order them as a mixture of 2 spring rolls and 2 summer rolls as one order. Freshly made to order. They look and taste very "home made", also on the smaller side compared to what I'm used to (lots of Vietnamese restaurants near where I live), and these rolls do not come with rice noodles as many others I'm used to. All that aside, we took our very first bite a few hours later and my friend immediately felt stands of hard thin strings in her mouth, and spitting out SEVERAL STRANDS of short hair, which is not the same color as her own long hair. Shocking. Very shocking. My rolls were just fine with no foreign substances, however the more we eat the more we are getting grossed out from the encounter...she didn't finish eating that roll with hair in it and continue to eat 2 out of the 3 rolls left and so did I, since we were both very hungry and it was our only food option during the long journey, but the whole time we were getting more and more grossed out and none of us ate the 4th last roll in our order. Payment: She accepts credit card or Venmo, but any other form of payment besides cash would be an extra dollar of up charge. Instead of paying $13 for a $12 item, we decided to scramble for cash to pay her. Location: One of three food trucks located in a dirt road parking lot with active large and live mosquitoes flying around attacking us while we order food and dine. A Mexican taco truck each to the left and right side of this Vietnamese food truck. Other: This lady owner says she's had her business here for 5 years now. Had wanted to try several items on the menu but already made a purchase with the taco truck to its right. Perhaps it's a good thing, because the sanitary and hygiene issue here is questionable. I hope she starts to wear a hair net when she preps food. I mean, I understand we all shred hair daily and she must of been working hard to chop the veggies and hand roll each spring roll...but we really don't need that evidence in the form of strands of hair in our food...

The restaurant was nearly full when we arrived but no one was taking advantage of the outdoor seating. The menu and prices are what you would expect from a typical American-style diner. The desserts, though, are several cuts above. It was already 2pm when we arrived (the restaurant closes at 3pm) and I was surprised to see that there were still desserts available, as they were sold out on every one of my previous visits. I've always wanted to try one of their pies. Unfortunately, the only pies left were whole pies and, though I was sorely tempted, I knew that I would end up eating the whole pie at one sitting. Instead, I ordered the peach blackberry coffee cake. Wow! I don't know who's doing their baking for them, but their talents are being wasted in Lone Pine. That coffee cake in an L.A. restaurant would be featured in Eater LA at a minimum.

She has the perfect personality to keep the ambiance at the restaurant high energy and fun. Should she ever leave this place, the ratings would likely be closer to a 2-3 star.
