My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting Chula Artisan Eatery after I did some Yelping for a great breakfast with great coffee. We're big fans of Joshua Tree coffee, so that was the initial hook. However, when I read the reviews of the juevos rancheros, that sealed the deal. And the restaurant delivered! The juevos rancheros really were the best I've ever had. The coffee was delicious too, and they even heated and whipped my coconut cream! We also ordered an order of the steel oats to go because the reviews for that were amazing. We split that for lunch later and it was superb. Staff was exceptional (Rita). Friendly and attentive. The could do better with the signage. A bit hard to find and not confuse with Louise's Pantry. Last night I met a nice young man named Garrett that is now a waiter at this 1 month old Restaurant and bou am I glad I met him because He steered me right to this new gem of a delicious establishment. It's a totally health conscious restaurant. They have their own recipes that a a cool twist of American and Mexican. It's right behind Louise's Pantry. Can I just say O-M-G!! My palette has been spoiled by there red chilaquiles and churro donut. The red chilaquiles are topped with crema and sprouts that add the flavor to the not spicy Chile. This spot spent slot of money in the decor and not so much with customer service. Had a terrible experience overall that made me walk out after the Manager,s rudeness. She had no tact whatsoever and should be replaced if this place wants to survive especially during the pandemic! When I Inquired about the delay with my food she basically told me that I was lucky that I was being served at 1 pm. Translation: Shut up and enjoy your Mimosa . My wife and I came here for brunch and I thought the food was good but over priced. I ordered the Chorizo and Egg Frittata ($14) which comes with 3 very small (street taco sized) tortillas. The portion of Chorizo was good but I ordered an extra side of tortillas which was $4. I ordered a side of avocado which was also $4. This brought my dish to a total of $22. My dish didn't come with salsa either, so I took my wife's salsa and jalepeno to add a little spice to my dish. Like i said, the food was good, albeit a little bland, and over priced. He recommended the tamale BUT I went with the Red Chiliquiles with a poached egg, OMgosh!!! My hubby got the same, he loved it. I loved it. Service was pleasant and fast enough. The food, however, was less than impressive. Our appetizers Corn Fritters and Flight of Salsa. It was two fritters on top of a salad. Basically golf ball sized corn hush puppies and even slightly burnt flavor. The Flight of Salsa was $10. That's right, no complimentary chips and salsa. It consisted of three small salsa bowls. One was green and tasted overwhelmingly of lime. Another was far too garlic-y. The third was virtually flavorless. We were asked if we wanted "spicy" and we said yes yet none were even remotely spicy. Her Pulled Pork Chilaquiles were bland. My Tamale Special was a single tamale and "poached" egg. Extremely bland. I don't consider this a Mexican restaurant. They don't know how to poach an egg. When they are not being bland, they don't seem to grasp balance of flavor. We didn't finish anything. We actually left hungry and down around 60+$. Not a thing about this place would make me recommend it to anyone. To their credit, it was clean, nice, and obvious care taken in production. Really nice food. Every dish we ordered was well made with high quality ingredients. Especially good were the homemade flour tortillas and Chilaquilas. Also liked the foamed milk on the side of the coffee (which was really good, but expensive!). They seated us quickly, even though one member of our party was running late, which I always appreciate. It's open and airy and clean and cozy. A couple small things that made it not quite a five star situation -- the espresso in the cappuccino was pulled a little too long, so it was bitter. It's really a hit or miss. I've had great tasting food, specifically the tamales and pozole, and always looks so pretty. Then each time I have had the chicken tacos they are awful. Their serving size is small, and for what your paying, not worth it in my eyes. The plain coffee is the best. They way it's served is great. Agua frescas are okay. The service could be better then the same forgetful waitress we always have, but overall I would recommend at least once for the atmosphere. read more

We received a recommendation to Chula, but the service was horrible. It should be pretty quick, as the food is basic and very good, but it just wasn't worth the hassle. So happy that their back for the season. I came back in on their opening day (of the season) and had their Huevos Rancheros so delicious and keep you full. I've had in the past their Chile Rellenos which were my favorite last season, wish they'd bring it back to the menu but they still have other good options which I can't wait to try. The food is organic and I like that everything is made from scratch you can really taste the difference compared to other restaurants.
