5 stars on service, atmosphere and food. 6 stars on the margaritas! Dined here for a late lunch/early dinner and were welcomed by Pablo, the multi-tasking bartender, who invited us to sit anywhere. We picked a corner window table and were served immediately with cold water and the complimentary chips and salsas. The chips are fresh and dusted with a paprika/salt powder. The salsas are outstanding. One a bit spicier than the other but nearly impossible to choose a favorite. We ordered the chicken and steak fajita combination with black beans and rice with corn tortillas. The fajita arrives on a sizzling cast iron skillet with generous amounts of grilled onions and carmelized red peppers. We rounded our order out with their house guacamole. The guacamole, itself, could have used a bit more salt but the perfectly salted chips helped solve that. The margaritas are dangerously good. And the mix they use tastes fresh and house made. I loved that these were served with dehydrated lemon wheels and a sprig of thyme. Pablo took excellent care of us and we will 100% return. read more

Was craving enchiladas and this came up as a suggestion on Yelp. Service was friendly and quick, I will say the Chavela deserves a five star rating. I had the chicken enchiladas in a green sauce. Not a big portion and the sauce for me was very bitter. They do have a very spicy chili Macha that made it a little more flavorful. My husband had an enchilada and a shredded beef taco. Not a fan of the enchilada sauce, but the taco was very good. Would I come here again? Probably not but the service was excellent. read more

Honestly, if I didn't have to scarf down my food in the last fifteen minutes of my lunch because the food took so long, this would be a five. There was only me and a table of four inside. The location seems to be in a quiet downtown area with lots of outside street parking. Inside is plain but clean. The chips are thick and the red salsa liquidy but you do get green and red. My husband ordered the ranchero burrito, carne asada without onions. Unfortunately, there were onions. The carne asada was tasty but not amazing. I ordered the two crispy tacos plate. Again the beef was good but not great. The rice and beans were both very good. The ambiance is lacking and the service is slow but friendly. Our 1st time dining at this restaurant, 6/22/26 Good food and good service. The server checked on us several times. We ordered the fajitas, I was impressed with the jumbo sized shrimp. But I am giving 4 stars because both male and female bathrooms did not have a Changing table for infants/toddlers. CA law requires changing tables in the bathrooms of restaurants. My daughter was unable to change her toddler during our visit. I hope this review helps to have changing tables installed in the bathrooms for future visits (for my family as well as others). read more

We ordered beef & chicken fajitas and there was barely any beef at all, needed more chicken and it was missing the grilled tomatoes. Waitress did not ask if we wanted a new one, or offer any beef, or did not offer to take it off the bill. Restaurant is very plain inside.Nothing on the walls. Not an inviting feel to it at all. The portions were plenty and the food was delicious! The caramelized onions were a nice touch and I appreciated they included sour cream on the plate.
