I've been coming to the Chula Vista Center AMC for almost three years, and the escalators leading to the second-floor theater have been broken for nearly that entire time. At first only one side was out of service. Now neither escalator works, yet the same apology sign has been sitting there for years. What's even more frustrating is that the nearest regular staircase is gated off, forcing everyone to use the stationary escalator steps or walk towards the north side of the mall. Escalator steps are steeper, taller, and can be slippery, making them much more difficult to navigate, especially for seniors, people with mobility issues, and families with young children. Yes, there is an elevator, but it's farther inside the mall and not conveniently located for people simply trying to get to the AMC. I see people struggling on these stairs every time I visit. What I don't understand is how the mall continues investing in new development while neglecting basic infrastructure that's already there. New restaurants and new construction are exciting, but before expanding even further, Chula Vista Center should invest in maintaining the property people already use every day. Functional escalators to one of the mall's biggest attractions shouldn't be a luxury. Three years is an unreasonable amount of time to leave both escalators out of service. If repairing them isn't possible, then at the very least open the regular staircase on the south side so people have a safer way to access the theater. Do better. This has gone on long enough. read more

Of the many malls that have been wuth the nant years of hustory from when the shopping center was the Chula Vista Mall than it was changed over to the Chula Vista Center for the center hsd alot of older stores from the early 60s. When the mall was firzt dezigned the businesses were developed in the late 50s the business property was owned by the Kimba group that was developing the many areas of Hst. Chuka Vista Center is one of the malls tgat when you enter the mall with galf of the restaurants that you can find the wide selection of fast food and the Starbucks Coffee with the Rubios Tacos. With the Center you can find nany of the clothing atores to Spencers to the AMC Theater tgay was the Reading Theater. For the prices at the nall you could go to the Macys Dwpartment findibg great aales and the many special sales they have. There is the Burlibgton Coat Factory the two level clothing store that you can buy things for the damily and clothes for the kids and the wide selection of the mens suits and sports wear. One of the bezt things they have is the security that helps as the concierge yet they help with keeping the mall safe. Updated 2025 review - While much has closed at this mall, some new changes have been made as well. From Sears closing to turning into housing and a new hospital, to CVS closing but then having Raisings Canes open up to an awesome bar in the middle of the mall with live entertainment. Also, Curacao is a newer addition, although they offer low monthly payments - items are a bit more on the pricey side. The holiday season brings some amazing festive decor. This mall is still home to places like Macy's, Guess, Lids, Spencer's, Burlington and JCPenney's amongst other little stores, AMC theater. Not to mention restaurants including BJ's, Buffalo Wild Wings, a sushi spot, Starbucks, See's candy, Burger King, and Olive Garden around the corner and Sizzlers and a handful of other places. Chick-fila is also a new addition to the mall. Our favorite frozen yogurt placed closed as we found out one night during a craving. There is plenty of parking, although up close and personal may be a wait. While this is a smaller outdoor mall, it still offers some of the variety of stores to shop at. There is still active construction going on, and it seems like there has been active construction for a few years now. There are electric parking spots and 15-minute parking (although people use this as a regular parking spot). read more

It's unfortunate that the second largest city in San Diego county doesn't have a nice mall. We have to go to Plaza Bonita or Fashion Valley to have a decent mall. Instead of replacing Sears, they sold it off, and made some apartment complexes. The only thing good about this mall is the choices for of food. Otherwise the mall is permanently dead except for Christmas time. Very pathetic location. I wish somebody would come in and purchase this place and actually make a respectable mall. Sadly a dying mall once again. A while back it was dying as well but a bunch of new stores and food places helped but it back in the map. I did a quick walk thru this morning and it gave me a feel of Horton plaza. I knew about Sears gone but after walking around many of the stores have closed. A smart thing that the mall is starting to do is paint the closed stores windows. This gives it a artsy feel and doesn't look as depressing. There are now homeless living in the empty parking lot and I ran into various homeless while walking through the plaza in the early morning. Another feeling of Horton plaza. Another place that ya gone obviously is the Sears Auto center. That was a reasonable place to get quick fixes like tires and things done. I have a feeling is Macy goes this entire plaza will be gone as well. That's really the only anchor store left. It looks like the owners or property management has given up here. It's sad it used to be a fun place to go. Maybe a couple things to save this place. Have a house of blues or art center at night to being in people. Invite beer houses and get a strip of them to bring in new clients? read more

The original reason for our visit to this outdoor mall was too jump on a big storewide sale of stuff...the other reason to visit was because we hadn't seen this place in about a decade (former San Diego residents). For myself it was even longer! I am happy to say it has significantly improved in the following years; such as the various outdoor comfortable seating, fountains and the kids play area near the center of the mall. Of course, the merry-go-round was replaced years ago. Overall, the vibe was less cramped and more cozy, with all the stores alive with customers and such. A typical outdoor mall, if you will. This "What to Expect" review is for the Sharp South Bay (Vaccine) Super Station set up in the retired Sears (565 Broadway) at Chula Vista Center. When you arrive, head to the white tent. I was 30 minutes early, but they encouraged me to go on in. There are specific lines for first and second dose check-ins. Once your appointment is verified, you'll be given a vaccination card that will be filled out by staff at subsequent points. Keep your ID and paperwork handy for multiple stations including a temperature check. I was happily surprised by how warm, welcoming, and efficient the volunteers were.  The center was very well-organized and felt like a cross between the airport and Disneyland.  Celebratory dance music made it feel like a party. Once your ID and submitted medical information are verified, you are greenlit to meet with a medical professional who double-checks that you understand which vaccine you are getting and answers any questions you might have. After the injection, a group of "cheerful" volunteers :o) will direct you to a seating area for 15 minutes of observation for adverse reactions. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR LIFE-SAVING, HEART INSPIRED WORK SHARP VOLUNTEERS! It's been a long, hard year. On July 7th before noon, we went to this mall to have lunch at Buffalo Wings. As soonest we parked, it was a terrible smell in the air like sewage coming out of the pipes, and after we ate was the worse thing. The Chula Vista city needs to take care of that bad situation. My first time visiting this center. I had no idea this existed. Its not super big but they have a good variety of stores and some are outlets stores which are usually cheaper than regular stores. They still have Payless, Charlotte Russe which are going out of business but still open. They have Express Outlet, Pink, Victoria's Secret, Sheika, bath and body works, Macy's so they have a variety. Never have an issue with parking. It is an older mall and the reason I visit this location is because of AMC theater. If it wasn't for the movie theater I would avoid this place all together. With that being said they do have a good selection of places to eat. Not my personal preference but as far as mall food goes I do appreciate that they have a selection of restaurants vs your traditional food court. There's a New Mexican place I would love to try out but one of my favorites is five guys. read more

Its going further and further downhill. CVS is gone now as is Sears and all its buildings. We came out of AMC to find both escalators were down as was the elevator. That makes it very difficult for disabled people. I see that becoming a big regulatory issue shortly. There is always at least one escalator down in that shopping center. Its mainly eating establishments now. read more

I have been here a couple of times and have never left really impressed. It is easy to get here and parking is easy which is always nice in San Diego. There is a good amount of stores and variety that you can shop from but all of the stores are soooo small. I couldn't get through a bunch of the stores with the baby's stroller and then they are so small that I felt like i didn't have many options in the store. I have only been here because I was going somewhere specific and I am sure that will be the only reason why I am here. If I want to go shopping, this wouldn't be my preferred place. read more

Getting your drink made correctly is close to impossible at this Starbucks location. It's almost like they don't want to read the items on your order and just throw whatever into a cup and hand it to you. My drink was gross. read more

If you're looking for a variety of stores for shopping affordable, i would choose the Chula Vista Center. I think the only great thing about this place is the new AMC theater (the CHEAPEST luxury recliner seats in the south bay) and the big department stores such as Sears, Burlington Coat Factory and Macys. Other than that, shopping is very limited. I only recommend this place if you are looking to go on a date because the choices of restaurants (Olive Garden, BJs, Red Lobster) make this place worth it before you catch a movie. A mall is a mall is a... This seemed a reasonable mall with only Macy's and Sears (that I could see) as anchor stores. Out front on H Street, they seemed to have a lot of restaurants, and the cinema seemed to be toward the opposite side. They had a few interesting stores, but it seems as though it's finished--Burlington Coat Factory is one the premises. I've seen it too many times. They arrive when it's too late for the mall to keep going. It seems as though it's a 10 screen cinema and several restaurants with some shopping added. Hopefully, they can revive the shopping part. read more

It is nice to see a vast improvement in this mall. Several years ago there was almost no reason to stop in here. WIth the addition of the AMC theater over the old one and new places to eat lunch and dinner, this is a vast improvement. BJ's and Buffalo Wild Wings are open late so sometimes after work some coworkers and I stop in to relax a bit. read more

Its a smaller but nice mall. They dont have a huge variety of stores- not a lot of food places. Mostly restaurants and a wetzels pretzels. They have a movie theatre. I like that sometimes they have a band playing and they have couches to sit on. read more

Being a Chula Vista native this mall brings back memories...some good some bad but hey they will always be a part of who I am. When this mall opened with all its glory it was great! A shiny new theater, carousel, abundant food court and tons of stores. Now it has a rundown discount theater, plenty empty shops and a tiny food court. Recently they have been trying to modernize it and make it a little fancy adding nice furniture and a fireplace. They also have added a few cool new restaurants but to be honest the poor mall has seen it's better days. The highlights of the mall to this fatty are the sees store, panera, the comic store and the discount movie place. The boy loves hot topic for his iron man and bat man clothing, belts, etc... Skip the fro yo place it isn't any good. Restaurants are pretty much hit or miss because it is a mall. read more

Been to this mall when I was a teenager. This mall has changed over the years. Stores have come and go. I heard that the new AMC theater is nice. I haven't been in there since the new AMC is now the place to go watch movies. This mall is pretty dead most of the time. The only store I like is Macy's. I like how BJ's and a few other eateries are close by. This is not my favorite mall. I'd rather go to Fashion Valley, Plaza Bonita or North County mall. There's plenty of parking around Chula Vista mall. There used to be security at this mall but it is non existent. We only come here when we eat at BJ's or just in the area. This mall still needs an upgrade and better stores. If they can only have stores that attract more business, that would be better for this mall. read more

Well where do I start. Let's start with the Mall Nothing works but the stairs and the stairs my have a cone blocking access. Poor lighting and poor security only in the parking lot. I hate being Negative but the Red Lobster at that location served my wife and I the worst lunch I've ever had. By far the most disappointing shopping center I've encountered in San Diego, so far. It was quite dull and the lack of stores and liveliness from employees in stores, added to the awful experience. Don't get me wrong, it's not ALL bad--It just wouldn't be where I prefer to kill time or shop very often, if ever again. I wish the employees would greet customers, instead of conversing with one another, walking past us or just being on their phones. I get why this place isn't super frequented or raved about. The restrooms are less than satisfactory. I am a sucker for a well-maintained public restroom and this just wasn't doing it for me. I nearly slipped, right after I took a step inside! From there, it was like a game of "Avoid the mysterious wet spots". I will admit that I am considering making another trip here, but out of curiosity of how nice the theatres are. I've heard nothing short of lovely things about it, and who knows? Maybe it'll cause me to give the entire building another shot, should that experience go well. read more

Not one of my favorite malls in San Diego. Even when I worked this mall, I dreaded coming here. Parking is weak on the H-Street side. The stalls are really tight so door dings is expected. My secret, park on the Olive Garden side. No one parks there. You got your branded stores here, but I really don't feel it when I shop here. Walk this mall for about 30 minutes and you'll see what I'm talking about. The ambiance is dead here. I don't know if it's the set up, the lack of selection, or that fact that this is usually my last stop if I'm mall hopping, but it seems like everyone here is dragging. It's always been like this. However, this is the perfect mall to go to if you know exactly what you're looking for, know exactly where to get it, and know exactly where to park. Just get in and get out. Overall, just giving Chula Vista Center 3 stars because it's just okay for me. It's not your one stop shop, but it's a good last stop. Just remember, come here with energy. Chula Vista Shopping center located on Broadway Street,Chula Vista. is an open concept shopping center. It originally started with Sears, Macy's and JCPenney. Today, it's surrounded with other stores and food venues. Parking is never a problem here. The courtyards are well maintained and kept clean. The place is not enclosed and covered like a mall, so bring your umbrella when it's raining. Likewise, wear a heavy coat/jacket during the winter. There are great buys over here due to frequent sales. Great to get your exercise walking around under the blue skies. read more

This mall used to be my old hangout spot when I was in middle school and back then it was definitely emo and cholo kid central. It looked pretty sketch back then but there was something oddly charming about this mall, it could have been the carousel. I honestly have really great memories of eating near the carousel back when they had tables up there, now there's absolutely nothing. NOTHING! It's just completely empty. No carousel, no tables, nothing. It honestly saddened me to see all that space being completely wasted. I guess kids are too busy playing on their iPhones nowadays to appreciate a carousel or sitting with their friends and eating ice cream. The shops themselves are very underwhelming. If you want better stores in the South Bay area just go to Plaza Bonita or the Otay Ranch Town Center. The only thing that the Chula Vista Center has going for them are the newly renovated eating area. You have a great selection of restaurants from BJ's Pizza to more affordable fast food places like Rubio's and Project Pie. That side of the mall looks very nice, but the rest still looks like it did over 10 years ago. Overall a very underwhelming mall if you ask me and it's pretty dead during the weekdays. read more
