The menu looked promising, but unfortunately after waiting for 30 minutes to not even receive water, my girlfriend and I walked out. Pretty bummed about our experience, and wished I could have tried the food. The restaurant was not busy. 3, maybe 4 other couples were there. FINALLY!!! We moved to Eugene just over 2 months ago from San Diego and have tried way to many Mexican restaurants that left us disappointed. We have now found our spot!! Great, authentic, homemade food! Everything is made in house (except the flour tortillas). It is on the smaller side so if you are going with a group of more than 4, you might wait awhile. Ordered a number of items and they all lacked a lot of flavor. Chimichanga was soft and soggy. Probably using pretty cheap ingredients.

The food was good, but the service was not. After waiting at least ten minutes, a server finally came to our table. She was competent enough that she didn't need to write down our order, so the ground beef enchilada I ordered turned out to be chicken, and the chicken chimichanga had nothing but beans in it. Our server also had a table of eight and I noticed when she brought them their food, she brought it all herself, taking at least four trips from the kitchen to their table, even though there were plenty of people who could've helped her. I would guess the average age of the servers to be about 21, and while they all seem very pleasant, none of them have any sense of urgency. When you're in a restaurant at a busy time, you expect to see the employees at least walking quickly. That said, we enjoyed the food, especially the chips and salsa. read more

Nothing fancy here...basic Mexican...but done well enough, and extremely reasonable...my wife and i had a sort of "date night" out...we were in town for my daughter's swim meet...and our hotel was literally across the street...so we fed the kids, walked across the street, and could enjoy margaritas and dessert after dinner without having to worry about driving anywhere after we were done! Food:I got notified over 30 minutes after ordering my dish that there wasn't any beans so I had to re-order another $7.95 dish without beans. Brought out my food with a giant hair on it. I politely requested a new plate. They brought put the SAME plate and "changed the rice". I couldn't bring myself to eat it. After i explained this to the waitress she still proceeded to charge me for the meal. Literally the worst combination. read more

This is the perfect place to wander into on an empty stomach. I typically get my burrito fix at Mucho Gusto on Coburg but the long line and extra charges can be a bit of a drag sometimes. Chula's has a really great, cheerful atmosphere inside with charming decor. The waiter Duane happily recommended Al Pastor for my burrito and it was so delicious! Mediocre. Non-authentic. Over-priced. I've been here twice now. Both times I got shrimp dishes. The sauce was below par and the shrimp were small. Small side portions of beans and rice were fine. My girlfriend ordered a bean and cheese burrito and the burrito came out room temperature, the cheese looked like it had just come out of the bag. She asked them to heat it up and when they brought it back it was lukewarm in some spots. Definitely not worth the $$. If you're looking for good mexican grub go somewhere else. We are still working our way through Mexican restaurants in and around Eugene searching for something authentic. Chula's is the closest thing we've come to authentic Mexican Food in the area. The flavors are appropriately bold. I like that they serve the correct condiments with each dish (not every type of taco is topped with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, etc.) the food arrive at table HOT. My wife and I eat here often and love it. I don't think anyone could reasonably say the prices are anything but low for the quality, and the food is always excellent. They do employ college students so there is a turnover rate, and you may have less desirable service as they get their bearings (as some reviews have complained of); however they are owner operated, and the owner gets them up to speed quickly so the average experience is great service. Their street tacos are gluten free! My wife has celiacs and has never gotten sick from cross contamination, just make sure to let them know to be careful. Everything from the complimentary chips and salsa to our entrees were delicious. The service was very friendly and they gave amazing meal suggestions. We ordered chili verde, carne asada, enchiladas, taquitos, and a wet carnitas burrito. The taquitos were our least favorite but still decent.
