I live right across the street from here and it's always so tempting to just come here daily for their California burrito. I am a huge fan of their food because being from California, I am used to the authentic Mexican food made by my best friends mom, and here they make it just as good! Their tacos are amazing as well. Ok I've been here at least 4 times now and It's ok Mexican food ... I'm from LA where Mexican food is cared for even at the el pollo loco's anyways Ima make one suggestion about a dish and that's the " tortilla soup" specially if someone is picking it up please don't leave the tortilla chips in the soup they just become gross soggy limbs of tortilla . You guys should package them separately so when the soup is ready to be eaten the chip is nice and crunchy ... I usually don't make comments about restaurants but when I got my soup and saw the tortilla it just made me wish I was back home but besides from that it's a lovely place to eat at. read more

This place is brand new and it's amazing. Right off the bat, as we walked through the door, the host and server greeted us and were really friendly. This place has a nice atmosphere. Good news, ya'll, there's finally a delicious Mexican place near campus, and this is arguably the best Mexican place in Eugene! Our experience here was nothing short of five-star worthy. Started out with a friendly greeting, seated promptly by the owner with menus, water, chips and salsa (chips were warm and salsa was fresh and delicious!) and a friendly waiter to take our order. I ordered a California Burrito, while my fiancé got a combination of various street tacos. The food came out fast and was phenomenal. The servings were hearty: tacos filled with flavorful meat and they did not go light on the guac on my burrito! One of the best parts of our experience at Chula's was definitely the tortillas, which are HAND MADE and are freakishly good. Average carnitas...not very big portions for over $15.00. I would have rather paid $16-18 and got ALOT more of a feast like any other place I've ever had carnitas...waiter was nice, but nice does not cut it on wife's bday. He did not give us his name, didn't take our empty salsa and there was an overload of forks and knives when we have a grabby two year old. I tried telling him as he walked by and he said "yeah and just kept on walking"...lol what!?!? Then I had to ask him again and explain our logic. We never were offered a refill of chips, which I have NEVER seen at a Mexican restaurant. We didn't even want the refill, but we are accustom to that. It's kind of a standard...am I wrong? I get it, "every restaurant is different." At least they didn't charge us for soda water like some places do so that's a plus...it wasn't terrible, but def nothing special. Decor was and the environment was pleasant. The people seemed like they were not happy to be there. I really hope this place hires people that understand what customer service is. We bought one round of beers when it should have been 2-3 rounds for my wife's bday...not impressed. Probably won't go back, which is too bad because we did like the setting and decor. Its this bright blue cute building on Franklin, that I overlooked for years. Until one day I gave it a chance, and was blessed from that day on as being the best Mexican food in Eugene. Being from Southern California it was very difficult to find a good taco or Mexican food place here in Oregon and generally I have been disappointed. But Chulas saved my life, and my go to is the California burrito! The service is great, servers are nice, chips are flowing and the salsa is addicting. I ordered a carne asada and had it delivered through hungry ducks. Upon receiving it, I only received 3 pieces of meat with the biggest one being half the size of my already small palm. They burned it badly in so many areas and the thickness of the meat of itself was about the thickness of a quarter that it was barely edible- I thought I was eating beef jerky. Seriously, how could you serve something like this and charge so much for the food and delivery fee? I'm upset for paying good money and looking forward to eating my meal and received a thin slice of burned meat. Save yourselves money and go eat somewhere else. read more

Place has changed a lot. California burrito used to be my favorite, but now it's 1/2 the size and served cold with non-melted cheese. Typical "white" Mexican food; over salted chips, oily rice and small over-priced portions. If you want a small cold burrito for twice the price of any real authentic Mexican food in Eugene, this place is for you! Just go to Super Taco or Super Burrito if you want REAL Mexican food. read more

This was my first visit at Chula's. My friend and I loved the chips and salsa with our mango margaritas. Our meals consisted of very flavorful , not too hot enchilada with the house sauce. My friend had a wet burrito also with the house sauce on it. The portions were large in size and the flavors were perfect. We were so delighted with the fact that it wasn't too spicy for our pallets. We recommend Chula's and can't wait to return the next time I am in Eugene. Go now... You will be so glad you did. read more

I want to start off by saying I love Chula's. Their food is amazing and the staff is great. However, whoever the owner or manager is there has a real attitude problem. Our server, Carson, was super polite, helpful, and all around a nice guy. He really delivered good service while being very personable. He was at our table talking to us and grabbing our plates and she rudely came over and told him to hurry up she needed help his help back here and gave us a dirty look. As a waitress, I knew this was a half full restaurant and rule number one of the food industry is customer service. When we walked out, she had him folding napkins, obviously not a reason to take someone from customers. I just wanted to have a shout out to Carson for being so awesome, helpful, and quick to deliver quality customer service. Your service was more than 5 stars. We're from out of town and a local person recommended we visit Chula's for the enchiladas. GREAT recommendation! We tried the chicken , ground beef, shredded beef, and carnitas enchiladas. They were all excellent. They give 3 or 4 sauce choices as well. I loved the carnitas with the regular sauce the most. We enjoyed the meal so much that we went back again before we left town! It's a small place that gets quite crowded with college students so be ready to wait (it will be worth it!). The service both times was exceptional. read more

We moved to Eugene from No Calif in 2009 & have been on the hunt for authentic Mexican food as we know it. We ordered through Hungry Ducks so I can't comment on the service or the restaurant decor. We ordered a variety of items. A Chili Rellano Burrito, a loaded burrito with Chile Verde, Chips with queso, a pork verde tamale & a shredded beef sope. We were happily surprised at real flavor, something lacking in most Mexican Restaurants here. The sope was handmade & delicious, the chips are REAL homemade fried tortillas & the tamale was the best I've tasted here. What was missing was the heat, except for the queso dip which was very spicy. The burritos were huge. ALL the food had that hard to describe Mexican flavor. So far, this is the best sit down place we've found in Eugene. read more

We had a great time at Chula's tonight! Let's start with the margarita, Cadillac to boot, excellent! Then the chips, salsa, cheese dip and guacamole were superb. My favorite, chili relleno, nailed it! I really like the atmosphere and the wooden tables are gorgeous. The service was friendly and fun! Look forward to trying the lunch menu. We were very happy here....very clean, not charmingly dumpy like so many Mexican restaurants can be. The food was great but the prices were most pleasing. We both left very full for only $15 (drank only water.) The pico de gallo needed salt and lime desperately, though. Once I added them myself it was very good - very fresh. And the search continues for great mex in Eugene. 1st impression; friendly and welcoming hostess but she seems to also be the bus person, server and cashier. Granted it was about 3 PM on a Sunday, so it was slow. She wiped our booth down with a wet rag then went to get menus. We used the paper napkins on the table to wipe off the excess on the table and seats. She returned with the menus and they were dirty paper menus with food all over them. Yuk and yuk! If you're gonna wipe the table down in front of your customers at least go over it with a dry rag after. Sorry it's a pet peeve. We gave it a shot anyway. I don't know what all the rave is about "complementary" Chips? That's standard when you dine or drink in. Plus they tasted like reheated store bought and the salsa was just so so. We tried a variety of stuff; street tacos, hard tacos, tamales, chimichanga, rice and beans. Sampled carne asada, carnitas and chicken in the tacos, they were all good. All in all the food is pretty standard Americanized Mex. Portions were large, service prompt and friendly, just nothing special. My Cadillac margi was made from a mix and on the weak side too. On a scale of 1-10; it's a 3 this time. We'll give it another shot in hopes that they'll work out some kinks. Everything from scratch, clean dry booths, and an investment in real menus that can be wiped down would go a long way. We never really got over the dirty menus and sitting on a wet booth. While on business in Eugene, my friend and I decided to try Chula's. We were not disappointed. Rhett went out of the way to accommodate us. We had a Happy Hour pitcher of great margaritas and got a sort of sampler plate at a trial version price of their upcoming Happy Hour food menu. I am not a big tamale fan (one of the items on the sampler) but these were very flavorful with less cornmeal than I have had in the past. Will be back soon, hopefully. read more

The food isn't bad for the price but they can't seem to get an order right. Every time we order food out they mess up at least one thing. It's very frustrating that the young people working don't care about what they do and if you ask them to try to fix it they seem to get irritated and then make other errors. Being a resident of San Diego for 6 years, and my home being Texas I'm very critical when it comes to Mexican food. Everyone who comes to Oregon know that Mexican food is really mediocre at best here. Chula's (this place) on the other hand has the flavor that most Mexican restaraunts here lack!!!
