Came here yesterday for cinco de mayo and was so pleased with our experience! We worried about coming here the busiest day of the year but I'm glad we did. After a short wait we were brought to our table where our server Ryan took the best care of us! He had such a fun energy and was always checking in to make sure we were having a great time and had everything we needed. UPDATE! Chula's Restaurant and Cantina has become a Eugene tradition for my family and I. Why?! Why not is more like it! SPACE/ATMOSPHERE: Look for the turquoise building with lime green trim. No, I'm not kidding. Inside is like a nouveau rustic Mexicana feel - complete with plaster walls, exposed woodwork, cow skulls, traditional paintings, and woven cloths. Love it. The bar area is on the smaller side and can get pretty loud. So if you're wanting a catch-up sesh with a friend I'd opt for the dinning area. SERVICE: Always friendly AF! Whether we're there to pick up a to-go order or dinning in, everyone is sooo amazing. Our servers when we dine in are always so helpful with making menu suggestions and refilling drinks. Plus they all have great attitudes! DRINKS: They offer a variety of drinks from traditional favorites such as horchata, Jarrito, and margs; to other sips including wine, beer, soda, and more! They feature a full bar too - so if you fancy something else with your meal just let them know. EATS: Sooo good! I opted for a steak fajita burrito (rice, beans, cheese, sautéed bell peppers, onions, and grilled steak garnished with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole) on my most recent visit and it was killer good! We stopped into this lovely place en route to CA from WA. I judge Mexican restaurants by their Carne Asada. (It makes a consistent benchmark.) I had the steak and it was delicious! The homemade corn tortillas were fabulous, and the beans were well made and perfect. We especially liked the salsa. My husband had the asada enchiladas. These had very little sauce, very overcooked Carne asada, and were disappointing. Our daughter enjoyed her quesadilla. Overall, the food was good, but there is roomfor improvement. read more

I'll be honest. I don't remember the dining experience much because I inhaled one of their cadillac margaritas before having any food so my brain was swimming in tequila for most of the visit. So the best I can do is just quickly mention the highlights: 1-The margaritas. They are served in fish bowls and are quite delicious....and dangerous. 2-the decorations. Very typical 'Mexican restaurant in America' aesthetic. But the very lovely blue color on the exterior walls of the restaurant make for a very nice 'gramable' photo op. 3-The margs. 4-The service. Both the gentleman who delivered our food, to the woman who dropped off our drinks, to our server who took our orders. Chula's has always been one of my go-to's as a UO student! The service here is always on point and the food satisfies my cravings every time. Overall the food isn't overly authentic but it is cheap and delicious. I love the wet veggie burrito that is loaded with rice, beans, and veggies! The chips and salsa also are addictive, because the chips are baked to the perfect crisp and salted to absolute perfection. My favorite part is the margaritas here which are always delicious. Ate there on Saturday afternoon. Not a lot of customers but restaurant was fully staffed. 3 of us, ordered simple items, tacos and burritos. 25 minutes went by after ordering, no food. I finally asked the hostess if she could check. 1 minute later the server brought out our food, cold, cheese congealed. I would have asked the server to warm up the food, but she never came by to check. Truly horrible service. Quality cheese dip (one of the few places in town that has this). Overall, the food is good, just not super memorable. We just tried their Taco Tuesday. It was cheap and filling, but not mind blowing good. My husband likes to get their fajitas and I enjoy their taco salad. They are very good at keeping your table stocked with warm tortilla chips and yummy salsa. The location is right by campus, so you'll often see a younger crowd here. Waiter service is friendly. If this review was based solely on the service and Hard Shell tacos this is a bonafide 5 star must visit restaurant. Unfortunately the rest of what we ordered was not very flavorful or well prepared. Service - 5/5 Kyra our waitress/bartender was beyond amazing she helped us decide on a greatbeer and kept our Drinks/Salsa full and provided us with an amazing conversation as well. Hard shell Tacos - 5/5 WOW! Really pleased/surprised how flavorful and fresh this taco was I'd come back just for these little tacos. I have been to Chulas twice. First time was a couple of years ago. I got the California burrito. It was so delicious. So much so, that I'd wished I got a second one. It was expensive, but worth it. It was huge. Since I knew it was so good I got it again this time. But sadly I was extremely disappointed. It was tiny this time. The tortilla was so chewy I couldn't hardly chew it. It was difficult to even take bites of it because it was so chewy. They hadn't given me any silverware either. The meat was also way over cooked and very chewy. The whole burrito was very bland as well. They forgot to put my cheese and the sour cream i asked for in it. Last time it was so flavorful I didn't need any sauce to go with it. But this time it needed it. So I tried it. It was the kind of hot sauce that has no flavor. It just grows in your mouth and burns your tongue. So it wasn't helpful. Even if it wasn't way over priced, it still was not worth it. If we hadn't had somewhere we had to be at the time, I would have said let's turn around and go take it back and just get a refund. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

My wife & kid had good meals with the Chipotle Chicken and the Steak Fajitas, but for god's sake do NOT order the Chicken Burrito Bowl! That thing was bland. I don't mean bland as in not spicy hot, I mean so bland they could have served it as hospital food to someone who just had gastric surgery. Chulas is great love their drinks and food, never had a bad experience until today. Our server was horrible about serving us, we saw her on our phone blatantly ignoring us. She took forever coming back to check on us even though we were looking at her and she was looking back at us giving us a side eye. When we asked for our bill we saw her walk over to the register and get back on her phone just to clock out 30 minutes later and not coming back at all. We had to ask someone else to give us our bill (David is the best!) but it still took around 40 minutes just for the bill. The booths are cramped and can fit about 1 and a half small humans if they are strategic about using the shared elbow space. The entire restaurant felt crowded with the staggering amount of people crammed in there, making conversation nearly impossible. The food came out rather quickly, however it was nothing to write home about. The chicken was about as bland as toilet paper and too hot to eat for about 10 minutes. It didn't help that the plate it was served on was approaching the temperature of a white dwarf star when it was set in front of me. "Careful, it's hot" just didn't do it any justice. Frankly, I'm surprised it didn't melt through the table and halfway to the Earth's core. The beans and rice were pretty good... My husband and I went to dinner at Chula's on a friend's recommendation. We both got margritas. My margrita was fine, nothing to write home about. My husband's margrita was straight tequila to the point of making you gag from the amount of alcohol. We got cheese dip and chips, both very bland. I got steak tacos and my husband got chicken mole. My tacos were dry, steak was overcooked and dry, I was not given salsa for my tacos. My husband's mole was bland, no flavor whatsoever. The staff was nice and attentive. Nothing was especially spicy, but we selected items on the bland side so there's that, We started with the "large" guacamole to supplement our chips & salsa. It came in the same sized container as the free salsa (mild spice level, but nice fresh flavor), a touch underwhelming portion but once again, no worry - it was delicious.
