Anyway, I got carne asada, shrimp, grilled chicken, and carnitas. All of them were delicious so I guess that makes up for the price. I've actually never eaten here myself, I'm a door dash driver. Staff is consistently disrespectful, rude to delivery drivers, other staff, and regular sit-down customers. Ridiculously slow as well. There is time between when a customer places a Door Dash order and when a Driver takes the order, this allows the restaurant to get the food ready (so this time frame varies depending on the type of restaurant). I have never had an order be ready when I arrive, let alone finished within 15 minutes of arrival. Then, when placing down delivery orders on their designated shelf, none of the staff say the order out loud, so every driver that's waiting gets up and has to ask someone else or reach over and turn the bag to read the receipt. I have tried to give this place a second chance way too many times. Im not sure what it is but i have tried multiple menu items on many separate occasions and they have never really excited me. I will say it is a nice place and the atmosphere that they have created as a restaurant is really nice. They also do delivery services through grubhub. For the most part I have been happy with our takeout service and food. However, the last couple of times there has been an issue almost every time. Food not packed that was paid for, food forgotten in the kitchen, rude customer service when they answer the phone. I finally called the Manager over the food that we were charged for and not delivered. She was nice and ended up comping our next meal which was very kind. I only was asking for the food to be comped we didn't receive. Today I placed an order for pick up at 6:45, I got an alert at 5:30 that it's ready. So, I called to let them know the order wasn't for 5:30, it was for 6:45. We were not even off the clock at 5:30, but when I called I got a very rude and poor attitude saying that "it wasn't their fault, Door Dash popped up and told us to get it ready, so they'd put it in the warmer for us until 6:45." I said "like a heat lamp warmer?" And then I was told "It's where we keep food warm, it's not our fault the alert popped up and told us to get it ready!" That very well may have happen, however, I was not having it. I think we are going to give our go to a break for a while. I use to come here back when it was The Mission for quite a few years until they fell out of favor with me when they started bringing my food to me cold. Which made no sense to me because it took so long to get it. I asked then why it took so long and they said that it was being cooked... well then why is it cold? I stopped going there. Chula's Restaurant and Cantina wasn't at all like that. The beer was fast and just as soon as I put the glass down after my last swallow the waiter was right there immediately asking me if I wanted another, the food was fast, tasty and HOT!... And that is how it should be. The waiter was very pleasant and good at his job. The music was, well, Mexican music, not really my first choice but it fit the decor well enough. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with the only problem being that I was just a little confused which one was which, but in the end I figured it out and all was well with the world again. I would have to say that the place has changed for the better... great job guys. I shall return to Chula's Restaurant and Cantina as soon as I can! read more

The wife and I finally went here for an afternoon lunch after driving by so many times and wondering if we should go. One thing I can say is that this place is hard to miss, since it is bright blue. Parking might be a little tight, but this time we were lucky and found a spot. The inside is nice and thought the colorful tables were cool to see. We were seated promptly and given our usual complimentary chips and salsa to start. The chips were warm and salsa was one of the best ones I have had in Eugene. The only dish I always get at any Mexican restaurant is the Polla Ala Crema. If I see it on the menu, it will be in my belly! I would say that it was one of the better ones I have had. The rice, however, was a bit bland. The flour tortillas were amazing. They actually roast them on a open flame and they smelled and tasted awesome. Later I learned from the waiter that they actually make their own corn tortillas in house. So, next time I will definitely have to try that. The one thing that bothered me is that the portion that you get isn't quite worth the $13.50 they charge you. This was more of a plate that had lunch portions at a dinner rate. So this was disappointing. Anywhere else I get this I can barely finish and this time I wish I had more. This is my only gripe. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I will return and hope next time they might offer a bigger portion for the price. read more

First of all, on a good day this place doesn't rate four stars but after tonight you'd have to have rocks in your head to want to give them any business. I have two kids attending the University of Oregon. My daughter lived across the street her freshman year so this came to be her favorite place to go to for Mexican food. I went there with her several times. It's a grade above Taco Bell but that's the best I can say. I had enchilada suizas and they were passable. Mine are far better. The margarita was kind of watered down. I say all of this to make it known for Yelp TOS that I have personally done business with this restaurant. This evening my 22 yo daughter and my 21 yo niece decided to go there for dinner and drinks. Some amateur waitress asked to see some ID and they both hand over a valid California drivers license-the newer, more secure Real ID type. The waitress must have never seen a California drivers license because she questioned the authenticity of both of the cards. She apparently calls over the manager who looks them over then scratches part of the magnetic stripe off the back and decides the IDs are fake?!? My kid and niece then left without food or drink but with two damaged but otherwise 100% totally valid California drivers licenses. Any idiot with half a brain can jump on Google and learn how to easily spot a fake California drivers license without destroying the document. I would have totally been ok if they had confiscated the cards and turned them over, undamaged, to Eugene police. Heck, they could have just called the Eugene police tonight and they probably would have told them the IDs were valid. Now I have to call the restaurant and ask if they will be paying for new IDs before or after I find a lawyer. Do yourselves a favor and if you are even remotely close to being 21 just steer clear of this place if you value your ID. Their Mexican food isn't that great, the ambiance is so so and the service, as I've explained, leaves a lot to be desired. Adios Chula's! read more

Stopped in tonight for a quick bite and found what may be one of the best sit-down Mexican joints in town. Great decor, excellent service, superb drink selection, and fresh flavorful chow round this out to a full five star experience. Dinner started with house made chips and salsa - perfectly greasy and salty! I had a mojito and my wife had a Milagro Silver margarita - both spot-on. I opted for the chicken in mole' sauce - usually a very dangerous venture that ends with a peanut butter filled nasty sauce and rubbery chicken. This was the best I've had on the west coast - fresh hot handmade corn tortillas, simple cooked chicken (a wee bit chewy but not bad), and a great sauce. I suspect the sauce is built off a base (Teloapan?) but the creaminess and flavor were great. Just for yucks I also had to try the chile verde tamale. Not exactly a traditional filling (pork - yes; chile verde - hmmmmm?) but it was quite good. Nice blend of carnitas and green chile. A great side accompaniment. My son's simple cheese enchilada was perfect for him, as was my wife's chicken burrito. We will be back for sure - this may well be our new sitdown spot (along with Naya's). read more

Great pork and chicken enchiladas for Sunday lunch. Ryan was our server and on it! We always love coming here for lunch or dinner.

Our waitress, Amira, was so incredibly rude. We tried to order food and she rolled her eyes. Every time we asked her a question, she acted like we were asking her to run a marathon out of her way. We went up to the bar to politely order a drink and she told us to sit ourselves down as if we were school children. All of our IDs were of age and she made us feel like less of customers and held onto them for over twenty minutes. Everyone else at the restaurant was incredibly kind and considerate except for her. If I sat down at a table with her again, I would make a point to leave because this was such a foul experience. She was rushing us out of the restaurant to order food and get out while we were watching the game. She was so incredibly rude to somebody who paid an incredibly expensive bill. Chula's is probably the best Mexican food in Eugene. Their food is delicious. Their queso is HEAVENLY!!!!! Also, their margaritas are so good, I love stopping in for happy hour to grab one with a friend. The staff situation is not always the best. There are a few great waiters, who are kind and helpful, but there's 1-2 that have been working there awhile that are just unpleasant and uncomfortable to have wait on you. This is our go-to Mexican place when ordering to go for two reasons: the delicious white queso dip and the shredded beef taco. The cheese dip is creamy and sometimes lightly spicy (we're talking 2 on a 10 point scale). Over multiple years of orders, I'd say the food has been consistent and tasty both at the restaurant and for delivery. The mole sauce is on the sweet side. My boyfriend and I went here tonight for the first time for dinner! I've been excited for a New Mexican restaurant to open up in town. We sat in the bar. Our server was a female who's name we never caught. She was sort of all over the place even though at the time it wasn't busy. It felt like she was rushing us at first even after we ordered drinks and said we wanted to hang out. Aside from that, we ordered Cadillac margaritas and chips and salsa/guac to start. The margaritas were from a mix (you could tell) but they were good!! The chips were amazing, salsa was great, and the guac was to die for!!! Some of the best guac I've had in Eugene. Their menu was large and has a lot of good stuff on it. I knew looking at it that we would have to come back for a second visit anyways. We ordered their street tacos. Ground beef, chicken, carne asada. All of them were good! Chicken was definitely my favorite. After we got our food, our server got off work. She turned our tab over to a male who was bartending as well. He was awesome! Honestly he will be a huge reason we will be back as well. He was extremely friendly, didn't rush us, talked with us, made jokes about a football game on. He was totally awesome. I think this is a great addiction to Eugene! My roommates and I eat here pretty much weekly and it's been rewarding watching this new business blossom. Wonderful staff and delicious food. Highly recommend the chula's nachos they come piled high with your choice of meat, cheese, guac, sour cream, jalapeños, and chunks tomatoes. The plate is massive so plan on sharing them. Honestly haven't had an item on the menu I didn't like. The enchiladas and quesadilla are delicious if you're looking for something plain and cheesy as well as the wet California burrito. I am so disappointed in Chula's. When an older relative came for a visit, I took him there expecting a nice night out. Not so much. The meal was fine and the vibe lively, but as we walked out a staff member mocked him. He'd just bought two meals, four drinks and left a 50% tip for the waitress. We were easy guests and in turn, he was mocked. Maybe she thought he couldn't hear her, but he did and it stung. I wouldn't leave this review over the action of one person. This happened at closing time when a number of staff were up front together. Several laughed at her jab but none of them called her out, at least not promptly. I was excited driving by a month back when I saw this restaurant being remodeled. It's a great location and I knew it just needed some love. My boyfriend and I came in this evening for some dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The inside looks fresh and new. It's clean, simple and no longer feels old and worn out. The menu is a good size and offers plenty of options. We ordered the loaded burrito and two taco combo, with a lemonade and water the total came out to $17.50. I easily have another meal left from the huge burrito. The chips and salsa were great. I was happy that the salsa wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. We'll be back. This place opened in the spot of another Mexican joint which wasn't that good. Things are improved notably with the new business. The color of the exterior is certainly striking: an intense bright blue that is probably visible from space. The interior is clean and seems smaller than it should be from the outside, about 100 seats including a sizable number in the bar area. When we arrived on a Monday night the dining room was mostly full, so we took a table in the bar. The very chatty bartender pushed the margaritas hard (it was Margarita Monday according to the promotional schedule), but we laid off the alcohol and had soft drinks with our chips and salsa, which had a fair amount of vegetation and just enough heat to let you know it wasn't ketchup. DLW had fajitas, which she liked, but had to ask for extra tortillas, which they brought without a problem. I had chili verde, a go-to for me at Tex-Mex places, and it satisfied. Rice and beans came with, and they were nothing special. This place should do well with the UO crowd, with its everyday drink specials and cheap entrees with very satisfactory portions. read more
