First time trying, got 2 orders of wings and nachos! The teriyaki wings (pictured) were nice and hot and tasted really good. The not pictured medium were a bit underwhelming looking but also good taste. Both full of meat and not small! Nachos- I'll let the picture speak for itself- won't get these again as I could make these at home for a dollar or less. Too pricey for the quality and chips were stale. I had a blast here last weekend with the Father's Day metal night! I'm not the type to write a review but I feel like it was unfair how my family and I were treated by the bartenders. We sat at the bar for 20 minutes & did not receive eye contact or a "hey whatcha drinking tonight." We were completely ignored even though we were right in front of their face and it also was not busy!!! The law is a causeway upon which so long as he keeps to it a citizen may walk safely.---Bolt Located in an unassuming strip mall in downtown Melbourne sits Chumley's Depot. As I walked inside I was greeted with a waft of stale cigarette smoke and couldn't help but think of the movie, "Back to the Future." "Where are we, Doc?" "Not where, Marty. When." Did walking through the doors transport me back to 1975, or was I imagining the odor? As I took a seat at the counter to order my meal, I noticed that the opposite wall was a counter with outside stool seating. The customers sitting there were smoking while eating and the smoke was being blown inside the restaurant. "Ah, so that is how they are skirting the law," I thought as the server approached me and asked for my order. I went with a pint of Smithwick Ale, chicken wings with Marcus Sauce and finished with the Mariners dog (I didn't ask for a side of air freshener). The ale was cool, crisp and perfectly drawn from the tap, the rest of the meal however...My order of 5 wings in their "internationally famous" Marcus sauce was the first to arrive. They certainly did not lie on the menu when they said, "...you gotta like it hot." These were on fire, though I do have to question just how internationally famous they are. Is there a couple in Thailand going, "Hey! Remember those wings at Chumley's with the Marcus sauce?" Served with the traditional celery stalk and side of blue cheese they were adequate. The Mariner's dog, however, left much to be desired. It comes with sauerkraut and cream cheese. The hotdog itself appeared to be microwaved and one bite made me sure it had been. It was a bit on the chewy side. The bun looked like it was bought at the 99 cent store and tasted about the same. It was bland and leaning towards the stale side. The kraut was fine, obviously out of a can, but not bad, though they were a bit skimpy on the kraut and cream cheese for my tastes. Very fun bar, just beware that it is right off the train tracks, hence the "depot". I really liked how it is half indoors and half outdoors. The bars to both sides and there are tables both inside and outside. I like the whole train depot theme they have going. You can smoke outside or play games. All of the employees we spoke with were very nice and the owner is wonderful. The prices are very affordable and they have a good beer list. This place has a very homie and welcoming environment. The beer is cold and the food is amazing. I've met the owner, the manager and several of the bartenders; they are always polite and ready to assist in any way they can. They don't have a liquor licence but have a beer instead, it'll be worth it. There's a spacious outside area which is charming, it also serves as the smoking area. Went in on a Sunday to watch a game and shoot darts. It was nice because there was no waiting and they have STEEL dartboards! NO POOL TABLE any longer. They say Happy Hour all day on Sunday, but $9.00 for a pitcher of Bud Light! WOW! I would hate to see how much it cost when NOT on special. Plenty of TVs and the NFL package. This is gonna be a long one but its worth it so stay with me until the end. This is by far my favorite place in Melbourne and, because I work down the street, it is the place that ive been to the most. I would love to write two reviews, one with 5 stars and one with 1 star, but yelp won't let you do that, so I am writing one with 3 stars. You will see why when you read more. Here's the overview. It tries to act like a restaurant, but its a bar. Thats not a bad thing, this bar has the best food in town. They actually have a classicly trained head chef! He could be working in a gourmet bistro, but he has decided to make really good pub/comfort food instead. The wings are the best I've ever had, and their chef makes all of the sauces from scratch. He always has a specialty sauce, and its always something creative. There has been Tandoori, cilantro-lime, carolina bbq (yum!), and a sauce called Asian Persuasion. He also patties the burgers from fresh ground meat, hand makes the blackening seasoning, the gravy, the dipping sauces, and whatever specialties they have. They had a bratwurst special a while back with fresh made red and white kraut, it tasted better than Edelweiss. The only negative that I can point out is the pierogis, they kinda taste like cardboard coated paper mache. But try the quesadillas OMG! The place itself offers indoor and outdoor seating. There is also a large grassy area for lawn games. And the back wall is home to the biggest projection tv I have ever seen. Overall, it is the best place in downtown, maybe in the whole town, except. Here's the bad. Chumley's depot is a tale of two managers. It is a great place, but mostly during the day, the night manager/cook leaves a lot to be desired. His cooking is subpar at best. I have ordered a medium well burger and gotten a hockey puck. So I ordered a medium rare burger and I got a hockey puck. He routinely singes the cheese fries. His quesadillas are often overseasoned and soggy, somehow. And his wings are always slightly overdone. If those were the only offenses it would be forgivable, but, in the front of the house, he is often found sitting at a table doing nothing or sitting outside playing cards. There have been times when his bartender was deep in the weeds and he didnt lift a finger to help her. Whenever he gets a food order he is visibly and sometimes audibly upset that he has to get up and cook. And the apathy shows in the food. I have overheard other customers say that they don't want to order food if he's cooking, simply because they dont want to bother him. Its disappointing and disgraceful. But there's a flip side. Here's the good. The day manager/cook is one of the most hardest working people I have ever seen. He is knowledgable about all the beer and wine and he makes sure that the beer taps are always rotating so there is always something new to try. Did I mention that Chumley's had the best and coldest beer in town? As a complete opposite to the other guy, I dont think I have ever seen this guy sit down. Everything he cooks is perfection. When he is in the kitchen he makes the best burger in Brevard (if they could just steal the bread recipe from the Burger Place). Every wing is perfectly cooked. Even the mozzarella sticks come out perfect. At 7pm-ish shift change I have heard and seen and been one of the patrons who hurry up and order their food before this daytime manager leaves simply because they are afraid of the nighttime guy making their food. My only complaint is that sometimes the food takes a little longer to come out of the kitchen when he is back there, but its worth the wait. He is always buzzing around, cleaning tables, helping the bartender (a special kudos to Lois, the daytime bartender, she is amazeing), cleaning, and I even caught him doing landscaping one day. And he does all this with a smile on his face and some witty comment on his lips. Heres the kicker, the daytime manager is also the head chef that I mentioned before. I got a scare a little over a month ago because I stopped by for lunch a few times and the place was closed. I thought it went out of business, but I was happily mistaken. The day manager was out of town and the night manager was supposed to open for lunch and he simply neglected to do so. I have also stopped by after midnight and found the door locked even though the hours say that they are open until 2am every day. So he opens late and closes early, routinely. That type of irresponsible behavior and disregard for customers would usually be enough for me to dismiss a place and never return, but I got a hankering for the wings and I went back. Now I'm hooked all over again. Overall its a refeshing change from the normal downtown nightlife. The prices are the most reasonable in town. The food is the best, half the time. And its a great location, once you find the place. read more
