Located in the Pearl Kai Center across from the Sumida Watercress Patch and Pearlridge, this place is very clean and spacious. The AYCE menu includes a buffet of sauces for dipping your cooked meats and vegetables, raw vegetables, raw seafood that includes fish and shrimp, fish balls, kamaboko, tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and a variety of noodles to add to your selected hot pot broth. There are many broths to choose from and the spice level can be customized. Just ask if the soup starts off spicy or if it has no spice at all to get the heat level that is right for you. The owner asked if we wanted to add an order of spring rolls which we did, and they were straight out of the fryer and tasty. They were accompanied by the usually vegetables of lettuce leaves, rice noodles, basil leaves and a dipping fish sauce. We ordered the pork belly slices and brisket slices to start to be added to our broth. The miso shoyu broth was very flavorful and the crab broth had a slight spicy sour kick to the nice crab flavor. The AYCE price is $29.99 per person and there is a 2 hour limit. Ample parking when we went for lunch, but there are many popular restaurants in this complex and parking can be a bit sparse if you come for dinner or the weekends.

Been dining here a handful of times. I called at 6:00 and requested a table. We were greeted by Bill & Heidi upon entering. This time I tried the Ponzu Broth and Reuben chose the Spicy Beef Broth. Both were excellent!! For Meat Choice: I started with Brisket & Eye Round Steak and Reuben started with Brisket & Pork Belly. We went to get our sides at the sauce station. I got my usual Basa fish, CUTE little egg noodle, Shitake mushrooms, broccoli, bean sprouts, baby corn, Kabocha (pumpkin), white onions, garlic, & their house special sauce. It was so delicious!!! All of their broths have been consistently good so we are very happy about that!!! MAHALO

Aunty there was super welcoming and topped our glasses regularly. Her presence was so warm and the food was great! Our party was 4 adults and 2 kids. everybody was full and it was all under $150 dollars not including tip, a steal considering the location was amongst great restaurants.

Amazing, and I mean amazing service. Which pains me to have 3 stars. Immediately upon walking in, we are warmly greeted by the auntie and seated. We're checked on very 10-20 minutes. Other than the meat and broth, it's self service buffet style. Here are the negatives. They don't have that many options, missing some of my favorite hot pot items, such as enoki mushrooms, udon, and quail eggs. The meat was all chewy. I ordered 3 out of 4 of the meat options, excluding chicken. The two beef options were very chewy, and the pork belly had the skin left on so it was chewy as well. But the pork belly was the least chewy. They have a lot of broths to choose from, I think about 20. Which gives a very nice selection. It would've been nice to have a ladle with holes in addition to the normal ladle to get any strays with ease. They offer rice, but with hotpot, noodles are superior! Decent sauce selection, must ask for chili peppers! Must!!! I would pay the extra $10 to go elsewhere for better ingredients and meat quality. This is the kind of place you go to for the vibes of the super nice auntie lol.

**rounding down from a 3.5/5** Service was super good and the aunty working was so friendly! Unfortunately the hot pot and prices were just okay. That said, the spring rolls we tried were delicious and not a bad size so maybe if you stick to the Vietnamese plates you'll have a better experience. We were craving hot pot and decided to give this place a try. The initial price isnt bad (like $28?) Per person. We also added a thai tea and spring rolls, which weren't included in the ayce price. However, there is a 3% credit card fee if you use card instead of cash, and on top of tax and tip our whole meal came out to roughly $100 for two. Mostly rounding down bc the total feels really high for what we got. As for the food: broths were nothing special, very light in flavor. We got beef and spicy bbq. As for meat, the beef steak was tough. Pork belly and brisket were good though, I would stick to those. The sauce selection was pretty decent and had fresh cilantro and green onion, which are my go-tos. The dining room itself was spacious, definitely seemed old but still clean and neat. I don't think I'll return specifically for hotpot, but I might come back for vermicelli.

More yummy soup with our additions.

Time for an update... ROKARU STILL TAKES THE WIN!!…read more We've been to several other hot pot spots around the island over the past years, and we can confidently say Rokaru is still our favorite. The broths (Rokaru broth in particular) are the most flavorful, the protein selection is the best, and the service is consistently outstanding. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and quick to refill or help with anything you need, which really makes the whole experience enjoyable. The self-serve veggie bar is our fave too since they've added fresh enoki mushrooms. For me, I load up on equal parts veggies & meats, so I don't feel too bad going hard on the AYCE haha! It feels like there's something for everyone on the Premium AYCE. Seafood, veggies, appetizers, meats, starches, then the best part is ending with Dave's Ice Cream dessert! Yummy :) We also recently learned they offer a 5% military discount, which is another thoughtful bonus. After trying other places, Rokaru continues to stand out for us with its combination of flavor, freshness, variety, service, and overall value. It's still the hot pot place we recommend first to anyone looking for a solid dinner option. It's become one of those places we keep coming back to because every visit is consistently great. Highly recommend if you're craving hot pot!

The Hubby and I have found our new favorite hot pot place!…read more Shabu shabu yes! All you can eat shabu shabu for $27. EVEN BETTER! Hubby and I came here for a late lunch, and found only another couple there. Turns out, they recently opened up about 2 weeks ago, but with this place being as good as it is, I don't think it will be slow for long. We were told by the owners that they will be adding new menu items next Monday (4/19/21). So I guess I will have to stop by next week. With AYCE shabu set you order the meats through the server, then they call you up for the veggies and sauce they serve and plate it for you. All you do is point and tell them what you want and how much of it and they put it on a plate. There was a good selection of veggies, noodles, and add ons. We got the miso-shoyu broth because it was listed as a favorite and it was delicious! Our server asked if it was our first time there, and we told him it was. So he replied ok I'll get you 2 of all the meat for each of you. It's like he read our mind because that's what we wanted. I'm looking forward to the new items they will be having soon. We will definitely be going back again and again.

Service was friendly and fine. They leave a pitcher of water on your table to refill yourself. They often came back to check up on us for the first hour. They have a lot of broth choices and so far out of the 3 I tried "Ponzu Soup, Cream Peanut Soup and Spicy Beef Soup" I liked the Ponzu the best. Which honestly did not sound that great but I was wrong and it has more flavor than places like Shabuya and Hawaii Pot Shabu Shabu. Meat quality is ok. Beef cuts are lean with a fat cap on it which requires you to cook it longer so that the fat has time to soften up and taste better. Their pork belly is good just like other hotpot places. Their tongue is not very worth it. Tendon is good but pricey with the additional cost. Sauces are minimal and taste fine. The sauce that requires to be spooned out of the container next the squeeze bottles is very good I def would recommend that. I feel like this place will have a hard time competing with other establishments in the shopping center imo but hopefully it picks up soon and gets popular and better. I don't know any other places in PC where you can eat AYCE hotpot except Rokaru which I haven't been since they first opened which I honestly didn't care for.

I could understand same portion size and higher prices, but they've reduced their portions and increased their prices. Choose one. Tonight took the cake though as the server we had was just plain awful. Wish we got his name but he had larger framed glasses and kind of puffy thin hair. Very sassy, rude and inattentive with no tact. He should not be a server, there were other food runners there that had more manners and decency than him. We got there before happy hour and most of our party was already seated. He took only three out of the six people's on our tables order so by the time we got there our whole party didn't get a chance to order happy hour. When asked if we could still order happy hour bc we've been trying to flag him down he just says "no" with a smile and then says "you got your drinks in". While taking our regular order, my MIL ordered the konbu broth not knowing it wasn't flavored so she asked him about it and all he said was "well what do you want?" She then asked for a side of dashi to help flavor the broth and he replies "what's dashi?". You work in a Japanese nabe restaurant.... How do you not know what dashi is. Anyway he sassily says "you mean soup?". He also didn't even have the decency to walk over to them to get their order and expected them to order over the 4 other people in the party when they were clearly seated in separate booths. We also ordered a Korean fried chicken appetizer which took super long to come out. Pretty sure he forgot about it bc it was all cold by the time it got to us. No apologies or anything and you could already guess the attitude given when asked about it, I literally had to enunciate KOREAN. FRIED. CHICKEN. to him in order for him to understand what I was talking about. At this point we're all collectively over his attitude. He didn't check in throughout the meal, couldn't take count of a simple order for ponzu and goma sauce and only came back when it was time to pay. Our party had to ask another waitress for our end of the meal udon, zosui and desserts that came with the kids meal. Broth was all burnt and gross at this point... Just the type of experience where you feel like you're inconveniencing the server by dining there. Not to mention their bathrooms are disgusting. There was literally pink mold growing around the women's bathroom sink faucets so don't know how often they clean the place. Spend your money elsewhere where it's appreciated. We won't be back here.

I specifically told the server that I did not want four all-you-can-eat meals because the kids didn't want shabu-shabu. I asked if there were other options, and she said yes, they have side orders. I asked what they had, and she mentioned items like fried shrimp and 2-piece Wagyu sushi. I even asked how much the Wagyu sushi cost, and she said $6, so I ordered two shrimp and two Wagyu sushi orders, believing we could order à la carte. Instead, she later brought four full meat platters without ever confirming that we were being signed up for four all-you-can-eat meals. When the bill arrived, we were charged 4 × $48 (over $200). What makes this even more deceptive is that none of the side orders we requested were charged separately. It felt like the only objective was to charge us for four all-you-can-eat meals, regardless of what we actually asked for. To make matters worse, we were the only customers in the restaurant, which made the whole experience even more surprising. I honestly don't understand how this place has so many positive reviews. I left feeling completely misled and defrauded. If you decide to eat here, make sure you get every charge explained clearly before ordering. Located in Pearl Kai Shopping Center, Build Your Own Rmaen (BYOR) opened on December 26, 2018 offering create your own bowl of noodles. As a townie and not keen to fight traffic, I've bookmarked this business and finally made it here after 6 years. Late to the party but better than never... I was invited to celebrate a birthday with noodles and was asked to give suggestions near Pearl City area. I immediately jumped and mentioned BYOR, and used next door neighbor Island Glazed Donuts as an incentive. No further explanation needed so I took off 1/2 day from work to attend this get together. It was a right decision to come here for lunch as traffic from town was light and lots of parking as we arrived on a Wednesday. With many shared businesses in this lot, parking can get challenging here. The restaurant was fairly empty as I arrived at 1215pm and sat on a long table for our group of 5. They have picture menus so it's easy to follow the instructions to order. Interior was bright and welcoming with many signs of food pictures posted on the walls and as well on each table. Near the entrance are 2 long showcases of meats and vegetables. Signs advise you the price and there's also a laminated chart on the wall near the scale that calculates your cost as your bowl is dependent on the weight. You grab an empty basket and pair of tongs and you select what you want. For me, I chose head on shrimp, book tripe, beef tendon, fish ball with roe, squid, bamboo shoots, black fungus, fried tofu, pumpkin slices and king mushroom. You take your basket to the register to have it officially weighed where you also select your broth and type of starch. I was craving a curry broth but unfortunately that wasn't an option. I then took a leap of faith by trying the spicy sour cabbage broth. In addition to each of us getting our bowl of noodles, my sister also wanted to try their spring rolls. Perhaps because it wasn't busy our food came out quickly. Piping hot, our creations were nicely presented with toppings nicely arranged. We snapped away with our cameras and it was finally time to dig in. THE VERDICT: Overall, very impressed with the food quality and execution. Loved how tender the book tripe and beef tendon were. The head on shrimp were cooked until perfection - - juicy and lots of shrimp head fat. Yummo!!! My noodles had a great chew and bounce, however, I wasn't a real fan of the spicy sour cabbage broth. Kinda tasted like a tom yum koong but somewhat funky. I jazzed up my creation with their housemade satay sauce that was off the charts. Highly recommended. Service was above average as the staff came to check up on us and refilled our water cups. She even came to see if we had room for our complimentary Taiwanese style shave ice dessert that comes with ramen orders. This bowl was heavenly. So refreshing and cooled our palates down after a hot bowl of noodles. We enjoyed our first visit to BYOR and will be back again. I'll be sure to order another broth and perhaps sample other appetizers that got my attention. NOTE. You pay for your meal after you're done. My bowl was a whopping $35. For a party of 5 service charge of 18% was automatically tacked on to our bill. You also have the option of adding more gratuity in addition to the automatic service charge. 2026 #55
