The empty restaurant should have been our 1st sign...I'm not sure how I felt about this place. It felt dirty inside. I got the feeling the food was old, or at least stretched to as close to the expiration as possible. As someone else mentioned, there's no sneeze guard, food just swimming around in water. A bunch of the veggies/sides were old- like broccoli with black on it, the fish had hair in it, the fish cake was slimey. The meat in the refrigerator was guarded by a worker- like, don't even look at it! There's really no service besides bringing you the broth & a pitcher of water. Located in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center, this bright, clean, spacious, air-conditioned environment has a very welcoming and friendly owner. She explained how to order the broth and proteins from her, then she adjusted our table top stoves for us after the workers placed our pots of broth in front of us. We all ordered Set A for $29.99, plus tax and tip. We skipped the chicken and pork options and just ordered the beef brisket and steak. At the buffet line, we enjoyed the shrimp, fish filets, fish balls, kamaboko, bean curd, tofu, kobocha, spinach, cabbage, black fungus, glass noodles, udon, egg noodles, and much more! Located in the Pearl Kai Center across from the Sumida Watercress Patch and Pearlridge, this place is very clean and spacious. The AYCE menu includes a buffet of sauces for dipping your cooked meats and vegetables, raw vegetables, raw seafood that includes fish and shrimp, fish balls, kamaboko, tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and a variety of noodles to add to your selected hot pot broth. There are many broths to choose from and the spice level can be customized. Just ask if the soup starts off spicy or if it has no spice at all to get the heat level that is right for you. The owner asked if we wanted to add an order of spring rolls which we did, and they were straight out of the fryer and tasty. They were accompanied by the usually vegetables of lettuce leaves, rice noodles, basil leaves and a dipping fish sauce. We ordered the pork belly slices and brisket slices to start to be added to our broth. The miso shoyu broth was very flavorful and the crab broth had a slight spicy sour kick to the nice crab flavor. The AYCE price is $29.99 per person and there is a 2 hour limit. Both were excellent!! For Meat Choice: I started with Brisket & Eye Round Steak and Reuben started with Brisket & Pork Belly. We went to get our sides at the sauce station. Since Green Papaya closed on Keeaumoku () we had to go to the new location in Pearl Kai! You can choose the hot pot experience or opt for the Green Papaya menu. I personally feel like family when I dine here and always have a warm and wonderful meal. Pros: - The food is tasty! Albeit, I mainly order the Tom Yum soup with Rice Noodles and Chicken with spring rolls... but the pho is also a fave among my friends. - I also love the assortment of Tapioca that I enjoy at the end of the meal. You can choose Banana, Taro, or Sweet Potato. The main lady that helps out in the front was so rude and disrespectful. They have these soft drinks that has "refills". She mentioned any of the canned drinks are refillable. I'm on my 3rd drink and asked for another can. She told me "oh you're really thirsty, you drink too much already not good for you". Like excuse me ma'am? Yes i know this but if it says refillable. Amazing, and I mean amazing service. Which pains me to have 3 stars. Immediately upon walking in, we are warmly greeted by the auntie and seated. We're checked on very 10-20 minutes. Other than the meat and broth, it's self service buffet style. Here are the negatives. They don't have that many options, missing some of my favorite hot pot items, such as enoki mushrooms, udon, and quail eggs. The meat was all chewy. I ordered 3 out of 4 of the meat options, excluding chicken. The two beef options were very chewy, and the pork belly had the skin left on so it was chewy as well. But the pork belly was the least chewy. They have a lot of broths to choose from, I think about 20. Which gives a very nice selection. It would've been nice to have a ladle with holes in addition to the normal ladle to get any strays with ease. They offer rice, but with hotpot, noodles are superior! Decent sauce selection, must ask for chili peppers! Must!!! I would pay the extra $10 to go elsewhere for better ingredients and meat quality. That said, the spring rolls we tried were delicious and not a bad size so maybe if you stick to the Vietnamese plates you'll have a better experience. We were craving hot pot and decided to give this place a try. The initial price isnt bad (like $28?) Per person. We also added a thai tea and spring rolls, which weren't included in the ayce price. However, there is a 3% credit card fee if you use card instead of cash, and on top of tax and tip our whole meal came out to roughly $100 for two. Mostly rounding down bc the total feels really high for what we got. As for the food: broths were nothing special, very light in flavor. We got beef and spicy bbq. As for meat, the beef steak was tough. Pork belly and brisket were good though, I would stick to those. The sauce selection was pretty decent and had fresh cilantro and green onion, which are my go-tos. The dining room itself was spacious, definitely seemed old but still clean and neat. I don't think I'll return specifically for hotpot, but I might come back for vermicelli. read more

We came here with a group of friends back in July on a random Wednesday. The restaurant was very clean, and not too busy. I liked how there was a cooler bar where you can help yourself to sauces, vegetables, starches, and some seafood. Since you're making your own food in the hot pot broth, you can't really mess that up. Spacious and clean, and if they aren't busy, you won't leave smelling of broth. Their sides are laid out cafeteria style, so don't head straight to the fridge when grabbing them. Instead, just grab a plate and tongs. There's only two dipping sauce choices, a weakly spicy sauce and a ponzu sauce. They have quite a few broth choices, but their all you can eat meat options are limited. Other places have overall more choices, but you aren't missing anything major here. Initially called on same day to inquire about business hours and prices regarding lunch AYCE shabu buffet for adults and kids. Gentleman on the phone with a pleasant voice informed me about regular prices for adults and kids. Also offered 20% off AYCE per adult and 20% off AYCE per child. While my husband and I discussed prices and calculations, I was surprised again that same gentleman called me via phone and asked if I want to make reservations. I kindly informed him that I'm getting a head count and will return phone call. Gentleman thanked me. My husband and I agreed the prices are good. I called establishment to schedule lunch reservations for 12:30 p.m. We arrived at 12:15 p.m. and were greeted by Owners. Same gentleman recognized my voice and asked if I'm the one that called earlier. I exclaimed, "Yes." We're seated right away, given menus and thoughtful to bring us a pitcher of water. One of the owners asked us if we want rice with our order. My husband said, "One bowl please." Choice of 21 different soups. Pot Pot Ponzu Soup: Such a clean tasting broth. Loved that I'm able to add and taste veggies and proteins without changing broth flavor. Pot Pot Miso Soup: My husband said he really enjoyed miso broth. My daughter and I happened to find this restaurant driving around this center and I had it bookmarked for awhile. The price is reasonable per person but for kids that are older than 11, they charge a full adult price. I didn't like that rule but it was worth the money. The lady basically explained how the process works for first timers. Apparently there were two other ladies that came in that were also first timers but the Asian lady was aggressive lol Anyway, I picked the miso shoyu based soup and you put your noodles and veggies on a plate. You pick your sauce. Then take it back while you wait for your soup to be brought out to be boiled on the stove. You can lessen or turn off when you're completely done. I decided to get a diet Coke while my daughter got a Thai tea which isn't pictured. She really liked this place. There were not many people inside around the time we came. They do have the regular soup and plates menu that they offered before PLUS the Shabu Shabu Buffet if you want. We were originally planning to go to Rokaru for shabu shabu but they're closed since they're moving locations, so we had to find another place to eat. We decided to try here. It's more of a Pho Buffet. Husband and I don't care for pho. Service was quick and Aunty was nice but I felt like I was in a Buy Me Drinky Bar. Aunty asked if we wanted spring rolls while we waited for the rest of our party so my husband and I said yes. Not too long after they brought out 3 orders of spring rolls and didn't stay around long enough for us to let them know we didn't order the other 2 plates. I believe the spring rolls were $16 a plate... and they sat there getting cold till the rest of the party arrived. 21 choices for broths... they all taste the same. My nephew's literally tasted like salt water - no other flavors detected. The rest tasted like pho soup because of the basil and other spices. I would say stick to a basic 5-8 broths and keep them simple. Only 3 meats to choose from unless you want to pay more. Veggies and other sides were a decent selection. Not a place any of our party of 12 would be returning to. Well maybe for the spring rolls. lol read more

Pot Pot took over the old Hot Pot Heaven space in Pearl Kai, which is a wonderful bit of diversity to maintain. I always felt that ala carte hot pot places were a poor value, since we always eat enough to pay for AYCE anyway, so it's nice to have that change of pace. We were drawn by the 20% off signs posted outside, which brings the price down to $24 per person - a nice discount from the usual 30pp price in town. I've never been to Pot Pot, but it looks like this is their second location, with the original in town. It's a deceivingly spacious dining room, with a worryingly small amount of people going in and out. We were seated immediately with only two other parties on a holiday. Immediate points for a sauce bar - nothing beats making your own sauces with all the garlic and chilis you want. They provide a bowl of rice at no charge and have a ridiculous 21 choices for broths (choose up to 2). We went with the miso & shoyu and the shiitake mushroom soup. Both were very tasty. Selection is smaller than other places for both meat and sides, but still impressive even with the price discount. I was surprised to see shrimp, mussels, and squid as included options, as well as wood ear mushrooms, shiitake, and whole eggs. Lots of beef/pork/fishcake balls, leafy vegetables, and six types of noodles. The meats you can order are chicken, pork belly, beef steak, and beef brisket. Additional $3 for lamb, ribeye, and beef tongue. We had mostly beef steak and beef brisket, both of which lacked marbling and turned quite tough after cooking. We had one order of pork belly which was very fatty, which could be good or bad depending on what you like. Regardless, the sauce bar helped balance the flavors. Overall experience was positive, we were full and didn't break the bank on an AYCE experience. I'd rather pay more for a better selection of meat and sides at a place like Shabuya, but it's convenient for us to get to and cheaper than alternatives. read more

Owner was super nice and checked in with us. I've been to a few hot pot places and this is one of the better ones in my opinion. No need all the fancy stuff. Just simple cuts of meat, different fresh stuff at the bar, and they even had Vietnamese coffee which was excellent. Cost was reasonable and similar to other AYCE hot pot spots. This is one of my favorite hot pot places! My family has been going to them for years since they were in their Honolulu location. It's sad that they had to close that location down, however my husband and I were excited to see aunty at the aiea location! We had great service from her and her staff. Aunty was always checking in making sure the food and us were good! My husband got the peanut broth and I got the Chinese herb broth. Both were extremely flavorful!
