Chicken Fried Noodles (generous portion)
Deez J.

Customer rapport and service has changed. Three new workers now minus one of the original gals. In addition, during my last few visits, the owner wasn't at the counter. He had such a smiley face and vibrant persona. If something was not right with my order, I could count on him to fix it. Had a problem with a recent order and mentioned it to the new guy during my following visit. No apology nor remedy given. It would have been handled better if the original gal and owner were present.

I've been spending a lot of time in Waimalu lately... I didn't realize the variety of places in the strip mall. One of the hidden gems is Waimalu Tasty BBQ located in Palama Supermarket (next to the cash registers). It is just a counter where you place your order. The employee we always see is this young boy. He is always courteous and polite and the food is always made fresh. They have the most reasonable (and tasty) bentos for $7.50. Each bento comes with your choice of protein, mandoo, rice and a banchan. I always sub the rice for a second banchan! The bentos offered are: mochiko chicken, bbq chicken, katsu, fried shrimp, fried fish, tempura, meat jun ($1.50 more), and musubi combo. If you want to eat there, there is an area with tables and chairs at the very entrance of the supermarket. We usually take our bentos and eat in our car. So so good! We eat at least once a week. Sometimes twice on Saturdays.

The place is located inside Palama Supermarket. The parking was a bit challenging, since we visited around lunchtime when other food establishments were also busy. I found this buy one get one deal for Mini Garlic Shrimp and Mini Mochiko Chicken on Uber Eats and decided to give their food a try and schedule orders for pickup. I paid $16.90 for the "BOGO" mini garlic shrimp and $17.80 for the "BOGO" mochiko chicken. However, it's worth noting that this BOGO price deal is a bit off and prices on UberEats are usually more expensive than in-store prices. When I checked the in-store menu, the mini shrimp plate was priced at $9.95 per plate, and the Mochiko Chicken was $9.50 per plate. So, while the UberEats prices for this "BOGO" deal were still about 20% cheaper for two mini plates, the price was a bit misleading. As for the taste, the garlic shrimp was just average. The plate came with five shrimp, a cup of rice, and mac salad. The mac salad was more sour than what I've had at other local plate lunch places. The shrimp lacked salt and flavor and they seemed to have just been fried with some garlic added afterward. On the other hand, the mochiko chicken stood out a bit. It was different from the usual flavor at local restaurants, because their mochiko was on the sweeter side, but it was juicy and cooked well. While there was nothing particularly wrong with the plates we got, I personally prefer getting my plate lunch somewhere else.

Quick and easy Located inside the Palama Supermarket, you wouldn't know it's in here because they don't have any outside signs. I found this place by accident. I was grabbing some items at the supermarket when I noticed this place. It's the typical Korean BBQ. They serve the same items you would get at a Yummy's or Pearl's. IDK if this is a chain store like the ones I mentioned? One main difference is that you don't see the sides. They are located at the kitchen and not typically displayed out front. Was feeding the family so I got a family plate. It was generous for the price and you do get a loyalty card. There is limited seating to wait or eat there and it's clean. Overall four stars. Ordering was easy and my order came out at a respectable time. Now excuse me, people are hungry. M

No NO NO! Never again. Uber eats had this place buy one get one free so we've been ordering the mochiko plate a few times .. well now we will never again eat here . Here's some pictures ... I ate one thinking it was seasoning .. upon further inspection ... OMG . A roach! There was multiple roaches in my food . I spit it out so fast! If I was stuck on my show I would've ate the whole plate ... omg makes me wonder previously eating there what have I eaten ... 0 stars . Food and safety no, this place in a market as well another restaurant .. they gotta see if they get roach problem .. one has it they all do !

**Ordered through uber eats so i cant vouch for the restaurant Haven't tried this place out yet and seen that uber eats delivers - didn't wanna be out on this chilly windy night. Ordered a cheeseburger combo which according to the uber eats menu it was a popular choice. Also tried ordered the Garlic shrimp plate as there was a uber eats special buy one plate get one free - they had me at "free". Extremely satisfied with my choices! Cheeseburger tasted home made and sure was hearty either way all the fix-ins like tomatoes, onions, lettuce etc. burger came with fries and the fries were good as well - perfectly cooked! Garlic shrimp was delicious! Will be coming back! Devoured the burger before taking a pic - oops

This place is located inside the Waimalu Palama market. Got their mochiko chicken and bulgogi combo plate. They sell other local plate options besides Korean bbq and bentos.

My husband and I got Dinner from this restaurant today. We ordered Mochiko Chicken with Kim chee. We Enjoyed our dinner and we took advantage of the buy one get one free offer on Uber Eats. This Restaurant is located inside Palama Market in Aiea. The food here is amazing and reasonably priced. This is one of our favorite places to order food from. I recommend checking them out. They might have something your craving.

I had received a coupon for this place in my junk mail & after reading the rave reviews from fellow, yelpers - mahalo!, thought I'd give them a shot. They are located in the Waimalu Shopping center, across the street from Cutter Ford inside the Palama Market. That is one busy parking lot on a Saturday afternoon! Didn't think it was going to be that busy since it was way after lunch, about 2PM. But since the majority of this shopping center are food places plus it was the holiday season, I had to circle the parking lot twice. They recently opened for business in the fall & I believe they took over the spot where another 8Korean take-out was. When you enter the market, it's located to the right in the back by a cash register. There's was a young high school kid manning the counter but was looking at his phone. He didn't acknowledge me right away but when he finally did, he was cordially nice. This front area of the market also has a couple eating places. There are a few dine-in tables, most of it is take-out orders. Before I got there, I perused their menu online. I was looking for BBQ pork & in their menu a few months back, they had it but when I viewed the menu when I got there, they only had 1 pork entree dish, everything else was beef or chicken. I asked to be sure they didn't have it & he said no BBQ pork. Disappointing! The pork entree they had was a garlic pork chop. I wanted to try the garlic chicken since the reviews were favorable. So I placed my order to cover lunch & dinner for me & my hubby. FOOD BBQ chicken sandwich - ONO! Served on a good-sized sesame bun with 2 big pieces of boneless/skinless thighs, mayo, & lettuce. Extra $ if you want cheese/deluxe. Very tasty sandwich, very messy, but worth it for only $4.50. Garlic fish plate $14.95 (for the hubs) with all mac, substituted for rice. Fish was also ono, well-seasoned, & just enough garlic to taste & not overpower the other seasonings. Not sure what kind of fish this was, I think white fish? but they gave 3 big pieces of fish plus 3 huge scoops of mac salad. Hubs had enough food there for 2 dinners. Combo garlic chicken/garlic pork chop $16.95. I decided to give the pork chop a try. Normally I don't order pork chops out because it's always served dry. I got 2 huge pieces of thinly sliced pork chops, well-seasoned, lightly breaded, just enough garlic, & surprisingly not dry. ONO! Garlic chicken was in bite-sized pieces, also well-seasoned & tasty They gave a generous serving, even for a combo. There was tons of garlic which overpowered the overall taste. I wanted to love it, but there was too much garlic for me to enjoy it. After I had paid, I noticed the sign on the counter with pics which said if you didn't want rice or mac salad, you could substitute it for the following: choi sum, corn, kim chee, potato, bean sprouts, & the last item I didn't get it in the pic. All are the typical side veggies at a Korean eatery. All this was at no extra charge so I was able to switch the rice & mac for kim chee, choi sum, & sprouts. Veggies were great! For the mac salad, we thought it was ok, but way too much mayo. I was able to use my coupon for 15% off & they give out a frequent buyer card. For every 10 plates you buy, you get a $10 off - yes!!! They also have daily specials listed on a sign at the counter & you can order online for pick-up. Overall, we enjoyed our food at Tasty BBQ. We'll probably be back to try other menu items. PROS- -generous serving of food, reasonable prices -easy to find, free parking -they cook to go so food is freshly made. It's not fast food, I waited about 10-15 minutes, but it's hot. -love the veggie options if you don't want rice or mac CONS- -too much garlic on the garlic chicken & too much mayo in the mac salad -during busy times/weekends/holidays, parking lot can get full & since it's one way around the lot, sometimes you have to keep circling -no BBQ pork

My mother in law ordered food for me and my daughter. She got us both garlic chicken plates which comes with Mac salad and a scoop of rice. This was so filling and delicious. The garlic chicken was cooked perfectly and tasty. I definitely enjoyed it. When I get a little extra money, I definitely want to try the fried rice and noodles. They sell burgers and fries for those who don't want Chinese food. A major plus. Located inside the Palama market. I have not yet been there but I will definitely make my way when I get paid again. So worth the money and pretty affordable with the amount of food you get. Parking is usually full during the weekends but parking probably isn't so bad during the weekday.

Had a busy day - no time to make dinner so I came here. I ordered 2 side orders meat Jun and 1 Kim chee fried rice for 3 adults. Food was delicious! Prices lower than most Korean/chinese bbq take out, customer service was great, and best of all, there were still leftovers for my husband's home lunch the next day!

It looked huge and inviting. The burger itself tasted good as it was cooked with bread mixed in it to make it soft but once you started eating it, the burger fell apart. The bun was thin so it was messy as the sauce and burger started falling out and you needed a lot of napkins. Some people like it messy but it's not my thing. The onions and pickles were a perfect match. Too much American cheese. ________________________________________________ The Premium Purists: 5/10 I was looking forward to trying the burger at Forty Niners and hoped it would be an old fashioned/traditional style deluxe burger. It definitely had the look and right toppings but the patty was a little disappointing. After my first two bites the patties crumbled into pieces and the texture seemed off. It was too mushy and lacked good beef flavor. After learning they mix breadcrumbs in their burger patty, I think the patties I got were not mixed well and the ratio of beef and breadcrumb was off. That is probably why the texture was off, it lacked beef flavor, and crumbled. I would honestly give it another try and go with a single patty. ________________________________________________ The stack analyst: 7/10 Tried the double cheeseburger(dirty style) at 49ers and it was delicious. The fried pickles were the highlight for me. I love fried pickles and they worked really well on the burger. They also didn't hold back on the caramelized onions, which added flavor. The burger had four slices of cheese, so it was definitely rich. The patty had a nice sear on the outside, it did fall apart though. I would've liked a little more salt, but I know that comes down to preference. Bun was nothing special, just your standard setup, but it got the job done. I'd definitely come back and order it again! ________________________________________________ Double stack daddy: 6/10 The burger had a solid foundation, but it was missing flavor and could've used more seasoning. The biggest downside was the bun--it fell apart after the first bite, making the rest of the meal messy. Not a bad burger, but it didn't stand out, and there's definitely room for improvement. ________________________________________________ Bruddah big buns: 4/10 Da patty was mushy. ________________________________________________ Captain messy hands, keeper of the drip: 8/10

Understandably, when I asked if they could make it again, they asked what was wrong and I told them the cheese wasn't melted, which sets my expectations for the next one. They made another one (begrudgingly) and I got the same results as far as the cheese. But at least this one was warm so more heat did hit the cheese, but just not enough to melt it per my request. Ordered by phone the day prior, and just gave them my phone number as usual (it's how they identify you when you pick up, with no worries about duplicate or misspelled names.). Every time I've ordered in advance, our order has always been packed neatly and ready in a box for takeout. (My brother had brought a box just in case, and smoothly offered it to their staff for someone else's future order.) The restaurant has several tables for dining in, and markings on the floor for those waiting in line. It's brightly lit and clean as well. I appreciate their staff, food, service, and generous servings. They make us look so good with our potluck contributions! So what did we order? Half chicken katsu, half chicken wings, a small platter ($45 for the small pan, but picture a much loaded tray) - it's a great value deal! It was the same order our cousins loved when we brought it on Christmas Day (they especially love the wings, but we love the katsu-so this year we asked for half-half instead of all katsu, and they were so happy, ha ha!) Oh, and they give you a nice big container of yummy katsu sauce;)! I like their panko and cooking method, as whatever they do, the chicken is nice and crisp, and tasty - with, or without the sauce, actually. First time that I actually tried the wings, as I'm not a wing person. (I didn't even try it at Christmas, lol.). But, it was nice and crisp, lightly seasoned, and the wings had lots of meat on them. Easy finger food, and they were not dripping in oil, either, which I appreciated! Also ordered (for the first time) a small platter of chicken chow mein (a little over $30?). It was based on a good recommendation by an admittedly biased family member of the owners, and we were pleasantly surprised! The small pan was covered in wrap and then foil, because the mound of noodles was seriously kinda big! My brother was like, quick, go tell mom to come look before we open it (as she's picky, so it's hard to impress her). It was filled with lots of veggies (sliced carrots, cabbage, onions, etc) and bbq chicken pieces, tossed with great flavor (I want to say it was a nice sauce, but this wasn't a wet noodle dish.). My dad added Chinese mustard soy sauce, but my mom and I thought it was perfect the way it was. Oh, don't laugh, we're only a family of four, so yes, we ate two meals - lunch and dinner - and still packed a ton of leftovers! As we watched the game, we commented to each other what great choices we had made. (We also had sushi trays and other treats, and of course, chips, and my brother's dip. My brother said we may not have had a favorite team to cheer on today, but it was a great excuse for a party, ha ha!) I know we're doing a repeat for our next occasion, for sure! We'll gradually try some of their other foods, and it's farther away than we'd like to drive (I know, it's not that far, but we live on the other side, ok?). My brother agrees it's worth the drive - it's across Aloha Stadium and literally in the same spot as Ice Palace; and we saw quite the line at the Taco Bell drive through when we were looking for parking;). He also compared it to the cost and serving size of what we ordered on New Year's, from a restaurant much closer to where we live. Hands down, it was not even a close comparison, his emphasis added. So go here, it's perfect for family dinners and potlucks and I hope you agree with my assessment;)! Oops, I didn't take any pictures, aiya!!!
