First time visit to Clawson Steak House. I grew up and still live in the area but somehow never managed to dine there, until now. Hostess was very attentive and she seated us promptly as we arrived for our reservation. She was hustling all night. Interior was nice and clean, the chairs were extremely comfortable. I was a little sticker shocked at the prices, but I was not aware that each entree is served with soup, salad, and a side. Given that the prices were more acceptable for a steak house type atmosphere. They have a bar for cocktails but no beer on draft, I thought that was a little odd. Bread basket was very good. Warm and fresh bread with some rub of the milk bread sticks and crackers. French onion soup was very good. Although might have been a little over reduced. I would prefer that over a watery alternative. Salad was just a plate of lettuce, cucumber, and cherry tomatoes, with dressing. Nothing special. No cheese or croutons. Steak and potato - first off if multiple people order the same steak at the table they should all be about the same size. That was not the case. The person we were there celebrating had a wonderfully cut and cooked steak. Was about twice the size of mine and a very nice cut. Mine was significantly smaller and a good 1/4 of it was a fat hunk that my dogs got to enjoy. Also the cooks were not as expected. Mine was to be medium rare and the others medium. Mine was medium to medium well. The potato was odd, I've never seen a potato served unopened and dry - no butter. Only a small dollop of sour cream in the side. I asked for baked potato with butter - I'm glad we still had some left over from the bread basket. Finally we were there for the start of the live music. Not sure they have to sing happy birthday for each individual person. We got it five times and then once more with a late arrival. The music was loud and took away from the setting. Finally a big pet peeve is not bringing the check and then taking forever to cash us out. Table is cleared left overs boxed up let us leave! Would I go back maybe. If I had a choice between Texas Roadhouse steak or a Clawson Steakhouse steak I'm choosing Roadhouse. read more

The worst part of the dining experience was the inedible walleye fish. My husband said his fish smelled like some sort of gasoline or chemical and mine had a very questionable texture and taste. We ended up not eating either one of the dishes and left the restaurant hungry. It was a shame because the ambience was very interesting and a relative had recommended the restaurant. The food, service, and ambience are still deserving of five stars. On the most recent visit (9-13-25) we were celebrating a birthday and made reservations. Promptly seated our waitress came over to take our drink order and suggested an appetizer. We got the escargot which is one of my favorites here. What I like about this place is no one is in a rush and everything is spaced out between the courses. On the weekends starting around 7 PM they have the Mark James Band. With a big dance floor it's nice to see people get up to dance. Dinners come with bread service, soup AND salad, as well as a starch of your choice. I recommend the side of linguine with meat sauce. It's excellent. Steaks are expertly prepared as they should be at a high end steakhouse. My prime rib was a perfect medium rare. The birthday boy had the 16 oz New Yorker cooked medium rare with their house made zip sauce. Another excellent choice. There was so much food we ended up with doggy bags and zero room for dessert. PRICEY! I got shrimp scampi over angel hair and it was $32 I was meeting a group of friends or I would have never gone there. Not much to offer a pescatarian especially one who doesn't like cheese. My husband's shrimp and steak was also over priced. The only one who really enjoyed their meal was the friend who ordered the double cut prime rib which was huge. Perfect dinner at the steakhouse! The atmosphere is like an old school jazz club without the need for dressing up. Our waitress was knowledgeable and timely - couldn't ask for anything more. My friend and I opted out of appetizers because the entrees already come with soup, salad, bread, AND an additional side. My entree of the steak and scallops came with the spinach, which was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly as I requested. Lastly, I got the sense that food was made with care here. TL; DR: Awesome and affordable food served to you with "casual elegance," in a classic venue. ALSO, credit where credit is due. Props to Jim I (AKA Yukon Jim) for turning me on to this place! For less than 50 bucks, I got an 8 oz filet, unlimited dinner rolls, a baked potato, a cup of chicken rice soup, and a house salad. And for about the same price, my boy got a 16 oz New York Strip, and all the same accompaniments. FOOD: The first thing into our mouths were externally crispy yet internally soft and dense dinner rolls, with butter. These were delicious, much better than most "pre-meal" bread. Our cups of chicken and rice soup followed and were creamy and satisfying. Next time, I might upgrade to French onion, but the chicken and rice was really good. The (good sized) dinner salads were next. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers, with homemade bleu cheese (or Greek, or vinaigrette, etc)? Hell yeah. So far, this was a pretty good warm up to the main event... Then, THEN, the BEEF WAS SERVED...My son's New Yorker, was perfectly cooked to medium well, and marbled to just the right degree (minimal fat, but enough for flavor). Delicious, he said. Half of it was gone before I could get a pic. My filet? As anticipated, it was beyond perfect. Perfectly cooked to medium. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly cut. I requested that they hold the mushrooms/sauce and substitute the (house specialty) "Zip sauce." No problem. OK, I SHIT YOU NOT, each bite "literally" dissolved into pure outstanding steak flavor in my mouth. Friggin' outstanding. Also with the steaks, came the baked potatos, medium sized, with butter and/or sour cream. Once again, perfect. Somehow, we managed to have the discipline to skip dessert, And although I was tempted to imbibe, I skipped the adult beverages. But as you would expect, the drink list was full of classic cocktails. Wine and spirits? Those too. ATMOSPHERE: Here we go baby...I'm old Skool. I like retro. We rolled up to TCSH and immediately, I fell for the Mid Century Modern building. That set the tone before we even walked in...Time Tunnel to a bygone era. TCSH has been here since 1958. The inside has been updated, but not so much, I'd imagine, that the original vibe has been lost. Inside, the lighting is dim, but it's not too dark. The noise level is medium, it's warm, and it smells fantastic. "Casual elegance" describes the mood and atmosphere. Is this place a throwback? Is it classic? Is it retro? Oh yes...I wouldn't be surprised if the ghosts of Sinatra and Martin were lounging in a quiet corner booth. ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE: We walked in and immediately I felt underdressed. HOWEVER, the hostess was super cool and reassured us that we both looked fine. We were promptly seated, in the last open booth, in the bar area. I was relieved to see that I wasn't the only guy wearing a Rogue hoodie and a ballcap. Next time I come here, though, I'm definitely going to dress up a bit more. Our server was Tracy. Excellent and professional waitress. She joked around a little, made suggestions, explained the menu items, took our orders, checked on us frequently, and kept our drinks topped off. She was FFA (fast, friendly, accurate). PRICES: All things considered, the prices were not bad. In fact, given all that was included with the meal, I'd say the prices was quite reasonable, especially for 2025. Ultimately, it was an excellent (low key) boys night out. My son wanted "meat, with extra meat," and I wanted a cool AF dining experience with great food. We both got what we wanted. Bottom line? TCSH is an awesome, classic, retro establishment with awesome food. This past Saturday was first visit and although our service was absolutely horrible, the food was very good. First impression was...great. The restaurant is dimly lit with beautiful light fixtures and decor, tables were covered in linens and candles on each table. The hostess greeted us and sat us right away. We were immediately given bread and water while we waited....for almost 20 minutes until the waitress greeted us. She had 3 tables besides us and it was very clear we were in her section. There was no other wait staff in this section. She barely checked in on us and offered a 1 refill on my drink and not my husband's the entire time we were there. She also brought out the wrong side dish with his meal...just to add insult to injury. The star of the show was the food. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. My scallops were one of the best I've had, sides were standard for a steak house and salads could have been a little fresher. We will definitely be back the food was very good. I really Have enjoyed eating here in the past, but last night my family went to celebrate my birthday and I was very disappointed in the food. My wife an I both ordered steaks with the loaded baked potato. We had to send them back they were way to salty and over seasoned. I ask for the steak fries and they out dark brown an mixed some was thickcut and other thin. They tasted very old and had been refried to heat them up. At this point I did not want to send anything back. I ordered my steak medium and it came out medium rare. Daughter order the chicken alfredo pasta and she probably only got half of a half chicken breast in the dish. Hopefully, if I return again it would be some improvements. It is a nice place but very loud. It is expensive with a hamburger at almost $21.00. We knew it was a pricey place with dancing and a band. The service was good but we had to ask for our check at the end after waiting a bit. Overall service is good. The menu said we had to order 2 drinks during entertainment which we did. Almost $8 for a bottle of beer. I had the perch which was okay. I have had better. Lived in the area until 2018 and this was one of our favorite steakhouses. Things certainly have changed since our last visit, both in service and atmosphere. Service was slow. Our server seemed to have many large tables so we were not often checked on. Soup and salad came out quickly. But, we waited 45 minutes after finishing salads for our meals....which arrived lukewarm at best. A manager-type individual (he did not identify himself so I'm not sure what his role is) came over to try to argue that our food was only cold because we let it sit too long. We saw him engaging similarly with a nearby table that sent a plate back so this seems to be how guest issues are handled at the Clawson Steakhouse. Sadly, I can no longer recommend the Clawson Steakhouse. Really sad to see this once-cool throwback spot change so drastically. read more

I've lived near this institution for decades and finally went tonight with family for the first time. It was quite a flashback to bygone era from the decor and menu. The interior is dark-paneled from the 1970-80s. My chair had holes from wear in the arms. Service was very nice and attentive. The menu is extensive and full of interesting items. All meals come with bread, soup, salad and a starch or today's vegetable. I got the prime rib (house cut which is the smaller size was huge). Plentiful is the rule at the Clawson Steak House. The prime rib was very tasty. The lamb chops, salmon and ravioli were good as well according to my family. The French onion soup was very average. The key lime pie, made onsite, was lacking in taste and clearly in a poor store bought crust. We had a nice meal, the service was great. read more

Not even a menu, or a greeting. we sat there for about 15 plus mins. and NOTHING! The bus boy was the one who deserves the star. I understand our waitress had a huge party, but she didnt even acknowledge us. Hardly check in with us. We had to ask the bus boy for everything. And onto the food. Oh boy. The Steaks were sub-par. Demi-glaze was like Jello, and 2x baked potato was cold, when they took it back it was STILL cold. How do you mess up a potato 2x??!!! My asparagus was cold and don't get me started on the Lobster bisque! When I said something to the manager, she said oh "you probably got the stuff at the bottom!" Im like what??!!! ewwww it was pure fatlike. The manager was NO help whatsoever. Only offered us dessert, which we didnt take at all! This restaurant needs a COMPLETE revamp! The service has gone down (OK - they're popular so it's super long wait times on a Saturday at 5pm) but the inability for a server to check in on drinks the past two times has been a huge letdown... as they walk past the empty glasses - 20 minutes later. The steaks were nothing to write home about and the salad and sides were eh. The lobster bisque was delicious but for the price of the nearly $200 meal - not worth returning. A hidden gem. The outside seems like it's very dated but inside it's clean and cozy. They have a live band in the evening Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with a dance floor. The waitress was great and attentive. A classy place for a celebration with some good food. The prime rib really hit the mark and reminded me of those up north supper clubs with a Sunday prime rib special. Delicious! Others got the sizzler, which was also good, maybe a tad over salted. Note that they need to sharpen their steak knives, which you would expect to be good at a steakhouse but it was tough to get through the meat but super easy to chew (leftovers at home with our steak knives cut like butter). They have house made dressing for ranch, blue cheese, and Greek. We got the ranch and blue cheese which were delicious. The loaded potato was ok as was the house veggie side. We had an appetizer of shrimp which were 4 large shrimp but a little pricey at $18 a dish. They were out of crème brûlée so we got the lemon cake which was ho-hum.
