I've been working a mile or so from this place for almost two months. A couple times I have thought about going, but when I drove by the line was out the door, and ain't nobody got time for that! So I tried again about two weeks ago...no line! I ordered the spicy chicken strips with mashed potatoes and gravy. The meal came with a honey biscuit and a drink. It was less than $7, not bad! The food did take awhile to prepare, and while I waited, the line started to make it's way outside. Guess I got there at the perfect time. Took the food back to work and loved it! The chicken was HOT, I seriously pretty much burned my mouth on it. But it was good. Super spicy and very juicy. I have always preferred Popeye's, but this chicken was much better. The mashed potatoes were good, and the biscuit was as well. About a week later, my BF asked me to bring it home for dinner. This time I ordered both of us the spicy strips meals, with fried okra and jalapeño poppers as the sides, along with an extra side of mac & cheese. $16 for dinner, again, the wait was sort of long, I guess they are making things fresh here, which is good. Unfortunately I got all the way home and discovered that they gave us plain chicken instead of spicy. It was still good, but I really love the spicy. They were also out of all dipping sauces except BBQ, which was a bummer. I loved the okra, BF loved the jalapeños. I thought the mac & cheese was under seasoned. I got a recommendation to try Church's Chicken from Yelper Rodney S. so I landed up here for lunch a couple of days ago. This is a small restaurant on the corner of Pioneer and Alondra with literally 4 tables inside so at peak lunch hours it is almost impossible to dine in. Before entering I saw that they had a poster outside on the window advertising a 2 piece special ($3.29) that includes a leg, thigh, biscuit and gravy on mashed potatoes that I decided to get (this isn't present on the menu board so if you don't see it outside you'll miss a good deal). You have a choice of getting the original or spicy chicken in the meal. Order fulfillment is very fast in about 5 minutes. Taste wise the chicken is fried perfectly. Nice and crispy outside yet soft and moist on the inside. The gravy on the mashed potatoes is not too salty yet tastes very good. The biscuit is terrific. I'm surprised that Church Chicken manages to do such a good biscuit that can give the ones you get in Soul food restaurants a run for their money. I felt that the original chicken here is better than the spicy chicken which was surprising. Price-wise the 2-piece special is literally one of the cheapest meals that you can eat. Even the regular items are a touch cheaper than the KFC and Popeye's of the world. My experience with following recommendations generally has not been good but Church Chicken bucked that trend. My fav Churchs, been coming here every since i moved to Norwalk in 1993. They cook right in front of you its totally open, and there's a constant flow of traffic so they are cooking fresh chicken non stop. The staff are always polite no matter how busy it is. Descent size parking lot i always manage to find a spot with no problem, the restaurant dining area is really small, 5 tables with 2-4 chairs at each, they also have a walkup window. Whenever there's a break in the crowd they run out to clean & restock the dining area, ive never eaten there too small a space. The biggest chix tenders from a fastfood restaurant that ive ever had. Fried Chicken. My family and I *absolutely* HATE KFC food since we all got sick from eating there. My mom got sick too, and my bro and his friend mentioned that they got sick at one point, too. F'n KFC... never again!!! Enter Church's Chicken. Yes. It's fried. So it's gonna be greasy. But, look. This place always has some line formed around it, and it's not just the people waiting for the bus! I like how they write your order on the bottom of the box and repeat back to you as to not mess up your order. And that whole open kitchen deal? Way cool... You can see which pieces of chicken they're giving you, and you can see the divider between spicy and regular. They have a nice assortment of sides and there is always some kind of deal that any budget can handle. Church's Chicken??? I dig it. And they have yet to get my family sick, so YAY!!! read more

I'll bet I've been here 15 time at 11 am and every time They have internet problems or they say it's gonna take 20 minutes before food is ready. Suggestion.... Start an employee early. I love the biscuits here. They are very tasty. Add some honey and butter, and I'm in food heaven. Crisp on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. My thighs curse you but my mouth thanks you. The chicken is also really good! Very crispy and well seasoned without being too salty. Kind of reminds me of the old Pioneer Chicken, but with more flavor. Yeah, I'm way old school like that! Only thing bad about this place is the location. I'm always a bit hesitant to stop by if it's dark out. The neighborhood seems a little intimidating by night for me. My guy up front was super weird about letting me into the bathroom, some qt is out here in the lobby spraying bleach on tables like I'm not two feet away, and honestly it took a great deal of time for the good to pop up. When I feel like having a cheat meal (which is often), I always find my way back to Church's. Of the fast food fried chicken chains, Church's beats them hands down. I always opt for the dark meat combo and everything is fried very nicely (not too oily) and the meat is tender and juicy. They have a range of sides: the usual suspects like coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese and some other unique items like jalapeno poppers and okra. I've had everything but the okra, but I imagine you can't mess up something fried. All are great choices. The biscuits here are different too- fluffy texture inside but with a crunch on the top of these bad boys--seems like a double egg wash on top. I do prefer KFC's biscuits over these. My only gripe about this place, which is minor, is that I would never elect to actually eat inside here. There is scarce seating, it faces a busy street corner, and on the few visits I have had here, the seating area is unkept--let's just hope it is more sanitary in the back where they make the good stuff. All in all, a good choice for fried chicken on the run. I'm relieved that I don't live closer to this place because that would be bad news! read more

This place is the closest place now that all of the local KFC's have closed down near me. I have to say, that I've always personally really liked church's chicken better than KFC. Maybe it's due to that fact that it's less greasy, service is faster, or possibly that there's only 1 option for chicken. Crispy is the only way to go! Why would anyone want to eat original? Only been to this location a couple of times, but the one time that I remember coming here recently, noticed that there was a lot of people in here, and the line was out of the door! Which makes this place in my opinion popular, but also delayed us getting dinner. And it didn't help that my dad forgot his wallet at home. Lol, I don't even know how he manages to do that. Best fast food chicken when comparing to all the other nationwide and well known chains. Chicken is always hot, fresh & never dry (which can be a problem I've experienced at other chains). Its "FAST FOOD" not "Immediate Food", so unless you want cold chicken, I'm sure you can wait 5-10 minutes for your order as opposed to going to a restaurant. 2. For people who have said they've been to this churches (or any establishment) and have always enjoyed their there food, service etc. but the ONE TIME they came and had a less then satisfactory experience that they're accustomed to out of the DOZEN of other times they've been here and give them a immediate 1 star, is super irrational. Rate the place on your overall experience, not on your visit that one time. Id love to be the person that visits you on your off day at work and rates your entire performance a 1 star out of the other many times I'm sure you are superb. 3. If you got a wrong order or something was wrong with it, how about you kindly advise them of the discrepancy/problem so that they may rectify it instead of bashing them instantly. The food was purchase as a Christmas gift for a co-worker, who put this on the secret Santa's list. To fulfill wish, I ordered the food from the closet location, which is 24.1 miles in one direction and equally coming back. Once the food arrived, I noticed that my entire order was missing items. I ordered a 5 pd dinner meal with two sides, 3 jalapeno peppers and 3 jalapeno bombers. I was given 4 pieces of chicken, two sides, 2 jalapeno peppers and the bombers were missing in its entirely. I called to speak with a Manager who identified herself as 'Juana', I explained to her how the order was incomplete. She asked for the order number and then said she will speak to her manager about the order. She placed me on hold for 7 minutes, returned and told me to re check the box, because her manager 'Serres' stated he placed it in there. I told her I checked the box, and the bag and these items were missing. She insisted I check again. I told her once again it was not in there, then she asked what did I do with it, because it was given. I informed her that he was never given and I needed to speak with 'Serres', she stated he could not come to the phone and hung up. I am left with no choice but to contact my bank because I was charged for items that I did not receive, and my co-worker's gift request is half fulfilled. I'm giving 1 star ONLY because I can't give 0. This didn't happen recently but is still well worth writing about. Went to their location on Pioneer Blvd. for lunch. They deliberately got my order wrong. It clearly said "no lettuce" & they loaded up my sandwich with it. Yes, I can pick it off, but that's not the point. What if they do that BS to someone with severe food allergies? They also thought that just because I'm Asian means that I don't understand Spanish. They started talking about me, smirking & glaring at me. Rude & condescending for no reason. The only reason I didn't walk out was because I had already paid for my food. Be careful when paying here. They have a combo called the Really Big Deal for $6 which includes your choice of 2pc of chicken or 3 tender strips, 2 sides, a biscuit, a signature jalapeño, and a regular drink with the option to upsize to a large drink for $0.30 more. If you don't pay attention the cashier will charge you full price for a large drink instead of the $0.30 for the upgrade.
