I had them tonight just to make sure, and they compare very favorably with what's available in Santa Fe, NM. So here's the five-star review I promised years ago. I never dreamed that I would give a Darden restaurant five stars, but the proof's in the relleno! Although Chuy's is a Tex-Mex restaurant, the Hatch chile which they employ from Hatch New Mexico, sets Chuy's apart from the hoard of Mexican restaurants in Austin...and now elsewhere in Chuy's-land. read more

Chuy's is consistently good. I notice I've posted multiple pics of the veggie enchilada. That's my go-to here as a vegetarian, and it satisfies every time. The rice and beans used in this dish are suitable for vegetarians, and they also clearly identify which of their sauces have meat products in them. Now and then I mix it up and get the veggie enchiladas with boom boom sauce or something else, but the og version with ranchero sauce is great as is. They're quite good about accommodating larger groups for weekday lunches. We've had their nachos and tres leches as well, both of which were good. read more

We had excellent service from Ryan, I'm pretty sure that was her name. There were three people in our party-- teo got enchiladas and one got tacos. The portions were very generous and two of us brought home a box. Everything was quite tasty and we had our choice of different spice levels and sauces. I recently came to Chuy's with my sister and we had a wonderful experience with both the location and our food. Unfortunately I was not able to note the name of our server, however she was fabulous and was able to help us determine or drinks as we were initially torn between two options. We were seated in a booth (our choice) promptly after arriving and were greeted by our server shortly thereafter. The room was decorated with portraits and it was very entertaining to look around as we waited for our food. The server checked in with us regularly to ensure the food was to our taste and see if we needed anything else, and the only time it was harder to track her down was when we were ready to pay as the crowd seemed to hit right at that time and she was busy at other tables which was no issue. 10/10 I ordered the combo fajitas with chicken and shrimp on corn tortilla (pictured) and while the shrimp was fairly average, the chicken was very good! My sister ordered a beef/shrimp combo and also found the beef to be excellent! We ordered the queso as an appetizer and very much enjoyed it as we waited for our meals. The strawberry mojito was very tasty and is definitely worth trying as it was packed with flavor! I wouldn't say it had a super high alcohol content, however the flavor was great and it's a very enjoyable beverage. 9/10 Overall, the food here is pretty decent and my sister and I both look forward to dining here again! read more

Family friendly Tex-Mex restaurant. Came on a weekday night around 7:30pm and there was about a 30 minute wait. There were plenty of places to sit while we waited and once our table was ready the service and food was spot on. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the chips and salsa were amazing! Our food took about 20 minutes to come out since it was so busy, but we got an extra serving of chips while we waited. Food portions were good and we ended up taking leftovers home. I love this chuys location! If you are visiting or live in austin you NEED TO go here. The servers are friendly. I've always had good takeout experiences too. I almost always order the shrimp tacos, and every once and a while I get a Chuychanga. The shrimp tacos are seriously underrated and I wish they had more shrimp dishes honestly. I love the decor inside too. It's colorful and vibrant and weird. I haven't eaten outdoors but it the patio is nice too. I think this location is bigger than the one on Barton springs. read more

First visit. I know, we've lived here for over 6 years now, and just checked out this restaurant. We chose to visit the Chuy's on 4301 W. William Cannon Drive in South Austin. It is located near Costco. The restaurant has lots to see when you enter - a room decorated with hub caps on the roof, a variety of pictures depicted various people - even what I called a "spanish version of a Picasso" wall. We were seated quickly in a booth and our server immediately asked about drinks. While we were waiting we perused the menu and decided on a bean and cheese burrito and a double chicken enchilada. Well, bring your appetite because both were large servings! The menu actually calls the burrito "As big as yo face", and they don't lie! Matter of fact, we had to ask for a box to bring them home. Both of these came with an amazing Deluxe Tomatillo Sauce blended with sour cream, fresh herbs, cilantro & spices. Both meals were excellent. This Chuy's is likely a go by for all the other ones. We got some old pico de gallo and a bunch of salty fatty chips. The drinks are served in colored plastic glasses. The food is quite frankly inferior to a Chipotle salad or burrito bowl. The tortilla soup was more like a watery caldo with all the ingredients dumped in. It was quite unappetizing. Looking around the dining room we were in we noticed many of the patrons were having a frozen margarit with their lunch. Apparently you can get a cheap frozen margaritas at chuy's. The salads were limp and sad. Our grandaughter had the childs cheese quesadilla and she didn't eat much of it. The chips were the main draw for her. My waitress was very nice if not particularly interesting or presented well. Cheap clothing, overweight. So, apparently chuys has a loyal following of people who are willing to pay way too much for rubbishy tex mex mush and old salad on a plate. Not good. Curb side service is absolutely horrible. I stopped ordering curbside a couple of years ago. Decided to give them another shot. Ordered at 6pm with pick up scheduled for 6:17pm. Responded on the app at 6:17 to give them my parking spot. 15 minutes later, still waiting, I called. I was told my order was up next and it would be right out. 20 minutes later, still waiting. I have a to give props to Emily the general manager for her fast thinking and going through a lot to put a table together for my family and friends to enjoy and to celebrate my birthday, she did a fantastic job. Not happy with the staff or the host who added more stress to the situation instead of trying to de-escalate. They added more stress by saying things that were certainly untrue. Thursday I had lunch with a friend a the bar. Everything was fine until we saw a large 2.5" cockroach skittering along the wall/ceiling at above the bar the crawl down the wall and go behind a sign (right side of the bar). The check had already come and the bartender walked by but we weren't able to get her attention. We only finished 1/2 our meal. I did tell the male bartender but he seemed unaffected by the news. As we left, I shared the information with the hostess who said she would tell the manager. No apology, no shock by any staff I spoke with. The bar is open next tot he kitchen. A bit too close for my comfort. The food was fine and our female bartender was friendly and kind but the cockroach ruined the whole experience for both my friend and I. Classic Austin restaurant that we've been going to for a long time. You got to start out with the ponchos a perfect mix of fajita beef guacamole and nachos. We also like the creamy jalapeno dip for the nachos. On Saturday morning tortilla soup will give you a nice warm up and has that classic Mexican taste. Today my partner brought home Chuy's "CHICKA-CHICKA BOOM-BOOM" for my lunch. Wowie...the salt content in their food is off the charts. I could not finish it. Ended up tossing it away. I had not eaten at a Chuy's in years because the last time I was in their William Cannon restaurant, I found a piece of steel sponge in my beans. It was about the size of a dime. Yes..the kind they use for scouring pans. Lucky for me I did not swallow it. I can only imagine the damage is would have done to my esophagus or any part of my digestive system. I reported it to the manager who was very apologetic. They told me to ask for them the next time and would take care of us. It should have never happened. This kind of lack of quality control could have made my day really bad and for my family. I am aware that Chuy's has been operating in Austin since 1982 feeding many satisfied customers. There was a time I really enjoyed going there. But no more. I know if they had their food tested for the salt content, it might help change the way they salt the food. I doubt this review will even make a difference. But the meal I got today brought back the memories of that incident years ago. Many of their customers are young people that can tolerant this amount of salt, but I cannot on my own free will damage to my arteries voluntary. Chuy's won me over during this Pandemic. I use to vastly prefer Trudy's in the Tex Mex food wars. Trudy's was more unique, local, and just had better food, but it seems like for every second that Trudy's was declining (and oh boy were they declining) Chuy's was getting better, and better. Also, and this is where the pandemic comes in, Chuy's is the ONLY place who food is just as good, if not BETTER, when ordered To-Go. Honestly they deserve some kind of award for having mastered the art of to go food, because I know it's tricky, most places just can't hack it, but Chuy's is *chefs kiss*. I get the Chicken Flautas every time, and every time they are perfect. The Chicka-Chica Boom-Boom is also superb. The wait is usually not too bad either, which is rare. They will be busy, and their will be a wait, but you usually get seated pretty fast, and as long as the weather is nice they have a good patio waiting area. I'm not going to dock them for this, but I will say, DON'T order the Fajitas. When they are good, they are really good, but the meat is of really inconsistent quality, and sometimes they are weirdly chewy... Also they could up their margarita game.
