Oh Chuy's how you have changed! My favourite mesquite fish taco is twice as much money and much less taco. $7.00 al carte taco!! My favourite chicken wings with the horseradish dressing is no longer there. They taste just like the same buffalo sauce every one else uses. The wings were under done and they did not look like happy chickens as the bones were shredding. The salsa bar has no chips as I assume they cost money too. My favourite red sauce that they used to have in the squeeze bottle at the salsa bar is no longer there. We went here for lunch today. I hadn't eaten here in years. The whole experience exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly and attentive. They have been expanding and remodeling, including a new bar display. The food was delicious. The menu seems mostly the same, but I could tell the quality is greatly improved. I'll start by saying I've been going to this Chuy's for 30+ years now - and have lived outside the area for ~20 years, but still return to SoCal - and to this Chuy's - on at least a fairly consistent annual basis for the tasty Tri-tip sandwich (w/ cheese!) the fabulous fries & perhaps the world's most sweet smooth & creamy Root Beer "on tap" - without question these items are some of the best I've had (even considering national and world-travel)! Throughout the years have also always previously gone to Chuy's, in equal part, for the "Chuy's BBQ sauce", and the unusually scrumptious free chips (with a self-added sprinkle of spice, to personal taste) & salsa. Love the lively ambiance, here, as well (even in spite of not being a sports fan) and historically would have leaned toward giving a full 5 stars. However, on my most recent visit (last week), I was disappointed to find that the chips & salsa are no longer free, can no-longer be self-spiced (this is at least somewhat understandable given Covid conditions) and the BBQ sauce is now seemingly a brand you can purchase in grocery stores, instead of their own??... not sure why these changes. Will still continue to visit on occasion when I visit the area, but this and the inconsistency of quality of service (the last few times, I've been, I've experienced both really friendly service and not so friendly...) are the reasons I don't give it a full five stars at this time... Nevertheless, it continues to be a Simi Valley treasure. read more

We have eaten at Chuy's for years and always enjoyed the food and drinks as well as the management and staff folks. Lately, however, things have changed. The prices have increased substantially, it is terribly noisy, and the food is not the same, nor are the staff. We were there last evening with our grandchildren. One grandson loved their chicken strips in the past. This time he didn't eat them because they were so disappointing. They were thin slices of chicken, overcooked and dry. The wings that we have always loved were flavorless and very disappointing. With the combination of cost, noise, and poor food quality, I no longer will eat there or recommend them to others. I think we are not the only ones who feel this way, as the place was pretty dead for dinner time. I hope to hear soon that the "old Chuy's" is back, and then I might try them again. read more

I haven't been to a Chuy's in I'm gonna say 20 years so really, this was like a first experience for me. The last time I was here, I remembered the chaotic wall art, and being a little frightened that my parents would bring me to someplace that I assumed was a dive bar. Going back on a random Monday with my friend for lunch and a margarita. I will say I am so pleasantly surprised and happy I returned. Let's start with a margarita! Is this margarita the best one I've ever had? Absolutely not. But is it delicious? Very much so. My friend and I decided to share the tri-tip and substituted french fries for the rice and ended up getting refried beans instead of pinto beans. Our waiter was the coolest human being and didn't mind all of our insane substitutions. These fries are absolutely top-notch, and the meat was so tender and delicious. I enjoyed this meal more than I thought I would. When we checked in on Yelp, we ended up getting a free soda, which was a really nice touch. Chuys in Simi Valley went above and beyond when we took my 91 yo father to eat. Dad favorite is taquitos and there were none on the menu. We discussed going to Yolanda's, down the road. Dad said that was fine. On the way to our parked car I heard someone and the young lady from the counter was running and calling after us. Wait! We can make your dad taquitos if you would like to come back. We happily turned around and the staff happily had us sit down and took our order from the table! Usually you order at the counter and sit down while the server brings your food. The experience with Chuy's and their eagerness to bring us back to their establishment and prepare my dad his favorite food has had me smiling since. Until tonight, I have never had a bad meal from Chuy's Mesquite Broiler either at the restaurant or delivered. Their tri-tip, chicken, and fish have always been excellently prepared. Fries are always perfectly crisp without being dry. As I said, until tonight. Tonight I ordered the fish & chips and what I received was a slab of greasy, limp-breaded gray-colored fish laid on top of fries that were soggier than al dente noodles. It was disgusting to look at, as well as uneatable. After a few bites, I tossed the meal in the trash and sadly I will not be ordering from them again in the future. read more

The staff is amazing, super friendly and always helpful. The food is great, and they have good happy hour specials! The place is clean, and always fun especially since they always have awesome local bands playing all weekend, every weekend. I WOULD give them 5 stars but I made it 4 because they recently added more lighting to the patio and it is way too bright, they need soft white bulbs up there instead of bright white. It gets super hot on the dance floor because they have the heaters on when it's not that cold out. My suggestion would be to leave on the big flame heaters in the back and turn off the heaters near the band. The band suffers with all that heat and the people dancing get super sweaty and uncomfortable. Also unlock or fix the side door, please! It's hard squeezing by the counter line and around all the people sitting at tables inside just to get to the bathroom from the patio. Other than that, my friends and I love this place and it's a bonus that I ALWAYS FEEL SAFE here when I'm out with my friends!!! The staff is very diligent about not over-serving people and it creates a safer environment, which I personally appreciate. One more thing... their chicken is the bomb. The place has been completely re-done and in the best kind of way. We were greeted by the owner, Brendan. Who is such a nice freaking guy!! We are on the deck, which he made sure to mention was more geared for people with kids (non smoking..we had our kids with us) a bit more room and away from the rad bands that play on here on Friday's/Saturday's!!!! They have anything you could possibly want to sip on or pound! Great place, all around. And did I mention CLEAN!!! Absolutely horrible, will never eat anything ever here again. I live in town, and really want to like Chuy's. I've ordered the salmon tacos, --the salmon had worms. Yes worms, no not fat or bones or connective tissue. I let that pass because they can't control that. However, last night was the last straw.. ordered tri-tip /chicken combo plate. The chicken leg and thigh piece were old and dry. The thigh portion was small and just bones. I sent it back. $20 should get me at least half a breast and a leg. I got a slightly larger thigh as replacement. Lame. I just sighed and accepted it. The chicken was barely lukewarm and flavorless. Whatever, its a sports bar. Then, I tried the tri-tip. I couldn't believe it. It was literally less then room temperature, rubbery and nearly raw. Important: I never specified rare/medium/ or well because tri tip is usually medium unless you request otherwise. And I like medium rare, but when it's at least warm. It was , I'm not kidding, like 70° meat. I sent THAT back. The cook put it on the flat iron for maybe 30 seconds. Poor guy, he WAS trying. It was absolutely devoid of any seasoning. I rarely add salt or pepper to a steak. I was desperate, and you guessed it.... No salt or pepper shakers at any of the tables. My once-lukewarm steak was dying again. Having to ask for basic seasoning, I finally just ate the meat. It also tasted old. The girl asked me if everything was ok. I was nice, but honest and said it was awful. She aplogized, did her best, but I still got billed full pop!. That should never happen. Like I said, I want to like the food, because I like the people here, but after multiple fails, I give up. Vallarta is the next parking lot. Just go there. DO. NOT. EAT. HERE. read more
