Never disappoints!!! The legendary Simi establishment is one of our family favorites. For Birthdays and celebrations we tend to migrate here. We love the drinks ( you must get a strawberry margarita they still have the cool blended ones) killer chips n salsa, the chilled salad plates ( makes all the difference in the world) and just delicious food! Both my baby (10 month old) and I got sick after eating here. My poor daughter got diarrhea for 2 days and I kept throwing up the next day. I had the shrimp ranchero with meatball soup. I knew something was off with the food, I asked the waiter he said it's normally like that. A day later my husband experienced the symptoms too, we both couldn't stop throwing up. We ended in the ER from food poisoning. I don't think ingredients are fresh here and sanitation is not followed to code. read more

Then, my shrimp with garlic sauce plate #64 on the menu was cold ... my ice tea had hardly any tea in it... was nothing but ice water ... we told the waitress but she did nothing to remedy the problems. I stopped in here for a solo Mexican food lunch on a Thursday. I had no prior knowledge of the place, but had an hour to kill in Simi Valley, which was 98 degrees that day. It stands alone with a large parking area in a strip mall. This place was a welcome respite from the heat. Immediately, you enter a darkened restaurant. That alone cooled me off. I was shown to a roomy booth and greeted by a friendly server. I had iced tea along with chips and salsa in no time. The salsa was fresh - just enough heat without going overboard. I ordered a cheese enchilada plate with refried beans and rice. All was delicious. The enchilada sauce here is baked in - the enchiladas are not "swimming", which I liked. Great flavors, right amount of cheese, and excellent refried beans. Pricing was reasonable, service was excellent, and the restrooms were nice and clean, too. Located on Tapo Canyon and Cochran on the 118 Freeway exit heading east, is a food haven for all in Simi Valley. I love their wet burrito steak with cheese on top and salsa on the side, too. Their tacos of Al Pastor is like food of the gods cause they'll make you scream for more. They also serve a little more formal dishes like their Carne Asada which is a favorite in this part of town, soft, easy to cut and chew and average in price. Parking is abundant and if you wanted to eat outside of the restaurant, they have heaters and fans, whatever time of the year, you might want to enjoy Mexican. Had some dinner here the other night with the family! It was 4 of us and they told us the wait time would be at least 25-30 minutes, but it took maybe 15 minutes to be seated on a Friday night. We ordered some margaritas, I got the raspberry margarita, pretty good! I also ordered the chicken mole enchiladas, they were really good and I got an Albondigas soup with it! Pretty tasty! I am a senior and live less than five minutes from your place. My delivery today was so extremely disappointing. I only order take out once or twice a month. I found Don Cuco Mexican Restaurant by accident, while dining at another location in the Simi Valley vicinity. Came here for dinner a few days later, on a Friday night and got a table at short notice. One striking feature as you enter the establishment is that the lighting is red (yes, most of the light bulbs are red). So everything gets a red hue and it can take sometime to get adjusted (unless you still go to the disco), so that you can observe, read the menu and order. First came the warm chips with salsa. Both of these were good. Other party members had margaritas and liked them. For food, there were 3 dishes, all of which were dinner combos (rice and beans). The fried burrito with chicken, two chicken tamales and two lobster enchaladas. The first two were just okay, nothing to write home about. I am always apprehensive about lobster menu items and this item confirmed that uneasiness. The server said there would be chunks of lobster. Instead there were un flavorful shreds of meat with a seafood taste. I was disappointed. The black beans were cooked al dente and were tasty. This is my second visit to Don Cuco in Simi Valley. The first time was during the pandemic when they had outdoor seating. The second time was this past weekend. Both times were great experiences. Great food, large plates and portions, and the most important...wonderful time with the family. Having to experience two different location of Don Cucos I would like to start by saying that each of the locations have been very consistent with food and interior atmosphere. I am not 100% fan of the low light/red setting as it is pretty dark and difficult for the elders to view the extensive menu. But while you're inside you kinda get used to it. One thing that I would like to shoutout is their bean and rice. Going back to the basics the beans and rice here alone are delicious. When I ordered A burrito with only chicken and no beans but black beans on the outside and it originally came with three meats and beans and I got maybe some chicken inside along with black beans and black beans outside .... This is a big mistake . Such a simple order how can you get it wrong not to mention never came back to Che k on us even our neighbors was asking did she go on lunch did she leave where is she . So yes leave it at that note. Still not the best service that o was hoping for to support our own people here in simi. The food is still just ok but I would rather go to sharks which is not a restaurant and get my food they are always great service clean and in tip top shape for orders with no mistakes ever. This review is about the lack of service and blatant disrespect, We live 5 minutes away and decided to ride our bikes down to Don Cucos to sit outside since we have had a terrible experience inside and avoid eating inside in the main dining area- we take out or eat in the patio. We were just there 10 minutes ago, a young guy sat us outside, gave us two menus and never came back. Didn't ask us if we wanted drinks so we figured he was getting water and returning to get our drink order but he never came back. We sat there for 15 minutes and decided to leave. Was tempted to ask for the manager this time but honestly, just like the previous time- I just wanted to avoid any issues. The first time we had terrible service, not the first time eating here because like I mentioned we live in Simi 5 minutes away and have ate here many times but the last time inside I was made to feel very uncomfortable by the waiter because I decided to order a soup and a salad. My husband ordered a plate but the waiter was upset that I ordered a salad and soup and I asked him in Spanish "are you upset with me? Did I do something wrong? Are you upset because I orders a soup and salad? I am not that hungry right now. That is exactly what I told him. Humiliating. I am a petite person and I don't necessary always want to get a huge dish for myself. If you offer appetizers and soups and salads you shouldn't be made to feel like you are expected to get a combination dish. read more

Great spot! We had a reservation for 8 on a busy December Saturday evening and were seated right away. The service was fantastic, fast, and friendly. Warm chips and tasty salsa came right away, followed soon by drinks. I had a house margarita and it was perfect. Not too sweet, not too sour, and a generous pour. I ordered the Mexican pizza and my wife had the mixed fajitas. Both dishes came hot and tasted great. The rest of the group was also happy with their meals. The atmosphere is fun and lively. I saw a few other reviews complaining about the red lights for some reason, but I personally really liked the lighting and ambiance. Special shout out to our server and his team of Bussers.
