The Dugout was a swing and a miss today. The only good thing about it, really, was the service. The server who took care of us was attentive, and checked in the right amount of times. The food and comfort, not so much. Dear Hubby and I had a late breakfast, so we weren't really that hungry. We decided to order a pastrami sandwich to share, which came with one side (we chose tater tots). DH also ordered a cup of chili as an extra side. BIG mistake. At $7.25 for cup of inedible chili, that was a bad choice. It was overly salty, and extremely greasy. They charged 50 cents for a tiny sprinkling of onions on top. Really? That was an extra insult, considering that we skipped the cheese on the sandwich, and we didn't get a deduction for leaving that out. Speaking of the sandwich - it was tasty and well-made, but was very skimpy on actual pastrami filling. Not a good value. The bill was $40 for a shared sandwich, one small draft beer, a generous glass of pineapple juice, and the terrible side of chili. Since eating out is getting so expensive, I always hope (and expect!) that dining establishments would put their best foot forward so that guests will like what they're serving and want to return. Another note - the chair that I was about to sit down on was so wobbly and in bad repair that I could have suffered a fall. I mentioned it to one of the servers. She thanked me, but made no effort to remove it from the floor. That's a potentially dangerous situation which went untended. I didn't see a manager on the floor or I would have called it to their attention. I dragged over a chair in better condition from another table myself. It's a sports bar. It's reasonably clean. The kitchen did them no favors today. We'll be looking for another place to go when the 49'ers aren't on national TV during this NFL season. read more

Saturday night, my wife has a burger craving. We decided on the Dugout. Large parking lot so parking is a breeze. Hostess greeted us and we opted for a booth. They have an extensive draft beer selection, a full bar and specialty cocktails. Hendrick's gin and tonic for my wife, I had the Liquid Candy draught beer for me. My wife had the flaming hot burger, beef patty with jalapeño jack cheese, fresh grilled jalapeños and a chipotle aioli. French fries served on the side. The burger had great fresh flavor and it was spicy. The fries were crunchy outside with a soft interior. I had the breaded wings, they also offer smoked wings. I had the reaper sauce for the wings. The wings were cooking perfectly, the meat was tender and juicy. The sauce was a perfect amount. The reaper sauce is really really hot. My lips were tingly and my nose was running but it's so worth it. Great heat and great flavor. I had a Cesar salad on the side. The lettuce was cut perfectly, no large chunks, Service was over the top good. I ordered too many wings and needed a to go box. When our server brought out the box she also brought out lids for the blue cheese dressing. I've never had anyone do that before. It was the attention to detail from the kitchen staff and the wait staff and the great food, that made a great meal. We definitely need to visit again, soon. read more

Recently I attended an organized happy hour here. I didn't eat because I read all health dept reviews before going to all restaurants. But I got the biggest beer they had! It arrived in an ice cold mug and filled to the rim. Erica was our server and she was on it! We were a group of ten. All orders arrived as ordered within seconds of each other with a smile! Erica returned several times to inquire for additional needs of the group. I hope their health dept report gets better 'cause I really wanted to order a burger! Food - very good, Beer - standard stuff and ok but could use a few more porter & stout choices and fewer IPA's, although that's true industry wide, Service - ***outstanding***. The health and safety violations behind the bar are cause for concern. A bartender who fills or supplements a drink with ice by using bare hands and then shoving straws into drinks with a finger on top of the straw - extraordinarily unhealthy and health board violations pretty much everywhere. This place is an utter embarrassment to the restaurant industry, and it starts at the top. If you own a restaurant, you shouldn't be drinking in the bar with your buddies in the middle of a workday. It sets a bad precedent for your employees. The employees did not care about anything going on during the entire time we were there, but what made it so much better, not, was the fact that our food was horrible undercooked had to be sent back twice And we left hungry having to go to another place. This is a for sure sign of this place is on its way out. It will not be in business much longer. Finally stopped by for Lunch. Quiet noon crowd. Rose Bowl games on the multiple screens. Seated & served promptly! (Nice) Very dark ambience. Luckily sunlight from the window helped me see the menu. Started with a House Marg. Ehh. Not my favorite but not their fault. Ordered the Lunch Burger & fries! Number one!! Fresh lettuce, tomato & pickles on a squishy buttery bun! We ordered a variety of appetizers and sandwiches for a small get together. EVERYTHING was tasty, well packed and literally pulled out and set it on some nice serving plates. The food menu is a bit limited but very tasty and the server we had was great and very patient as we were getting our drink on and kept asking for more time before we ordered food. The place is a little slow and it is weird that a sports bar closes at 9 pm on a Saturday which forced us to go find some other places to spend money once we were told it was 9pm and we had to go. I feel there are limited places to drink and socialize in Simi and a handful of the places that are there close before 10pm. The food was horrible. I was sooo excited to come here, considering we've driven past it so often. The inside was really nice, but I just wish the food matched it. I was so disappointed in my food. I took one bite of my burger, and that was it. My son only took two bites of his macaroni and complained that it didn't taste good and when I took a bite, I didn't even argue with him because I understood. My husband did not like the buffalo sandwich, and it tasted not fresh whatsoever. He only ate half.It was a complete waste of 80$ and we most definitely will not be back sadly. I've been twice to the Dugout and both times I found the food to be excellent. It is bar food but it's GREAT bar food. The hot pastrami sandwich was perfect and the smoked buffalo wings are among the best I've had. The wings are meaty, smoky and juicy with just the right amount of kick! Had a solid experience here while I visited my Dad in Simi. We came and grabbed lunch on a weekday afternoon. Grabbed a spot at one of the bar tables and was quickly greeted by our server. I grabbed an 805 on tap that came out pretty cold and delicious. Chose the Cesar Salad and added chicken and made it into a wrap, was really good. I ordered chicken tortilla soup and a wedge salad. The place was quiet. The service was relatively fast. The price was reasonable. The chicken tortilla soup was below my expectations. It had a Smokey smell. The seasoning was not right to my taste buds. The pieces of chicken in the soup was not tasing the way it should be. The wedge salad was great. It was relatively big with lot of dressing on it. Love to have some cherry tomatoes and red onion on it to make it delicious and colorful. I did not feel to order any dessert. We were let out of work early a couple of days ago since it was the day before a holiday so per usual, the crew needed some brews. We normally hit up the only bar in Moorpark, but they were surprisingly closed. They've been open all previous years. This was option b. I was the first one to get there because I'm always the first to show up. I hate waiting for people so I put my order in as soon as someone came over. It wasn't too busy since it was shortly after 2pm on a Wednesday. LOL. I got an order of the chicken tenders and a dozen bbq wings because it seemed safe. Both were decent. Nothing special. For the most part, we focused on drinks. Beer, to be specific. Their large serving by the way comes in a giant pint. Like Oktoberfest size. Their happy hour starts at 3 which worked out for us. It's been a few weeks since I stopped here. The Dugout is a nicely kept sports bar, by no means a dive bar. There are the typical television sets, drinks, and sports bar menu items you would expect. The Flamin' Angus Burger (http://bit.ly/2Oa4BgW) turned out nicely. The meat was cooked just the way I requested (medium) and while not all that juicy it was far from dry. Good tasting. This burger had a little bit of heat to it from the pepper jack and grilled jalapeños but not enough to cause a rush to get a cooling drink. The buns couldn't hold the meat and fixings together so eating it by hand became impossible - welcome fork and knife. Generally a good burger. (4/5) There were seven choices of sides or for an upcharge of $2 five different premium sides. I went with the premium Onion Rings which were all different sizes because clearly they were from a freshly cut onion (good). The first few rings were the best but they were a bit too greasy and the taste enjoyment diminished with each subsequent ring. Good, but next time I would try something else. (3/5) Service on a late Sunday afternoon was very prompt when I first walked in and a drink order was taken. I ended up with a soda as there were no non-alcoholic beers available. Then my table was apparently overlooked for a while before I was finally able to make my food order perhaps 10-15 minutes later. Considering I have eaten here multiple times and this is a genuine review that does not go against yelps policy, hopefully they don't delete it! I'm back to let my community know to NOT eat here! Whenever I would eat here, I would get super bad stomach aches after. Just look at the pictures of the food on here. It looks disgusting. Ever since they moved from moorpark they were doomed. This restaurant would rather keep servers who harass the good people of simi valley then to admit to the issue. Not only that, they're putting the racist employees in danger by not firing them when they clearly went against policy WITH PHOTO/VIDEO PROOF! So many people are upset what happened. Your average sports bar. I came in during lunch and got the lunch patty melt with cole slaw. Not that I ever expect anything remotely other than this from a typical mediocre American establishment, but the patty melt, although DELICIOUS, was literally dripping with grease. It almost seemed like they deep fried it. The cole slaw was basically swimming in its mayo sauce, and while the flavor was decent, the sauce/slaw ratio was ridiculous. Way too much sauce, which ruined the usually crunchy/sweet favorite. Server was attentive and quick, beer was cold, etc. If you're used to typical American bar food, you'll probably like it. And if I'm ever feeling like a tasty treat that will clog my arteries, I'll come back! read more

Went there last night for dinner and beers. I love that they have a good variety of draft beers on tap. I had the made west hazy IPA which is a favorite of mine. I ordered the Philly cheese steak with no peppers and a side of tater tots. The cheesesteak was delicious and the tots nice and crispy. Several tv screens to watch sports while you eat. I know things are tough for restaurants right now and I am willing to give them a COVID pass, but you're looking for a fun sports bar with grubby food and yummy drinks avoid this place. My burger was somehow dry and greasy at the same time and my margarita was as too sour to drink. My husband had the Philly cheesesteak, which was decent, but the onion rings that came with it looked and tasted like they were originally cooked days ago. His drink was watery. We asked if we could watch a baseball game but no attempt was made to put one on one the 25+ TVs. The whole situation reminded me of an episode of Bar Rescue.
