This place looked good on Yelp, so off I went. And, WOW, not what I expected! It is tucked behind a nondescript office building, not visible from the road, and when I got up to the parking lot, all I saw was a - well, a junkyard! Yes, that does explain the name, but still . . . That was just the beginning of my odyssey to a great lunch. The outside has a large patio, and it is decorated as eclectically as the rest of the entryway and dining areas. In fact, you could spend all day looking at every item in this place! Amazing dedication to a theme that actually works, and makes you feel relaxed and at home, at least for me (clutter confession in that statement . . . ). There are dining rooms and a bar area for further relaxation! The welcome was quick and warm, and the service was great. The menu itself is just as odd, almost like a child drew it with crayons, so I took a while to make sure I didn't miss anything, even though I pre-planned my attack on Yelp and their website. I was still overwhelmed in person! Kailey was a great server, friendly and efficient. I ordered the grilled three cheese sandwich (with Jack, pepper jack, and cheddar on sourdough, grilled) served with fries or chips - I chose the house-made chips, and added a side salad. The salad arrived first, and I had almost finished it when the sammy arrived, hot and melty. It was on a bed of chips, the amount of which shocked me! The whole plate was covered with them. I even took a large box of them back to the hotel for a later snack; they were too good to just leave abandoned. The sandwich was great, just the comfort food I needed that afternoon. We had been here before, several years ago so decided it was time to go back. What an eclectic place! They've got chazeri (crap) everywhere! My wife ordered a burger and I ordered the cabbage rolls. My wife enjoyed her burger, but the cabbage rolls left a lot to be desired. There was meat infused with barely cooked rice, covered with spaghetti sauce. It wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order it again. The menu was def a bit overwhelming I will say, but the food was good. My BLT did need more bacon it only had about 3 pieces. So I would suggest something else. Another great meal at our favorite spot in SV. We actually stayed locally on our way up from San Diego on our way up to SLO so we could eat at JY cafe. Delicious sandwiches and best onion rings. Heard about this spot from a few people so had to try it out. Didn't quite know what to expect. I loved all the funny sayings and quotes. When we walked in, I noticed the food looked good. However, we came in to watch the game so we sat at the bar and read the menu. The menu is really overwhelming with so many options. I ended up getting the chili with two flour tortillas but you add to it like cheese, onions, etc. my fiancée got the chicken burger and I took a small bite, pretty good. The sweet potatoes fries nice and crispy. The bartender said all the pizzas are good which I believe her cause I saw a few people order them and they looked good! I also noticed calamari being ordered at a few tables so I'll def order those next time! As fun as it can be, the bar area can get a little rowdy. Wow, the Junkyard is amazing. There are so many options to choose from. The menu is so large. We had a tuna fish sandwich with fries and I had the chicken sandwich with fries. Everything was amazing. I'm a big fan of fish and chips and tend to try them everywhere we go. If I had to rate theirs on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it about an 8, which is pretty high for me. First Visit - Definitely Coming Back This was my first time at Junkyard in Simi Valley, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the fish & chips, stinking fries, chicken Parmesan, and the Godfather sandwich, paired with a Cactus Cooler and a MadeWest Hazy IPA. Everything was excellent--from the crispy, flavorful fries to the perfectly cooked chicken Parmesan and hearty sandwich. You can tell they take pride in the quality and consistency of their food. What really stood out was the service. Anastasia was outstanding--she gave great recommendations, explained the local favorites, and made sure we had everything we needed. True 5-star service from start to finish. It's not easy to find a place that delivers both great food and great service, but Junkyard absolutely does. I was underwhelmed. Aside from the outrageous and extravagant decor, what's so great about Junkyard Cafe? I had the burger whimsically called the Crash 'n' Burn, where the menu advises that the heat is so extreme that one should sample it before ordering the meal. About that thin spoonful of chili topping double burger: Meh. And the burgers had that pre-formed flat, circular aspect that was very, very ordinary. The double costs $17 and, to my mind, was fantastically overpriced. The accompanying fries were fine. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the cup of coffee. I'll give the place a second try with one of the other options, but if that doesn't impress, well, there are other places in Simi that I already patronize. read more

Buyer beware what a disappointing birthday breakfast experience I had I have been to this restaurant many times in the past it's been a little while since my last visit but thought I would treat myself. My good friend came out to take me out for my birthday I ordered steak and eggs like I have done many times in the past what a disappointment what they so-called a steak was a slab of fat that was not even edible. Really disappointing the eggs were runny the potatoes were cold and what was a so-called ribeye steak was about as thick as a MsDonalds hamburger was a slab of grilled fat with about two bites of meat for $27.00 no I didn't send it back I didn't want to make a fuss because it was my birthday and I really didn't want to get upset over breakfast but the more I thought about how awful it was the more I thought people should know how bad the food has gotten here and for that much money that's terrible. This review is based on a to go order. I called and ordered a scrap heap, eggs cooked sunny side up with hash browns and I asked for a side of salsa. I was told 15 minutes and my order would be ready. I arrived about 3 minutes early. I was greeted immediately and the hostess went to the kitchen she and came back with my order. I paid and when I arrived at my destination, I opened the bag. There was napkins and plastic ware in the bag. I opened my container to find a large flour tortilla with hash browns, topped with cheese, and 2 perfectly cooked over easy eggs. 2 sausage links and 2 strips of bacon. They also included 2 containers of house made salsa. I received exactly what I ordered. The cheesy hash browns with the broken egg yolks and for a fantastic bite. The saltiness of the bacon and the slightly sweet sausage bites really complemented the dish. The salsa added a nice touch of heat. read more

Clearly the locals know this spot. I heard it's quite popular and well know, but also had some doubts on quality and service from friends whom have visited numerous times. This was my second time eating here, but first time for breakfast on a Saturday. Overall, this is a welcoming and hospitality place in Ventura County. There is plenty of parking and seating for any size groups. I was here for a private Toastmasters meeting and we were serviced very well with the waitresses. They provided menus for breakfast and lunch and even minimized interruptions during our Toastmaster club meeting. The WiFi works well if you need to host an online and in-person meeting. The food and drinks are made fresh and come in large portions. I highly recommend this place for large groups or a casual brunch or lunch with the family or friends. read more
