The original Chuy's started in Austin, and after all these years, the flavors are still exactly how I remember them. I had planned to eat at H Mart but arrived too late after checking into my hotel. A summer thunderstorm rolled through, and by the time I pulled into Chuy's, the skies cleared. It was the perfect ending to a long day. The complimentary chips, fresh salsa, and famous creamy jalapeño dip are reason enough to stop by. That dip is every bit as addictive today as it was decades ago. I ordered the Comida Deluxe--a massive plate with cheese enchiladas, crispy chicken flautas, a crispy beef taco, fresh guacamole, queso-covered tostadas, rice, and refried beans. The portions were enormous, the quality was excellent, and at around $16-18, it's one of the best values around. I knew I'd be taking leftovers home, and they were just as good the next day. I also grabbed a slice of tres leches cake to go. It was huge and worth every penny. It somehow tasted even better after sitting overnight as the three milks soaked deeper into the cake. Absolutely delicious. Our server was warm, attentive, and made packing up leftovers effortless by bringing extra creamy jalapeño dip, a sturdy bag for the chips, and plenty of to-go containers. Service like that makes a difference. You can pay traditionally with your server or by scanning a QR code. I tried the QR option but found it a little cumbersome, so I paid the old-fashioned way with my credit card. Chuy's has stayed true to what made it famous. The recipes are consistent, the portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the food is packed with nostalgia. I ordered the chili relleno enchilada plate, the granddaughter ordered the kids chicken taco, chicken and cheese nothing else, and my wife ordered the green chili enchilada plate. Service was quick, and the plates and food were hot. It was a busy family Friday night. So, everything was fine. I have lived in NC for 15 years now, and my Texas taste buds for hot foods are cooling way down. I use to think Chuy's was mild, but now everything is warm spice wise. Grabbed dinner from here recently and thought it was OK. I ordered beef tacos with refried beans and Mexican rice on the side and everything tasted pretty decent but didn't blow me away. I appreciated that they included chips and a variety of different sauces on the side, and the chips were flavorful! I will say that the paper bag they were in looked soaked with grease, but they didn't taste super greasy so I'm not sure what to make of that. The accompanying salsa was OK. I do think there are better Mexican restaurants in the area, but Chuy's really wasn't bad. We got our food to-go so I don't have any input on the service except that they brought my food to my car quickly, which was nice! I am used to the Chuy's in TX and FL so with that being my measuring stick, I would say the food is spot on with other locations. I had my favorite, the boom boom chicken enchiladas and they came out on a hot plate and very satisfying like always. I always sit at the bar and ordered the New Mexican martini for drink, just like always. They brought it in the shaker just like it am used to, so I can pour it and enjoy it at my own pace. During COVID-19, Chuys offers a limited menu available online. Their online ordering system is easy to use and allows you to customize your order (without needing to place requests in a comment box). I ordered curbside pick-up. When I arrived, I parked in a curbside pick up space and texted them the space number. It was not fast, however about 5-10 minutes later a friendly employee brought out my order. I should have checked it before leaving. Unfortunately I did not and realized that some items were missing when I got home. I ordered: Queso ($8.68) Mexi-Cobb Salad ($12.18): no cheese with the cilantro vinaigrette Steak Burrito ($14.41) with Queso as the sauce. We ordered the Queso on the side. Chips I received: No Queso Mexi-Cobb Salad: no cheese with creamy jalapeño vinaigrette. We also received a container of another vinaigrette, but it did not taste like cilantro or jalapeño Steak Burrito with no sauce and no Queso on the side. A huge bag of chips - seriously we have so many chips plus they are thin, crispy, and not too greasy I recommend not ordering sauces on the side since you may not receive them. Also taste the dressing before adding it to your salad since it may be the wrong one. We did enjoy the flavor and spiciness of the food. Plus when I called and talked to Nate the manager he quickly refunded for the missing Queso. If we order again, I would need to check the order before driving home. read more
