Went to Chuy's in Woodbridge tonight with my husband. Not a fan of Tex-Mex but I figured that I could find something that I would like, such as a salad. I ordered a Large house salad w/fajita chicken w/cheese. He ordered the steak burrito asked if it had sour cream, guacamole and sauce. Not enough sauce. When bill came we were charged extra for the cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Would have been one thing if advised when ordering, but it wasn't --- DIFFENTLY NOT A FAVORITE read more

Love what they did with the interior (I worked there when it was a Chili's!). Chips and salsa are to die for, ESPECIALLY the creamy jalapeno. We ordered the Steak Burrito and a plate with a Chile Relleno and a Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom enchilada. Beginning with the salsa for the chips (which were very good) and through the rest of the meal, the food was almost inedible due to the overwhelming amount of salt and heat. I understand that restaurants make their money from drinks but this was ridiculous. The first bite my husband took of the steak burrito was so spicy that he couldn't eat another bite. He spent the next ten minutes sweating, eyes watering, chewing ice cubes. Rather than send it back we switched plates. The waitress suggested we add sour cream (for which we were charged extra) and I ate what I could covered in sour cream. The chile relleno and chicken were at least edible if still overly salty. Until this meal, we've driven out of our way to come to Chuys for TexMex. But after this experience, about the only thing we'd come back for is the tortilla chips, without the salsa. read more

I love Chuys! The Tex Mex enchiladas are my favorite. They have a cool happy hour with the "nacho car." The drink specials aren't anything to write home about, but they make a good margarita. Although my time in Northern Virginia is coming to an end, I am glad that I have Chuy's to comfort me in my final months of living here. After visiting the Richmond location every time possible, I was ecstatic to hear Chuy's had opened near my current home. My fiancé and I went on a Saturday around 1 PM and this location was super busy, I imagine everyone is eager to try out this new spot. We were seated quickly and brought chips and salsa. The chips were hot, thin, crispy, and salty aka the perfect tortilla chips. The salsa was also fresh and on point, although a bit too spicy for my taste. Taste often depends on the batches because they make the salsa fresh, each batch of salsa I've ever eaten at Chuy's has been unique. I ordered the Big As Yo Face Pulled Chicken Burrito. It was delicious. It was served piping hot and the chicken inside was delicious, you could tell it was certainly good quality chicken. The rice was also good. I gave this particular Chuy's four stars because the service is not quite there yet, other servers had to refill our drinks and it took forever to get refills. At times, I saw our server looking at us and then he would go away, almost as if he was scared or hiding. I also do not like the layout of this Chuy's, the building is too small for a Chuy's and it was very crowded inside. read more

Our little party of 3 opted for the bar today and sat at a high top table with a good view of the TV. We asked the bartender (Danny) if she'd mind changing the channel to feature the noon Caps hockey game and she was happy to do it for us. Our server (El*lis, I think her name tag said) was really good, attentive when we needed her and scarce when we didn't. That's a rare but highly desirable trait anymore in the restaurant industry. She had answers for our questions without having to go retrieve information, she was quick with her responses on how things were prepared. We ordered a margarita and two Bloody Mary's, and all the cocktails were excellent. Queso was excellent and came out with no delay. The Baja Fish Tacos were fantastic, as were the fat daddy enchiladas and the steak fajitas. We ate until we hit food-coma status. El*lis brought our ma a Togo box and had our check ready when we requested it. I was fat and happy and didn't have a negative thing to say about the whole meal. Great Sunday Lunch. read more

I agree with many of the former Texans who have commented about the lack of decent Tex-Mex in the DC area. I have been here for almost ten years, and every time I hear of a new Mexican restaurant, I try it, and usually only enjoy the guacamole. Chuy's is different. If you crave real Tex-Mex, you will love it. I've eaten at Chuy's in Austin, TX and Orlando, FL. The food and drinks at this location are exactly the same! If you grew up eating what passes for Mexican food in the Northeast, this may not be for you. I know that I will be a frequent customer. Some of the other reviews mention poor service, but I didn't experience that. I think as a new experience they are just experiencing growing pains. I would give this 6 stars if I could! read more

I was so excited to hear Chuy's was coming to Fairfax! I went opening night, it was jam-packed and a 45 minute wait for a table. My group of 6 waited around the bar area until we noticed a group leaving, the tables at the bar are first come first serve so we jumped on it immediately. The bar area was very busy and hectic and you had to maneuver around tables and people, I felt bad for the servers who kept getting stuck in the aisle. HH ended very quickly and we were only able to get one drink each- the majority of us got swirls and they were decent. When it came to ordering food our server seemed really annoyed and frustrated to be there and helping us (5 out of 6 of my group are also servers) so it was a little off putting. Again-opening night, very hectic, we let it slide. Our steak burrito, and the steak fajitas were way over cooked and we weren't asked for a cooking temp when ordering. They do have a make your own nacho bar which was very clever. I think I'll give it a few weeks and then I'll try it out again. read more

Ok.. So, some of my Facebook friends were raving about this authentic TexMex restaurant which would soon be opening in Fairfax. I had never heard of Chuy's but based on the positive FB chatter I decided to go with my wife,although I knew there would likely be a crowd, seeing as at it was only the second day it had been open. We were underwhelmed. The positives: The staff was friendly, and the place is clean with nice decor. The free chip bar with various sauces is a nice touch. The chips were good, the sauces probably slightly above average. It became clear that the staff and probably the kitchen was learning on the fly, and was probably overwhelmed by the continous crowd. The signature margarita I ordered was full of ice and I finished it literally in three sips. My wife's had much less ice, and was better. The margaritas are served in these clunky, super heavy/thick glass glasses, which make it appear you are getting much more than you actually are. I don't know what's wrong with a more traditional margarita glass, they are certainly easier to handle, and I think have more content. I did get a new drink comped after I complained. I really wanted to like this place. And I will say, I will try again, but it certainly wont be a special trip. For those who are looking for a quiet dining experience, this is not the place. This may be louder than Sweetwater Tavern at Gallows & 50. They pipe in fairly loud music into the bar and the dining area. The open layout causes everyone to talk above music, and when it's crowded as it was tonight, if you don't talk at an elevated level you wont be heard. This causes the snowball effect of people trying to be heard and talking ever louder. It's a very loud atmosphere in both the bar, which is to be expected, but also throughout the restaurant. To the food and the menu. The choices looked good, but our waiter was quite unfamiliar with the choices, and literally had to check with a higher-up on each question we asked. Example: So, why are some menu choices printed in Green & some in Brown ? ...Err...I don't know. It turns out the menu items in Green are the most popular selections. We both chose one of the popluar selections. My wife chose the Fish Tacos. When they arrived the were overfried, looking like two barren fish logs inside their soft taco shells. Underneath the fish pieces was some cabbage and cilantro, but one couldn't see the extras as they were beneath the monolithic pieces of fish. So, unwrapping the soft taco, what we saw were two well fried hotdog size pieces of fish, and Nothing else. By all objective standards, a weird presentation. We flagged down the waiter, showed him..and he trotted off to ask a higher-up. It turned out the main sauce had been omitted from both tacos, and I would guess the cabbage and cilantro was supposed to be on top. We were expecting fish pieces not a fried fish log, but perhaps we should have asked. The manager came over, apologized, brought some of the missing sauce in a dish, looked at the tacos, agreed it was poor and said of his own accord the cilantro portion was skimpy. But nothing else. We didn't get that entree comped. I had something from their Combination section..Comida something another, a variety of various selections of tex mex food. It was quite good. The food was hot, tasty, no complaints on that dish. Portions are generous. Prices are average. So, if you want anything approaching quiet dining, this isn't the place. Maybe they are working out the bugs with a new staff etc. which would explain the two exact same drinks, one being over jammed with ice and the other having almost too little. The incomplete and unappealing entree, was worthy of a Gordon Ramsey hairdryer treatment for someone in the kitchen. You know you are going to be busy and should be prepared. To miss a main component of an entree is pretty poor at any level, and in my view, that's an automatic comp. First impressions are important in my view, especially considering the hype. I remember 20 years ago, when people thought the Austin Grill was great. I would try again, once it calms down, but no reason to go out of my way. We loved Chuy's in Austin, we were thrilled to only have to go 2 hrs to Richmond when Chuy's opened there. Now we are about one hour from the one in Fairfax and are living for the day they come closer to Baltimore. You haven't lived until you have the Elvis Fried chicken! We stopped by for lunch today. The place was packed and we had to wait a few minutes for a table. Overall, we've experienced better. The service was good and prompt. Although the place was very busy, our service was spot on. Our server came over several times to check on us and our drinks were never empty. The food was less than stellar. Chips and salsa were fresh, but there was little or flavor. Tortillas were fresh but it was very tough to chew. Fajita plate for two came with lots of tortillas but the steak and chick were way over cooked. We don't recommend the combos. We tried the #1 and #3 and they looked pretty much alike beans and rice, and taco and melt cheese over everything... read more

Hopefully our first visit was because of the new staff. Arriving Saturday at 5 PM we were quoted 45 min. for 5 people. 80 min. later we were seated. Then after 30 min. 3 of our 5 meals arrived correct. The others took another 20 min. to correct. We were offered a sauce sampler that never arrived. The menu stated that kids meals come with dessert. Came to Chuy's last night for Daddy-Daughter Date Night at 400pm to beat the rush. We started with Chips and Salsa as per the standard Faire. Ryan was our server and I had a feeling he was a bit new to the industry, but I digress. I am a big hot sauce fan so he brought out the Hinto Green Chile, regular green chile and the creamy jalapeno. I was looking for some good heat but it just didn't measure up, still great flavor. My daughter order chicken quesadillas and I had the fish tacos. The presentation on both dishes were good. We had to return my daughter's quesadilla due to some peppers that snuck in by accident. But again, Ryan did a good job and was able to remedy the situation. My fish tacos were pretty delicious but could use a bit of work as it was lacking any onion and cilantro. Overall not too bad. The margaritas were good, the salsa and sauces were good, the food was good and the service was good. Being there at Happy Hour also helps. Would I come back? You bet. read more

I got spoiled back in the 80's when working in a restaurant in Charlottesville, called Lena's Dance, which had THE BEST TEX MEX FOOD I had ever tasted, until I went to CHUY'S! I am so glad to finally be able to eat home cooked Tex Mex food from fresh ingredients and fabulous recipes. The first thing I tasted on the plate was the rice and beans, and I knew - this is good! The food is excellent, the service was high class, including a visit from the manager, and the atmosphere is friendly, the music and decor was appropriately fun, but not in your face. 5 stars for the best Tex Mex in town!
