Always stop here for a meal when visiting my daughter. We went last night as soon as she got of off work which happened to still be happy hour! Our server was fantastic. He told us the nacho bar was still open in the bar, so we could help ourselves to queso, which we did. And the frozen lime margaritas were perfect, and half price. Can't beat that. Service was outstanding, ambiance was perfect, nice music, not too loud to have a conversation over dinner. My only complaint was the meal I ordered could have been way better. My daughter and I both got the stacked enchiladas, mine without sour cream and her was with. I was very disappointed in the stacked enchiladas, very little flavor, limp and soggy tortillas, very little cheese, and the chicken was dry. I will go back, but I will pick something different and better next time. My daughter has promised to never let me order the stacked enchiladas again! read more

Visiting from TX, I was excited to introduce my FL friends to true tex-mex. Love that this location has stayed true to its roots with its use of green chilies. The hostess was super awkward and sat us at a tiny table when all of the booths were open. Table and chairs were dirty and she stood there watching my boyfriend clean them off... After asking to be moved to a booth, we had a great visit. The chuychanga never disappoints. However, very confused about why my regular rice was spicier than my boyfriends "spicy" rice. At the location I've been to in TX, no such distinction has ever been made. Will return here and to my home location in Dallas! read more

Delicious food, glorious food, and genius sauces. I love the creamy jalapeño sauce on practically everything. The chips here are thin and crispy, and perfectly salted with pico de gallo (and free). The taco salad is amazing with mixed greens and tastes even better with sirloin as opposed to the fajita chicken. Considering, I do not eat much red meat. read more

This is a wonderful find hidden among the normal chain restaurants. The items on the menu are wonderful. Love the made fresh daily salsa. Each time I have been in it has been outstanding a a slight bit different. In a good way so that you know that it is being made daily. They make their own chips and tortillas. The only things not fresh on the menu is the french fries and the fish. Which is ok by me. As I dont even think about ordering them there. I have tried the steak burrito with the boom boom sauce. The Elvis combo and the chuychanga. All are excellent. I am definitely a repeat customer and recommend this place to everyone. The bar staff is great and make a great margarita on the rocks. The only thing that Chuy's can do to earn the last star is to slow down a bit. Every time I have been in there seems to be a rush. Everything comes out so fast and the wait staff are eager to rotate the tables. Each time after eating the staff would start clearing the table a little at a time. Letting you know it is time to leave. You kind of get the hint when they take your water away. read more

The ambiance is great and the other reviews were stellar.....but reality bites. The Fat Daddy Enchiladas were bland and soggy, the refried beans were nasty, but the rice was alright. The fajitas my wife had were not up to our expectations of a Mexican restaurant. The beans were again nasty and the steak looked like the cheapest cut possible. They abused the meat by piling on salt hoping to mask the lack of actual fajita flavor. The advertised mixed drink my wife ordered turned out to be wimpy size and drowned in lime juice. Overall this was extremely disappointing. We won't be visiting again. read more

This was my second visit to this chain. I remembered this being pretty typical overly salty Mexican fare so I went with the taco salad this time. It was crisp and tasty with plenty of fresh lettuce and some great bean/mean/salsa toppings. I enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed their "martini margaritas" which are basically margaritas without all the filler crap - exactly the way I like them and would make them at home. Muy Bueno. After hearing Texas friends rave about Chuy's I finally got to try it when I was in Gainesville this weekend. For chain Mexican (tex-mex) it was decent. Chips and salsa were good. We ordered creamy jalapeno, deluxe tomatillo, hatch green chili, and regular green chili sauce as well to try with our chips. My favorite was the creamy jalapeno it was hard to quit eating. For an entree I tried the chicken chile relleno and the chicka chicka boom boom enchilada. Boom boom sauce was great. If we ever are back I will order my meal with boom boom sauce! The chile relleno was good, nothing special though. Beans and rice weren't very good. Apparently there is a choice of beans and rice, but we weren't offered one. Service was not good. Our waitress was obviously very new. She didn't know the menu at all and seemed a little overwhelmed. Luckily they had the chip bar open so we were able to refill our own chips. Overall it was pretty good and offers a few different options and sauces than a typical Mexican restaurant. Next time I need to keep in mind if you bring in a framed photo of your dog you get a free appetizer! read more

This place is okay. It would be a good place to go with a group because its a fun atmosphere and the food is affordable. But after living in Texas for 6 years and having Tex-Mex on a weekly basis, I can tell you, this pales in comparison. But since this is Gainesville and this is the only Tex-Mex place, it gets a 3 star because there just isn't that much to compare it to here. The food comes in large portions and is decent. Prices are about what tex-mex chains average. The service is slow - the staff are helpful and good, but when it is busy they just can't keep up. Happy hour has nachos and drink specials so next time we'll try that out. We had a large group and they kept up with us all and were very generous with refills on chips, salsa and drinks. Everyone liked their dishes which ranged from fajitas, to sampler platters to burrito type items. Everyone was stuffed!!! Fun and busy! read more

The food was not terrible, but not the greatest. We moved from Texas recently so we were used to really good Tex Mex food. The salsa was not that hot and was very chunky. Fresh tortilla that really makes a difference is made on the hour in this place. The decor is very whimsy and bright. I enjoy the atmosphere. The level of service that is given is truly immense. The guacamole is fresh made and chunky, just the way that it should be instead of the mush you get at other Mexican restaurants. Great for tex mex. Nate was a great server. He's very personable and honest. Doesn't stand in your face for too long. Just gets his job done and moves right along. I love the grilled shrimp tacos although I'm still hungry afterwards. The fajitas are great and if you're health conscious just sub out for a yellow or blue Co. Tortilla pass on the sour cream and cheese and add jalapeño and lime. Chicka Chicka boom boom is good although the portion is smaller. 2 for 1 margaritas will get the job done and the sopa pilla desert is to die fpr. I dragged my boyfriend to a Mexican restaurant knowing he hated cilantro. He asked the waitress if the enchiladas had cilantro, but when it arrived the sauce had it blended inside. He didn't eat his food but the tacos I had ordered were delicious. The manager Justin came over and was very professional and gave excellent customer service. I would definitely return. read more

Being a native Tejana and growing up in the Mexican American culture, I consider myself an expert in Mexican and Tex-Mex food. Chuy's has the best Tex Mex food in the North Central part of Florida. They have homemade flour AND corn tortillas, and is the ONLY place of its kind that has them. I had the chicken enchiladas and they were delicious! I've been here a couple of times since it opened and they have a really solid offering of delicious Tex-Mex food. Both times I got one of the combo meals that offered a nice sampling of their tacos, burritos, churros, enchiladas, and rice and beans. Each item was excellent, although I think I'd say I liked the enchiladas the best. They offer free chips and salsa like any decent Tex Mex restaurant should. Their chips, flour tortillas, and hard shells are made right in the restaurant, and each room of the building has a uniquetheme that makes the atmosphere enjoyable and fun. One word of caution though: the waits can be long. My first attempt to eat at Chuy's failed due to an hour+ long wait for a weekend lunch, and my first visit was on a Friday evening that had a 45 minute wait. If you're looking to avoid wait times, go for lunch on a weekday. read more

This is our first visit to Chuy's last night as part of "All Day Fundraiser" (they donate 15% of your total food purchases to the UF Baby Gator Child Development Center). The food was pretty good. I wasn't really a fan of the beans and rice sides, but the enchiladas were awesome. I absolutely loved the creamy jalapeño ranch sauce for the chips. Only issue we had was our bill came not itemized. We didn't think the amount sounded right but paid anyway. After leaving we looked at the menu and added up what we had and we were over charged by $10. We called and talked to the manager and were told they knew and had cancelled that amount and ran the right amount, we had just left before they had a chance to let us know. The right amount did come out of my bank account, so no harm really done. Just watch your bill before you pay!! read more
