This place is a lively place to grab lunch. Order at the counter and then find seating. Surprisingly very quick service! When we arrived, it was very busy, but there was places for people to sit. It's Tuesday lunch hour. There was at least three groups of 8+ tables multiple booths with 2 to 4 people there was plenty of open seats at the bar. I would say from ordering to sitting down our food arrived probably in five minutes. It was so quick. And the quickness did not take away from the deliciousness. First time at Fresh Mex (Shops Blvd). The name says it all. FRESH! It was clean eating. I ordered a Life Bowl, all very fresh with Barbacoa, lettuce, pumpkin seeds, cabbage, jicama, black beans, chips, tomatoes, corn, and cheese. It was incredible and very healthy eating. Paid another visit to Fresh Mexico and Co. and I truly had the intention of trying something new. Don't happen, why mess with perfection. I'm such a fan of their Fajita Quesadilla the only thing I ended up doing was to add the yucca fries as a side. They were fantastic as well. Second time visit. They claim fresh, no chemicals, no additives, no microwaves, etc., just fresh food. After tasting it, I believe them. Everything we had tasted fresh. Being from Texas, it's not really Tex Mex to me per se. I'm also not a fan of going up to counter and ordering, and if you want alcohol, going to a separate counter and ordering. But those are operational implementations and some folks do like that. Venue is very clean and service was prompt. Second visit here and still wishing we had one closer to downtown! The food is delicious and I love that you can customize your bowl. We started with yucca fries, crispy and so good! Reminded us of our favorite ones when we lived in Tampa. My husband enjoyed his very large quesadilla and my shrimp life bowl was great. We have previously ordered online which makes customizing your bowl easier, wish it was easier in person, it feels rushed when ordering with a long line. This was a perfect weekday lunch for 10 people! You order at the counter and I was really impressed at how quick they made the orders! They have big tables but also have booths and a small bar and some outside tables. I got the life bowl with grilled shrimp and it was fresh, a huge portion and filling. It's served in a big bowl and all the components are separate and you mix them together. Extremely average and overpriced mexican food. The chips fell apart easily and they charged $10 for a very small cup of guacamole that was bland. This is a fast casual tex-mex restaurant at St. JOHN'S Town Center. I have eaten here several times and have always had the taco salad, either with chicken or steak added. The Salad is a big portion with a variety of ingredients. They also offer several different dressings, including chipolte ranch. The ambiance is nice with either indoor or outdoor seating. Put the excitement on the back burner. I cut it in half hoping to have the other half for lunch tomorrow, instead I threw it away. Not worth even saving. I ordered the steak burrito, no way that was premium steak. It almost tasted like hamburger meat compressed into a patty. The burrito wrap was again like eating through a paper bag. The employees are friendly and my order is always correct as well as delicious. My go-to order is the taco salad with barbacoa. Sometimes I get carnitas instead. Both are great. I especially love their cilantro ranch dressing. Their taco salad is always fresh and very filling. Hubby usually gets the same thing I do and always enjoys it. The beer selection for a beer aficionado is very very slim. The service was good with the bartender being very attentive. The ambiance was nice; I really like the windows that passed through to the outside. While it was windy and unseasonably cold while we were there, we did sit outside. The reason I'm giving this place a poor rating is that my wife and I saw a staff member wipe down a table with a broom. The staff were very friendly and I did enjoy the look and environment of the restaurant but the food missed the mark. All of our food needed more salt and I understand it's a somewhat healthier option but the flavors were so bland.
