We have eaten here several times and every time we come the food is hot and fresh. The bathrooms are clean and the wait staff is friendly. The past few times I have had food restrictions and they are very accommodating. The are always packed with people but I always have gotten great food and service. Sitting here now at a table in the middle of an incredibly crowded and loud restaurant! We can barely hear our server (whom isn't much to brag on whatsoever). We order our drinks and queso about 6 minutes after being sat, a tad too long to wait to meet our server. The queso taste like hormel chili out of a can - gross. I personally don't like salsa, but it doesn't look like something anyone in their right mind would eat. Waiting on our meal now - hopefully it helps their poor rating. Well well well -- the food actually brought the review DOWN. It was all pitiful. I don't like giving such sad reviews. My mom was just happy she ordered something cheap. We came in for lunch and it wasn't very busy. I've been to several chuy's in Houston and was coming in with experience. I felt the service here was very slow. Food was good, chuy's standard, great queso and I had a cheese relleno. My main reason for the 3 start review is due to the slow service. I needed to get back to work and asked for a to go box. The server took so long getting it or possibly just forgot as we got our bills and everything and I didn't have the time to wait so I just left. I knew better, but I had an envie for Mexican food that wouldn't quit. So, I stopped in for takeout the other night and ya'll...it just was not worth it. Let me just say that service was stellar. I walked in without calling ahead and that was no problem. I was quickly shown a menu and got suggestions. I chose the chicken and shrimp fajitas and their queso dip. The queso dip was just blah. I like it spicy and this was not spicy. Like not even close. The chicken and shrimp fajitas were pretty good, but nothing to brag about. They were cooked fine but honestly there wasn't enough and again, not spicy. Also, they are served with corn tortillas which is ok since I wasn't eating the carbs anyway, but if you're expecting a nice warm flour tortilla (yum) you might have to request one. We had evacuated for hurricane IDA and spent some time in Lafayette. We went to this place and the server was so sweet!! Thank you so much Tanya for your generosity and sweet personality!! Been here three times and I have to say I'm not really impress with the food at all. The second time we went three tables received their food before we did and we was there first. What makes Chuy's so good is the little touches. I had a question about the Boom Boom sauce and my server grabbed a sample from the kitchen for me to try. Needless to say it was delicious. The tea wasn't ready and she brought it out as soon as it was finished. I was happy to wait because I love freshly brewed tea- most places use instant but this was perfect. Make sure and get that ranch dip/sauce with the chips and salsa- also homemade and full of flavor. We were visiting Lafayette and on a whim decided to try Chuy's. My first impression was that ai loved the atmosphere/decor! Super-cute whimsical, retro with interesting things to study while you wait for your food. Our server was a sweet, friendly doll! Perfectly attentive without hovering-that's an art! She immediately brought out our chips and salsa - the chips were hot and the salsa was refreshing and cold - loved both, but those thin, crispy chips - YUM! Our food came out a little while later piping hot. I had the 'Big as Yo' Face' seasoned ground beef Burrito. The title says it all, folks. It was huge and tasty. My Mom had the Elvis special, and my Aunt, the chickenchanga. Again, huge amounts of beautifully seasoned tasty food. Our waitress (I wish I could remember her name) kept our drinks topped off and was pleasant and friendly throughout our meal. Not sure why there are so many negative comments on here about this place. I was raised in Austin and Chuy's was the place to go once a week to eat with all of my family for years and years. So I know Chuy's original quality. This restaurant in Lafayette..has that quality. The food was great, the atmosphere felt like home and our waitress was exceptional. We went during lunch on a Sunday and the restaurant was packed. We were seated within a few minutes of arriving and our waitress was attending to us within 5 minutes. Our food came on time, it was hot and definitely cooked to perfection. My Mexican martini hit the spot and definitely made me miss home. We order take out every weekend as we are often to tired to go out. We used to live in Murfreesboro TN and the Chuy's there was awesome. Almost every week our order is missing something from the order. No Tortillas for my soup, no sour cream paid for, no chillis paid for and it goes on. They probably owe us a year's worth of dinners. Last week was the straw that broke the camels back. Called in order, 25 mins, husband heads out 10 mins later (we live 15 miles away). He starts texting how he is really mad. He waited over an hour because it turned out the person on the phone hadn't entered it. We are now looking for something with good management because thus place is terrible. read more

Tried this place out for the first time on a Friday evening. It hasn't been open very long, and has been jam packed just about every time I pass by. The wait was over an hour, which we were already expecting, but luckily we were able to get a booth in the bar area. (***you don't have to have a waiter seat you in there. It's first come first serve!) Had we not aggressively pursued this open spot, we might have just been standing around, which I'm not a big fan of. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that it was happy hour or something, and we discovered the self-serve nacho bar with salsa, queson, bean dip, guac, and more. All the toppings were delicious and we stuffed our faces before making it to our table for dinner. I think I had a chimichanga, which is my standard Mexican restaurant testing dish, and it was delicious. I had them use a multitude of their different sauces on top, a few of which are really interesting and tasty, and I was happy with my meal. To top it off, we got the tres leche for dessert which WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Overall it was a pretty great experience and I look forward to checking it out again very soon. read more

Delighted to find a TexMex that serves crispy tacos. Comp salsa not great, but beef used in tacos and other products is delicious. Atmosphere fun and very "margaritaville". Extremely busy. Promised they will make it right!!! PSA: Worse place ever!!! Chuy's LAFAYETTE, LA Mind you, we have been in this place [several] times, even when we had bad service, blew it off as a bad night. Here we go- there is family in town from Houston(real Chuys Veterans- Kirby/Westheimer) and Lake Charles. Wayne George, Barbara Leger, Mook Day, Carly Tabarelli. Alecia McDonald Gallegos, John Hulse, Heidi Jacobs McDonald, Amy Jannise, Mandy Craig LeJeune. So, we begin by having someone there early and the Chuy's Staff gave Wayne George BS because we were on our way and they said we have 10 minutes to get there- this was after the staff giving him nonsense for putting tables together in which I've seen insescently on several occasions in the bar area. He even stated the hostess blew him off and rolled her eyes... Now, we get there (13 more people, so now we have a total of 15) and take our seats (mind you we sped there to make it with no hiccups). We all order our drinks and my sister from Houston ordered a Margarita with [no salt] and they deliver one with salt and she returns it. Now it really begins- the waitress brings the salted margarita back to the bar, not for them to make another, but to pour the salted margarita into an unsalted glass. This is unacceptable due to it still has salt in it - kind of like a burger place getting your hamburger and wiping the mustard off of it and giving you back the same burger. That was the first hiccup. Now, it gets even better! So we all order.... Most of our orders were wrong, which [this] Lafayette location has hardly ever made our order right, even through waiter. ** now mind you, I just, last weekend, spent $50 on a to-go drink and chips and dip for the LSU/Alabama game. Now, here is where this really gets stupid, for lack of a better term(should be worse), we send a fee things back- while we are waiting for our correct orders, the waitress rolls to the bar within earshot and is bad-mouthing our table. The reason I know this is because the waitress is pointing and the other two are turning their lips up to us like we're the villains and not thinking we're watching. As the waitress brings our checks back, I confront her in a very, as a matter of fact way. Our while table was speaking of not tipping and I felt she needed to know what our plight was. I proceeded to run down the list, actually politely and mentioned that we (the whole table) did not appreciate her running off and noticeably talking about us and this guy at the bar interrupts and tells me, "not to speak to her that way..." and I reply, "you must be [her] boyfriend?" And he states,"Yes I am and I am a Police Officer..." i informed him it was absolutely none of his business and what difference does it make if he is a Police officer!?!?" This has to do with an unsatisfied group of customers... This is where it gets extremely interesting... I start looking for the Manager. I get to the Point-of-Sale Station by the kitchen and the waitress is crying. Yep, crying. I now ask for the Manager and the Assistant Manager starts to speak with me and inquiring about the issue... NOW... The actual General Manager, slicked back hair, and white button up shirt, and around his mid to maybe late 30s basically turns to me and belts out, "TAKE YOUR CARDS, CONGRATULATIONS, YOU GET YOUR MEAL FOR FREE, AND GET THE F!@K OUT OF HERE- WE'RE CALLING THE COPS AND DONT EVER F@$KING COME BACK IN HERE AND WE CAN TAKE THIS OUTSIDE FOR WHAT YOU DID TO MY WAITRESS...." Now, mind you, we were still trying to pay for our lovely experience, but the guy actually called the cops for us voicing our experience in a calm and orderly manner. I love Chuys and have frequent business meetings and several gatherings which meet there and even show up early with a minimum of 8-10 people for Tini Tuesday which is for the Healing House and know many which are on the Board. I will INSESCENTLY POLITIC to remove Chuys from that lineup and replace it with a Local Restaurant immediately. I will also post this to my 3000+ FB friends and ask them to share the HELL out of this. This has to top THE WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER. Mind you, I run my own business and have waited tables and my wife was a bartender. Bypass this restaurant unless you are one to go for Happy Hour for the FREE CHIP STATION AND A DRINK OR TWO. I looked on the usual apps to find a great Mexican restaurant and noticed a really bad review a few days ago about Chuy's that caught the attention of management. Soooo I thought NOW is a great time to visit Chuy's. I hoped that all the problems would be worked out. I was right! We arrived on a very busy Wednesday evening. The place was packed! We were seating in a booth that has seen better days. It is becoming thread bare. But that's ok. We were served an order of warm crispy chips and salsa along with a creamy jalapeño dip. The salsa was too hot for my liking, but the jalapeño dip was perfect! I got a combination plate with one taco and one cheese enchilada. My plate was very hot and kept my food hot throughout the meal. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant as the patrons all seemed to be enjoying each other. It's not a quiet place, but more of a fun and exciting environment. After my meal I remembered seeing flour tortillas being made. I ordered some with butter! Oh, my! That was yummy! So, I'm glad we ignored the poor review and gave this place a chance! read more

We stopped in here in the middle of lunch on a Tuesday and we were still seated right away. The Chips came hot and fast and were served with Salsa and Creamy Jalapeno dressing. Both the Chips and the Creamy Jalapeno were fantastic. We ate way too many chips because they were just too good and we were starving. It was our first time and our waiter was awesome! He brought us a taste test sampler platter of every sauce they sell so we could finally make a decision on how to order. I at least narrowed it down to two - the Boom-Boom and Queso sauces, so I ordered the Famous Custom Enchiladas. I got the Roasted Chicken with Queso sauce on top and the Cheese with Boom-Boom sauce on top. I also asked if I could get guacamole with my Enchiladas instead of Rice and Beans and it was worth it because the guac was delicious! I really enjoyed both sauces on my Enchiladas and also enjoyed the Cheese Enchilada, but the Roasted Chicken did not taste Roasted, it tasted boiled and seemed like it was not seasoned at all, not even with salt. And all that was in the Enchilada was that Chicken. What a shame. A good cook knows to season every layer or part of the dish. Instead, it seemed their cooks were relying too much on their sauce to do all the work for them, and I did in fact, have to break open the Enchilada and pull all the Chicken out onto my plate so it could directly soak in the juices of the sauces before I could attempt to finish it. I definitely would not order the Roasted Chicken unless it was the one with Cheese in it too, since I haven't tried that combo yet. In addition, my lunch date ordered the Chimichanga, which interestingly, also had the Roasted Chicken, but he let me taste it and it was beautifully seasoned inside. Both of us said we would order that again, and I am usually turned off if a dish uses too much cilantro, but this one did it just right. My date also ordered a seasoned Ground Beef Soft Taco on the side, but he did not even finish it and it looked pretty pitiful to me. I had the Tuesday special and my order came out 20 mins before the rest of the party of 8. 5 of the 8 were kids meals, chicken nuggets and fries, which I believe takes less than 10 8 mins to fry. On top of my food coming out early, it came out cold as well. The rice and the steak taco were cold. My sister ordered the flauntas and her food came out cold as well. Love me some Chuy's!!! It's obviously not authentic Mexican but it's dang good Tex Mex! Love the creamy jalapeño sauce and the BOOM BOOM SAUCE if you like it spicy!!! When eating IN the restaurant everything has always been top notch from food to service, it's spot on!!! I do order Chuy's on Waitr occasionally, they do a wonderful job of separating out the different sauces and such so your food isn't soggy when it arrives. My only complaint is regardless of what you order by the time it gets to you it's normally room temp/cold... not sure if that's because of the restaurant or the driver... read more

I used to go to Chuy's in Dallas years ago. I've probably eaten there 5-6 times, and it was pretty good each and very time I went. I guess this was when Chuy's only had 15-20 restaurants. Now they have over 60. This new joint in Lafayette is not even in the same universe as the Chuy's in Dallas. Crappy, poorly prepared Chile Rellenos, not even made correctly, tasteless beans, weak pico de gallo that they pass off as salsa (what happened to the salsa?), a boring and mediocre beef taco was what we had there yesterday. It really bothers me that some of these chains started out good, and as they grow and get cloned time and time again, the food and menus go downhill, and they just become another Mexican or Italian place in town. Carraba's was the same way. Years ago they were a good place... now it's just another Italian joint. You couldn't pay me to have another meal at this Chuy's. Even in the desert of good Mexican that Lafayette is, you can get a good meal at La Pagua or Maya's near the airport... but not this place. /major fail. read more

Ok, take it with a grain of salt bacuase this is a new restaurant in this area, and the only one in Louisiana. That being said: get your act together quickly, Chuy's. The staff is rude, the food is not up to the par of other Chuy's, and the location is not conducive to repeat business. Went in for happy hour. All of the waitstaff congregated there to talk loudly and cuss while I was trying to get refried beans. We get it, twenty-somethings, you can swear at work. Congrats. While we ate, the manager picked the booth right behind us to conduct a de facto meeting to handle payroll issues. Really? Here?? Out of the entire bar area, you pick here? Thanks, "Brad"! That degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management is paying off. The food was edible, thank God. But, we will will not be back. The location is jammed into a shopping area with zeo curb appeal. I got the Tex Mex sauce which she warned was "hot" but not for anyone native to Louisiana. It was warm and good, but not hot. The meats (chicken and beef) were tender and good but again, not spicy. Having said that, they were good. Both sauces they provided with the free chips were also very good. Not the best salsa which was more of a pico but still good. We will come back for sure. The atmosphere is inviting and friendly. The food isn't the top Mexican I have had but it was good. The service was better. I have eaten at Chuy's once before in Austin, TX and was excited when I found out there was one in Lafayette. The jalapeño sauce that they give you to dip the chips in is absolutely addicting. Our group had it refilled at least 5 times because it was THAT good. My entree was a big let down- chicken flautas. They did not have melted cheese in them and were only served with sour cream. Very dry and the chicken was bland. I asked for a side of queso which made them edible, but still not enjoyable. Dessert was another highlight- the tres leches cake. It tasted like cake with melted ice cream running through it and was served atop a cream sauce with strawberries. I am sad I can't enjoy a slice right now as I write this review. Also worth mentioning is the martini- it was a spicy raspberry. Sweet at first with a hint of spice in the after taste. Went down smooth and the portion was generous.
