Visited this restaurant for the first time this past weekend and man was I impressed! Food- They off all your traditional Mexican food such as burritos, tacos and enchiladas. I went with the chicken fajitas which were really good. The fajitas come with nice fresh lettuce, pico cheese, guac and sour cream. The best thing to me was how fresh and soft the tortilla was, it was probley the best tortilla I have been served at a restaurant. You can even see the lady making them when you walk in. Service- The food was good but what stood out most was the service. I came in around lunch time on a Sunday and the place was busy but not too packed. Since this was my first time dining at a chuy's we asked what dishes the server recommend. She explained a few but also explained all the sauces they offer. To go above and beyond she brought out every single Sauce they offer and sat down with us to explain each one. For a second I was like man is this a 5 star dinning experience because of how nice she was to take the time to not only explain all the options but also let us taste them. I'm not usually a fan of restaurants like Chuy's...it feels like a chain that puts more emphasis on kitschy decor and cheap booze than producing edible food. Chuy's is definitely NOT this kind of place! We have eaten here several times - I wanted to make sure my first few visits were not anomalies - and we have eaten delicious food, every single time. As a fairly recent transplant to Lexington, I have been less than dazzled by the Mexican food options in our town. The food at Chuy's is Tex-Mex, and good quality Tex-Mex at that. If you are undecided about what to order after scanning the menu, it pays to have a chat with your server...they are very knowledgable about the food, and have always taken time to find out what kinds of things we like and have made some excellent recommendations. We have ordered the beef fajitas, chicka-chicka boom-boom enchiladas, Elvis' green chili fried chicken, and special nachos with beef, among many other things. They make several different sauces...we have asked for a sampling of all of them so we could try them out and our server was happy to oblige. They make tortilla chips exactly the way I love them: light, thin, and crispy. Chuy's is not expensive, not loud, and the interesting artwork has provided material for lots of fun discussions while we were waiting for our food. Went here twice for yelp elite week (once with my own +1 and once as a friend's +1). I will start this off by saying both times, the food was ready quick, hot and delicious! However, the service varied a lot. When I went on Friday night with my friend, our server was fabulous. She gave us the sauce tour and explained all entrees on the green chile menu. She was personable and the manager checked in on us to make sure everything was to our liking. I attended again tonight with a friend and had talked up my experience from Friday. Tonight however, there was no sauce tour and no explanation of the menu. The server did add in a dessert, but was much more focused on a large party next to us. The Pablos enchiladas were delicious paired with the New Mexico margarita. The tres leches cake was to die for! All and all, delicious food, but inconsistent service. read more

This was my very first time a Chuy's and it was a great experience. There was a bit of a wait and I had to be somewhere after, so my friend and I sat at the bar (first come kind of deal). I'm so glad we did because the girl working the bar took great care of us! I wish I got her name, but if you see a petite girl with long red hair, go to that section! She was so helpful and very sweet. We were promptly served chips with 2 types of dips (both spicy to me), got an entree, and dessert. The food was good, but the dessert was so delicious! We got the Tres Leches (I think that's what it's called) and it hit the spot. Definitely a Tex-Mex place to check out. read more

Excellent food all the way around. They have the best salsa and the creamy jalapeño dip is amazing. I buy that to take home and use as a salad dressing to liven up a dull lunch salad at work. Their fajitas are excellent, as are the tacos & chile Rellenos. Even their tortilla soup is top notch. They definitely do not skimp on quality of ingredients. I've used their curb side to go several times and love the convenience of it. The only negative I have for Chuy's as a whole is about the to go service though. The plastic ware they provide for their to go customers is very very cheap. The plastic pieces are usually Warped or misshapen. The small square of tissue paper included to act like a napkin is a pathetic joke. McDonalds provides higher quality plastic ware & napkins. All in all, I love Chuy's and will continue to go, but if you are ever getting a meal to go, make alternative arrangements for napkins and utensils. This is the only area where I've found Chuy's to be lacking in quality and service to their customers. read more

I've always had excellent service and friendly attentive service which is why I return. Oddly dislike their margarita mix and other drinks. Some food seems quite 'frozen ahead' and very chain restaurant oriented. Ask a service about sauces and get hatch sauce and ask for extra sauce. The jalapeño dip is great and their chips. I'm not fond of some items especially corn tortillas in some dishes obviously aren't homemade or fresh. The shrimp is battered or bland. read more

No exaggeration, this might be the worst restaurant I've ever been to in my life. I should've known by the fact that they were playing 90s R&B on the speakers outside that it wasn't going to be anything close to authentic Mexican food, but unfortunately I went along with it instead of suggesting we eat somewhere else. Once you're inside, you realize what a mess this place is -- they sell punny t-shirts and have framed photos of random people's dogs on the walls, practically screaming at you, "HEY! WE THINK WE'RE QUIRKY!" Our table wasn't any better: a faux-Formica table with small plush chairs that made me feel like I was sitting at a child's fold-out table, right next to a gigantic, fake palm tree. The decor in this place feels like a kids' themed restaurant you'd find somewhere like Universal Studios. All of this could've been overlooked if the food was good, but it was also some of the worst food I've ever eaten in my life -- without a doubt the worst food I've ever paid money for. If you went to public school during the Obama administration, think about the taco salad you'd get served at lunch, and Chuy's food isn't far off. I ordered the Comida Deluxe, and it was truly disgusting. Cardboard tortillas and coagulated, spongy cheese, unseasoned beef and tasteless rice. I'm a white, rural Kentuckian and I can cook better Mexican food myself. To top it all off, the bill was $40 for two plates of dog-slop and a watery margarita. Include the fact that you can get the creamy jalapeno dip, and you're set. Well, almost. Don't forget the drink specials. There's a Mexican Martini which is really a margarita, but that's semantics. The amazing part of this is that it's a green chile-infused El Jimador silver tequila and Cointreau, served with jalapeno-stuffed olives. YUM! It comes in a little shaker and you'll get a couple of glasses out of it. There's also some fruity frozen ones to try, including a blood orange flavor which is delicious. Nachos and alcohol aside, the menu offers tacos, burritos, fajitas and more. The nice thing about Chuy's is that the ingredients are all fresh, the tortillas are hand-rolled, and there are a ton of different sauces to try. Another thing to note is that even though Chuy's is a chain, each restaurant is unique in the fact that no two are decorated the same. Until last night I couldn't differentiate between Tex Mex and just any old Mexican place on the corner of any street in any city, but after taking a culinary journey through several dishes, I can now confidently say there is a distinct flavor profile - and heat level - that sets Chuy's apart from any other 'Mexican' place. First of all let me say: Their margaritas are bar none the best in Lexington. All the juices are freshly squeezed daily (who would have thought they did this in a chain restaurant???) and the blackberry margarita is to die for! I don't normally order my margaritas frozen, but the it and the lime versions taste more like smoothies than alcoholic beverages. YUM! I also sampled a special appetizer platter for our event consisting of chile con queso, nachos, deluxe quesadillas (FAVORITE DISH OF ALL), chicken flautas (also very very good), guacamole, and sour cream. The Steak Burrito was savory and oh-so-SPICY! Then again, I'm a wimp, but all of my dining companions were draining their water glasses as well, so maybe it wasn't just me. The Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom Enchiladas were delicious and dreamy, and I think it's all about that sauce, honestly. The Veggie Enchiladas didn't read as very exciting on the menu, but one bite had me convinced otherwise. There are 8 (!) veggies in the dish and the Ranchero Sauce was SO tasty! Last but certainly not least, let me tell you about the Tres Leches cake. I knew better than to eat it - I'm a lactose intolerant person who's a glutton for punishment - but I did it anyway. My tastebuds thanked me endlessly, even though the rest of my body was in agony. It was light and airy, not at all soggy like some I've had, and simply delightful. The entire meal was incredibly filling, flavorful, and diverse. Prior to last night all I sought Chuy's for was the happy hour and nacho bar, but not anymore. I'm a believer and you should be, too! Did I mention that they also CATER now?? Any size party, big or small, they can take care of it all. There was a bit of a wait for a group our size, but it was happy hour, so we just passed the time by enjoying the FREE nacho bar (beans, queso, salsa, etc.) and cheap frozen margaritas (I'd recommend the strawberry and the peach - lime isn't anything to write home about.) When we were seated, our server was great. Having gorged on the aforementioned nachos (and the chips with salsa AND jalapeño dip that came free at the table) my husband and I just split an entree. We went for the boom boom enchiladas, and they were great. The green chile rice was fresh, delicious, and did not appear to be from a box (score!) My only complaint is how stuffed I was when I left. This was the first time that my fiancé and I have been to Chuy's. They did not disappoint! The place was absolutely packed but our wait was only 10 minutes. Once we were seated, our waiter came to us within 3 minutes. We had drinks within 5 minutes of sitting. They allowed us to sample some frozen martinis - the Strawberry one is AMAZING. Also, the happy hour there is so great. Who doesn't love free queso? We then ordered the # 2 combo (Elvis Presley Memorial Combo). There was so much food; we both had to get to-go boxes. The pricing was equally as great. For the amount of food we received, two alcoholic drinks, and the immense amount of chips and queso was well worth it. Our server was good but he only refilled my drink once and that was after I had finished my meal. I think he just assumed I was going to drink alcohol and that was it. Carry out is a disaster ? The waitress who took my order on the phone had ZERO personality. Didn't tell me to call when i arrived. Didn't ask what kind of car. We had four scoops of chips because our order wasn't even put in the P.O.S. system, and a stout 60% of the chips we received were raw. Asked for a titos cherry limeade. I'd like some more liquid fit for human consumption rather than a cup full of cherry syrup flavoring, couldn't taste a bit of the vodka for even limeade. The young lady that was our server somehow didnt even realize she did not place our order till about 45 minutes in. She even said the kitchen was backed up, then her next visit was her saying she didn't put it in. Guessing the kitchen backed up was a lie, as other tables seated before us were already eating. This was my third time eating at Chuy's. I ordered an enchilada and chile relleno combination platter. I love that you can choose from any enchilada and chile relleno they have on there menu as part of this combo platter (they don't restrict you to choosing only from their basic chicken, beef, and cheese options). I chose the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom for my enchilada and the cheese and shrimp chile relleno. Charro beans and green chili lime rice were excellent accompaniments to this combo platter! First of all let me say you can not go wrong with the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. The Boom Boom Sauce is amazing. That being said I'm a bit of a chile relleno snob. I typically order chile rellenos at every Mexican restaurant I frequent. Chuy's version of a chile relleno was good but not awesome, but then again I prefer a more "authentic" version of this dish. I appreciate that Chuy's offers a shrimp and cheese chile relleno, something that I've never seen on any other Mexican restaurant menu. The con for me on this Chuy's version was the panko-like breading on the chile. I like a less gourmet and less Americanized version of this dish. Chuy's complimentary tortilla chips are light and crispy and served with a tasty jalapeño cream dipping sauce and a fresh tasting tomato salsa!
