I have been here a lot, most often for lunch. I will say sitting at the bar at lunch gets pretty lackluster service, so a table may be a better bet. The bartender is just stretched thin. Their creamy jalapeño sauce on everything is the best! Most recently I ordered the chuychanga and it is always a safe go to. Not healthy as it's fried but delicious and I got 2 meals from it! Had a reservation at 6pm on a Monday for 6 people sat on the bar side of place. In 40 minutes only had the server check up on us once at the beginning & had to walk up to her to order drinks for the table, she never came back. She kept serving the people sitting at the bar front, vs the people at the tables. So we got up and left following another table that got up and left as well. Went to tell the front hostess, and the hostess response was "well we are busy" with an attitude but they weren't. They had only one person on the bar side, don't know if they were under staff because of covid but they handled it unprofessional I never complain or walk up and leave but this was just horrible. This is your typical Chuys. Expect excellent food for a price that's more than what it should be. I love their flautas with queso! AMAZING. One of the best Mexican restaurants. It was on a day I wasn't in a mood for anything in particular and without even trying, it hit the spot. We started with the chips and salsa with ranchero sauce. We are not spicy or Mexican food people, but when you have a free dinner waiting for you, you go! Came on a Wednesday night. Good thing to try during happy hour. Eclectically decorated. But plenty of tables. Seated immediately. Wait staff very good. We started with queso. Initially thought that paying nearly $10 for full price for the amount they brought out was a bit much, but it was pretty good. Too spicy for me to finish all of it, but take into account that I ask for a negative on the spicy scale haha. Chips are fresh and warm! We were very disappointed. Showed up at our pick up time and sent a text. Waited for 30 minutes with no response. Called and they said they would bring it right out. Waited 15 min more and no response. Went inside and hostess said it wasn't ready. Another customer came back in and found out they gave them our order. Hostess just passed the returned food to me. Kind of gross. Half the items were incorrect and half of them were missing (kids meal, queso). Food was cold and picked over. Margarita was melted. My wife was too grossed out that they gave us returned food. We threw everything out and got something else. Needleless to say we were extremely disappointed with everything. On our very first visit we had an awesome experience at Chuy's. Very first thing I have to compliment is our server. Bethany was great! We had tons of questions with it being our first time there and Bethany answered all of them without making us feel rushed. Our food came quickly and it was top notch. We decided to try this place again. We tried it when they first opened, but we weren't really impressed. A lot of chicken dishes and small amount of combinations of different items. Hubby had a steak burrito, it looked and tasted good. I had the combo fajitas and they were good. Best item that we had, hand made tortillas. Very good. Our server was nice. Place was clean. I'll be honest. When I first visited Chuy's I was not a fan- not at all. I visited this location when it first came to the area. My husband and I waited three weeks just to be able to get in the door without having to wait hours for a seat. We had bad food and bad service and I told myself I would never be back. That was over a year ago. But, recently, I met some friends for dinner and they wanted to go there. I told myself I was just going to meet friends and that was it. I didn't know I was going to fall in love with the place. We had a great waiter, who was funny, charming and very helpful (Maybe it helped that the girls I were with are great looking.) The minute I bit into the tortilla chips with the white dip (Ranch and jalapeño) I was hooked. The chips are thin, crisp, warm and delicious. The salsa is great but the ranch dressing concoction was refreshing. The decor is everything that paints a happy time. It's bright, cheery and has the feel of a vacation destination. With the bright walls, vintage-style tables and chairs, art-deco paintings, fancy lights throughout, a smile is hard to hide in this place. The food smelled delicious and tasted better- more food than what was needed - but, delicious. We couldn't have made a better choice in restaurants. I have been wanting to check this place out for a while, along with the "mysterious" Austin Landing, which we'd been hearing about waaaaaaaaaay over in Springfield, but had not yet figured out exactly what was going on down there... Well, it's ok, but something "no muy bueno" happened to make me ding off at least a star (or more...) and I want to know if it's just my "el cheapo" talking or if this bugs the @#$%& out of YOU too...!!?! Nice place, cool "stuff," quick and easy seating on a Saturday night (!?!) and service was good. We liked both salsas that came with the chips, but the creamy lime/cilantro-based one was my favorite. The Tex-Mex menu is chock full of choices, most of the usual suspects along with a few funky choices that seem to involve Elvis. The Mr. got the Elvis combo and I got a veggie combo, which was offered with one sauce, and I asked the waitress if I could switch to another choice out of their half a dozen or so options. "Sure, no problem..." and we waited a more or less reasonable time for our meal. The food was fine, if slightly mushy and a teeny bit overcooked (?) but nothing beyond redemption. Service was fine, no dings there, until we got the bill and discovered I was charged nearly $2 more for my salsa switch!!! Nope, two extra dollars won't break me, but HECK, how much extra "combat pay" is needed for switching one salsa for another??!!? And if it IS such a "titanic struggle" to make that switch, why not tell me up front?? Nitpicky, but made me wonder... Most of the menu items at Chuy's are unapologetically inauthentic, but if you order something with the green chile, it makes up for it a bit. It's the best thing on their menu in my opinion, with most other things being missable. For a large chain though, the food is not bad (nor is it memorable though), and the couple of times I've visited the Austin Landing location, I've had friendly, fast service. The chips and salsa at the beginning of the meal are delish. I like the lightness of the Chuy's chips, and the salsa has just enough spice to make it worth repeat dips of the chips. Although I'm a sucker for things like green chile and a solid chip-and-salsa combo, all other food choices I've made at Chuy's have disappointed. I've tried a few different entrees from fish tacos to a beefy burrito, and although the portions are generous and eating there is a good value, the food itself is unworthy of the indulgence. Mexican food should be bright, vibrantly flavored, spicy (not necessarily hot spicy but well-spiced), aromatic, and I've not experienced extraordinary flavors here. Perhaps the most disorganized restaurant I've ever seen. While I am writing this review we are still waiting for our food :) Drinks take 30 minutes after ordering. Our appetizer took us 50 minutes. Granted the server told us she forgot to put it in, and that she would make it on the fly, but it still took another 20 minutes after that. As far as food, still waiting (closing in on an hour and a half.) Now mind you, if drinks came quicker, I'd be okay-ish with the looooong waits. However, I can't give them my money quick enough! My dish isn't hot (semi warm) The egg on top is cold and seems to have been sitting for a while. You can probably tell from the picture... Other random notes: -asked twice for a side of sauce with meal. Still waiting -one of our table mates ordered a second drink 25 minutes ago. The waitress has told us twice since she is checking on it. Still waiting :) So yes, take from this review what you will. I wouldn't recommend this place! Update: got our checks. They charged us $3.59 for the side of boom boom sauce we asked for twice and never received. We asked the waitress to take it off and also asked if we could have a discount on the appetizer. They took both off and she once again said sorry because the appetizer was her fault. All in all, avoid this place. Crazy wait time for food and drinks. When the food did come, it was meh. I thought for sure a manager would stop by after seeing the ticket times but they either are somehow unaware or simply don't care. Yay, I'm a fan. I'm really unsure as to all the crappy reviews. So here's my two cents, do with it what you will. A new transplant from Cleveland where the abundance of crappy Mexican chains abound, I wasn't, and quite frankly, don't expect much from Mexican food in Ohio. Yes, yes, I know Chuy's touts Tex-Mex, which I guess they are. The selections are slightly different from what you'd find at a "trad" mex place. You still have your typical beans and rice, but I'd say there is more of an American flare to this Tex-Mex. Chips are thin and crispy. Silver comes in a funny white paper sack that informs you it was sanitized (thanks?). Salsa varies from location to location. I find I liked the salsa better at the Beavercreek location vs the Miamisburg. But hey, each to their own. They don't offer a "hot" salsa variance, so just go with the flow. Drinks can be simple or more inspired depending on your fancy for the moment. All beer is bottled, no drafts. Margs are traditional or you can get creative with them. They have a spicy margarita infused with jalapeños. It is interesting. Food is ok. I've been a few times and they always recommend then chicka chicka boom boom. It's ok. Not amazing. I think they over-cook the chicken and it tends to be a bit dry. The beans (refried) are great! Probably some of my favorites. I love the ponchos, a fun version of nachos that I would recommend to anyone. I also have tried the appetizer platter which gives you a nice variety of flautas, nachos, and some other good stuff I can't remember. My sister loves the crispy tacos. I've always had good service at this location. Every time I come, they super busy and if you can give good service in the busy times, I think that speaks well of your service. Great party atmosphere! Loud and fun place to go with a large group who want a good meal while having a good time. No call ahead seating or reservations, so we had a one hour wait on Saturday night prime time. Good thing we could go to the Field and Stream outdoor store right across the parking l I had good fajitas but they were a little thin on the beef and peppers, and a little too buried in onions. Onions are cheap! The hot fresh chips are great! The creamy chipotle dip is so good you will want to drink it with a straw!!!! I poured it all over the sides that came with my fajitas! Awesome! Chuy's sounded like a good choice as we were in the mood for some Tex-Mex. i ordered for a curbside pickup as we are still in quarantine times. I actually called in to place my order and that was very easy, although you do not pay over the phone and you pay when you get there. I prefer to pay over the phone as it is one less thing to have touched. Anyway, I ordered the chicken chuychanga meal with sides of beans and rice. The portion size was great, kind of big. It was still warm when I arrived at home. The flavor was delicious with a crispy tortilla covering. The only thing I would add is maybe some lettuce and tomato to give it some extra flavor. The rice and beans were also very tasty! I will return and I would order this again. Chuy's is definitely the best Tex-Mex restaurant in all of Ohio, and that comes from someone that is originally from the southwest US. I gotta say I had reservations about Chuys. Not the table kind, but the worry kind. My last experience with a Chuys place was in Texas last year and not a good one. But We choose to move on and I am glad I did! I am very pleased to report a completely different experience and in fact the whole vibe of this place was great. The restaurant itself is very new and it shows - clean and bright and open. We had zero wait for a table for four of us at 1900 on a Friday, tho the place was packed! Could just be our luck maybe! Although our service was slow to get started (my only hit) once we did get noticed, things were oh so bueno! Nice kids meal with lots of choices and the grown ups menu is nicely varied. My son had tacos and they were solid and nicely presented and I had the queso and steak dip - thick and no skimping on the steak! One of my girls had chicken tenders, I love her just the same and we'll move on to my other daughter who had the 'kids' mini burrito. Not sure who does Chuys kids portion definition but this thing was BIG. It was also very nicely prepared and I had a bite - deliciously fresh! We took some of it home for sure. They have a nice table salsa that we found to be nicely spiced. You could taste the onions, tomatoes and peppers so cleanly. Primo! Others have commented on the bar taking a while - I surely noted that as well. My delish Chuys Sangria first and beyonds took a while to get to me but when they did they were refreshingly yummy! Overall a most redeeming visit and experience. I have such a love hate relationship with Chuy's that I am not sure I can put it into words. I always want to eat here, I constantly recommend it as a place to go and then 9 times out of 10 I am disappointed. Yet, I keep going back. Why? Two words: creamy jalapeño. Yes, the dip they bring you with their mediocre salsa. Only, however, if you ask for it. That initial act alone sets the tone for my entire meal. You know that your creamy jalapeño dip is the reason people come here, so why do you make us ask for it EVERY SINGLE TIME??! Enough about that, let's get into the food. It's fine, and that is about the best compliment I can give it. Sometimes the nachos are totally on point - crispy, equally portioned with toppings to chips and then other times they are soggy with hardly any meat on them. Fajitas are kind of a rip off since there isn't much meat to them so basically you are paying for tortillas, sides and over charred onions. If I could learn from my mistakes I would just come here for the happy hour where they offer free queso, but alas, I am sure I will come again for a $50 meal that is mediocre at best. read more
