I just ate the best Mexican food that I have had in years. The waitress was helpful to explain some of the entrees, and she was friendly and attentive. Another patron recommended the jalapeño dip, which was excellent. The Chicka Chicka Boom Boom was tasty, as were the sides. I am looking forward to dining here again. The menu is so limited because of Covid there were only a couple options.

I went here over the weekend the chicken Enchiladas was mediocre the red sauce was practically tasteless the rice and beans were good. Thr dessert Tres cake was delicious along with the margaritas. The waitress was attentive but in this epidemic was wearing her mask around her neck mostly. It was not covering her nose at all and her mouth was loosely covered the majority of the time. I was not as concerned as my guest I barely paid attention until they pointed it out which made for a quick exit. My family and I are from Arizona so we know Mexican food. And let me tell you.. THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB. It's the closest and most tastiest you will ever get to the real thing. But they also have their own twist which is awesome. The portions are large and the plates come out hot. Exactly how they should be. Long time customer of this location but it's gone downhill fast. Takeout orders taking over an hour wait time AFTER the pickup time. The staff will hang up on your calls, ignore texts, and the food is cold. This has happened 2 times recently and we're done. The food was okay the service was okay but there were flies and gnats everywhere which kept going on our food and in our drinks. Also she asked if we wanted creamy jalapeño dip and when it arrived it honestly was ranch dressing with jalapeños. My chili rellenos were good tho and the breading was good on it for sure. We finished our meal when I noticed something crawling across the corner of the table near where it meets the wall. I took a closer look. Yeah... It was a cockroach. Absolutely disgusting. I smashed it with my napkin before my date could see it. That would have been the end of the night if she had seen that. When you can see one out in the open like that it usually means there's a lot more hidden somewhere which tells me that this place most likely does not get cleaned very well at the end of the night. The staff is mostly well to do hipster college kids so I'm not real surprised that it's not getting cleaned all that well. They need to hire an exterminator pronto. I've never had a problem like this in any restaurant before and I'm completely shocked that a place that is this new is already this dirty. Never seen anything like it. The food was pretty average as other reviewers have said here. Nothing to write home about. I would even say that Taco Bell could give them a run for their money. Certainly not worth revisiting in my opinion. Service was OK but were were there on a slower night so can see them getting overwhelmed in that area. The volume level gets so loud you can forget about having a normal conversation so prepare to scream the entire night in order to get over the music and the din of the crowd. No thanks! read more

My wife and I got food to go since it is so busy being new. I can't say it tasted bad since everything I ate had almost no flavor. Tex-Mex food with no seasoning, totally bizarre. I had the Comida so I could try multiple choices, and it was all bland and tasteless. My wife said the combo fajitas had some flavor but was nothing special. All of our food was COLD, not luke warm but actually cold, and we waited for an extra 10 minutes for them to bring it out because it wasnt ready yet... They also hit us with a 6% "packaging fee", which there was no mention of, we noticed after we got home. The staff seems friendly but with many other choices around here we won't be back. Ok, so I have tried this place twice in the last two days. Once for lunch with a friend and once for dinner with my wife and a group of friends. For lunch we got right in at a bar table but we got there at 11:30. By noon the place was packed and the line was out the door. For dinner we were told 90 minutes for a group of six. No big deal, we all wanted to give the place a try so we grabbed some drinks and waited for our table. They have a variety of margaritas. All of them are in the $10 and above range. I had high expectations but they were just ok. I had the house margarita and the green chile infused margarita. My wife had the Texas martini margarita with Grand Marnier. All ok, definitely steep in price. They don't offer pitchers because they say they want your drinks made fresh. All of ours were prepared from a pitcher. The food is decent. Nothing exciting in my opinion and certainly not worth waiting 90 minutes. They just opened so I am 100% positive the wait will go away fairly soon. I had the Tacos Al Carbon that were almost flavorless. I tried my wife's dish which was the Chick Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas. They were good, nothing special. The other two couples with us felt basically the same way. We were glad we tried it but were underwhelmed. No wait, I would consider eating here again. If they have a wait I am going to any other mexican restaurant in the Dayton area because they are fairly comparable with this place. Except on the margarita pricing. What a great Mexican American restaurant! I've been several times and every time it seems to be better. The atmosphere is fun, with every room having a different theme and decor all seem to be based after retro american Mexican decor. The staff is all hip, fun, and very friendly! They all were tshirts with retro video game or movies turned ad for the restaurant with funny sayings. Now to the food which is the best part of the restaurants even with the fun decor and amazing staff! Let's just say my new fav Mexican place. My first 3 visits I got the fajitas and finally broke myself away and tried a burrito the steak burrito to be exact. It was huge and the steak was cooked perfectly not a tough piece to be found. Now the bonus... They have a free nacho bar mon through thurs! All the cheese, bean, meat yes that's right I said meat, and salsa you want for FREE before I believe 7p!!!! This allowed me to save half my burrito and keep enjoying the next day for lunch! While of course only making me want to go back again for more! read more

Just moved here from Texas and I was SO happy to see a Chuys! I used to go to the one in Arlington and have even been to the one in Austin while I was in college at UT. This is NOTHING like it... after an hour of waiting with limited/no seating, we finally were shoved into a dirty booth that hadn't even been wiped down yet.. then there was another HOUR wait just to get our drinks or even be acknowledged. Both of our drinks tasted like what I imagine watered down bath water tastes like, with no alcohol. I don't think the bartender knew all the ingredients in their "signature drinks" and of course we never got our queso until right before the meal, and by then we were out of chips. My bfs burrito was NOT cooked all the way either, he pulled meat out that was PINK and chewy in the middle, bringing a whole new meaning to "chuys" I've NEVER seen him not finish his plate until Friday night. Between the horribly slow service, the hostesses with her bra straps flapping out dangling off her shoulder and looking disheveled, the gross undercooked lukewarm food, over priced drinks with almost no alcohol, and the rare appearance of our mystery waitress...I can easily say we WONT be coming back here. Being busy is no excuse for undercooked food, bad alcoholic drinks, horrible service, disgusting tables and a lax in overall cleanliness ad service. I get that there is not a lot of TexMex or Mexican dining options here in Ohio so it will be busy to start but if it keeps up it won't be for long, you've got to be able to handle it and they clearly did not. read more

Really not worth the money, rude serves and cold food. I went in with my mother and sister to celebrate my sister and from the very second we got to our table everything went down hill. Our waitress was rude the whole night, took her a while to ask what we wanted to drink, and took her an extra long time to ask us what we wanted. When we got our appetizer plate we didn't get plates and when we ask for some she gave us a rude face and when she brought us some all 3 plates were dirty! So, don't go to the other Chuy's. This is the good one. The other guys don't know what they're doing. The food is straight up baller. I always get the shrimp tacos (crispy shrimp, soft shells) - and don't forget the extra creamy jalapeño. The chips are so thin and crisp. Like, cut-your-mouth crisp. And they're warm, too. Here's the deal. You need to order over the phone, because you're probably SOL if you want to eat inside after 5 PM on any day that ends in "y." They probably can't hear you over the phone, and that's whatever. You'll probably have to deal with a pretty long wait, but it's worth it. SO good. I'm a Tex-Mex kinda gal. I prefer Taco Bell over El Rancho any day. So, take this at what it's worth - but I'd be hard-pressed to find a Mexican joint I'd rather eat at in the DYT. read more

This is our first time here. It's a Tuesday night with a 50 minute wait so I hope to have great food tonight. We found a table over by the bar and our waiting for it to be cleaned off and order a round of drinks. I'm going to try to be patient because it's so packed and appears to be a little understaffed. Our first round took around 15 minutes to get. There is a "chip bar" but unfortunately everything is empty and know one has been over to refill it. So we got some chips and they are excellent. Thin and fresh. We ordered the house margarita's (5 bucks during happy hour) and they are some of the best ones I have had. They are really tart which I like. Ok. Just finished dinner. There were 5 of use and we ordered 5 separate meals. Unfortunately the food was just average. Everyone ranked their meals a 3 out of 5. Service for dinner was slow. Pleasant but slow. While this place seems to be the Mecca of Austin Landing and the waits are long, this place is totally worth it. Tonight was my first visit and I am thoroughly impressed! Our waiter was very helpful and gave us some great suggestions as well as tips! I went with the Deluxe Chicken Enchilada with Mexican rice, refried beans, and I also added the crispy taco and guacamole! I've had some really bad enchiladas before and wasn't expecting much, but this was fantastic. They gave generous portions and the food was phenomenal! The enchilada was cooked perfectly and wasn't over powered by the sauce. The sauce by the way is fantastic! It is just a tad sweet, but not too much and balanced the enchilada perfect. The crispy taco was good and I would order one again, I just found the shell to be a tad too big, but it was delicious. They have great guacamole and it went perfect with all the food. The Mexican rice was just okay, good, but nothing to right home about. The refried beans were fantastic! I haven't had better ones since I was growing up and a neighbor made them homemade. My friends were all happy with their food choices. The Baja tacos with shrimp were a huge hit with the table. The quesadilla was also another huge hit! The chips and salsa given out when you arrive are a nice surprise. The salsa was a tad spicy, but delicious. I also liked the other sauce, it was like a ranch based one. Overall we had a really great moms night out and I would gladly go back. This is by far some of the best Tex-Mex food I've ever had! I will say to get their early because even though it was a Monday night, they were really busy. Can't wait until my next visit to explore more of their menu! read more

My husband and I went for dinner tonight. I had been telling him how yummy Chuys was. Well, we sit for about 15 min before we ever got a drink. I convince my husband to stay. Our food comes and my meal is ice cold. I sat and watch my husband eat for about 10 minutes while mine was remade. My husbands steak for his fajitas was very chewy and fatty and the chicken was tough. Not that I was looking for a free meal, but no compensation was even offered for my meal being nasty. Needless to say I will never be able to convince my husband to ever step foot in there again and I'm not sure I will either. read more

I used to go to the Chuy's in Arlington Texas all the time I loved it! I was so excited when they opened one in Ohio but the service at the Chuy's in Austin landing was absolutely terrible! We sat down and our waitress said she was overwhelmed and we waited 20 minutes for her to take our drink order AND bring dip for our chips! Then she finally took our drink orders and said she'd come back to get our food order 20 minutes later someone else brings our drinks without the extra floaters we paid for so when she finally came to our table we told her we wouldn't be getting food just our checks. We spent 40 minutes for a drink ridiculous! Only reason I'm giving two stars is because I do love their jalapeño ranch dip! read more

I agree with what a lot of people are saying. I was so disappointed. I went with a large group for happy hour and the place was absolutely packed. The service was really great yet the food was bland and borderline terrible. The nicest thing anyone had to say was it was "OK". Its just not that difficult to find infinitely better Mexican/Tex Mex in Dayton - drive a few miles away and go to El Rancho, you will thank me. My expectations for the food were low anyway, I was mostly excited for the drinks. What is better than a margarita from a Mexican restaurant? My drink was 95% ice. It was gone in 5 sips. I sucked it up since I paid the $5 happy hour price but if I had to pay the regular $8 price - no stinking way. There is really nothing to recommend Chuy's. Even the nacho bar was empty most of the night and the beef on it was sketchy. Seriously - just go to El Rancho. read more

So I'm glad that Chuy's doesn't proclaim to be authentic Mexican but Tex Mex. although they do claim to bring recipes up from the Rio Grande Valley (I Haven't tasted anything that resembles that). I won't knock them to hard because of their disclosure......this place is comparable to Don Pablo's. So.... With that said, if your looking for traditional Mexican Cuisine, this is not it. This is TEX MEX. They have some pretty food for the money and the atmosphere is nice and kid friendly. Give them a try, my gringo friends will definitely love it! read more

Chuy's is one of our favorite restaurants locally (south Dayton). TexMex food is really good, service is fine most of the time, and their nacho bar during Happy Hour is great. So why not 5 stars? 2 criticisms: the alcoholic drinks are way too expensive, and the salsa isn't very good. We visited Chuy's for the first time since it's debut at Austin Landing. We first walked into the restaurant and it looked super classic with the decor. My only concern was their complimentary salsa/cheese bar which reflected to me as a child's food fight that had gone south of the border. What a HOT MESS! Salsa and dip was everywhere. Did anyone care about the contamination or the fact that it looked like everyone in the world had just spilled salsa all over front this salsa bar? First, we waited for an hour to get seated. Once seated we waited another 15 minutes before our drinks were taken. We than proceeded to wait another 10 minutes for drinks to arrive. Another 10 minutes before the sever took our food orders. After all said and done this was a two and half hour of dissatisfying service and lack luster meal. Overall the service was less than to be desired. To further continue with the lack of service and attention to customers we finally received our food and the server forgot to bring a the side dish out to us. My husband had to walk up the kitchen prep window to request it. Perhaps this restaurant was meant for less impatient diners than myself. It will be another year before we can go back to a place that makes their customers wait over and hour and a half to eat mediocre food. read more

I came here with a large party on a Friday afternoon and our tables were not ready yet even though there was a reservation made several days in advance already. The service was mediocre. There are plenty of beverage and food options to choose from on their menu. There is happy hour from 4 to 7 pm. The best part about this place is the nacho bar during their happy hour. It is free and self-serve! On the cart, there are chips, queso dip, taco meat, salsa, and refried beans. It tends to get really crowded on the weekend so I would suggest getting there a little bit early to avoid the wait. read more
