The chips & salsa were fine, nothing special, they all taste the same at places like this but the chicken fajitas were SO BLAND it's like they put zero seasoning in the dish and the chicken was dry as hell. I've eaten here many times and tonight almost everything was horrible except the water. Writing my wife experience: Tamales were rock hard masked by plate full of sauce. Sauce didn't taste fresh. Great service! We were greeted promptly, seated right away and had chips and salsa delivered shortly after. The salsa was great, but if you're not a fan of tomatoes, here's your advanced warning, this stuff has chunks of tomatoes throughout. Not the best on flavor, but we opted for the queso too and it was awesome. A tad bit salty, but after a few bites you adjust and it's solid. Hubby got beef tacos and the three were so good he went with one more. I got the steak quesadilla. The steak had great flavor and there was LOTS of it. There was also lots of cheese. Went to El Toro with my coworkers for lunch. Our waitress was super nice and accommodating. We where seated in the lower section of the restaurant since we where a group of seven. Seating was ok... it was close to the door and quite chilly. We ordered from the lunch menu. In not a too big of a fan of Mexican food but have to say that it was pretty good. I had chicken quesadillas. Overall we had a nice experience but I found it a bit awkward that some staff was hanging out close to the front door. Not sure if they where waiting for guests to come in or just chatting. The restaurant is in need of some fresh paint but was clean otherwise. read more

Back near my hometown there is a mexican food place that feels exactly the same as El Toro complete with the specials and value meals or whatever you want to call it. One thing that is different than the one back home is the attentiveness to service. From the time we ordered to getting our food it was only about 10 minutes. Now that's what I call speedy! I got the Cadillac Margarita and it was worth getting again! The chips and salsa are free and refillable as much as you want (ever just filled up on chips and salsa without buying anything? Rude. Just make sure to tip your waiters and waitresses!) I loved the grilled chicken fajita. Whenever we go out to eat my wife and I always have a competition to see who ordered the better food. My husband and I came to El Toro for lunch. The chips and house salsa were good. The salsa was flavorful but lacking heat so we ordered their homemade hot salsa which was great! My husband ordered the Fajita Texana lunch special and the portion size was huge, it would be a dinner portion at any other place. He said it was very flavorful and absolutely delicious. El Tori can be a hit or miss. The chips can taste great one day or stale. The salsa can be tasteless or bold. One things for sure the food only taste better when eaten at the restaurant. Got carry out once and it was awful. Portions seem smaller now and prices are higher. I'm beginning to favor the Mexican restaurants that are not a chain. Not my first choice to get Mexican that's for sure, just always easy to get a table since there are so many of them around now. read more

They have a sign near the entrance where they point this fact out. Everything else about this place is good though. The staff is very friendly and the Seafood Chimichanga I had was very good. My one complaint about the dish was that it came with only refried beans and no rice. Maybe it's american of me to want some rice too? I'm not sure. (To be clear, the menu did not say the dish included rice). I am not going to lie....I've dismissed these restaurants in the past for claiming to be authentic when we know they aren't. However, I must admit that they do a great job of bringing us Americanized Mexican food. The stuff truly is delicious. I really liked the Dayton Mall location because the restaurant is nice inside & clean. They have a nice little outdoor patio which is very nice. The food is your typical Mexican fare & the prices are pretty reasonable. My lunch special included a cheese quesadilla, shredded chicken enchilada & rice for $7.45. The food was really really good. We were seated promptly at a table that could seat 8 of us. Service was pretty terrible. After we finished our meals, we waited about 20 minutes and flagged down our waiter and asked for our check. In the next 50 minutes despite seeing our waiter and flagging him down multiple times, we did not get a check, nor any offers for drink refills or more drinks. (For a total of 70 minutes with no service) Finally, when he came by and told us that it would be another few minutes before we got our check we asked to see the manager. Our checks miraculously appeared in the next 30 seconds and we immediately handed our cards over. A few minutes later we were told to go pay at the front desk (who already had our cards) and a manger would be there. The manger stated that the table got cleared out of the system and they had do our checks by hand which explained the 1 hour wait. This restaurant was extremely rude on the phone when I tried to call and set a reservation for a group of 21 people. they told us to just show up and there wouldn't be a problem they would figure out the seating when we got there. once we arrived they were very unaccommodating told us it was going to be a 2-hour wait and when I pointed out to him that I had called the hostess had some pretty interesting things to say about me in Spanish to her coworker unbeknownst to her that I speak perfect Spanish. This is a restaurant that I will never ever come to again. we went to a different Mexican restaurant about 3 mi up the road and El Toro missed out on about an $800 tab. Fast, delicious and accommodating. This is our go to Mexican restaurant. Way surpasses El Rancho Grande. They always are able to serve big groups. I always know what I'm going to get when I go to El Toro. Friendly service and ok food. Portions are typical Mexican restaurant sized. Nice vegetarian options if you're not into meat. It isn't "really good" Mexican food, but it ain't bad. Vegetarian fajitas are my go-to & there are always a nice variety of vegetables presented. They have a nice little patio too at this location so if it suites your fancy, you can sit al fresco. This restaurant is large and nicely decorated. Bathrooms are always tidy too. I went here because a friend said it was "really good Mexican food". However, my experience was much less than positive. I ordered enchiladas, and to be completely honest they were terrible. When I got the food it was lukewarm at best, and it appeared that the food had already been prepared and just re-heated. I'm not a fan of the tex-mex places, but I heard good things about the food here so I thought we'd give it a shot. Today our server tried to take our order in a microsecond, which was nice, but we weren't ready. He stomped off and literally didn't come back for almost 10 minutes. When he did, he didn't say anything, and just stared at us. He didn't acknowledge our order, he just walked off. We were there about 12:30, and he must have gotten off at 1, so he was obviously trying to rush us. It was probably the least friendly and worst service I have experienced anywhere. The food was just okay, I could have saved some money by going to Taco Bell. It was as good as you can expect for food marketed as authentic. Our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area! I had the burrito California. It is a large burrito filled with tender carne asada (thin steak), guacamole, and pico de gallo. Spice intolerant people will think it is hot from the fresh jalapeño chunks, but I think it has a nice mild flavor. Generally, it is served with white cheese sauce on top, but I usually order it dry. The wait staff has a low turnover so they always remember us from the last visit and make us feel welcome. The only downside is that they don't serve horchata. read more

Service was slow and the waiter didn't really seem to care but that probably is more of a culture thing then anything else.
