I know it's Sunday, but man. Put my name on the list at 6:10. They said it would be an hour wait. I wasn't too surprised since it's Sunday and all the students are coming back to town this week. We probably waited 45 minutes until we were seated. 3 baskets of chips later, at 7:54, 6 of the 7 of us received our food. Our waiter, Tiger, was great. He kept the drinks and chips coming. I just feel like someone from management should have been walking around talking to people, comping drinks or appetizers, something. I've been going to Chuy's for about 25 years, and I will continue to go, but this was the worst. Just feel like management should have been out a little more. read more

My daughter and I went over and had lunch today. We shared a fajita mixed beef and chicken for 1. It was delicious. Tortillas were homemade and nothing to criticize. Very flavorful and food was delivered in a timely manner. The service was excellent! We had Lance as our server. Very attentive and took good care of us. Get there as early as you can, because they filled up quick. We got there right when they opened at 11 am. read more

I come here all the time. This particular location never takes advantage of the fact that it's mainly college students that eat here & ALWAYS provide great service to me. I also have anxiety so I usually have a headphone in while I'm eating (due to loud noises) & they don't seem to mind that I do, which I appreciate. I get a very simple order, 3 tacos with retried beans & rice. The food is a good price & I have yet to have a bad waiter. Today, Allan assisted me & he seems to be a kind soul & was very attentive. My friends and I went tonight for their happy hour and I am always impressed by their service and food but tonight it was even better. Selena was our server and she was absolutely amazing! I have been to the San Marcos location many times. The food is reliably good and I especially like their chicken dishes. However, I try to order off the menu only items without rice and beans. Both kinds of rice are bland and the refried beans are watery. My major complaint is how loud the restaurant is. Yesterday at lunch, I downloaded the app Decibel X so I could confirm how loud it was. Most of the time it was at 80 dB, but it did get up to 88 dB! According to the National Institute for Health, 75 or above can cause Noise-induced Hearing Loss. read more

I called Chuy's to place a pick up order around 12:40 on a Tuesday, and Allan answered the phone with complete enthusiasm and willingness to help. I pulled up to the to-go slot at around 1 and he had everything packaged up and labeled perfectly. He's awesome to say the least! I must say I got the true definition of "insanity"! After 3 plus years taking my family here with the hopes of it being different each time only to leave frustrated and screwed. Service continues to be poor at best and today for Cinco de Mayo, waitress tells us what the drink specials "are" to only get the bill and told she was wrong in addition to bad service. Ordered Top Shelf margarita on the rocks and a different server brought me a Mexicatini and argued with me they were they same drink - took three different waiters/waitresses to finally admit they were different and brought me what I ordered. Funny part as the party next to me had "voucher" for free meal at location for same reason. My fault as I know the definition of insanity - doing the same thing over again and again expecting different results. When Saltgrass opens next to them, I do not see Chuy's surviving unless somebody overhauls the attitudes and quality of service. I will not return ever again - DONE! read more

I will never go to the Chuy's in San Marcos again. This crazy lady lost her ring on her way being seated and she makes this huge scene for 20 mins to search for the ring. My group moved our table twice to help this search. The third time the lady asked us to move our table (mind you, we were trying to eat), we told her that we already moved it twice. About 10 mins later, a cop shows up (very polite) and asks to search us just so he can tell her that we did not steal her ring. So in the middle of the restaurant my group gets searched. After searching us, the cop of course did not find anything! The cop apologized to our group and went to tend to the crazy lady. The most embarrassing thing I have ever experienced! I do not blame the cop, he was just doing his job. I blame the lady and manager that did not make me feel better about the situation, after being searched in the middle of the restaurant with everyone starring at us. The manager seemed like this was not a big deal and did not apologize for what happened to us. I feel the manager did not handle the situation the right way and should not be a manager obviously. Managers should be able to defuse a situation without a guest being searched !!! read more

We went for my daughter's birthday on November 8th, a Tuesday night, at about 7:30. It took about 40 minutes (told it would be 20 minutes) to be seated but she wanted to try it so we waited. She order the green chili enchiladas, I ordered the Enchilada & Taco plate, my husband ordered 3 tacos. It took another 35 to 40 minutes to get our food. My daughter's enchiladas were over-the-top spicy and the waiter was kind enough to bring her a different dish (flautas which were "okay") at no extra cost. My enchilada sauce was very dark and tasted as if it had a huge dose of chili powder as that was the only flavor to it. The rice, as per all of us, was colored like Tex-Mex rice but it was very bland and there was no evidence of any bits of tomato or onion, therefore, bland. The tacos did not come with guacamole or sour cream while the meat had little taste. The refried beans were the tastiest item for all of us. I am a native of south central Texas and Tex-Mex is my favorite food. For my money, I would rather eat at Herbert's Taco Hut or Garcia's. We all agreed that this meal at Chuy's would be our last. The decor was nice but I went for great Tex-Mex food and I feel I wasted my money. read more
