Ciao Roma was a super fun time on Monday night! For a weekday, they were absolutely packed!! They have a small inside bar area with two high-top tables, some ledge seating, and a bar top. There's also a second-floor dining room, and they have outdoor seating in North Square that they share with Mamma Maria. I loved sitting at the ledge because it looked right out onto the street, it was perfect for people-watching! The bar area is first come, first served, so we were lucky enough to grab a spot. They were completely booked in the restaurant for the evening, so I definitely recommend making a reservation if you want to dine there. We had a few Sarti Spritzes, a Caesar salad, and the cavatelli. Everything was delicious!! They were also so nice and split the pasta for us without us even asking since they knew we were sharing. Sitting outside in the square in the north end felt like we were in a piazza in Italy. The ground is paved in old cobble stones, the buildings around are old and pretty, the while sun umbrellas with black trim are so European style. We had brunch on a Sunday. There was a very festive mood in the air. So many tables had bottles of prosecco flowing. The brunch was very good. Classics but with an Italian flare, likes eggs Benedict with prosciutto instead of Canadian bacon. I had avocado toast with poached eggs...but they called it Avocado Bruschetta. One egg was perfect...runny yolk, and one was overcooked...jammy yolk, but it was still delicious! We tried the prosciutto and peaches with arugula starter. It was fantastic! I've heard of prosciutto and melon, but had not tried peaches with prosciutto until now. It is a great combination! My daughter had the bolognese which was served on house made papardelle noodles. The noodles were very wide and quite thick which gave them a wonderful chewy texture. They were perfect for the chunky sauce. She loved it! The service was a little slow...we had to wait a while to place our order, and we waited a while for the check. But the service was very friendly and I loved that every server had an Italian accent. We had a lovely dinner here the other night. Its quite packed so I do recommend a reservation. The hostess station is outside across the street, it was a bit confusing. The interior feels like you're in an Italian nonna's home. Its very cutesy. We started with the arancini which we loved, they were crispy and the sauce was divine. I had a huge eggplant parm, which did not come with pasta though it didn't need it. I enjoyed it thoroughly. My friend had the gnocchi and she loved it. While walking around the North End, we noticed this beautifully decorated restaurant. The first floor is a bar with high top seating and the second floor is the main dining room. As soon as we sat down, our waitress introduced herself and brought over bread. We decided to order from their brunch menu and were very happy with our decision. We ended up going with the Caprese panino and the classic breakfast. The panini had Mozzarella di Bufala, heirloom tomatoes, basil pesto and arugula salad. The classic breakfast came with 2 eggs any style, bacon, garlic parm potatoes, and toast. If you order anything, you must get the garlic parm potatoes, they are amazing!! The service was great throughout our entire meal and our waitress constantly filled up our glasses. I recommend coming here for brunch and I look forward to coming back and giving their lunch or dinner a shot. read more

Brunch at Ciao Roma was such a cute experience overall. The interior is absolutely gorgeous!! very girly, pink, and aesthetic, perfect for a fun brunch vibe. It's definitely one of those places that feels special the second you walk in. The Sunday lasagna is INCREDIBLE and a must-order. Easily the star of the table. We also tried the ricotta pancakes, which were a little more tart than expected, but still really good and unique. And the espresso martini was solid. Service was okay, not bad but not amazing. There were a couple small issues: one extra drink got added to our bill that we didn't order, and my friend ordered a brunch dish with a side of potatoes, not realizing the dish already came with potatoes. We wish the server had mentioned that because she basically ended up with two full orders of potatoes. We started with the Caesar Salad and Bruschetta. Those two alone would have been enough for lunch. Very generous portions and excellent choices. For my main course I had the Shrimp Scampi. It was absolutely the best I've ever had. Lots of shrimp and capers, perfect combination ! Located in the North End, easy to get to with a great view of the North Square. We had the most incredible dinner at Ciao Roma, on the first night of our girls trip to Boston. We initially looked forward to sitting on the patio, but the weather was uncooperative and tables were set for 4, so we were treated instead to a warm, round table for 5 with a gorgeous window view of the North End square below. The appetizers were wonderful, and I topped my bites off with the delicious strawberry spritz, which was fruity and refreshing! Our amazing waiter, Silvi, recommended a perfect bottle of wine to go with our entrees, and we split the Braised Short Rib Rigatoni, Fusilli alla Vodka, and Shrimp Scampi. Seeing the pastas were literally steaming as they were brought to the table, and each of the sauces perfectly complemented the dish. We had to end the night with dessert cocktails, mostly because we didn't want dinner to end. My espresso martini was creamy, but still had the darker notes of coffee that I love. Silvi was welcoming, attentive, and helped our group navigate the extensive wine menu. Ciao Roma has been popular on social media, so my friends and I decided to book a reservation a few weeks ago prior. Upon arrival, we wanted to sit outdoors but was told the outside was for parties 4 and under, but they were going to sit us by the window. It was so cute! Our waiter, Silvi, was amazing. Provided us with wine recommendations and quick, attentive service. Our food was amazing. All of the pastas (short rib rigatoni, shrimp scampi, and vodka fusilli) were DELICIOUS. The martinis were so incredible as well, one of the best espresso martinis we have ever had. We were very full but the dessert options looked yummy. Genuinely no complaints! It has 2 floors so can sit a big party (I'd estimate up to 12 comfortably), which can be hard to find in the North End! Our server was great. My butternut squash ravioli was INCREDIBLE, I would 10/10 recommend that. However, my husband got the Sunday Lasagna, it did not say parmesan cheese in the description, but it came with a ton, and he hates parmesan (makes him sick). Was looking for an early brunch/lunch place in the North End as we were going to the feast. Randomly picked this restaurant because they offered a brunch but we all ended up getting the pasta dinners which were so good! I got the rigatoni and Sunday Ragu, which was homemade rigatoni, with a meatball, short ribs and sausage Ragu with homemade ricotta. I was hoping this was going to taste like having Sunday pasta with my family and it didn't disappoint. As someone who has worked across the hospitality industry--from sports bars to Michelin-level properties--I have never experienced or observed such disappointing service like this. This past Sunday, my siblings and I stopped in hoping to get a table for five and were immediately met with a dismissive attitude. The host/server made a comment implying the restaurant was "too nice" for our group, which was completely inappropriate and unacceptable. The experience at Ciao Roma wasn't dreadful; however, it was so underwhelming that I don't think three stars will cut it. I had the opportunity to try: - Bruschetta - Fusilli alla Vodka (with Ricotta option) - Maple Cheesecake Bruschetta = I am reminded of a Scotty quote in Star Trek TNG: "Laddie, I was drinking Scotch a hundred years before you were born. And I can tell you that whatever this is, it is definitely not Scotch." On the one hand, I have not been eating bruschetta for over 100 years. However, I think I have the wherewithal to say: "whatever this is, it is definitely not bruschetta." I don't know what they did with the tomatoes, but they were as sweet as though they were fruit! (Disclaimer: I know tomatoes are botanically fruits, I am speaking in the culinary sense. Also, bite me!) This sweetness completely overtook the delicate interplay for flavors in a typical bruschetta. Any acidic or herb notes were lost. Furthermore, the bread was disappointing. It lacked any substance or personality. It was a soft white loaf that did nothing but attempt to hold the tomatoes. Finally, there was the burrata. This was a nice touch, but considering the star of the show was outside smoking a cigarette instead of being on stage, it was too little, too late. It also doesn't help that it was a little oversalted. Fusilli alla Vodka = This dish was the was the highlight of the evening, with its simple yet well-executed preparation. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al-dente, and the vodka sauce was enjoyable. The pomodoro and breadcrumbs were nice touches, however, I would have preferred their presence be just a smidge more pronounced. The option of adding some homemade Ricotta was superb! It was of fantastic quality and added a whole new dimension to the dish. However, four dollars for a dollop of ricotta seems a little excessive. Then there was the parmesan that was offered by the server. I thought he would come back with a hand-grater loaded with a proper slice of Parmigiano Reggiano. Instead, I was given a small dish with pre-shredded cheese. I have to be honest; I am not sure if this is proper Parmigiano Reggiano, or the stuff from the ubiquitous green cylinder! Come on, folks! Olive Garden uses a rotary grater above your plate! For dessert, I was able to try the Maple Cheesecake. Alas, we are back in dull territory. The cheesecake was nothing to write home about, so much so I enjoyed the sauced bits of dough scattered about the plate more than the cheesecake itself! The gelato was pleasant, but not enough to salvage the dish. As a final nail in the coffin, the whole plate was cold, evidence of the dessert being premade and refrigerated along with the plate. Not exactly the peak of freshness. Some miscellaneous notes: Atmosphere: Ciao Roma does a fine job in creating a relaxing and somewhat romantic vibe. However, the soft rock playing cuts against that. Whoever made this decision... why?! Service: The service here was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Food did not take very long to come out either. Prices/value: Other than $4 for a ping-pong ball-sized helping of Ricotta, I felt their prices were more-or-less in line with what I'd expect in the North End. The portion sizes were also large enough to be comfortably satiating. Bread served at start: An echo of the bread with the bruschetta: uninspired soft, and crustless. Hey, oil was good though! Thus, there was nothing about the experience to coax me into a return visit in the future. Even though the pasta dish was solid, it's the North End.
