Tried Pappare for the first time a few weeks ago and very happy with the decision. We wanted to try a new spot, and we happened to land on this one. Portions are just right in my opinion. Everything tasted fresh. Started arancini and bruschetta - both were tasty! Chicken parm with house-made pasta hit all the right notes. Shrimp scampi was very good, not overly garlicky, good size shrimp. Chicken risotto came with a generous portion of risotto and chicken cutlets in a marsala sauce. Saved room for dessert amazingly, and couldn't pass up the cranberry bread pudding, which was fantastic. Perfect balance of sweet and tart, with vanilla gelato to tie it all together. This was our first meal after landing in Boston, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. I wanted to find a great neighborhood Italian restaurant and Peppare absolutely hit the mark. When we first arrived, the restaurant was fairly quiet. As we settled in, though, there was a steady stream of people stopping in for drinks, and by the time we were leaving, the place had noticeably filled up. The crowd seemed to be mostly locals, and I got the sense that many of them were regulars working their way through the menu one visit at a time. That's always a good sign. We started with a salad that was beautifully prepared. It wasn't overdressed, just lightly tossed with a delicious vinaigrette that let the ingredients shine. For our mains, the chicken parm was excellent--crispy, flavorful, and comforting without feeling heavy. The gnocchi was equally impressive. The dumplings were tender and pillowy, and the pesto tasted incredibly fresh, as if it had just been made that day. It's a simple dish when done well, and this version was done very well. For clarity this was a delivery order less than two miles away from my hotel. I fully realize and take into account that delivery will never be as good as the restaurant experience. Ordered the spring roles and chicken with vodka sauce. The spring rolls are a fun, inventive appetizer. Great concept but the texture was off. Lacking something. Maybe more cheese? The chicken and vodka desperately needed salt and the chicken was overcooked and not breaded as depicted in the pictures. Pasta alone was a great texture and a nice spice level. The order came with bread which would have been an appreciated bonus but it was simply sliced, cold bread with no butter included. Just unimpressive bread. And HUGE pet peeve as a traveler....despite asking for utensils TWICE....none included. Not even a napkin. So frustrating. read more

Good, solid food that was enjoyed after a 3 hour walking tour. Having lived in NY, I knew what flavor I was looking for. I had the Carbonara and my husband had the frutti de mari. The carbonara was delicious. Authentic? Not exactly. Take out the onions and use real guanciale if authentic is the goal. However, the carbonara was delicious and it really hit the spot. Flavors were well balanced and the service was hospitable and friendly. If you're looking for a quiet, cozy spot without the frills and price tag of the more popular places, this is it! read more

Definitely try this restaurant the next time you're in the north end of Boston. We had the Veal Amalfi and the Vela Portofino. Both dishes were excellent, as well as the complementary bread that is provided. We both had a glass of excellent red wine, and at $14 per glass, that is a bargain in Boston. The weight staff is very attentive. We went on a warm day and they opened the windows on the shady side. There was a very pleasant breeze and we felt like we were dining al fresco. Their bar is not very large, but there were several patrons enjoying it as we left. Only regret is we do not have room for dessert. read more

We celebrated my birthday by going to dinner at Pappare Ristorante & Bar located at 360 Hanover Street in Boston, Massachusetts. We had never been to this restaurant before so we were even more pleasantly surprised by the delicious food and the "happy to serve you" attitude of the servers. It is now one of my favorite restaurants and I know we will return each time we visit Boston. It is a comfortable atmosphere without being pretentious so dress comfortably and be prepared to eat! Everything was perfectly balanced nothing was overpowering. I will say this place stands up to every other spot in the north end. Ordered the clams in white wine appetizer. The clams were full of sand and the bread was a grocery store style scala. Anywhere else I've ordered this it arrives with some great grilled sourdough not toasted white bread. No atmosphere and staff that literally could care less. read more

1st off, I'm not sure if this place is just a hidden gem or not but every single place in Boston was completely booked for reservation and this place could fit us in on a last minute Italian crazing needing to be satisfied. The service was great, the waitress was super knowledgeable, accommodating & just pleasant. I wasn't too hungry so I went with two appetizers. I'm a lover of eggplant so I picked the Eggplant Modugnes & chicken parmesan spring rolls. The Eggplant Modugnes wasn't amazing but those chicken spring rolls were pretty outstanding and I kind of wish I would've gotten a double or triple order of those beauties. Wife & daughter really enjoyed their meals as well. My wife had traditional spaghetti with Bolognese sauce instead of a meatball. Both the cocktails that we got were outstanding. She had an amaretto sour, which is super easy to make but it gets messed up all the time and this place nailed it. They had a specialty old-fashioned and it was delicious. read more

My boyfriend and I got last minute reservations here this past Friday. I made them in the parking garage before walking over and luckily they had a few spots left for around 8. We walked in about 15 minutes early and they were packed. It's not a massive space so I would say to come closer to the within 5 minute mark of your reservation. We had some wine at the bar while waiting. My boyfriend got a white wine and said it was really good. We were sat right after 8 in a cute little corner booth. It was a little loud at first, but started to simmer down about halfway through the meal. Our server was Olivia and she was great; very nice and attentive but not hovering or rushing in any way. We got the chicken Parmesan spring rolls (because when am I going anywhere that has those!?) and the arancini. We really loved the spring rolls and the sauce. I would absolutely order those again and they are very fun. I didn't like the arancini - as a disclaimer, neither of us had ever had arancini, but were interested. The taste was good, but I wasn't a fan of the texture. Olivia did ask about this because we demolished the spring rolls and most of the arancini were left. We let her know it was our first time trying it and we just weren't fans of it. My boyfriend got the spaghetti vognole and I got the chicken Parmesan. He said his was amazing and very lemony. I absolutely loved mine. It's a very large portion that I could not finish, but it was delicious. The breading on the cutlet was nice and crispy - not oily & the pasta was cooked very well. We did also get dessert - the lava cake which came out so hot and it was perfect with the vanilla gelato. I will most likely be back to try more things. I went the other night and it was not what I'd hoped. With all the 5 star reviews I was shocked I hadn't heard of this place. I've been eating in the North End for fifty years. We sat right away at the window which was nice. Negroni's were a good start as was the bread & olive oil. We ordered the Burrata which was very tasty but lacking the presentation you might expect from an Italian restaurant. My wife got the Pesto Gnocchi which was light and absolutely delicious. I got the lobster ravioli which I was not fond of. It was made with sauted onions which was very odd. I was hoping for the typical New England cream sauce with pieces of lobster over the top. However, the biggest disappointment was the wine list, or lack there of. Not a single heavy hitter from any notable region of Italy, and what they did have (mostly Cabernet Sauvignon) was terribly overpriced. read more

Hands down the worst food I've had in Boston. I'm actually convinced that all these 5 star ratings are bought. We had a table of 6 and none of us were happy with our food. Huge lack of flavor across the board, two dishes were cold. Overall ambiance was fine and the service was ok but the food was a huge miss. I know they claim to be a scratch kitchen but it really seemed like the food came out of the freezer. 6 dishes came out in less than 10 minutes, there is no way that everything was made fresh. read more

Pappare Ristorante was a fantastic stop in Boston. My wife and I tried another restaurant but they had an hour and a half wait, so we decided to walk around and found Pappare. Immediately we were greeted by a very nice staff and they made it so this visit was enjoyable. We selected this restaurant for a birthday celebration. I read all the reviews and was really looking forward to it but we had a mixed experience. First, the positive - the food was very good. My partner had the veal parm - which he is quite picky about - and he said it was excellent. The pasta that came with the parm was just ok. I had the arugula/beet salad and meatball appetizer as my meal and both were very good. The not so positives for us were the atmosphere and the pace of the dining experience. We were a party of two and were seated next to a party of 8 - who were very loud and we were sitting really close to them in the small space. The noise from this large party dampened our experience. While our server was efficient, I can't say we felt overly welcomed - he seemed focused on just taking our order vs ensuring a nice experience. We were shocked when the food we ordered literally came out in 5 minutes. We went hoping for a leisurely, relaxing dinner birthday dinner. Our whole dinner was done in less than an hour.... read more
