Stopped in on a Tuesday night around 6-6:30. Place wasn't busy and we were sat immediately and our drinks came in quick order. The complementary chips were made on site, and very good. The salsa was tasty too. They only offer the first basket for free, but that's not a problem for me because otherwise I tend to fill up on that before my meal even arrives. My girlfriend and I decided to split the molcajete and we were not disappointed. It came out piping hot in a stone bowl and it was one of the tastiest things I've ever had at a Mexican joint. It was definitely enough for 4 meals and we ended up enjoying it for lunch the next day as well. I will have no problem coming back here and trying the rest of their menu... that is, if I hold myself back from ordering the molcajete again! read more

Thank you for this deliciousness in my neighborhood! It's good, it's fast, it's cheap, but not "paper plate" cheap if you catch my drift :) I've been a few times now and am so happy to have discovered this hidden gem (with a parking lot!) on 2nd street. I'm not sure what Cielito Lindo means but it's probably something like "Super Yummy Goodness That I Want to Eat Everyday." I've tried the steak and chicken tacos which are pretty decent. The enchiladas were tasty as well. Free chips and salsa and a full bar. I can come here with my friends with kids too because it's loud, they have a kids menu, and they have booths. Came here on Cinco de mayo- based on all the great Yelp reviews. It was pretty empty, although it was a Sunday night. I opted out of a margarita since I had to work early the next morning, so that's on my to-do list next time I come. Their chips and salsa are soo delicious! If you have ever had Chili's salsa, it is very similar. My guy and I ordered the molcajete for two and a chili rellano. The molcajete- what a great deal- sooo much food! And it tasted amazing- we took about half of it home and it tasted even better the next day. Their flour tortillas are some of the best I have ever had- obviously they make their own. The chili rellano was pretty good as well. Service was quick and friendly. We didn't really have one server, everyone there was serving our table, which amazed me since they were still so organized. My boyfriend and I stopped into Cielito Lindo after touring the Milwaukee Brewing Company, and were pleasantly surprised. Outside, Cielito Lindo doesn't look like much, but trust me the food is awesome. We started off with a pitcher of house margaritas. Nothing special, but you could definitely taste the tequila, which was a plus. We added an order of guacamole to the complimentary chips and salsa, and it was just okay. It needed something extra-- very plain and kind of bland. The salsa they serve is delicious though! A little bit of a kick but not so hot you'll burn your mouth. I ordered the enchiladas rancheros and my boyfriend ordered the burrito. The burrito was HUGE. Probably the biggest I have ever seen anywhere (that's what she said). He said that he enjoyed it, and the bite I stole from him was delicious. My enchiladas were some of the best I've ever had. They were seriously so so good. There was plenty of melted cheese on the top, and all of the flavors were right on.There were bThe enchiladas themselves weren't too spicy, but that was easily fixed. I was craving a margarita and some meat smothered in cheese. Cielito hit the SPOT! I can't remember what exactly I ordered, steak with cheese, onions, peppers, deliciousness. Definitely a win! Husband ordered his usual shrimp diablo, the sauce was sweeter/almost bbq-ish than the usual. It was good, but did not pack much heat. I ordered the Gold margarita and asked them to go easy on the triple sec, I think they went easy on the Patron instead- I felt a bit cheated. They have fried ice cream! I very much enjoyed cielito lindo. I don't understand why they are not busier. In my opinion the food is better than botanas but botanas has an edge in size and bar atmospere. I'd rather listen to music in background than univision too but it was early and not busy. I'll let it slide on a tueday. Went there with my girlfriend on 6:30 on a Saturday night and within twenty seconds we were seated. Received our drinks about a minute after placing them with the server and received the food about 10-15 minutes after ordering. Great atmosphere and great food. What a nice restaurant in the Walkers Point area of Milwaukee. I have been eating here for years, at least once a year traveling all the way from Phoenix. So I have had a bit of Mexican food, and can vouch for this place being legit. The service is impeccable, the food is delicious, the drinks are strong. It's just the comfort food fix I need, especially on the road. Had the sour cream enchiladas one day, and the chorizo scramble the other day. Having read a Shep Exp short order on them a while back, I was in the area and excited to see what all the fuss was about. Milwaukee is too famous for putting all sorts of adoration over every mom and pop mexican place, and CL is no different. You walk into a one room (small) restaurant with bar. part of the main wall is covered in said adorations from local publications, giving the impression you might get something amazing or outstanding or different than the other 12 of the same type of restaurants in the surrounding 3 blocks. Its quaint enough; a little run down looking, a little loud. I ordered guac/chips, and the 3 steak taco meal- with beans and rice. They threw in an extra cup of salsa for good measure too. The steak on the tacos was strangely savory and sour at the same time. I ordered them traditional- with cilantro and onion, and just enough of both were on the tacos. The beans left much to be desired = runny slop in between full sized beans. The rice, was rice. Nothing about this meal yelled 'award', or lengthy praising article. I wish i didn't have to mention it, but 4.5 hours later, i was sick from this food. I never like to be sick, and I am sure you don't either. Reconsider your desire to check out CL. 'pretty sky' en espagnol does not a pretty meal make. read more

Date night, last night! PERFECT! This place has such a bright and colorful atmosphere. The servers are friendly and charming, too. The restaurant is spic-and-span (always a good thing!). The food was crazy good!! We enjoyed the chips and salsa (of which they provide a mild and spicy salsa....num yummy!). Might I suggest the Enchilada Rancheros?!?! We came from Chicago to visit Milwaukee and we wanted to stop by and eat at a Mexican restaurant. The food was okay. Not the best but it was decent . The waitress who got our order wrong insisted that I ate what she brought me. She told the cook that I didn't like spicy food and came back and said what I ordered was spicy. I never stated I didn't want spicy . She asked me to just taste it and I told her I didn't like chilaquilles rojos and I wanted verde chillaquilles . This review is based on the service I received . Sometimes I don't want to go straight home from work, I want to go to Walker's Point and eat some Mexican food. I first noticed Cielito Lindo on my morning commute one day and came back that evening to try it out. I ordered the lengua en salsa verde (a version with salsa roja is also available.) I pretty much order beef tongue at any Mexican place that looks pretty good and actually has it on the menu. Cowlitz Lindo's didn't disappoint. The portion was good-sized and I also had a couple of tasty and reasonably-priced margaritas. I went back and had the pollo en mole, which is another dish I tend to order when I find it on menus because it's mostly only found at authentic Mexican restaurants and because there are so many different variations on mole. This proved to be a good choice as well, with tender chicken, and the portion was even huger than I remembered. I took half of it home. So many of the dishes are the kind that make good leftovers, though, so that's not a complaint. I know I have some more exploring to do when it comes to Mexican food in Milwaukee, but Cielito Lindo is a standout so far. read more

Ordered a simple ala carte 1 fish and 1 shrimp Taco. Comes with complimentary salsa and chips. Salsa was just spicy enough and had fresh tomatoes. I liked it. Chips were good too. The fish taco was lightly breaded bit fresh. The flour tortilla co.plimented this perfectly. I normally do not like breaded fish on my tacos bit this was very nice and cooked well. DISCLAIMER: This review is solely based on the late-night experience. I have never been during daylight hours. They are open late (Friday and Saturdays only) and they provide sustenance for you after drinking all night at the bar buffet that is Walker's Point, which is a huge bonus because there aren't too many establishments that serve food after 2am. I can't say that their food is my favorite, but like I said, if you need late night eats, this is the place to be! Traditional free chips and salsa appetizers are brought to the table immediately! And water...all the water! Although, I can't say the wait staff is as prompt as the chip delivery which mind boggling to me because we were, on the night of review, 1 of 4 tables being served. Their burritos are generously packed with meat but the accessories (lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, etc.) are slim pickings and that makes me sad. I guess it sounds great if I wanted a meat stuffed tortilla. I love a good burrito that you need foil to keep the guts in, but these are not those kind. As a note, I've been spoiled by California-born burritos, so I'm sure there is nothing that can be done to satisfy my high maintenance burrito needs. And let it be known, this will not stop me from finding the next-to-best-thing burrito in Milwaukee and/or Wisconsin and I gladly accept recommendations! But when I do, the world of Yelp! will know. In conclusion, thank you Cielito Lindo for taking a chance on the drunk, sleepless people that need nothing more than a heavy dose of calories to sober up. Do you need a Mexican breakfast at 2 am? Well, if you do, you can get it here, and it is pretty good stuff. The salsa and chips are solid, and the salsa is quite good. I have a thing for Juevos a la Mexicana at 2 or 3 am and what I got here made me very happy. The tiny little flour tortillas were cute and reminded me of the tortillas along the US-Texas border where my father's family came from! Credit card ok. Parking lot. Quite possibly the best, and most authentic, Mexican food I've ever enjoyed in Wisconsin. I am yet again pleasantly surprised by a hidden gem in Milwaukee. Nice, comfortable place for lunch and I'm sure it's just as good for dinner. A colleague of mine brought me here for lunch yesterday and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and delicious food! I ordered the Nopales con puerco (pork cooked with cactus in a green sauce) as a lunch plate and it was perfect! Portion size was spot on (I was full all day!), flavors were perfect, the corn tortillas were hot, pliable, and tasty! The rice and refried beans added a solid base to the dish and the nopales con puerco was outstanding! Such a wonderful combination of colors, textures, tastes, and smells. Started up on a project here in MKE and we stopped by here for lunch one of the days this week. really cheap options for lunch and really great, fast service. Food is of good quality and really enjoy the options they have. We ordered a side of the grilled jalapeno peppers and they were great - great add of heat to any of your dishes - I would recommend. Did not try any of the desserts, but like good MKE fashion - they have fried options. Also, they give you free chips and salsa to munch on while you wait for your meals - wonderful. I took a couple of days to write this review because I was not at all pleased with our trip to Cielito Lindo. At first, I was convinced that other Yelp reviewers had led me astray. But honestly, I think I just had different expectations that were in no way met. [Decor] The interior is brightly painted and brightly lit up, and it feels more like you're in a cafeteria-type setting than a restaurant. [Drinks] I tried to order a Herradura margarita, and the server had no idea what I was talking about. She didn't know that Herradura was a type of tequila -- she thought that I wanted some kind of fancy mixed drink. It would have been fine if she didn't know what it was, because a bartender surely would have. Except... there was no bartender. After settling for Patrón silver, we watched as our server left the table and went behind the bar to make the drinks herself. It took ten minutes for her to get our drinks -- and water -- to us. The margaritas terrible. Simply awful -- seriously, you know they're bad when Conejitos has better margs than they do. Plus, they were served with a lemon instead of a lime. Seriously? You don't even know how to serve a margarita at a Mexican restaurant? And why doesn't Cielito Lindo staff a bartender during dinner hours? Bad. Not to mention that each margarita costed NINE DOLLARS. What a waste. [Service] The server who made our margaritas never came back to our table. Instead, a much less awkward server took over for her, and she was very nice. Overall, everyone seemed really standoffish. Our second server gave us small smiles, but no one else really made eye contact or really seemed to care about what went on at our table. No waters, for instance. [Food] I ordered the fish tacos and S. ordered a combination of some sort. He said his food was okay -- nothing special. The fish of my tacos was meh -- lots of breading, not a lot of flavor. The beans weren't terrible, but they weren't spectacular. I like to relax when I eat out -- have good service, palatable drinks, decent ambiance. OMG, this place is delicious!! We came in from out of town to see a brewer game and stopped here before hand...I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with french fries (a California thing) and it was the best thing I have had since I lived in California.
