One of my favorites for Mexican food! I recently had dinner with a friend here and was thrilled to see Quesabirria newly available with choice of beef or goat birria, and I chose goat. I would have liked crispier corn tortilla shells, but the meat was tender and delicious, and the consomme was also very good! Rice and beans were solid. I forgot the the rice has bits of carrot and peas, which did not add to nor take away from the flavor of the rice. Service was good. This place will stay on my short list for Mexican food. read more

I can't get over how amazing it is. The meat and sause is so juicy and flavorful. And you can't go wrong with their beans and rice. There horchata is top tier, little pricy but worth it if your craving it. I've tried a bunch of different places and this is the best. As far as seating goes, staff is pretty friendly, but what's really cool is the way clouds are painted on the ceiling and how colorful it is around. This place has their own parking lot as well. My first time trying this Mexican restaurant. They were bust but it wasn't packed, which is nice. Everyone speaks Spanish there, which is nice! It has a mom and pop feel to it! They serve chips and salsa to start. The salsa was spicy and I quite enjoyed it. I just decided to order some tacos. I got one fish, steak and 2 al pastor. I loved all the tacos. They were delicious. I'd definitely return. A lil family came in selling cheese pie and I thought that was so interesting! I've never had a cheese pie. And they were literally walking around with an authentic pie basket! This was the first time we dined at this restaurant, and we were pleased to see that most of the other guests were from the neighborhood and seemed to know the servers well. Since the restaurant appeared to be known for its tacos, the three of us ordered two plates of tacos (each with 3 tacos) and one plate of shrimp fajitas. The 6 tacos in the two taco plates included seasoned pork (pastor), chicken and chorizo, which were all tender and very tasty. The chef mistakenly gave us a steak taco instead of the pastor taco we ordered, but the server immediately gave us a pastor taco when we explained the situation. So, we also got to taste the steak taco, which was also flavorful but a bit dry and chewy. The shrimp fajitas dish (Fajitas de Camron) was my favorite; the shrimps were perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful; the vegetables (mainly bell peppers and onions) had not only good flavors but also good texture (not overcooked in any sense). My first review, although now 11 years old, is still accurate. YELP likes an update from time to time, and that's fair so here it is. I've since ordered every choice on the menu and the best dish they have is their whole fried fish, it's outstanding. Also, they make a really good American style hamburger. The best deal here are the three different soups or their tortas. If you're vegetarian, get your tacos with only avocado, onion and cilantro, remember Mexican refried beans uses meat fat. Don't worry if your waitress doesn't speak English, it doesn't matter the orders are always correct. It is a bit difficult to convince them not to bring unnecessary plastic like straws, but it can be done because they don't like to waste. read more

Drove by the place on a lark. I was at work and Friday is my treat day. I like the goat on the sign. Let's give her a try. Being a tacos al pastor junkie, you know what I ordered. The chips and salsa were edible, but nothing like Botanas. Still "goated" as the best chips and salsa in Milwaukee. They offered two squeeze bottle sauces. One verde, one rojo. They both were very tasty and I was going to sample both on my taco platter. Rice and beans were very good. Platter came with grilled Mexican onions and a half of a jalapeno?? I would've ate the whole thing if they gave it to me, but they sliced off the tip. The taco meat was tender, savory, charred and garnished to perfection with cilantro and onions. I have never been discriminated against just to order food. The hostess wasn't pleasant at all barely made eye contact. But she was warm towards her "Mexican patrons" She kept asking if I was ready to order I said yes but then kept saying to wait (respectfully if you aren't ready just ask for a few minutes to finish what you are doing) The person who invited me ordered food to go after I did. But for some reason I had to pay upfront meanwhile my friend was allowed to wait to pay after food was made. I work in hospitality and have for 8 years and counting. This was unacceptable and I will NOT be spending my money there. And if you just so happen to be a real BROWN person (aka "black") I advise you not to waste your money on a place that doesn't value our business. My quesadillas weren't even cut when I made it home. One of my go to Mexican spots in the city! The tacos never disappoint and this place is always packed and for good reason! Atmosphere is homey and the servers are hard working and attentive. You can tell the meet is good quality - I recommend the lomo, carne asada and al pastor. Super flavorful and loaded. The tortas are also delicious and huge! The salsa is chunky and has a kick to it. Chips were solid but mainly used them to scoop up as much of that killer salsa as I could! One thing to note: they do not serve alcohol. I usually enjoy a nice cold Mexican beer with my tacos, so that is the only thing I would downgrade them on. But it's a good excuse to try an horchata or other traditional drinks. Came here after a late movie for the first time and it was veryyyy filling. I got the ground beef enchiladas in salsa verde which was extremely well done, the only thing I would say is that the beef was very fatty but it brought with it a lot of good flavor. The place was very festive and it was relaxed enough so that we could continue good conversation as well as the service was on point and direct and gave us time to order and made sure we had everything we could possibly need. The food here is authentic and I find it consistently very good. My husband is from Mexico and this is our favorite spot in the city. I typically get the chicken tinga quesadilla (they make it with Oaxaca Cheese, which I really like as opposed to conventional shredded cheese). Comes with sour cream, lettuce and a slice of avocado. My hubby usually gets an assortment of tacos or if we are going with friends the charola tray is a better value. My kid loves the rice and beans. In terms of ambiance, eating there feels like a typical Mexican restaurant experience. We have always had decent service while there as well. We do both-eating in and to go. Had an awesome dinner last night at Taqueria El Cabrito! I had been craving Mexican food all day and this totally satisfied my craving! The cutest little place on the South side and our server was so friendly! Always attentive and really sweet:) Let's start off with the chips and salsa- woah. It was super chunky, which I love, and even had a kick to it! Usually the complimentary chips and salsa are okay in my opinion, but these were awesome! The chips were okay but really they just were there to scoop that delicious salsa! I had the carnitas, asada and pollo tacos with avocado and they were AMAZING! I gotta say, the carnitas was my favorite one. The pork was crispy and seasoned perfectly. I loved the fresh avocado addition and the onions and cilantro made it so fresh! Loved the jalapeño and green onion garnish (be careful when trying the jalapeño ) the asada and chicken tacos were so good too and I drenched it in their green sauce they had on the table! My friends had the cheesy burrito with steak and the chorizo, ground beef and pastor tacos. SO GOOD TOO! Will defeintly be back here! Finally made it to Taqueria El Cabrito after hearing about it. There's lots of great Mexican food in Walker's Point. I hadn't really gotten much off the beaten path yet. El Cabrito is located just a few blocks off National on 11th St. The restaurant is unassuming but I saw a lot of people leaving with to-go containers. They do take credit cards, if that's a concern. The menu isn't fancy but it's fairly exhaustive. They're known for birria, sort of a goat stew that I've only had one other place in Milwaukee. There's a birria taco also, along with multiple other meat selections. The complimentary chips came with salsa but also a bowl of pickled vegetables--a carrot/onion/jalapeno mix. I definitely enjoyed the pickled vegetables with the chips as well as with my meal. I also got squeeze bottles of their red and green salsas. The chips seemed really fresh. I had an enchilada plate. The portion was fairly large. My salad came with slices of avocado, which was nice. The beans and rice were flavorful--those can be kind of bland in some hands. I want to try the tacos--or the birria or menudo--next. This is a little bit longer trip for me after work, but I'll have to come back. read more

Incredible authentic Mexican food at a very affordable price. The inside offers a very typical Mexican restaurant vibe, bringing lots of vibrant colors and traditional decorations. The chips and salsa were good but nothing too special. The entrees, however, were outstanding. When you're friend messages you "tacos?", this is where you need to go! I've been 4 times now in the last 2 months, and am considering increasing the frequency. This is a truely authentic kitchen. My Spanish isn't the greatest, but the staff has always been patient taking my order, and I haven't run into any mix ups on the outcome yet. I've only had tacos, but considering how awesome they are, I'm certain everything is amazing. They have a long list of street taco size filling options, including the more interesting options that I like. Crispy tripe is probably my favorite. The tongue and head are also solid. Ooh and the steak, and the goat. I don't think it matters what you choose, they're all great. They offer two options, traditional (topped with grilled scallions and cilantro) or American (topped with lettuce and tomato). I've had both ways, and definitely prefer traditional. Sit down service is great, and pretty quick. I've also popped in for a to go order, and they do a great job packing up the tacos to keep them warm and not messy during transit. There's a small parking lot on 11th, and pretty ample street parking. Now that I'm writing this, I'm thinking I need to stop in today actually. read more

Mi experiencia en tantos años en el Cabrito los tacos súper ricos!. Pero el día martes 29 de agosto mi esposa olvidó sus lentes regalo de su mami de años. Y bien pues en el camino hablamos para reportar el olvido con una mesera conocida de años que siempre nos atiende y nos argumenta que habláramos para reportarlos y que bien ella al día siguiente los guardaría. Posteriormente se habla directamente al Cabrito y el señor Carlos dice que si estaban y quedó muy formal que los guardaría en una bolsa con el nombre para que el día viernes los recibiéramos, se atraviesa Labor Day y pasamos hasta el día 5 de septiembre y me dicen las meseras que no estaban y una de ellas comenta que todo lo tiran a la basura otra que todo lo guardan y bueno el incumplimiento de lo formal paso a algo muy triste porque no es posible que el restaurante no pueda guardar los objetos olvidados de sus clientes teníamos una semana exacta, ahora los lentes estaban en perfecto estado no rotos no rallados etc. Mi esposa entre preocupada, triste y luego súper molesta pasó mal rato no por el valor del objeto sino por el valor sentimental. Ella está decepcionada ya que dice que no es posible que haya gente mala o que hayan actuado de esa forma y que no tengan valores de respeto hacia lo ajeno. Y pues bueno la molestia fue que se reportaron a tiempo y quedaron de guárdalos y cuando vamos por ellos ya nadie sabe cuando hay cámaras dentro. Triste realidad y pues solo poner atención de ahora en adelante para no olvidar nada. Ya ella no quiere decir ya nada porque repito es un lugar donde llevamos años asistiendo a comer los tacos y pues con la comida no hay queja alguna, solo fue este incidente. I had my first meal on Friday, December 30, 2016. I was "jonesing" for a REAL, TRADITIONAL Mexican meal and hoping for carnitas when I made the decision to check El Cabrito out, after reading some YELP reviews. I was not disappointed. I was initially impressed with the warm chips served immediately upon ordering out meal, accompanied by a large bowl of home made salsa that was excellent. We quickly asked for guacamole before ordering. IMHO, a good measure of a Mexican restaurant is their guacamole; both the preparation and the presentation. I was happy with both. Carnitas: Outstanding, though not as cripsy grilled as I prefer, but excellent nevertheless. The plate was served with frijoles, Spanish rice, grilled green onions, a large grilled jalapeno, sliced tomato, raw red onion, a bit of lettuce and a wedge of lime. No Pico de Gallo on the plate as is pretty traditional from where I was born and raised (Los Angeles), but I bet if I had asked, they would have provided it. Service was OK. I'm not sure, but I think the servers kind of help each other out and we had to catch the servers attention a couple of times for soda refills and extra napkins, not getting the normal "check in" a few minutes after receiving the meals, nor a bit later. Though they have a parking lot here, it is not large and we had to work at finding street parking about a half block down the street. This area is known to be and/or can be a bit sketchy during the evening, but at lunch time, I wouldn't worry about it. read more
