Okay kids add this to your list! It's now one of my very favorite Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee and that's saying something! I've ordered food from Jalisco several times now. Ceviche tostada, enchiladas ranchero, tacos, horchata. All of it was delish! Let me tell you I was yumming out loud! Truly! The ceviche is a great summer bite, nice and light, bright and refreshing. They have some of the best beans that I've ever had--NO JOKE! Most restaurants don't even try with their beans. Not Jalisco. These remind me of the delicious beans from that quintessential Milwaukee dive bar with the tacos served on paper plates and the dead plants hanging from the ceiling. That place has the best beans ever! And Jalisco has just as strong of a bean game. The barbacoa meat is super tasty good too! I can't wait to eat here again and continue to try new menu items. I'm especially excited to get their soups which seem like a house speciality. I love pozole but I'm also ready to broaden my Mexican soup horizons. Is menudo next up for me? Hmmm. Maybe. read more

Coming from California where we take pride in our Mexican-style foods, it's difficult to find Mexican food we like in Wisconsin. This is closest I've found to what we are accustomed to. Portions are small (quesadillas are 2-bites) but very very reasonably priced so just order two. No lengua or carnitas so I went with carne asada and it was very good. Just got delivery from this restaurant through Uber Eats(another great service ). Delivery was right on time, driver Salvatore was very gracious and burrito and tacos were Delicious and well worth the price. Will Definitely be ordering from this restaurant again. read more

I think this place is pretty good. The food was just as I expected and the waiter was really friendly and the horchata was way too good to only have one glass (err.... in this case, a plastic cup). I would normally put 3 stars for this place because it has met my expectations. My husband asked me what I wanted for dinner,we are NO WHERE near Jalisco, I wish I wouldve picked somewhere else, I ordered Carne Asada,it was AWFUL! It was tasteless,the meat was tough and it was advertised as coming with a salad,there was 1 tablespoon of lettuce and the woman I talked to told me " Oh yea,we have cut down on some food" HAHA..that wasnt even a biteful.The food was cold,i could not eat it,we wasted the money on this meal. **Disclaimer** I went at 2am so this could be a very biased review The tacos hit the spot! Probably even better then my usual Mexican spot (los comales)! We sat down and got the chips and salsa (nothing special to be honest). I got 3 tacos...2 de asada and 1 chorizo! The tacos de asada: the meat was tender and just slightly seasoned, the tortillas were slightly greased and were topped with cilantro and onion the perfect taco! A great taco, im from chicago so an authentic Mexican taco is what I'm used to! The other taco was chorizo. This one too was perfect, the meat was good quality chorizo with a good kick to it! The tortillas were as well perfect! They offered two salsa a red and green, very typical, i loved both of them! The green was spicy but delicious and the red was almost creamy but definitely my favorite of the two! With it i got an horchata. It was a perfect combo! Would definitely reccomend this place again and will most definitely be back after a night out! I'm pretty sure this place will still be great when I go back sober! I was in the mood for authentic knock your socks off Mexican food. A co- worker recommended this place. She claims she loved it. Well here is my take: The welcome staff was nice. You are allowed 1 serving of chips and salsa, additional servings will cost you. The service was fast. No kids menu...:( We ordered a steak burrito, which did not include rice and beans like the three taco dinner, but it looked huge. After cutting into it, there was more lettuce than anything. Tasty,but not in my top 5 of Mexican restaurants. I feel like we were shorted on meat... The tacos were OK, my favorite out of the 3 meat choices I picked was the pork. It was very flavorful and different from pork tacos I have had anywhere else; nothing special but tasty. My other choices were steak and chicken. No topping besides lettuce was included in the price of the taco, no creama, salsa/tomato's, or cheese... The waiter did not offer or suggest anything. The drink special was $4 margaritas . choice of flavors include, mango, strawberry, or lime. We chose the mango flavor... Good, nice size and there was a kick, just like we like it. There's nothing quite like discovering a gem on your own. I assume this is how Ferdinand Magellan must have felt. Taqueria Jalisco has an unassuming entrance, and breaks off into the to-go walk-up window with a large menu to peruse and the entrance into the main restaurant. The main restaurant has about 10-15 tables, and has the effect of a cafeteria where you seat yourself without the mean high school politics. The menu: The menu is simple, broken down into tacos that you can purchase a la carte or as a platter, burritos, soups, dinner platters, and drinks. The food: Let's just get straight into it! If you dine in, you get a basket full of warm tortilla chips, some tomato salsa, tomatillo salsa (green salsa), and a spicy red salsa. The tomato salsa is pretty basic, but tasted really fresh. The tomatillo salsa was really vinegary. But my personal favoriate was the spicy red salsa made from mystery red things. It was spicy but not overpoweringly so. It had depth that was great on chips, but even better on my tacos. I ordered 3 tacos a la carte: al pastor, carne asada, and chorizo. You can order it on flour or corn, with onions and cilantro (the only way to go!) or with lettuce. The carne asada was well-seasoned, and not dried out. The al pastor was moist and flavorful. It didn't have a strong pineapple flavor, but I didn't miss that! The chorizo was also moist and well-seasoned. It wasn't like the soft sausage I'm used to, but actual sausage chunks, so that was a pleasant surprise! Overall, I'm floored that I've finally found an authentic Mexican taco in Milwaukee. The drinks: It looks like there's a full bar and they serve both beer and margaritas. We ordered the horchata and it unfortunately was too sweet, and I'm almost certain they use coconut milk (which I hate...). Fast service, super cheap, filling, and authentic. The place had very colorful murals, nice tables and chairs with like wood paneling and just a Mexican dive for the most part. The water and chips with salsa came fast. The plate looked way better than what I thought my lunch would be when I first walked in.The Milanesa was just amazing. The rice was my kind of perfect and cooked with nice separate grains and seasoned. The beans were also really good, not to thin and warm enough to melt the cheese. The lunch ended up being way better than I imagined walking through the door and one of the better Mexican dishes I have had, good job. Service was super good in the beginning and my food came out fast and hot but with all the tables being turned at the same time and all the new food coming out it took a while to get my box and check so I could leave. Jalisco's is pretty great; I stopped here for lunch after biking around the near south side for a few errands. The portions are huge, so be prepared for that. I ordered the Enchiladads Suizas de Pollo (eh), but I've had better things previously so I'm not terribly worried about their authenticity. They appreciate a guerro(a) who knows what they hell they're talking about; so act like you've been there and know at least something about Mexican cuisine and you'll be fine. The Menudo here is EXCELLENT. Chips and Salsa are always fresh, but they charge extra for refills (which I think should be normal). Late nights get interesting as mentioned in other reviews; security, pat downs, shady characters, etc. For me, that makes the place. Woot Woot. Jalisco is known by many south-siders, like myself, to be the "after hours" hang out spot. They have a wide variety of spanish music to play from their juke box, for mexicans or not, while you enjoy a cold Corona and some tacos; particularly carne asada... Back in the day Jalico's was the place to go and to sober up after a night of drinking. Flash forward about 15 years later it's now a place to bring my daughter. We had just finished the Dia de los Muertos celebration in Walker's Square and I had a craving for a burrito baby. I call it a burrito baby because this thing literally weighs about 3-4 lbs. I chose the bistec burrito suizo. It's a huge burrito smothered in cheese and has steak inside. I must have sliced avocado inside too. It's a deal at $6.50. (this is two meals) They give you salsa verde and salsa rojo to take home. I also ordered a chocolate milk shake for my daughter and it was also delicious. Was very grateful this place was open late! Left work about midnight in a taco mood and this place was open and available and nearby. Walked right on in and we sat ourselves at a table. At the time it seemed like a very authentic place to eat with music, Spanish speaking servers, and the decor inside as well. Very well could be a family owned place, but I'm not quite sure. The downside was that the service took forever. Not in the sense of a packed restaurant at midnight when nothing else is open, but that the servers weren't at all motivated to get orders taken and in right away. I believe we sat for 10 minutes before we were greeted by a server, and there were only 2 other tables at the time, with 2 servers on. Once they came to us they were very nice though. The chips and all came out right away. Chips were chips not terrible or amazing but the salsa was overly watered down. Maybe it was the end of the salsa batch or maybe they thin it out themselves but it was too thin for my liking. Had good taste to it, no spice, but too watered down for what I am used to salsa being. I am a big taco fan so I went with 4 different types of tacos. Chicken, beef, asada and lengua. All tacos were delicious. Could have been loaded with a few more toppings but the taste was great and didn't need anything with them. Simple but what I was looking for. The asada was my favorite, but would definitely eat these again. Maybe timing we went in was a factor to the service, so definitely looking forward to trying this place again at a different time of day. read more

I think this place has some pretty authentic tacos. This is important to me as I've lived in Mexico for about a year and sometimes crave some authentic Mexican Tacos. They have all of the varieties: Tripa, lengua, bistek, y chorizo. They even have horchata con canela! A lot of places do not put canela in their horchata. Had one of the worst experiences of my life here. I am mostly blind and have a 7 year old guide dog. We have enjoyed Jalisco's in other locations and were happy to find this one when we were in the area and needed lunch. We walked in and the manager came over and said we were not allowed to bring my guide dog into the restaurant. I said --"she's a service dog, I'm blind, legally you have to let her in". This young man proceeded to tell me that this was a family business and they had the right to refuse us entry. Then he made some lame comment about how HE had a service dog too and he was not allowed to take it anywhere in public. WHAT?????? He said we could go back outside and order food to go from the window if we wanted but he firmly denied us entry into the restaurant. In the 6 years I've been using my dog, I have NEVER been denied entry anywhere. I was SOOOO upset. I called the cops and then left. The cops DID show up to the restaurant later that day and gave the manager a talking to--and then the owner informed this guy that he was WRONG! Still didn't fill my belly or help me calm down from the major emotional trauma. I will now never go to another Jalisco's anywhere, I am SO offended by this actual criminal act. read more

Jalisco's is like comfort food for me.... growing up, we'd go to a Jalisco's in Waukesha (same family/owners?) with the same menu and there's just something about a Burrito Suizo with avocado that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's not the very best burrito I've had, but it makes my heart happy. If you can pull yourself away from your standard fare, I highly recommend the caldo de camaron. I could eat gallons of this soup (and luckily... you can actually buy it by the gallon). It's served in a tasty broth with carrots, potatoes, and giant shrimp with cilantro and onion for garnish. Dip tortilla in the broth... it's near perfection. I haven't been here drunk, which is apparently the way to eat here... but as a quick meal on a Friday after work, we enjoyed ourselves just fine. read more

The last time i went to tis restaurant was about a month and a half ago. I used to love it here untill i found put they reuse the salsa from table to table. Was on my 2nd jar of salsa and found a wrapper and a dime in the salsa. I brought it to the servers and managers attention at which point was tild that i put the garbage in the salsa. Sometimes I believe that the food will just not fill me up the way I expect, but man was I wrong about this place. The food is just so delicious and satisfying! When I ordered my burrito dinner I was expecting a very small dinner, that was a big mistake, it could literally feed a whole family of 3. That's a real burrito not like the other places. There are several Jalisco's and all serve a slightly more authentic menu than the average trendy S. 5th and 6th Street spots. If you are in the mood for a large meal, get three or four people together and order a 2-person parillada. It's a lot of meat, grilled poblano peppers and onions and other delicious-ness. They also serve late night, so go after the bar for a torta de milanesa de pollo (a tasty breaded chicken sandwich with a light layer of refried beans and guacamole. If you never had it, order the agua de horchata for a drink - a very addicting drink made with rice, vanilla and cinammon. It looks like milk, but tastes amazing! Yum! read more

I ate the burrito platter with pork al pastor it comes with rice, refried beans and lettuce taste very good I expected spicy but did not happen but they brought hot sauce anyway it is MAN size which it was a nice surprice. This place is awesome. It's a little restaruant in the middle of a Mexican market/grocery store. The tacos are filled with cilantro and avacado chunks... there ridiculously good. this is our go to spot for Mexican, yes its in little Mexico but you knew that driving in to the area so why the shock on 3rd shift pat downs I'm not sure it is what it is, would you rather they be closed 3rd shift ? the world is sick they do there best to keep it safe for you 3rd shift people and staff ...and the parking ticket guy really? contest the ticket don't blame Jalisco ...now on to the food always good my mom loves the one's a I bring home after a night out ..i take her for lunch not a issue, we recently found sopapilla ...this was amazing and I will gladly be back to just have that as sadly I got it to go as there is never room for dessert and I got two bites before the family took it over ..don't let the review fool you its a great place read more
