Gourmet nachos. A nice stroll in mke's finest ghetto will get you here

I think this place is pretty good. The food was just as I expected and the waiter was really friendly and the horchata was way too good to only have one glass (err.... in this case, a plastic cup). I would normally put 3 stars for this place because it has met my expectations. I am bumping this place up to 4 because one of our fellow yelper colleagues smashed this place to smithereens and gave Jaliscos 1 star due to a parking ticket?! That's just unfair.

    Mango margarita. Pretty strong

I was in the mood for authentic knock your socks off Mexican food. A co- worker recommended this place. She claims she loved it. Well here is my take: The welcome staff was nice. You are allowed 1 serving of chips and salsa, additional servings will cost you. The service was fast. No kids menu...:( We ordered a steak burrito, which did not include rice and beans like the three taco dinner, but it looked huge. After cutting into it, there was more lettuce than anything. Tasty, but not in my top 5 of Mexican restaurants. I feel like we were shorted on meat... The tacos were OK, my favorite out of the 3 meat choices I picked was the pork. It was very flavorful and different from pork tacos I have had anywhere else; nothing special but tasty. My other choices were steak and chicken. No topping besides lettuce was included in the price of the taco, no creama, salsa/tomato's, or cheese... The waiter did not offer or suggest anything. The drink special was $4 margaritas . choice of flavors include, mango, strawberry, or lime. We chose the mango flavor... Good, nice size and there was a kick, just like we like it. Good job on the margaritas. Would I go back, probably not... But it was not a bad place to visit. Mucho basic, not what I was expecting at all.

Tortillas were crispy and fried to perfection. The consommé was delicious, had me drinking it straight out the cup and was well seasoned, hot, and was in its own something to right about. The red and green salsas were also good. Red having a bit of kick, green was flavorful. I will say that I wish one of them had more heat to it but the acidity and flavors were great. The beef itself was so flavorful and tender, well seasoned, not to mention had the perfect amount in each item. Also, Onions and peppers on the side were cooked great and had me going back for more each time. Also, get the horchata, it was spectacular. This place is small but decorated to really feel like the owners, workers, really care and take pride in the establishment. It had a great ambiance that was full of people on a rainy lunch hour, and I can see why. As a person who works in the industry as a cook, the kitchen, which you can see when you order is neat, clean, and truly has the right feel of 'they know what they're doing and they're doing it well'. 5 stars, will be talking about this meal for a long time and spreading the recommendation to as many people as I can.

For our entrees, I got the taco truck dinner with pork pivil as my meat of choice. The meat was juicy, tender and had lots of flavor! The pinto beans had a nice smoky flavor. My boyfriend got the queso chimichanga. It didn't come with rice and beans, as they are inside the chimichanga. We both agreed, the queso was a nice addition to the chimichanga. I would definitely come back to try more of the menu!

The guacamole had a strong citrus flavor which I am a fan of and the salsa was complimentary! I would HIGHLY recommend the best burrito ($15) as they did not skimp on any ingredient, especially the flavorful pork pibil. My only qualm was that the rice was undercooked and slightly crunchy, but otherwise an affordable and tasty restaurant for a date night. The staff were friendly, service was fast (less than 10min to receive food after ordering) and the restaurant had bright and colorful furniture and decor which were true to theme.

It's Saturday and I'm thinking......Don Lucho!!!!!…read more The team has been up since late night roasting and boiling and creating the most amazing carnitas you will find in Milwaukee. Get here early - parking sucks, and suburbanites will freak out at the hood, but no worries Jesus is right next door at St. Josaphats basilica and will watch over you. And don't forget to take a tour of one of this country's most beautiful cathedrals. Right there by Don Luchos. You can eat here. Lots of long communal tables so don't be shy. Prices aren't cheap but this is quality. I usually get a pound or so of carnitas. They measure it out, it's steaming, and ask if you want it chopped. I say yes. It's wrapped up tightly and it will feed you all weekend. This meat is freaking amazing!!!! I pray they haven't run out of homemade tortillas, but like I said, you gotta come EARLY. Sigh. There's about 6 different amazing salsas to try. Smoky, fresh, green, red, hot sweet - I get two for the weekend. I consider a quart of menudo. I think about. Lamb, goat, barbacoa, chorizo - but I have enough. Too hungry to wait to go home, I sit down to eat. Two tacos - huge! The best was the barbacoa - tasty little carmelized deeply flavored meat bits. Hey - don't go expecting American extras like sour cream or cheese. This is the real thing. Warming: one taco will do you. Got a side of rice and beans - yum. Don Lucho is a treasure. It is authentic, mom and pop, and these are the businesses I love to support. For an incredible adventure and source of authentic carnitas, git yourself down to da south side ya day hair and ENJOY!!!!!!
