We were craving Tex-mex and Cielo seemed like a good bet based on reviews. Walking in, I was immediately struck by how small the dining room is when the parking lot is huge. Thankfully we got a table but after us there was a wait. They provide free chips and salsa but... They are those round, bagged type, and not good. It was a genuine letdown that made us skip the queso and guac. Hate to be so harsh on free chips but first impressions made us question the review we read. Thankfully the mains were better. Our server was attentive without hovering and was very friendly and welcoming. What we ordered: * Carnitas Tacos (8/10): The pork was tender and flavorful, served on solid corn tortillas that held up well. * Mole Enchiladas (7/10): The chicken was moist and the sauce had a distinct tang, though the profile leaned a bit too sweet for my personal preference. The sides were the sleeper hit of the meal. The refried black beans come in a crispy little tortilla bowl with a fried plantain, but the rice was the real winner of the plate. If they could just figure out a way to serve fresh, house made chips, this place would be an absolute powerhouse. Bathroom Review Single occupancy room. I ordered: Coca Cola $3.75 Street Corn: $10.00 Enchilada with chicken and mole The corn was only boiled, not grilled,. There was a lack ofi quality cheesed in the ingredients on top. This girl can tell. I boxed it up and will get more reviews from family. They'll probably agree that it's basic, nothing special. The chicken enchilada with mole was sadly lacking in flavor. I boxed it up. Maybe my teenager might think it's good, but I doubt it. Overall a very disappointing experience for any foodie out there. The drinks might be good but they start at $14.00 and only go up from there. I'm glad it's a local hotspot, but my lunch visit was underwhelming. I got there at @ 3:00 on a Tuesday. The restaurant was completely empty so I went to the bathroom, which smelled. Must have been used by an employee. Sorry folks, just saying. The food was OK but the waitress was the worst waitress I've ever had in 53 years of my life. I could've really skipped the bill and left and she wouldn't even notice that we left. That's how bad she was. We asked for more chips and salsa never got it when our food came. we were very happy that we found this cute Mexican restaurant in Braintree. Much smaller than you would think for the parking lot but the ambience is great. The food is absolutely delicious and the service was good. Alexis did a good job. Their drinks are not very pricey, and the margaritas are huge. Our favorite dish of the night were the steak taquitos. But honestly, everything was great. Their portions are huge. This place is really great. REALLY authentic Mexican cuisine the likes of which you won't find anywhere else in MA. They even let me order an authentic staple item I happen to love off-menu! The chips that they provide are even stone-ground! The one major gripe I have with this place: It seems like the owner might benefit from hiring outside of their friend circle because the guy behind the bar was pretty rude to me despite going out of my way to be friendly and complimentary. I'm betting that he's a close personal friend of the owner and feels he can say whatever he wants to a customer with no fear of losing his job. What happened??? Change of management? Owner? Staff? New menus were our first clue. Can't bend them open, sticky and dirty. Not an upgrade. They clearly don't wipe them down. L Missing our server who was always there. The new staff isn't it. Order one drink, received a different one more than one time. Drinks are unbalanced and missing items many times. It's just not good. Many of the items don't include anything extra any more. Like fajita has no cheese, no sour, no guac. Everything is a BIG upcharge. Good things chips and salsa still free. Many menu changes too. Missing some of the old favs. The past three times has been u asking for items that said they were included and never came. Having to babysit our order while we are out is crazy. It used to be full up with a wait and now it's not. I understand. Overall the food "can" be good still but overall prices went up like crazy and items aren't the same. The service is awful. We sit with empty drinks or missing items. No. Just no. I recently moved into the neighborhood and needed to find my new go-to Mexican spot asap--I'm super excited to say I think I've found it in Cielo! I visited on a Friday night around 6:30 and had no trouble getting a table, by the time we left the place was pretty full, but there was still no line so it doesn't seem like the kind of place where you should expect a long wait. Our server was so nice and definitely on top of things, the food and drinks all came out really quickly too. I'll start by saying Cielo has itself one impressive cocktail list, including at least a dozen different types of margaritas. I opted for the Habanero Pineapple margarita and really enjoyed it. That type of flavor can definitely be a risk--there's nothing worse than an overly sweet, artificial marg--but this was perfectly balanced and so tasty. My husband and I started with the Cielo dip (always gotta try the namesake dishes) and followed it up with the Enchiladas Mole Poblano and Tequila Shrimp Tacos. Everything was delicious, but the Cielo dip has to be the star of the show. It's loaded up with shrimp, steak, chicken, and queso and comes with tortillas on the side. It's so decadent and could have been a meal on it's own, but it's sooo worth the calories. Portion sizes were generous all around and we had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. They have a big parking lot , so parking is not an issue . It's in Braintree not in Boston MA. However the commute is not bad if you have a car , not sure about public transportation. However it should be accessible it's in a well traffic neutral spot , just google for public transportation from your area . The drinks are big and generous too . Inside it's well decorated leaving a fun ambiance. Think a funky Mexican restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Bathrooms were super clean as well . Service was pretty good . Cielo has indoor and outdoor seating and for dinner that day I sat inside. I ordered the Pescado Al Ajillo entree for $20. First to arrive was a complimentary basket of chips and a small bowl of cold red salsa. The chips were thicker and therefore crunchier than average and the cold salsa was ok tasting (3). The entree arrived about 15 minutes later and was a large lightly fried fish fillet with vegetables, tomatoes, onions and sliced avocado on top with some garlic butter drizzled over all of it. There was a scoop on Spanish rice on the plate too. It was a good tasting meal but I would have liked more garlic butter giving the meal more moistness. It wasn't a dry meal but would have tasted better with more sauce. I gave this meal a 3.5 but will round down for Yelp purposes. The salsa and chips could have been better and for some reason the air conditioner was on high that evening providing for a cold interior. read more

I was invited out by some coworkers for lunch and this place was suggested and I am glad that it was. It has plenty of parking which is hard to find in the Braintree area and the parking lot and exterior of the buildings very clean as well. When we went in side we were pleasantly greeted and told we could sit where we would like. The interior reflected the exterior in being very clean and nicely decorated . We had our drink order and lunch order taken and I had the California burrito and it was excellent, one of the best burritos I have had in a long time. I will say I did like the salsa but really did not care as much for the tortilla chips, but I don't rate a restaurant on just chips and salsa. Overall it was a very positive experience and I am glad I was able to try this place out as the food and service were on point. read more

What a treat! An absolute gem for Mexican cuisine on the South Shore in Braintree. Small, quaint, well lit, nicely decorated and perfect music. Plenty of free parking in their own parking lot. To start, my grandmother is from Mexico (Jalisco, where these guys say their parents are from) so I grew up with authentic Mexican food and often visited family there who also cooked. Thus I can say this place, like most here in Massachusetts, is NOT authentic. It's your run-of-the-mill tex-mex, which would be fine if they were honest about it and hadn't gone down hill over the years. That being said, I have eaten here more than once since they opened. Service is okay, but only when Yanni is around. Otherwise, I typically find my order to be incorrect or end up waiting a long time with no one checking in. While okay when they opened, food is absolutely terrible now. In recent years, it's nothing more than poorly put together slop with no flavor. I'm aware the economy has had its ups and downs these last years, but that's no excuse to cut corners everywhere you can. I felt the food was overpriced as is, but now it's even more-so. So disappointing. The atmosphere isn't much better. Not a fan of the decor (minor pet peeve so unimportant) and it's way too small for the capacity they try to cram in here. You're just about sitting on top of everyone around you. You'd think by now they'd have moved to a bigger location, but maybe they just don't bring in the kind of money needed to justify it? I very rarely write reviews for anywhere, but after abysmal experiences on six different occasions over the years, I feel it's time. Why six times if it's so bad? My friends for some reason liked this place and I used to bare it for their sakes. (Maybe it was the drinks? Not a fan myself, but ymmv.) However, that's liked... past tense. Even they're all done after our last experience, which for one unfortunately included a not-great bathroom aftermath. Avoid this place and take the hike into east Boston or even Waltham (Taqueria El Amigo) if you want some actual decent Mexican food. Or if you're just looking for good comfort food, head to El Sarape in East Braintree/Weymouth Landing. (There is actually room to breathe in there!) Unfortunately MA has never been where good Mexican is at and Cielo is no exception. read more

So today I walked into Cielo with my husband into a restaurant that was almost empty. I sat down at the table while my husband went to the bathroom first. Then I went to the bathroom and my husband sat down at the table. Then we sat for another 10 minutes and still no one had to come to take our drink order or being salsa and chips which normally happens when we come to Cielo. I've been to Cielo many times to the point that I know some of the bartenders by name. After sitting for almost 15 minutes I took my bag and on my way out said I've been sitting here and watched you guys serve two other large tables who came in after us chips and salsa and take drink orders yet no one has managed to even say hello to my husband and I yet. I walked out telling them apparently we are invisible. Of course the apologies came then but In reality I don't want your apologies right now. I want to be treated like a paying customer who deserves service. I have a video review ready to go.
