    Birria Tacos and Tsunami platter

I've gotten the food a few times in the past 2 months and I must say, the experience has been disappointing. Every single time the food takes 30 mins +, even when they aren't busy at all. I've worked in restaurants and get pick up from plenty of other places, I don't know of one other place that consistently takes that long for a single order when there are no other customers. One time it even took almost an hour! On top of that, I haven't seen the older gentleman who I presumed was a manager, he was fantastic, but the last time I went in to pick up an order the behavior from the staff was questionable. I arrived to pick up at about 7:25, and the door was locked but they were still open. I then stood there, knocking, with another customer, and waited until the cashier opened the door. She then told the other customer she couldn't place their order because they decided to clean early that night, and then let me in. Again, I have worked in restaurants before, I get it, you want to clean early so you can leave on time, but I've never seen this apply to denying customers from ordering 30~ minutes before closing, especially one customer! It makes sense if it's a party of 6 for dine in, or if you close in 10 minutes, but one person 30 minutes before?? On top of that, the cashier wasn't very friendly, and I had to wait for about 10-15 minutes for my food (on top of the 20+ minutes beforehand when I placed my order). I did not once get an apology or any reason as to why my order was taking so long when the restaurant was dead. Instead the cashier just did her closing work in front of me. She then left and went into the back, and another person came looking for a pick up. They knocked and tried to get in but the worker was nowhere to be found to open the door. When I finally got my food, the gorditas were missing the cheese on top. This whole experience is so much different than what I remember from when this place opened. The food is still good, but lacks in some areas like the rice in the burrito having no flavor, the tres leches is dry, the gorditas being dry occasionally, and the salsas really aren't that flavorful tbh. I still recommend the guac, al pastor, and birria tacos.

This taqueria in Dorchester was cool. Well decorated with lights and trinkets. I enjoyed the tacos--the service was fast, and they had all the classic options. One unique touch was a cutesy blue taco that came with the meal, which I thought was a nice touch. I ordered the al pastor taco, which was flavorful, and I liked that I could customize my toppings. I also noticed something interesting on the menu--Birria Ramen--so I'll definitely be trying that next time. Overall, the service was great, and the food was delish.

Unfortunately they ate, just like I did my food. The carne? Asada-ing. The guac? Amoley-ing. I wish their horchata was nut free. 5 stars

Order two mexican party meal and came back for a carne bowl. I was very pleased with freshness and quality of food. The seasoning of the meat was exquisite and there was a little bit of everything. The service was polite and to the point. The ambiance was clean and you get feel of mexico. The offer extra toppings from taco bar! All their food safety credential were posted. I love the flavoring!

Another day of something new and something local. Wifey came across this spot in a local Facebook group so we decided to check it out. It was a great find! We met one of the owners, Brian, he was really nice, friendly, and very helpful. I got the lengua burrito and wifey got 3 tacos. She got chicken tinga, carne asada and lengua. We both went to Anna's recently and were disappointed lengua wasn't on their menu anymore so we were excited to find it here! The burrito automatically comes with cheese and beans, so if you don't like, make sure you tell them to exclude it. You have a choice of 1 protein with some items have an up charge, a choice of 5 toppings, and a sauce. I wasn't sure how spicy their sauces were so I got their signature tsunami sauce on the side. I should've had it in the burrito because I couldn't get enough. Wifey really liked her tacos too. Next time we go, we will def try the carne birria. We also tried the horchata and hibiscus drink. Both were very good, not super sweet like other spots. Wifey described the horchata as Christmas in a cup.

Birria tacos were excellent, reminds me of tacos you'd get in LA. Birria ramen was also great! Loved the condiment/salsa bar as you can add more cilantro, radishes, lime or salsa to your liking! Hibiscus tea was refreshing. Will try the Horchata next time. Good food, nice owner! Will be my new go to for taco Tuesday!

Tsunami Platter (2 Street Tacos, 2 Flautas, 1 Empanada and 1 Gordita)

The flavors transported us straight to a taqueria in the heart of Los Angeles--easily one of the best Mexican spots in the Boston area! We sampled a variety of meats: beef barbacoa (in both birria ramen and tacos), chicken tinga, al pastor, adobada pork, and carne asada. Every bite was tender and flavorful, with or without sauce, though their housemade guacamole sauce is downright addictive. Their beverage selection is just as impressive. We think we spotted Jarritos in the fridge, but we couldn't resist the horchata and a delightful hibiscus-tamarind juice that felt almost magical. We also noticed Mexican tamarind candy sticks behind the counter--fingers crossed they'll be adding mangonadas to the menu soon!

    Dessert... So tasty

Had a great experience at Umami Tsunami Taqueria recently. My favorite was the flautas with guacamole salsa, but you can't go wrong with anything. Staff was friendly and attentive. Will be coming back often!

Everything that we've tried so far (and we eat a lot!) have been a solid 4+ stars: Fried oysters, Chicken gizzards, Tako wasabi, Kurobuta sausage, Ankimo and the Hamachi kama all excellent starters. What surprised us most was the quality of the sashimi -- so fresh and tasty. You can't go wrong with the hamachi, salmon, tuna or special scallops and the ikura nigiri and the Torched Salmon Maki were both fantastic. The only thing that would've elevated this more is if they had options to order it as sushi dinners vs needing to order everything a la carte to get a decent amount of sushi as an entree. For the noodle soup lovers, my 2 year old ate the entire adult-sized bowl of Kitsune Udon! I tried a bite just to see what all the excitement was and can attest that it's got a nice sweeter broth that will get your kiddos hooked. Service staff were very nice and the cute cherry blossom decor is nice and inviting. They also can make a mean Gimlet if you're into cocktails. We shall be back!

Not sure if it was an off night, but my pork was no grilled well... I was hoping their was a char on the pork but there was none. It almost tasted undercooked. Luckily it wasn't... The sauce that comes with the grilled pork is really good. It definitely saved the pork. This comes with a side serving of sticky rice. I would give this dish a 6/10. I'm definitely going to come back and give this dish another try. Pad Thai here is good. I would say 7/10. We did have a mishap because we requested no peanuts and there were peanuts all over. It's primarily booth seating, which makes it feel comfortable and a little more private. But there's also bar seating on the other side mostly for single guests but they will accommodate if you ask. You can grab your choice of sushi from the revolving trays passing by your table, or order food/drinks directly from the screen above the table. When you order from the menu, your food is delivered right to your table on an automated belt system, which is honestly so fun to watch. Even the drinks come with their own moment, they're brought out by a little robot that sings a cute song, which just adds to the whole experience. We were promptly seated (early afternoon weekday). First time here and staff gave us a summarized rundown. You can order via mobile app (scan QR code at table) or thru the kiosk tablet next to on the wall next to your table. Everything sushi is pretty much $4.10 per plate (white and blue plates) once you are finished you push the plates into the slots and it'll count it on your bill. There are also appetizers, ramen etc that is about $12 for a bowl. We got mainly all nigiri and hand rolls. You can choose regular rice or light on the rice for these. Everything tasted fresh for us. If you ordered a drink it's $4 free refills. A robot brings it out for you (same with ramen bowls etc) and when you need a refill press it on your drink screen, a staff member will come to assist. Now if you wanted to order something (those come out on the top conveyor belt), but noticed it's coming around on the lower belt just pop the lid open and take it. Great first experience for conveyor style sushi. MY favorites -- both seared salmon with Japanese mayo and seared salmon with miso cream cheese. The latter being my #1 choice. The hand rolls were quick, rice, protein and a cucumber slice. I enjoyed both style wraps, the spicy yellow tail and salmon were top choices for that. I did do the toro but i didn't get much flavor out of that one. Texturally it was good though. I'll be back. For the price and convenience, worth a try!

There are meals you remember because they taste good, and then there are experiences that change…read morethe way you think about food. Three 1 One Omakase was one of those experiences. It introduced me to new textures, flavors, aromas, and, most importantly, a deeper appreciation for the culture behind the food. From the moment we arrived, Chef Wei, his wife Carrie, and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The atmosphere felt intimate, as though we had been invited into someone's home rather than a restaurant. Every detail felt intentional, from the minimalist design and calming ambiance to the subtle aromas throughout the space. Learning that Three 1 One was originally a one-bedroom apartment made the experience even more meaningful. The evening reminded me of a trip to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, where local islanders welcomed my fiancé and eight friends into their home to share a meal prepared from that day's catch. Coincidentally, there were ten guests gathered around the counter at Three 1 One, just as there had been ten of us in Vietnam. In both places, strangers came together over exceptional food and genuine hospitality. That feeling stayed with me throughout the evening. My fiancé and I celebrated our 11th anniversary here as we began exploring Michelin-starred restaurants together. After traveling throughout North and South Vietnam, where his family is from, we returned with a renewed appreciation for food and the stories it tells. We were excited to discover such a thoughtful Michelin-starred restaurant so close to home. The 19-course omakase felt like a journey. The opening truffle sea bream with mizuna and sudachi sauce awakened the palate with bright citrus and earthy richness. The Kegani Hokkaido hairy crab with dashi jelly and tomato dashi mousse became my fiancé's favorite. Once mixed together, it was creamy, savory, delicate, and refreshing. His reaction said it all: "Wow." The tako (octopus) with house-made sweet soy sauce highlighted the natural flavor of the seafood beautifully, while the Tokobushi somen with abalone, wheat noodles, yam, okra, and cold dashi became one of my favorite courses. It was refined yet bold, layered with umami, and unexpectedly reminded me of the haenyeo women of Jeju Island, whose tradition of free-diving for seafood gave me an even greater appreciation for the ingredients. Another standout was the Amadai Uroko Yaki (crispy-scale tilefish). The contrast between the crisp scales and tender fish created a texture I'd never experienced before. Along with the abalone course, it was one of the highlights of the evening. The Aji horse mackerel with ginger, chives, sesame, and nori provided a refreshing transition before the sushi. The sushi alone deserves its own review. Every piece reflected remarkable craftsmanship and precision. Watching Chef Wei prepare each bite was part of the experience itself. The rice was beautifully seasoned, and every ingredient felt balanced. My favorite piece was the uni (sea urchin). It was incredibly smooth, rich, and almost buttery. My second favorite was the Hokkaido hotate (scallop), with its delicate smokiness, sweetness, and juicy texture that left me wanting another bite immediately. We also tried selections from the additional menu, along with a pear-toned sake that paired beautifully with the meal. More than anything, what stayed with me wasn't just the food, but the feeling of the evening. It was an experience built around craftsmanship, hospitality, culture, and sharing a meal with others. Thank you to Chef Wei, Carrie, and the entire team for making our 11th anniversary unforgettable and for giving us such a memorable first Michelin-star dining experience. We look forward to returning.
