I drive almost 2 hours to get to this vet. I have a French bulldog who was having issues after her ears had to be removed (she's a rescue dog). Months after the surgery she was having pain and swelling. Took her to our local vet and was told by the substitute vet she "was above his pay grade". Left there with no treatment or ideas and $400 lighter for absolutely no medical care. Called this vet. They gave me an immediate appointment. She was checked. Problem identified and meds provided that immediately provided her relief. That was great right? Well it gets better. I received phone calls from the vet tech and from the vet checking on my little earless girl. Above and beyond doesn't cover it. I have returned with another dog that my usual vet could not help. This vet figured it out. Got X-rays and gave me a game plan on what we could do next. Plain language with care. And every staff member I've spoken with has been kind, helpful and concerned. It's worth the drive to have all that. I realize people may have different experiences and I can't say that they were right or not. I can only say my experience was awesome. I don't want to have to go to the vet. But if I do this is where I will go. read more

Just took two Bulldogs in for Nare & BOAS surgeries. It has been less than a week & both are breathing better. One is still working through recovery but the larger one is ready to get on with it! I had a recommendation from a Bulldog Rescue to use them. We got an Appt. within days & the surgery was the next week. I cannot get that here with our regular Vet. Although it was a 3 hr drive for us, I know of no one else doing these surgeries with this much experience, so we were willing to make the trip. Have used this practice on a few occasions now, but will never ever return. My dog was suffering from something scratching or stuck in her throat - the only exam they did was an X-ray, did not physically evaluate or look inside her mouth or scope her in anyway. Just wanted to shove her onto antibiotics and send her home. When i questioned her about not physically evaluating my dog, she just said from across the exam room " I can see in her throat from over here, shes fine." Well come to find out she had fiberglass stuck in her throat.....but had to waste my money and time here first to figure that out. read more

I'm completely heartbroken and want to share our experience so hopefully no one ever has to go through what we did. We tragically lost my hamster, Skunk, while visiting the Cincinnati Veterinary Surgical and Wellness Center yesterday. We saw the vet Dr. Jamie Weimer. We just took him because his eyes had been a little irritated and even though they seemed to have gotten better within the past few days, I just wanted to make sure he was okay going forward. He also probably needed his nails trimmed too and a little dry spot on his chest looked at. This was my first time ever taking any of my animals here and I'm SO unbelievably relieved that I didn't take my dogs there too. While at the office, Dr. Weimer was handling Skunk to check on his eyes and overall physical health. I told the vet that I can hold him if he gets too restless or if they can't handle him but they assured us he would be okay. Multiple friends, family members, and even another exotic vet have handled Skunk without any issues before. However dealing with a new person handling your animal is always a little stressful at first. Of course, Skunk got uncomfortable and tried to get out of their hands immediately and they ended up dropping him about 5 feet to the ground. We heard a loud thump and immediately asked if he was okay. We felt like Dr. Weimer kind of brushed it off telling us he was fine and continued checking him. My boyfriend, Tommy, and I were in shock at that point. In my opinion, you could tell Skunk wasn't fine. He was super stiff and wasn't moving as much. Dr. Weimer went to pick him up again and adjust him. He clearly was still uncomfortable so he tried biting them which is something Skunk has never done with anyone else. This is where everything went even more south. Dr. Weimer dropped Skunk down to the ground, again about a 5 foot drop. In my opinion it was the same force used when you'd swat away something... We immediately went into panic mode to go pick him up from the ground and it was clear he wasn't okay. If gore or anything makes you uncomfortable, don't bother reading the rest. Skunk suffered in my hands for at least ten minutes while we yelled for them to take away his pain. We're completely heartbroken with how the entire situation was handled. He was dropped so hard that his eyes bursted open, blood was pouring out of his nose, he had peed himself, and was shaking uncontrollably. Skunk passed away in my hands. I'm angry, heartbroken, and in complete disbelief. Please keep this in mind when choosing a vet to go to in the future. This has completely scarred me to the point where I'll never allow anyone to hold any of my animals ever again. In my opinion, if you're going to be a vet who also cares for exotic animals then you should be prepared for how they behave when they're stressed and know how to properly handle them. Skunk wasn't even two years old yet. He was healthy, happy, and had so much more life to live. For anyone who knows me, they know how much Skunk meant to me. He was a part of our family and watching him suffer like that was something I'll never forget. We spoke to the medical director after and he stated that he would look into implementing more training which is something I truly hope they do. Time will tell. Going forward, I truly hope that someone learns from our experience. I don't want any animal or owner to ever have to experience what we all did yesterday. read more

I will never take another pet here again! We rushed our puppy here in an emergency because he went into hypoglycemia. We waited about 15 minutes once we checked in. Hypoglycemia is an immediate emergency! Once the vet received his temp, and blood glucose level, he decided to put a sugar solution on his gum and rub it in. He then squirted a tiny amount into his mouth that wasn't opening and he licked some of it. So the vet decided to push half the into syringe his throat which immediately came out of one nostril. I told the vet what was happening and he said it's ok and pushed the other half into throat and it all immediately poured out of both nostrils and I said that it was pouring out of both. He then starts to flailing in his hands because he is drowning and the vet say he is seizing and took back to put an IV in his leg, which at that time was too late. This is what he should have started with in the first place. My 9 week puppy died due to malpractice and that vet knew he messed up!! My two young girls witnessed this entire thing, causing my youngest to have an asthma attack, then she hyperventilated in the room. Not only did we lose our puppy, but I still had to pay and this was clearly malpractice! That vet knew that he should've taken that puppy to the back and placed an IV in him immediately instead of pumping fluids down his throat!! read more

He gave me the information I needed and while I processed the terribleness of my dog's health situation; he patiently waited and allowed me to call others. We made a hard decision literally as if we were in on a conference call. It was amazingly efficient and humane. I would recommend the Meekin(s) to any animal owners in the area. They provide the best care and they have built a nice practice. My Basset Hound had to be euthanized years ago and they sent me this sympathy card. I have never forgot it. They've done a great job helping to identify and treat his health issues. They do a wonderful job with grooming him. He smells so good and looks so shiny after they give him a medicated bath to help with his allergies. They're just so caring and compassionate and that's very high on my list of priorities when I'm having trusting someone to take care of my baby. read more

I would like to thank all of the staff here, from the front of the house to the techs and Dr. Faircloth who saved my cats life, quite literally and Dr.Dan, who has treated all of my dogs , even the "scary" working dogs ! Yesterday I went in terrified bc my 16 y/o pit/ ridgeback mix had been coughing so hard and struggling to catch his breath the previous night, that I was certain this was the visit that was going to be the one when I heard that he had congestive heart failure or something similar. Dr. Dan was running a bit late only bc he was finishing an emergency surgery. Dr. Faircloth was already done for the day but saw Ringo and I waiting and said , " I'm technically done but I can help you get started. He ended up doing the entire appt. He listened to my dogs, heart and lungs, even though my dog was trying to bite him. He was muzzled, my dog, not Dr. Charlie. The technician did a wonderful job of very gently restraining him.Dr Faircloth could have easily told me that we needed to do an echocardiogram, x-rays and up sold me, but he told me if it was his dog he wouldn't do that that it was probably a bacterial infection on top of some acid reflux and that was that and we left with some medication instead of me spending thousands of dollars on things I didn't need. My dog is doing so much better today. I can't even tell you how my family cried with relief knowing that my 16-year-old dog is going to be around for hopefully quite some time more. read more

Normally I go to All Creatures Animal Hospital in Mt. Washington, but they only have limited hours. I ended up going to the Anderson office one morning because of this. The receptionist on duty was beyond rude. I really have had no similar experience with any business anywhere. First of all, she pointedly ignored me as I sat in the lobby, waiting on another customer who came in AFTER I did. When I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt by saying, "Excuse me, Miss, I was next," she continued to ignore me. Finally, another receptionist asked me what I needed. When I explained that I'd seen worms in my foster dog's stool, the first receptionist cut in and began barking questions at me. "How far along is this dog in her pregnancy? What breed is she?" etc. Even more annoying, as I attempted to answer, she continually interrupted me before I could answer fully. Finally, after she interrupted me for the third time, I said, "Look, I'm trying to answer your questions, but you keep interrupting me." This apparently enraged her. She got up and left the lobby. The other receptionist took the stool sample and left the lobby, too--presumably to take it back to have it tested. I waited. And waited. And waited. For 45 minutes. Neither receptionist came back. A third receptionist had come in and began a long, involved conversation with a man who she apparently knew. I finally had to leave and get ready for work. I tried getting in touch with with Dr. Meakin, the owner of all three All Creatures clinics, by calling the Amelia office. I was told he was busy, as was the clinic manager. I explained my experience to the receptionist, who told me that "somebody" would get back with me. Nobody ever did. I find it incredible that a business owner would allow a snotty twenty-something, nine-dollar-per-hour receptionist to permanently lose a customer who'd been giving him business for SEVEN YEARS. But that's his choice. As far as why I received this type of treatment...I hate to play the race card, but that's the only explanation I can come up with. Perhaps if you're one hundred percent white, like the doctors and the receptionists, you'll receive better service than I did. read more

ACAH is a very good clinic and we will continue to take our pets here. The staff are clearly knowledgeable and care about their patients; they have been punctual and timely every time we have visited; I really appreciate the convenience of the two locations near us (Beechmont and Mt. Washington), and they always manage to schedule us. I prefer ACAH to the other vet offices we have been to in Clifton and Hyde Park. The only drawback for both my husband and I is that EVERY TIME we are there, they constantly badger and try to up-sell us on ancillary products that "may" help - rather than what are absolutely necessary. This can be very tedious and annoying when we have to constantly reject and reiterate that we do not want to buy everything that they think we should. Yes, we LOVE our pets, they are our family members. I understand that many veterinarians don't turn a furry patient away, they have the same student loans as far more moneyed people physicians, and they don't make near the profit margin. However, pets are expensive. We don't have pet insurance. When we leave after paying a bill worth several $100s out-of-pocket, I just don't want to be nagged at each time to buy a vitamin additive (that I can get the identical product/brand at a health store for 1/3 the cost, serious), or RX costing double what another one that is less effective (that we ended up paying $50 even though we argued that we wanted the same RX as before, used it and it was ineffective, only to have to get the original RX for $25, ALL in ONE MONTH). read more

My original review was one star and very negative because I had a negative experience with the wellness plan program and, especially, the manager of that program. I had another negative experience with the boarding, and fault myself for not taking more time before a trip to try to find a dog sitter from someone out of their home, and not boarding with a facility with more flexible policies and/or had a 24/7 onsite presence. However, I received a voicemail after hours from the owner of ACAH, Dr. Dan, and he was very concerned about my negative experience and wanted to talk about it. As upset as I was about my negative experience, it did not make me feel any better to post such a negative review. As a matter of fact, it just made me feel worse. For this reason, I have deleted my previous negative comments and just want to say that the veterinary services at ACAH are as good or better than any in the area, and I have been taking my dogs to them for many years. I do think there are bad apples in any organization, and ACAH has grown to the point where one bad apple as I had experience with concerning the wellness program, and the person that called back about the boarding (sounded like the same ice cold bad apple) were enough to send me to a negative place as a result of my negative experience. I will continue to take my dogs to ACAH for veterinary care, but will avoid any wellness plans or boarding there in the future. read more

Dr. Dan Meakin took forever to diagnose my dogs cancer. He should of realized he was in over his head and sent me to a specialist sooner. That being said my dog was diagnosed with uveitis (eye disease) caused by the cancer during this ordeal. I was not instructed to do anything. Well, when I was finally sent to a specialist for blood work the new veterinarian noticed the eye and immediately sent me to an eye specialist. We tried medicine for the eye but by then it was too late. All creatures took zero responsibility. I texted Dr. Meakin stating I was going to register a complaint and his reply was that I was being irrational. I just spent 1200.00 getting the eye removed today. It is sad when an ego is bigger than admitting fault. read more

All creatures has always done a wonderful job for my three cats. We've had a lot of work done there, and the people are great, and the Service is fantastic. However today I was disappointed. We have always gotten my cats allergy medicine there, and up till now they have matched the web price where I can get it much cheaper. They've made a management decision that they will no longer do this. If I were a younger grumpier man, I'd pick up and go someplace else. However, I'm not. But just so you know you cannot expect this courtesy from them any longer. Jim D. On 3/10/21, I took my at-least-16-year-old stray cat in because he was breathing very heavily and was not as peppy as usual. Dr. Meakin was very rude and disrespectful, barely asked any questions about my cat, barely answered any questions I had and treated me as if I was only interested in how much treatment would cost. I am wealthy enough to buy 10 little pet clinics like his so money was not an object. I obviously was upset about my cat and chose to euthanize him instead for putting him through all the repeated treatments. He was even too weak to had any blood drawn today. Then he asked me if I wanted to have my cat cremated or do I want to "dig a hole" in my yard. He actually said that while I was crying. He is incompetent and has no compassion for the animals or people. If you are wise, do never go to him. Perhaps some of the other vets there are better, I do not know. We had an awful experience with another vet in the area and was referred here by a family member. I had actually facebooked Dr. Meakin just to see if he thought switching vets mid treatment would be ok and also to see what he thought of my dogs issue (I sent him pics of a wound). I honestly did not expect a response, but to my surprise he did! He told me he could help, so I scheduled both my dogs to come see him. My other vet overcharged me on several occasions so I was very pleased when I saw that they only charged me for one office visit when Dr. Meakin saw both my dogs at the same time! Plus their fees were much more on the money than my previous vet. I don't think my other vet ever showed me a bill less than 100 dollars. For one visit where both dogs were seen, tested, and given wipes to take home for cleaning a wound, it was 80 dollars. The staff also had to deal with a very unpleasant staff from my previous vet when calling and requesting my records. They were extremely professional and patient in dealing with all the nonsense. Huge kudos to the staff! Also, my shihtzu does not like to be groomed and my previous vet told me to sedate him prior to grooming. I was shocked when Dr. Meakin took the clippers right to his nose to clean up the wounded area. Completely shocked. Overall I am so happy we switched and wish we had done it sooner! I've been coming here for at least 15 years. The vets are very good, but I have to give the hospital 2 stars because of their inefficiency. I don't care how minimal the visit need is or if I've had a scheduled appointment or they "fit me in", I can never get out of there without a one-hour minimal wait. I had a simple tech appointment for a bordatella vaccine and waited 45 mins! The typical wait is more like 2 hours. My husband waited 3 hours the other day! This is unacceptable and very inconsiderate. Imagine for a minute that one of the vets came to get my services and had to wait 2 hours in the waiting room--I'm sure they'd be fuming. You all really must get a handle on this. Bring in a consultant or something to help you get more organized. The receptionist is extremely rude every time I am there. I am disappointed they would allow this woman to continue being the "face" of this business. read more

Very unprofessional and unorganized, the receptionist are rude and disrespectful. I scheduled an appointment for 12pm and got there 9 minutes late and they canceled my entire appointment! When arriving after my 45 minute drive from Kentucky they said that I had canceled my own appointment, which was never true! The "technician" I was supposed to see was only working a half day and since arriving 9 minutes past my appointment time they canceled the whole visit! I have spent thousands of dollars with this vet clinic between my three dogs and this was just mind blowing. I will definitely be taking my money and pets elsewhere I will never be back to that place! Sadly, I must agree with the poor reviews here. My cat was a patient there for a couple years. My cat recently became ill - barely moving, not eating. Called All creatures for a sick visit and received Answering machine during normal office hours. Was told to leave message and they'd call back. They never called. Called the following day and they said they were busy, maybe tomorrow, then he said he was great with availability and he'd get someone else. Was on hold for seven minutes until I hung up. Called their Amelia office and the message said no one available, they were in a staff meeting. So, taking the cat elsewhere. The doctor at All Creatures is a good doctor, but their staff is not great and they aren't very responsive. read more

Forget this place! I have been taking my dog there for four years for everything. In December they approved a prescription canned food for my dog from Chewy. Now the beginning of March they are saying no because they have not seen her in a while. However, they have had no problem grooming her every five weeks and no problem selling me heartgard and nexgard. Guess its all about the money. Even got nasty with me when I called to question this. Hope they don't treat the animals the same way they treat people! Especially when we can't go in with our animals during this covid time. read more

We brought our "Kitty" in this week for a groom. She was a rescue and very badly matted. We had tried ourselves to cut the mats out and shave her but in the end we decided that getting her groomed would be best. Kitty is also very scared and hates all people besides us. All Creatures was pleasant every time we spoke on the phone and when we took our kitty in they were very very nice! We were nervous wrecks while she was there but we got her back within a few hours and after kitty was home for a bit she was so happy and so loving. Having those mats off of her must be amazing! She has been rubbing on everything and is much happier. We can't thank All Creatures enough!!! We appreciate you so much!! Thank you for being nice, caring and timely! :) read more

Very bad day today! Had to have a loving dog put to sleep today. The vet tech was very kind and caring. He administered the sedative for the dog and sent for the vet. When Dr. Meekin came in he questioned our choice and while prepping for the final shot he noticed fleas he asked if there were other pets in the home and we said yes. At that point he proceeded to try to sell a prescription for flea meds as the dog laid in the table dying. While we wanted to grieve he wanted a sale. SHAME ON YOU!! If our normal vet would have been available today we never would have gone there but we we're not about to let our dog suffer. Can't rate this "Dr" low enough!! He needs to take lessons from the rest of his staff on compassion! That one star is very generous! read more

Unfortunately, our 18-year-old cat's health rapidly declined, and we had to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep. The veterinary assistant was compassionate and the doctor listened to our concerns. We do not have an issue with these two individuals; rather, it is the rude customer service that will prevent us, and should prevent you, from obtaining their services. The doctor informed us that numerous urn options would be provided and that they had to perform the cremation services at another location; we would have to wait for our cat's remains, which is understandable. We inquired about the urns when we paid, and the unfriendly receptionist stated that we could review urns when we picked up our cat and ensured us that the urn was a nice decorative box for display. The office never contacted us when our kitty's remains were returned to their facility. When I called to follow up with the status of my cat's return, the woman was rude and harried. I sent my spouse in to pick up the kitty, and he did not look at the urn until he returned home. The urn was a wood box that resembled a mini coffin. When he called to express our displeasure of the urn, the woman said in a rude voice, "That is what you get for free." We did not ask for a free urn; we simply wanted a decent memorial for our beloved pet. read more

Saw Dr. Dan Meakin for a wellness exam of my sugar glider. I was displeased by the impersonal treatment and his immediate dismissal of some of my concerns, including his view on nail trimming: "They don't need their nails trimmed, they are too small." While I didn't agree I was upset when a vet tech who was helping me trim them was told to stop as well. Sugar gliders DO need their nails trimmed to prevent them from catching on things--this can be done yourself or through a "trim track" on their wheel [a fine grit sandpaper underneath the wheel's mesh so only their nails touch it]. They are not too small for this. He did not take a very proactive stance on examining the glider but did offer to remove the remaining skin from a pom-on neuter done 4 days prior that was healing because he did not know why the vet "left so much skin." (he would laser-remove the skin for $120, cost of neuter). I declined and felt the visit was not very in-depth nor did he seem interested in the history of the glider or my diet. I did not need this excess skin removed as it is how that particular neuter is supposed to look. Would recommend for emergencies but not as a regular vet based on my personal experience. It was expensive but anyone who owns an 'exotic' pet realizes vet visits won't be cheap. read more

I am a client of theirs. When I needed help after their posted hours, I called because they offer AFTER hours care, but when rubber hit the road, that terms AFTER HOURS is used loosely. It seems that it is available only if the doctor wants to come in or not to meet a client. So they do not really have your pet's best interst in mind. After this experience I asked around more about them and I received more..."Eww I had a bad experience...." Responses than the few who said "I love them". Another person said that "it seems that is the same policy they have for housecalls...It is like they say they do all these type of services, just to luer you in." I wont be back. read more

Shameful! The tech from all creatures called me and let me know my dog needed it's booster and rabies vaccine immediately. I began to tell her we had an emergency vet visit at beechmont pet hospital and he is currently on medication for a week and that it's best to hold off on vaccines until he finishes. Even though the boosters are already up to date and beechmont advised he wasn't due until another month and rabies is out of the question until he is 6 months. The tech from all creatures then without a pause goes" well, Ohio law state that he has to have a rabies at 16 weeks." Ohio has no laws on rabies vaccinations. This practice solicits previous customers and tells them false information and makes up laws to incite people to there business. This is unlawful, poor integrity, and unethical. You've lost my business, which you really never had, my friends and family business and I hope hundreds if not thousands after reading this review. I have the entire conversation recorded and will be sending to appropriate business legal counsel, and the better business Bureau which will hopefully open an investigation to this shameful business and the methods used to bring in business. Picked the wrong individual to try and screw over and possibly kill my dog. Maybe Peta is a good option as well..... read more

I've never used their vet services but only grooming services at All Creatures, and Stevie is amazing!! We have had two very timid dogs when it came to nail trimmings and she earned their trust to where they no longer had any fears of having their nails trimmed. She's very loving and patient with our dogs and we've literally followed her in her grooming career for years when she started elsewhere. We appreciate her kindness with our dogs and will follow her wherever she goes!! read more

We've HAD been customers of All Creatures for over 15 yrs. I type this out with a BROKEN HEART. We lost one of our Cats on Monday and we think she'd still be here now if a couple of the Vets checked the blood work 5 weeks earlier! Normally went to the Anderson location and would see Dr. Linda Meakin. We have 4 cats. One was throwing up so I called to get her in. Was told they had no openings. So I called Amelia location and they got her in. Took complete blood panel, xrays. The xrays showed no blockage. Got a call back 2 days later saying the blood work looked fine. Then we brought her in 2 more times to Amelia for re-check because they put her on steroids. At those 2 visits had to see another Vet. Then 3 days before she passed away, we noticed she stopped eating. Took her back to Amelia only to see another Vet. She gave her fluids and was given an antibiotic shot. This was on Sunday. By Monday morning, we noticed how cold our Cat felt and when you picked her up, she was near lifeless. Now that Monday was Labor Day. I frantically called All Creatures in Amelia; hit #1 for emergency and someone answered. They had a vet there for emergencies only. They told us to get in there. Her pupils were dilated and I knew in my heart this was the end. We saw another newer Vet there. He drew more blood. Ran the test and compared the numbers with the first blood work. He informed us that the previous test showed the kidney number was high and there was protein in the urine. Both not good. On Monday morning; blood in urine; informed she has Kidney failure and would not make it. We chose to end any suffering for her. I was so upset, I couldn't believe I was losing my favorite cat. WHY didn't anyone mention Kidney Failure or problems 5 weeks earlier? With medications, we might have been able to save her and she'd be here now. So 5 vet visits; $1000 and I lost my best pal. This is UNACCEPTABLE to us! We will NOT be returning to All Creatures. They let my cat die. read more

I'm so impressed with All Creatures. They have been professional and caring about my two rescue cats.

I scheduled my appointment to be the first one of the day (10:00). I was a few minutes early, and was not informed of any issues. At 10:45 when I left, the Vet was just arriving and was still going to be 15 minutes before she could see me. This is totally unacceptable. If I had been 45 minutes late, my appointment would have been cancelled. When I asked the Tech (who did an awesome job) what the hold-up was, I was informed that the Vet owned a bunch of dogs that they had to deal with in the mornings and some mornings were better than others. I would not recommend the Anderson location and will be switching to Amelia even though it's a 45 minute drive. If I had not purchased a Wellness Program, I would be switching completely. read more

Horrible experience.... went to get dog seen for a follow up infection of neuter site that he had when we adopted him. We were seen only by the vet technician and not the dr. she said it still looked infected but to go home and keep watching it and call if it got worse. Shouldn't the actual vet be making that decision? 2 days later, it was more red and looked infected. I called back at 9:00 am to let them know and NEVER received a call back on how to help my animal. Terrible place that clearly does not care about animals. read more

When I went to pick up my dog they said they had had an incident. They were sorry, but they had cut my dog's ear. She had to have stitches. I was not impressed with the cut, it was not even, there were stray hairs dangling under her abdomen & on the inside of her legs. They made me feel like it was my dog's fault. My dog is very sweet & well mannered & never had this problem before. read more

We moved to the Cincinnati area 2006. At that time we asked our agent where the best vet in the area was and she pointed us to All Creatures. Since then we have had our Border Collie treated there for several issues as she is climbing up in age. Service for me and our pet have been outstanding and the techs and doctors who examined our pet, now pets have always addressed our questions and any concerns we brought up. I have recommended All Creatures to several of my friends as the locations are convenient to most of the area. read more
