When we entered, we were greeted with kind smiles from the ladies and they welcomed us to sit at any free table. Inside has lots of decor with ample seating. We sat and a server grabbed us menus. We got a carnitas burrito, grilled cactus side, horchata, and strawberry limeade (per her recommendation). Everything came so fast, and they even split the burrito for us! Oh my god, everything was so good. This has to be one of the BEST burritos I have ever had, comparable to the ones in San Diego. I love carnitas, and they do it so well here. It was tender, flavorful, just the perfect amount of sauce and seasoning! And the horchata was the best I have ever had too! The strawberry limeade was refreshing, and the grilled cactus was good! It was my first time trying it and it reminded me of aloe vera/okra texture. I had such a great time, such a great experience, I will definitely be back!

Then we realized the hostess wouldn't speak to us again for about 15mins. Turns out they "don't speak English" and bc we looked **foreign** (I'm being nice) they didn't know how/want to proceed. Wasn't until my Cuban friend started speaking Spanish that we were able to get service and was able to order. With all that said, the food was mid at best (fresh but lacking flavor) but the space was cute and cozy. Seems to be a hit amongst their friends and families so I will gladly leave their safe space to just them.

Cinco De Mayo is magical in the way that every time I come here, whatever I try that day becomes my instant favorite. At first they were my favorite tacos. Then they were my favorite hamburgers (I love the quesillo spicy burger). Then they were my favorite enchiladas. Today, I finally had a "new favorite dish" that made me have to post on yelp. They have chicken fajitas that are to die for. My idea of a fajita was totally warped by what I used to get in McDonald's: some peppers and a bit of meat thrown into a tortilla. What I got from Cinco De Mayo was completely different. It was a mix of peppers, onions, and succulent chicken that was cooked on a hot plate. When it arrived at the table it was still smoking and loud sizzling could be heard. 5 out of 5 stars for both presentation and taste!! Cinco De Mayo is the best Mexican food I've ever tasted. A lot of these "Tex Mex" places or whatever use minimal ingredients to make their food, but when eating at Cinco De Mayo, I can definitely feel the time and care they put into making every dish. My name is Corey Rockafeler. If you are going to endorse something, you should be willing to own what you say with total transparency. The extent of my Mexican culinary palate has been limited. Mexican food never really appealed to me. That changed at Cinco De Mayo. WOW. The food was simply awesome. The tacos and their version of a " burger" blew my mind.The place is clean and spacious. Its located in the new and improved South Bronx( the 42nd precinct is across the street) so if you see NY's finest , don't get scared. lol. I Highly recommend . If you're looking for delicious and authentic Mexican food, Cinco de Mayo in the Bronx is a must! Upon entering the quaint restaurant, you get a feel of a small Mexican Village. The employees are busy and always with a smile and eager to help you in any way they can. Immediately you smell the spices that fill the air with a nice aroma. It's seldom that I find a place in NYC that reminds me of home. (Mexico) I placed an order over the phone on a Wednesday evening and I haven't been the same since. The service is beyond amazing and the food is authentic. Nothing moves me more than great service. My mother insisted that we get to the restaurant to meet the people that provided such service and we came to realize that the in person service was just as immaculate as the delivery. I recently won their weekly raffle and they provided lunch for myself and 12 of my coworkers just by me putting my business card in their bowl. This place has become like my second home. I remember the first time I tried their food I was not crazy about the salsa you get when you sit and eat and have nachos. This place is amazing. You may think a restaurant located in an odd place that it is would be subpar, but it's the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. I've become somewhat of a regular and it's so close to my home that I can't help but order out. The waitress there is also really nice and patient. I go often to 5 de Mayo since they open, never disappoint, being honest there are not too much places cooking Mexican Food like this guys, the real Mexican flavor, Love tacos and that good horchata. If you don't believe me, go to 5 de Mayo and taste it by yourself . This is the very first AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant I've been to. You will not make a mistake eating here, I would refer anybody and everybody here. I come here every time because they have the best guacamole in the Bronx. The seating is comfortable and spacious for a big family. Great authentic Mexican food, they even have flautas! I lived in California for 21 years, and the food here is just as good as some of the best there.
