This is a pleasant little restaurant just off of 81. The chips and salsa were good. I had the veggie fajitas which only came with 3 little tortillas while the portion of veggies was huge. So I had to pay an extra $1.50 for more. That was a little frustrating but it may be the new normal. Perhaps the worst Mexican dinner I've ever had. I order fish tacos any time I see them on a menu so that's what I did. They were awful - I couldn't even finish them. When they were brought to the table, they had a strong fishy odor which was off-putting. But the taste was the problem. They were just blah! No spices or dressing - just the smelly fish and some lettuce and tomatoes. Another guest at our table ordered chicken tacos and he asked the waiter for something to put on his for flavor because they were blah too. Another little bowl of salsa was brought. I added it to mine also but it didn't help. Ugh! The restaurant seemed clean and was comfortable. We had a very nice young waiter named Virgil: he did a great job! Other staff members were pleasant and helpful too. It must have been what I chose but I doubt I'll ever return. Not a good experience. read more

We thought they were closed. Blackout curtains were pulled to the floor and only one sign was lit from the outside. Food was good but service wasn't the best. Plates were slung in front of us and the waitress grabbed things and she passed by without asking if we were finished with them. Our waitress seemed annoyed with us after trying to refuse me a margarita because my ID was vertical. I'm over 21 and out of state. I travel for work so I haven't been able update to horizontal yet. I told her that she was welcome to have it scanned it if she believed it was fake but she ended up asking for a second opinion from another waitress and ultimately served me the beverage I asked for. Pricing was decent. I don't feel as if I were overcharged for anything. Had a group of 9 come in and they got the tables set up quickly, barely a wait at all. The service was great, kept peoples drinks filled and asked how we were doing as we waited for the food. Chips and salsa were kept full as we all made the mistake of filling up on them before the food came. Despite the number of orders for our group, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time and it was all hot. I wasn't sure about this place because it was located in a small strip mall building with another much larger, stand alone Mexican restaurant in the same plaza nearby. We only ended up here because we initially wanted to try the sushi place in the same building as Cinco De Mayo. The sushi place was only doing takeout however, so we peeked in the windows of Cinco De Mayo and it was a really nice looking restaurant. We decided to give the place a try. The menu is pretty standard with the usual Mexican restaurant staples, and they have a pretty wide variety of dishes. They start you off with chips and salsa, which was quite good. The chips were crispy and fresh, and the salsa had a lot of flavor without being overly spicy. We ordered the chimichanga bite appetizer, which is 8 mini chicken chimichangas with a dipping sauce. They were a great start to the meal. I got an enchilada platter which was a very generous portion. My wife got the Camerones a la Mexicana, which was rice, refried beans and shrimp in a spicy, but not hot, chipotle sauce. The shrimp were fantastic. So were my enchiladas. Even the rice and the refried beans were flavorful and tasty, and I'm not a big fan of refried beans. When we arrived, it wasn't very busy, but a lot of people came in after us. Even with the increased crowd, our server did a great job and was very friendly. One last note - if they are still offering the cranberry margarita when you go here, definitely give it a try. Most everything is good here except for the disgusting cheese they use. I just can't get past this. It tastes like Kraft American singles but white. Why can't they use cheese like a normal Mexican restaurant? Cotija cheese and cheddar cheese and a handful that you can Google that are traditional Mexican cheeses. Dry and crumbly or smooth and melty like you would use in an enchilada. But this cheese is just disgusting. read more

We stopped here to eat as our hotel was close. We ordered tacos plate. Our server was very nice & kept up on our drinks & needs. The food was very good and the hot salsa I requested didn't disappoint....it's very hot & tastes amazing. My only complaint was that the Margarita was mostly ice & didn't have enough tequila, if you catch what I'm throwing. It wasn't inexpensive either. We have eaten here many times and had good service and good food. Not tonight. We were served our drinks and chips and salsa. We ordered simple dishes. We waited for at least 30 -40 minutes. I have never waited anywhere near that long for Mexican food. When we asked about our food and what was taking so long our waitress apologized and said they made it to go. We said oh, ok. Then another 10 minutes went by. Another waitress stopped and apologized. We decided to forget the food and wanted to pay for our drinks and leave. The waitress said are you sure you don't want to take it to go? We said no. We are sure. We left and went to burger king. Cinco de mayo was a huge disappointment today. Best Mexican joint I've been to since moving to the area in 2011. This is my new go-to. The chimichangas were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The chicken was flavorful. It was obvious that the meat had been slow cooked. The beans and rice were both of perfect flavor and texture. We also got the fajita nachos with shrimp. The shrimp were juicy and delicious. The way just about spilled her the drink on me when I talked to the manager she was very rude nasty and didn't give a shit about customers. This is our favorite Mexican place! The food is spot on. Steak is tender, shrimp has so much flavor, and everything spiced to perfection. Their guacamole is homemade and we get the dip trio almost every time we come here. They have great chips too! I went here last night for my birthday, quite the drive from where I stay (Northern VA) but honestly very pleased with my visit. My chicken tacos were delicious. The table made guacamole is a great plus, though I don't eat it I thought it was cool they did it in front of you and you could choose what goes in it. Spanish rice was really good. Food came out quick which was a huge PLUS with a toddler. And my server was very attentive, even with his frail fingers (joke). I had a jumbo mango margarita, which was really good. I had supreme/combo fajita. It was delicious, and fragrant with saute onion and green bell pepper. Tortilla chips are on the hard side, and salsa was tasty. Horchata was the bomb, loved it. It's different from most mexican I tried in MD/DC/VA area. I even took a to-go horchata. Suggestion not related to the food: maybe Fabreeze or automatic air freshener on the entry way. At the cusp of the Cinco de Mayo lunch special we entered the restaurant. Cold and dark the restaurant was, completely opposite to the meal that was awaiting us. Just 10 minutes to the end of the lunch special we ordered our food, whilst being pleasantly surprised by reasonable prices. Uncharacteristic of most Mexican restaurants, we were showered with chips and salsa, so much so that we were forced to leave some of the delicious appeateazer behind. Our food came promptly, donning beautiful colors and a delectable presentation, we quickly dove in. Oh but alas, our meal was over too soon, for we had forgotten to enjoy the wonderful flavors Cinco de Mayo had brought us. So please, take my advice, if you ever find yourself traveling into this wonderful abode, be sure to eat slowly and enjoy your grandiose meal, my heart will surely be warmed. read more

I will say no one in the back cooking (I saw 3 guys) were wearing a mask or had one to wear... they came out to the floor and bathrooms near customers and still didn't have one. All servers had one on and did great. The bus boy was wearing their mask below the nose. If you're looking for a business following code they may not be it right now. I have been here to this restaurant many times. I have given them many chances to be good or better. I'm NOT impressed at all. They give you a menu that says kids meals are $5.99 you get the bill kids menus are $6.99 I brought it up and got charged what the menu said. The salsa is not good at all!! It's bland, no spice, no cilantro. The portion size is way too small for what you pay. The guacamole I ordered separate because, it doesn't come with my fajitas. It was bland and without the usual seasonings. I will NOT ever go back!! I can't wait until the other Mexican place opens near by. I hope they will blow this place out of the water!! read more
