We recently visited this location. We were seated immediately in spite of how busy it was at that time of day. Our server was terrific. He got drinks and chips and salsa right away and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. Once our order was taken, it was at our table in about 8 minutes. We weren't rushed and were able to sit and enjoy a meal unencumbered by mistakes or rude service. The food was flavorful, hot, and seasoned just right. The place is a bit on the small side. When it's full it can be a bit loud but not intrusive. We will be visiting again soon. I hope our next visit is just as outstanding as this visit. read more

DO NOT waste your time or money at Cinco De Mayo Mexican Restaurant at 5770 Old Hickory Blvd, Hermitage, TN 37076 unless you enjoy being ignored and disrespected. I walked in to place a to-go order, and the first guy automatically assumed I was there for pickup. I corrected him, and he sent me to another register. The woman there asked me the same damn question. Then the manager comes out and--surprise--asks me AGAIN if I'm picking up. How many times do I have to say the same thing before these clueless employees get it through their heads? Then the real insult happened. The manager told me he'd be right back to take my order, walked off, and when he finally came back, instead of acknowledging me--like any decent employee would--he completely ignored me and jumped straight to the customer behind me. No, "Let me take care of this customer first," no, "Are you ready to order?"--nothing. I was literally standing there at the register, looking at the menu, waiting for him, and he acted like I didn't even exist. It's the worst feeling ever. So, I looked him straight in the eye and told him, "Thank you for acknowledging me. I'm taking my money somewhere else. You have a great day." Because clearly, my business isn't valued here. This isn't even the first time they've pulled this. A few years ago, they messed up my order, but I stupidly decided to give them another chance. Big mistake. Nothing has changed. My money isn't "green enough" for them, but trust me, plenty of other places will be happy to take it. Julian was my server and he was very nice, friendly and very polite. I have come here many times before as this place has been here for as long as I can remember. I have always had mixed reviews when I come here but I have never had a really bad experience or been super disappointed. The food was really good this time. I had the barbacoa chimichanga and their chips and salsa were really good too (salsa has a bit of an extra oregano taste but not too overwhelming). The worst mexican food I've ever had in my life. I am from San Diego, I'm visiting Tennessee and was craving mexican food. Mexican food here is nothing compared to San Diego mexican food. The chips and salsa were good, the guacamole was very bland. Margaritas were great and a good price for the pitcher. The food was terrible. The chicken in the crunchy taco had absolutely no flavor and tasted old. The taco itself was tiny, it hardly had any toppings on it and the shell was not crunchy. The cheese enchilada was very bland and the sauce they used was tasteless. The chilie relleno was odd, normally they have cheese in them but this one had chicken. Even though I did not order that. The chille itself was not bad but like I said the chicken here is flavorless. Surprisingly the rice and beans were the worst thing on the plate. The beans had such an odd flavor that I couldn't even take 2 bites of it. The flavor completely ruined my appetite. Overall, I'm sure if you're from the south this food might be authentic to you. If you're from San Diego or anywhere where they have authentic delicious mexican food you will not like this. read more

Cinco de Mayo Mexican restaurant is just off of Interstate 40 and was convenient to my hotel. The service was decent, but unfortunately, the food was mediocre. The Nashville, Tennessee area has some fantastic Mexican restaurant, unfortunately, this is not one of them. I went with one of their burritos. I've had burritos all over, this was okay. Unfortunately, that seems to be the theme of this restaurant, it is just okay. Is not very authentic and even for Americanized Mexican food, it is still not very good. Sadly, I cannot recommend this establishment. It was not terrible, but results are not very good. As I said, Nashville, Tennessee has some fantastic Mexican restaurants. I've eaten here twice and both times the food was terrible. The chips and salsa are fine but the entrees are not good. The fajitas meat is tough and has grizzle and every thing tastes pretty good-cooked and thrown together at the last minute. I ordered a stew that was supposed to be meat slow cooked in a sauce and served in a bowl but received pieces of dried out pork with some warmed up sauce thrown on top on a plate. The chili relleno wasn't good and the ground beef literally tasted like canned dog food. That is not hyperbole! Both times it tasted like this. Very disappointed. read more

We used to go there at least once per week and have gone there as many as 5 times per week, but we don't go as often now. The prices have become ridiculous, especially for the amount of food you get. It still tastes much the same but the prices have gone up and portion sizes have gone down. Also, as with all Mexican restaurants around here, they need more spices. I think Mexican restaurant owners think American's don't want spice, but we do! When we make it at home it is so much better because we spice it up. I just hate to cook anymore. read more

We went to eat dinner here. My order was messed up. Raw onions had been put on top of my burrito. The waitress took the plate back to the kitchen, scraped it off then returned it. There were still onions on the food, When I spoke to the manager on duty, he was rude, condescending, and still expected me to pay for my meal, even though it was inedible. He even suggested that the problem was my fault, because I did not say anything to him earlier. He even tried to lie and said it had been recooked. Reserving food after being sent back to the kitchen is a health code violation. I will never go back, and I hope that something will be done about the manager of this restaurant. You can tell you are at a good Mexican restaurant when they have a wait to get a table, and this has happened multiple times when I've eaten at Cinco De Mayo. I love this place; the salsa is spicy, the food is consistently good, AND they have delicious sangria! I've had a variety of dishes off the menu, and am always pleased with my meal. Ask for the hot salsa if you are a fan of heat, it will light you on fire! I've been here multiple times with friends and it doesn't disappoint. The only dish I've ever had that was not their standard fare had a mole sauce on top that wasn't great (it's extremely difficult to perfect). But everything else has been excellent. They also have a lunch menu 7 days a week, something I've never seen before! Great job Cinco! :) read more

I i've been going to this restaurant for years however the last couple times I've been there it is so dirty so gross and the service is terrible. Most importantly the food was so bad you could hardly eat it I actually brought my food to feed my dog which I doubt he will even eat!. The Cinco de Mayo on Whitebridge Road is still pretty good. This place needs to be gutted redone overhauled and a whole new staff. I have been going here for about 5 years every 1-2 weeks consistently. And it took moving 25 mins away to make me realize how much I took this place for granted. We stopped In for dinner last night after our family photo shoot and although our waitress was new and struggled a little we were reminded why we love this place. The food was absolutely delicious and my Margarita was strong! We always get Guacamole & Queso to start. My boyfriend is always picky about his salsa and was happier it was a little spicier tonight. I just care that my guacamole was perfect! I always special request a chimichanga with ONLY refried beans inside no meat. It's not on the menu here or anywhere but it should be. I like that they served with the queso on the side for me to dunk it as I please. The pico was great because it wasn't loaded with jalapeños like most places do. They were very generous with the pico, sour cream and guacamole which is rare. Also House margarita on the rocks had the perfect balance of flavors. It being on special when we got the check was a nice surprise. And this new again mom really appreciated it because I hardly get enjoy a drink with dinner these days. I think every time I'm in Hermitage I will be stopping by since I realize I took this place for granted for so long. read more

By far some of the best Mexican food we've had to date. Try the homemade habanero salsa, it was to die for and had crazy heat, not for those not willing to cry. The place was slammed as it was a Friday night. This however was no issues as our server was fast, friendly and had every attention to detail. Try the dessert, my fiance got the Mexican cheese cake, and well, check out the pics you'll see! CINCO has amazing drink specials like 2$ Margarita's, 2$ sangria, 2$ drafts and much more varies on day of the week. Even if you don't plan on eating, which you'd be crazy not to, get a table instead of sitting at the bar. I prefer the bar scene to the dinning room most times, however you get much better service at a table than the bar even just for ordering drinks. The bar only seats 12... When I try a Mexican restaurant for the first time, I always read the menu first. Not only for the selections, but also on how they describe them. I shiver with fear when they use terms like "mexican red sauce" or if the slather the entrees with "cheese sauce". To me, this is clear indication that the menu has been dumbed down and not at all authentic. Cinco de Mayo showed signs of this, but I was pleased that the dishes that I sampled had great flavors, and were prepared very well. I don't know what it is with the places I've chosen recently, but I've been wavering between 3 and 4 stars a lot. 3 says A-OK and that's how I feel about Cinco de Mayo. My brother, boyfriend, and I went here on Saturday around 4:00 so it was pretty slow, not many people here at all. It's definitely one of those typical Mexican type restaurants and is kinda dingy and dark, but not in a gross way. The chips and salsa were pretty dang good, liked the flavor of the salsa. It was spicy, but not too crazy. I opted for a margarita on the rocks (boyfriend got the frozen) and both were super tasty. We got the guacamole to start out and I prefer mine more chunky, but this was completely smooth. After, I noticed the menu said guacamole dip, so I forgave them. Still tasted pretty good. For the entree, I got the Enchiladas Supreme which included 4 enchiladas: 1 bean, 1 cheese, 1 beef, and 1 chicken. All of them tasted pretty dang good, although the bean wasn't really my favorite since it didn't have a lot of seasoning. But the sauce that was over the top had a good flavor so that kind of made up for it. Wasn't overly spicy either, which I can appreciate since I'm a little sensitive to that. Overall this is a pretty decent Mexican restaurant with fair prices. I think for two people after taxes (with one margarita) it was only about $35, so definitely not terrible at all. The service is adequate too, definitely no complaints there. If I was in the area, I would definitely stop by again! read more

Look, this is American-style Mexican food. It's inexpensive, tasty and fast. It's not award-winning, but Cinco de Mayo is a great restaurant for families, lunch with co-workers or a casual lunch with friends. My favorites are the taco salad, chile rellenos (cheese is lava-hot, yum!!) and rice & beans. Ask for the hot salsa if you want to really try something spicy.
