You can trust these people. My experiences with Cinder Rock veterinarians, technical staff, and all support staff have been stellar. It's easy to give superior service and care when your pet is healthy and the news is all good. Unfortunately, I had to make the extremely difficult choice to euthanize both of my cats in the past year. Both were patients of Cinder Rock. I had the opportunity to interact with almost all of the vets on staff throughout this very painful period. They always advocated for my cat first and told me what I needed to know in the most compassionate and caring way. One cat was on fluids for a year, and Cinder Rock was always ready with supplies, even when I had to have them mailed. Once, when I thought it was time to say goodbye, the vet walked me through giving my cat more time with quality of life. When it was time to let them both go, the team at Cinder Rock was there in the most loving and beautiful way. A team came to our home and helped us let go and send our beloved animal family members to their next adventure in the best and most loving and supportive experience. The cremation services from Annie's Healing Hearts, who works with Cinder Rock, were just incredible. The cards and other items we received from both of them after the deaths were so touching and lovely. While it could never be easy to travel the final months and weeks with our beloved animal family members I can think of no better veterinary team members to support you and your family. You will hear the truth, with no apparent thought of profit-making, and you will be supported in all of your animal's health care needs, from birth to death. I know our pets are part of our lives but one shouldn't feel they are being taken advantage of because of that. Let's be reasonable. This is absolutely the best vet I've ever been to! We split time between Portland and Bend but have made sure to come to Cinder Rock for all our kitty's needs. The front desk staff is so helpful and kind as are all the Techs we've met with. Vets, JP and Kailie, are both amazing. They clearly love cats and have a good way with them. I haven't worried for a second about the care they give our cats. We've had some bad vet experiences where we left with a complete sense of mistrust. Not at Cinder Rock though! I love the vet I see on a regular basis at Cinder Rock. She's thorough, compassionate and refers you to the experienced surgeons at VRC for complicated procedures/surgeries for which they have more targeted expertise. Support staff and the front office is always friendly and helpful, but I've learned that if you need to talk to a vet on the phone or have a specific prescription question, its best to ask to talk to a vet assistant or the pharmacy directly. Leaving messages with a receptionist doesn't always get through in a timely manner. Lesson learned. I take one star off due to needing to see a secondary vet at Cinder Rock when my primary vet was on maternity leave. I went in thinking my dog had eaten something he shouldn't have, as he was acting off, stopping and lying down during his breakfast, which was something he never did. The vet I saw at Cinder Rock took an Xray and told me there appeared to be nothing causing a blockage in his stomach or gut, but she did mention his back foot, when folded up while standing, wasn't righting itself when he put weight on it. She suggested I see a VRC vet to further investigate and that it might be a spinal issue. I left their office with a feeling of relief that Oscar didn't have an obstruction. I had no idea that the spinal issue would be so serious that Oscar would have only a few weeks left to live, which is exactly what happened. He had an inoperable tumor wrapped around his spinal cord which quickly caused paralysis. He didn't tolerate the meds for pain, and we had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him. I just wish that more emphasis had been put on the spinal issue from the start, and what it might lead to, if only to put it on our radar. It could have been lots of other things besides a spinal tumor, which I get, but it all could have been explained. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. It just all came out of left field and blindsided us with its seriousness. His loss has been devastating for us. He was the best dog ever and he lives on in our hearts. read more

The Doctors and Vet Techs here are amazing and kind. I can tell they love animals. They really made my dogs feel comfortable and happy which made me feel better about taking them to a new clinic. Unfortunately, some of the front desk staff is incredibly rude. I am sure this isn't true, but it certainly feels like they could not care less about your pet. When recently asked for feedback about my pet, I returned a call to give that feedback. The front desk person that I spoke with clearly did not care, and clearly did not make any notes to give to the person who left me a voicemail asking me for this information. I received a second call a day later asking for the same feedback that had already been given to the front desk staff. I again returned the call to provide feedback, only to be met, yet again, with an incredibly rude person. I gave up at this point because I was about to cry, and asked to just talk with the person(s) who left the message in the first place when they have time. Then, I was basically hung up on. I do not understand why they are so mean to people that are only trying to work with the veterinary office in support of their pets health. This is not every member of the front desk, just a few who are really, clearly not happy with their jobs and feel the need to take it out on customers. I work in customer service. It's pretty easy to be a nice person when the person you are speaking with is also being nice. Being rude, condescending, and outright mean are not okay. read more

Dr. Keith is the best in the business. He's knowledgeable, kind, and caring to the animals. I bring both of my dogs to see him. He's very good at explaining treatment plans for my pets. Both of my dogs have had very strange health problems and Dr. Keith is the only vet I trust. Cinder Rock provides AMAZING care. Some of the best doctors I've ever encountered. Unfortunately in my experience, they weren't so great at explaining procedures and prices before the procedures were done. I wasn't given much option which can always make a person feel trapped... stuck between wanting the best care for their animal but unable to pay the bill after. Not realizing it was going to be that expensive and also wondering why some of the procedures tacked onto the bill were even necessary (?). I'm more than willing to pay for good care.... but man they're expensive. I can't help but feeling the last two times I've been in that I've been swindled into exams that weren't really necessary. Of course I'm no doctor, so who's to say? I felt confused and flustered and for that reason alone I'll be taking my animals somewhere else. read more

I can only rate one doctor at Cinder Rock as I've only seen two other minimally and let me say that Dr. Karen is (Woohoo!) as good as it gets. It took me a long time to settle on a vet clinic as I'm extremely picky and always have some kind of complaint about a vet so this review is rather meaningful being that I've been to about ten different ones (mostly in Redmond) in the four years I've been a pet owner. Many people complain that vets push too many things on them--vaccines for everything under the sun, crappy pet food, blood work, fecals, etc. etc. Cinder Rock is no different, but Dr. Karen doesn't make you feel like a bad owner and seems more realistic about client's finances so that we can come up with a good plan for something that fits into the budget. For instance, another vet gave me a quote for having root canals done on my dog's teeth for three grand. Heck, I doubt I'd even do that for myself! Dr. Karen looked at his teeth and basically said if it ain't broke, don't fix it and that we should just keep an eye on them and watch for any signs of pain. If you haven't had much experiences with vets, sticker shock is inevitable. Cinder Rock is a mid-priced vet clinic but I truly believe that Dr. Karen is worth every penny. There are lower cost vets (mostly out of the area) and you get what you pay for. In fact, I went to a low cost clinic three hours away and saved 400.00 on an initial tumor removal. What a mistake! I spent another $600.00 on the emergency vet and Dr. Karen ended up doing a month of aftercare which finally got my dog back on his feet after a botched surgery. I will never make that mistake again.There are also higher priced vets like Redmond Vet Clinic that was literally three times as much as Cinder Rock for bloodwork, and I see no reason to pay that much when quality care is available elsewhere. Cinder Rock is the happy medium. Dr. Karen is professional, open-minded, realistic, passionate, and is genuinely concerned about the well being of the animals under her care. I highly recommend her as a vet that far exceeds others in the area. read more

Very disgusted and disappointed in their boarding services! Why leave your phone number if they don't call you with an update if your pet is not doing well. Our 10 year old family pet didn't eat for 10 days! We provided his food and treats! No phone call! He lost significant weight, his behind was covered with matted feces. The Saturday receptionist was more interested in collecting our money than the health and welfare of our pet. Vet management was suppose to call us on Monday morning about our concerns and they didn't!!! Would NOT recommend! read more

Good work, but more than $200 for a sheath cleaning only? Typically, we've paid $50 for this service and $45-$50 for the farm call (which was split between two horses in this instance). You're more than 2X what "big city boutique clinics" charge. We're NOT made of money and will take our business elsewhere in the future. VERY expensive lesson learned. read more

This is really a great place to take your pets. The staff is so kind and patient with our wild dogs. We had to put one down recently (old girl) and they could not have been any better at helping us through. Dr Karen also helped us get a couple more good years for her when we were almost ready to give up. We have repeatedly asked this clinic to give ONLY one vaccination at a time--the one due and scheduled for. Instead, they have repeatedly given a vaccination when our dog was in for something else, or have given him two vaccinations at one time. I even asked to have that only one vaccination be given at a time be put in our dog's chart, which they did. However, again, today, our dog was given two vaccinations, although I had scheduled him to get ONLY the bordatella vaccination. When my husband called to complain, someone (receptionist?) lied and said that I had requested two vaccinations--untrue! Our dog should not be given any treatment without our knowledge and approval--this is standard medical practice. IF we continue to go to Cinder Rock, I will never let them take my dog out of my sight again. The vets and staff are friendly, but maybe this practice is getting too big to follow through on the (IMPORTANT) details. read more

I recently used Cinder Rock Vet Clinic to complete a pre-purchase exam on a horse I just bought down in Redmond, Oregon. I live near Seattle. Everyone I dealt with was great! Very professional and very responsive. Dr. Paul Edmond conducted the exam and called me prior to the horse's exam and directly following. He spent a lot of time with me on the phone each time and was extremely nice. And to top it off, one of the vet assistants, Katie Brant, drove to the seller's house to drop off the horse's health certificate and Coggins test results ON HER DAY OFF! This was something she offered to do for me since I am up near Seattle and my horse was being delivered in less than a week. It doesn't get any better than that! read more
