I was referred to this place as another Taiwanese place to go around my neighborhood by my foodie sister. I would've never noticed it if it wasn't for her recommendation. They have various kids of traditional dishes and small appetizers you can customize and make into a tasting plate (聠盤). I selected some appetizers and a combo plate and a dish to go. This was the best kung pao chicken and beef tendon soup I've ever had.

I drive to here every month from Brea to get my Chinese food fix. The side dishes are always bomb and they are so generous with their portions - you're also able to mix and match (though they will charge the higher price if the prices are not the same). The inside of the store is small with limited seating and no outdoor seating. If it's busy, we will get the order to go and they always pack it securely with bags and boxes. The prices did increase due to Covid but the portion sizes and the quality has remained consistent. Don't forget to grab a loquat hard candy on your way out! They're so refreshing and so much better than the fortune cookies that other Chinese food places give out. read more

Cute hole in the wall, mom & pop shop. The owner I think, was super friendly and personable and didn't mind that my lil niece put her handprints all over the glass. When i told her she was dirtying it, the gentleman said, its ok, let her play. (And even played peek-a-boo with her). I've been on a beef tendon noodle soup kick and I can honestly say this spot gave me the most BIGGEST pieces of tendons. Other spots give you small 3/4 pieces, not here, there was 5 Huge pieces of tendon, so big that I had to tear them apart to eat. I also like, how they give you a container of chopped pickled mustard greens to add to the soup. The soup isn't over powering, the noodles were chewy and the beef tendon was super soft. My friend wanted to try this place for the cold appetizers, so we came here and ordered a few, along with beef noodle soup and shrimp dumplings in beef soup. The appetizers (pig ear, sliced marinated beef, seawood, and bean curd) were okay in terms of taste and flavor. I prefer those of some other locations. I thought the dishes were pricey for the portion size too. The beef noodle soup and the dumplings were good & traditional in taste. OMG this little hole in the wall resturant is amazing. Each entree was equally as delicious as the next. I've seen Cindy's Kitchen for years as I live right up the hill but never thought to stop by and give it a try. My friend recommended it and said the food has improved quite a bit since the pandemic hit. So glad I listened! The beef noodle soup with tendon is one of the better ones I've had. The flavor of the soup was spot on (definitely add the pickled veg). The spicy tofu, blood and intestine dish has always been one of my childhood favorites. Hidden gem. Really, really hidden. Unless u drive around Colima Rd. In Hacienda Heights, you would never even know this place was there. I went there recommended by my co-worker who is always in search for the next best asian food place, and this mini market / restaurant is actually very, very good. According to my co-worker (and please correct me if I'm wrong) this is a more traditional Taiwanese menu, as authentic as can possibly be. I ordered a beef soup and tho it wasnt my favorite of all times, it was pretty decent for the price. I love my soups to be extra spicy and piping hot, so I guess the day wasnt good enough for HOT soup, (cause it was 90 degrees outside) but I will try another variety next time. Came here for chicken soup to go. The restaurant itself was pretty tiny but neat. They have varieties of cold dishes to go but it is kind of pricey. The chicken soup was a little bland which I would not mind at all because I was sick. I was surprised that they put ham cubes and bamboo shoot into the soup, that was pretty Taiwanese style. The chicken meat though, was mostly chicken wings which I do not like. The waitress was super friendly and provided recommendations of what side dishes to get. I tried their shredded bean curd and baked bran. The baked bran was way too greasy and salty. I do like the shredded bean curd, they add celery for extra crunchiness. This is a really cute place; it's a small Taiwanese mom-and-pop shop that can really only fit 12-15 people. A lot of locals are coming in and out buying frozen dumplings or cold mixed dishes (小菜). I ordered the "Original Beef Noodle Soup" 原汁牛肉麵 which was $9.50. It was a good serving of beef and noodles, pickled vegetables (酸菜) served on the side. The broth tasted clean and beefy; it wasn't too salty. You can either order thick or thin noodles （粗麵活或細麵）and they ask you if they want it spicy or not. I also ordered Hot and Spicy Bean Curd slivers （麻辣香乾）which tasted great because of a little helping of that Chinese staple MSG. The dish was mixed well and the flavors were balanced. When ordering this, I thought that a dish of it would cost around $4.50 because of the sign, but the lady only charged me a dollar extra! She is very sweet; service is efficient and polite. Glad to be brought here by fellow yelper Danica C. Excellent Jia Juang Mien with thick noodles (Minced ground pork with minced tofu with bean sauce and shredded cucumber slices). The noodles tasted freshly made. The dish had the perfect balance of sweet and salty with refreshing cucumber pieces. One of the best Jia Juang Mien that I have had in years. The beef noodles soup was just ok. I did not feel that the soup had enough depth/rich beef flavor, but it did have the same yummy noodles. No idea a place like this existed until a buddy of mine recommended. In fact, he pushed for it for about 2 years before we finally went in to try. Old school Taiwanese spot, with noodles, dumplings, a minced pork rice as the only rice dish, and... some cold dishes. I went with the recommended beef noodle soup, but changed it up and got it with half beef and half tendon. Beef was really tender, but the tendon, wow, they are some cooked down tendon. Super soft, almost melts in your mouth. I dig the beef stock here too. They can adjust the spiciness of the soup, and I went with medium. I can probably go spicy next time. The provide the pickled mustard green on the side so go crazy. Also you get to choose between thin noodle and wide noodle. Tried some of the cold dishes, and the pig ear is probably my favorite. Lots of people order their side dishes to go, and they even sell zhajiangmian sauces on the side. Small spot, so if you have party bigger than 4, it's gonna be tough. Love this place! Being Taiwanese, I often miss home cooked Taiwanese food. It took us a year and a half to find a decent authentic Taiwanese restaurant in our neighborhood when we moved here but this one was well worth the wait. This restaurant is an amazing hole in the wall Taiwanese restaurant/take out place. It is located in a small shopping plaza so parking is limited. Be prepared to park on the side streets and walk during busy hours. The food is authentic and it's been years since we've been able to find great beef noodle soup!! We like the spicy tofu from the deli counter as well as a few other menu items. You can also get some of the food frozen. The prices are fair. Food is always consistent. The only drawback to this place is a few of the employees lack the ability to speak English. I think the owners do all the work themselves here and the servers are all family members. Small local restaurant near my house. My parents told me about it and we went to get dinner here. Really enjoyed the food, it has an authentic taste to it. We got the crispy chicken rice and beef noodle stew. The crispy chicken was nice and moist, and got my dad's approval. Cindy's is an awesome hole in the wall Taiwanese restaurant, and they carry most standard Chinese takeout dishes. They don't deliver but do offer pickup. We've eaten there and picked up, and have been very happy with both. They have amazing homemade dumplings, which you can buy frozen or cooked (we've done both). They also have a deli case of cold dishes. We've ordered a LOT of different dishes there, and have honestly never been disappointed. The food is super flavorful and definitely seems more fresh and less syrupy than some Chinese restaurants. The meat is tender and the veggies are al dente. It's not a super fancy spot, but the prices are very reasonable, and the staff is lovely - always super friendly and accommodating. Was pressed for time so we put in an order to go. I had heard the soybean noodles here are excellent. Supple noodles with blanched bean sprouts and crunchy julienned cucumber with a super flavorful soybean sauce that was salty, sweet, and umami. I'm pretty sure the noodles over cooked during the drive home, but I was pressed for time...I'll take my chances. The house recommended the thick noodles, but I ordered both and I preferred the thin noodles. My dining companions preferred the thick noodles. While we were there, we picked up some items to try in the deli counter. The garlic cucumbers were super crisp and the right amount of garlicky. The lotus root salad had a nice slight kick, but the texture of the lotus root was superb. We loved the shredded bamboo salad, too. I also picked up some frozen dumplings and baos which I steamed in my Instant Pot and they were delicious. My friends preferred the pork bao, while I loved the pork/shrimp/vegetable dumplings...with just a touch of Maggi and chili oil drizzled on top. Service was nice and efficient. They were able to cater to us because we were the only people in the shop. There are a lot of items in their pre-made "deli" counter that I look forward to trying next time. It's a really small place, in a really "obscure" location, and when I entered, the person behind the counter seemed surprised I was in there, which I thought weird since it is a restaurant. Anyway, there is nothing written in English as far as the menu, although the person behind the desk spoke English just fine. I got the chicken noodle soup since that what was recommended by others on yelp. Overall, it was pretty good and I might go there again if I were craving it, but for the $8, I think there are better options out there. There are so few places that serve the Taiwanese dish wu geng chang wang (五更肠旺), as stew that is spicy, savory, sour and occasionally a little sweet, filled with intestines, tofu, preserved vegetables and pig blood. The ingredients could be suspect to the uninitiated, but in the right hands, these disparate ingredients can be quite addictive. Nice Time Cafe (Monterey Park) serves it, but it is way too sour (from the preserved vegetables) and lacks enough sugar to balance out all the flavors, coming off as a bit spoiled. Jiang Nan Spring (Alhambra) also offers a rendition but it tended to having too much black pepper flavor. Chef's China Kitchen (Rowland Heights) offers a decent version but isn't as good as its now-closed sister restaurant, Good Eats. With all that being said, Cindy's Kitchen does a decent job here, though it is missing a bit of sweetness. It is definitely a worthwhile version to try if you are in the mood. Other than that, their cold dishes looked great but come off as a bit under-seasoned. The marinated cold beef dish is tasty, full of spicy Szechuan flavors, though coming off as a bit more muted than Yunnan Restaurant in Monterey Park. We also tried a tea-smoked pork intestine cold dish. It was definitely interesting but unexpected, similar in flavor profile to tea-smoked duck or chicken. All in all, they do a good job with their intestines, not having any off flavors. We also tried their lu rou fan which was fine, but not memorable. Similarly, their fried pork cutlet was fine but tasted more like Japanese tonkatsu than Taiwanese marinated deep fried pork chops. The people here are nice and it is a nice little Mom n' Pop restaurant which deserves your support, especially in these trying times. For us, the star is really the wu geng chang wang. read more
