Came to Garden Bistro for their weekend breakfast special and really enjoyed it. I'm always interested in trying their weekend specials since they usually have something a little different from the regular menu, and this one didn't disappoint. For $17.50, the special comes with a French-style roast beef panini, shrimp and fish ball rice vermicelli in creamy chicken soup, plus hot coffee or tea. Honestly, it's a pretty good amount of food for breakfast. The roast beef panini was really good. The bread was nicely toasted, and the roast beef was tender and flavorful. Simple, but everything worked well together. The rice vermicelli was also better than I expected. I wasn't sure how I would feel about noodles in a creamy chicken soup for breakfast, but it actually worked! The soup was creamy and comforting without being too heavy, and there was a good amount of shrimp and fish ball to go with the noodles. I also have to mention the service. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and we were taken care of throughout the meal. Nothing felt rushed, which is always nice when you're trying to enjoy a relaxing weekend breakfast. Overall, good food, great service, and a nice weekend breakfast for $17.50. I like that Garden Bistro changes things up with these specials instead of offering the same thing every weekend. We wanted to get dimsum but the wait was way too long. I remember Garden Bistro was always solid so we came here instead. Saturday afternoon maybe a 10 minute wait. Their menu is expansive. Portions are always hearty. I ordered 3 dishes knowing full well we wouldn't finish it. - lunch special bbq pork with two eggs over rice. I was actually impressed with the roast pork! It was flavorful and had a good chew. Not melt in your mouth soft but better than a lot of other places. Very good for under $17. - Singapore vermicelli noodles - had a nice curry kick. The noodle was very dry but that's how I like it. I love the shrimps, it was plump and juicy. The roast pork was flavorful. - margarita pizza - been meaning to try their western menu and thought pizza was a good start. The pizza was actually not too bad! It came out piping hot and fresh but the tomato sauce was cold. Weird. They probably spooned on the sauce and cheese after letting the dough cook first. The dough was really really good! I also got a red bean ice - not enough ice and not sweet enough. And I never complain about sweetness and most drinks are too sweet for me. Excellent place to enjoy Hong Kong style cafe food! On weekends from 3PM-5:30PM, they offer an excellent afternoon team late lunch menu which is under $13! Great wide selection of cafe style dishes, so filling you have enough for a snack later =] We ordered: Minced Beef & Egg on Rice - Very light savory in flavoring which is nice for lunch so you don't feel guilty. I had enough to take home to make more sunny side up eggs to enjoy it with Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs - Comes with a large side of jasmine rice. The sour and sweet sauce is just right, not overpowering in flavor on one spectrum. There are bones on some of the ribs FYI. The sauteed vegetables is a great balance to the rib meat. Baked Sole Fillet & Spinach in Cream Sauce - I chose pasta which hit the carb crave I was having. They had big chunks of sole fillet to balance the creamy sauce. I would recommend adding a bit of pepper if you want some adjustments to the flavoring. I have been to the various Garden Cafe locations over the years, but this was my first time at Garden Bistro. It's essentially the same food, except they serve more fusion items (ie Italian style pastas & pizzas). Getting here to dine in is an adventure in itself. It's located in Diamond Plaza and parking is never fun coming here. We were actually able to find a spot not too far away so we lucked out. I headed in first to get a table because I saw a bunch of people standing out the door, and when I told the host that i needed wheelchair accessible seating, he immediately let me sit at the side table by the restroom, which was perfect and had plenty of room for my son to roll to. At these establishments you usually don't get good service, and my expectations were low, but the service we received was surprisingly great!! Our host/server was super attentive and came by a lot. He even gave us complimentary soup (menu said the soup is $2.50 with your meal)! There are over 137 items on the menu so there is plenty to choose from. We ordered: Create Your Own pizza Yang Chow Fried Rice Grilled Chicken Steak w/ Black Pepper Sauce Sweet &Sour Pork Rib HK style Most everything we had was good. Nothing super special, but standard HK style cafe good. The pizza was disappointing. Maybe I should've ordered their menu pizzas instead of creating my own. The toppings I picked were ok (the turkey on the pizza was deli sandwich slices), but the tomato sauce base was too thick and acidic, which kind of ruined the pizza for us. I don't think they used a proper pizza sauce, it lacked any seasoning or depth, and tasted like tomato sauce straight from a can. I went here on a Sunday at noon with family, and there was only a five-minute wait. We ordered the grilled ahi tuna field green salad, grilled chicken steak, and prime rib. The food came out quickly, so service was good. It was also easy to flag down our server for something. The restaurant was quite loud as each table was occupied. The prime rib was tasty at medium rare, but we found a lot of fatty parts and cartilage. We thought the meat quality was just adequate, so it's probably best to order prime rib elsewhere. I shared a big dinner with my Dad because he couldn't finish the whole plate, neither do I loll Food was delicious as always, The full dinner set came with soup and salad, choice of wine or juice. I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. Parking was difficult to find around noon, and the food didn't really meet my expectations. I order their combo Lemongrass porkchop with lemon ice tea, and my friend ordered the pork knuckle with rice. The pork had a gamey taste that made it seem less fresh, and the spaghetti was served cold. First time and it was pretty good. The baked pork chop with rice was solid and had good flavor. The surprise hit was the eel pizza! It had delicious pieces of eel and fresh arugula on top with bits of seaweed. Eve the crust was good - soft but also had bite to it. I would definitely come back for this one. The vermicelli Singapore noodles were only okay. It needed a better spicy chili sauce to make the flavor come out more and was a little dry. The other two dishes are keeping the rating higher and I'd like to try out some other things before making a final verdict. Service was okay - not great but not bad. Second visit, the menu is still the same. Lots of options. Chinese Broccoli with oyster sauce: the Chinese broccoli is fresh, the seasoning is not too heavy. A great veggie options. Wild mushroom and angus beef with tofu in hot pot: there's actually not much of mushrooms in this hot pot, most are just tofu. This does come with rice on the side. Baked seafood in cream sauce: a good amount of seafood, a nice option for a one-person meal. Shrimp and egg on rice: there's a lot more rice than the shrimp and egg on top. So I ended up having just white rice on the bottom. The service was good, employees were helpful and welcoming. Everyone gets a free soup, we didn't get this on our last visit. Overall, Garden Bistro is not a bad option if you are looking for a Hong Kong style cafe. It won't give you surprises (and Wow factors), but won't let you down. read more

The fact that you can get chicken and a steak for $20 puts this place up for four stars. The service is nice and good and drinks come out very fast. It's a place to get food for a good price they have so many deals and a large selection to choose from. The Swiss wings weren't my favorite but that's because I don't like sweet wings. Have been going to the Garden Cafe in Alhambra for almost thirty years; first time coming to this Garden Bistro inside the Diamond Plaza in Rowland Heights. The restaurant was really busy already at around 11am on a Sunday. We got the last small two person table while other bigger parties were on waiting list. The ambiance was vibrant and cheerful. Servers were really helpful and pleasant. Menu was really huge, with a lot of specials. They serve pizza, which is different from the Alhambra location. Their pizzas feature Italian Classics and Asian Flavors (Chinese Beijing Duck, Japanese, Thai, etc.) which is pretty interesting. Will have to try it next time. They also had a Roasted Sea Salt Angus Prime Rib which might have been a weekend special. Other than those, the menus are pretty similar for the two locations. The two of us just got off a cruise and were not particularly hungry. We just wanted some Hong Kong style comfort food. We shared a Singapore Style Vermicelli and a Curry Ox Tongue with Pasta. Portions were really generous and we went home with lots of leftovers good for another meal. The Curry Ox Tongue came with five huge slices of tender ox tongue, and the curry was really tasty. Afternoon Tea special menu is served daily from 3-5:30pm. The Afternoon Tea menu has limited offerings. Portions are smaller but it comes with hot tea, coffee or milk tea. Thinking about it now, this has a very similar taste and texture to "lobster sauce" found in a lot of Chinese American restaurants. This dish was expertly prepared. It was just a little bland, a pinch of salt would have helped. I was really happy that they use good, fragrant jasmine rice. Pork Lard Wonton Noodles: 2.5/5 I got this because I'm greedy, but also because this was one of their specials. Maybe because we came right before closing, but it was really bad. The soup was fishy, watery, and lukewarm. The wontons also tasted old and off for a lack of better terms. Everything was greasy in an unpleasant way. The greens and noodles were cooked well though. Borscht: 3/5 A plain vegetable soup. Tasted tomatoey. No more notes. Lemon Iced Tea: 2.5/5 Bland, not sweet, not lemony. It had that flavor I would expect from a Hong Kong cafe, but it was just really muted. Again, since they were closing, maybe they diluted my drink so they wouldn't have to make a new batch, but it was really meh. Ambiance: Casual. We caught this restaurant in a very Italian time in its life. Service: Chinese restaurant service. Some things were fast, some things were slow, but it was efficient. This restaurant focuses on Chinese-Western fusion. It has a cool concept and a pretty diverse menu. It can get very busy, so I'd recommend showing up early if you don't want a long wait. Parking is also a bit of a nightmare, there are very limited spots. Service was alright as with most Asian restaurants. We tried the Beijing Duck Pizza, which sounded promising, but it ended up being pretty mid. The duck kind of got lost in all the toppings and cheese, and the unique flavor you'd expect from Beijing duck just didn't shine through. Had a great experience dining at Garden Bistro! I chose to come here since they had some classic Chinese/HK dishes but also some fusion options. I came with my family as a party of 7, knowing that they mostly ate chinese food they're picky but they really enjoyed the food. My mom kept saying "not bad" which means it's great. #6 seafood linguine with tomato sauce: pasta was cooked al dente and the seafood was fresh. there was a good variety of seafood. the tomato sauce was a bit bland and i didn't taste much pesto. overall it was still good just don't expect it to taste like authentic italian pasta #17 duck pizza: i definitely tasted the smokey duck flavor. the arugula was a nice bitterness to the savory/sweet. the dough could be a bit crispier but it was good to try. #128 sweet and sour pork: best dish out of the ones we ordered. good meaty pieces and the perfect amount of sweet, sour and savory. #113 chinese broccoli: cooked well and came with hoisin sauce. just as expected. #120 braised cod dish: this was a clay pot type of dish. probably one of my favorites, good portion of cod but quality could be a tad better. tofu and other toppings tasted good together, well seasoned and saucy. #185 yang chow fried rice: rice was a little dry, so it was average, i would probably skip this and order something else. #56 pork chop cutlet: crispy and big portion. came with tartar sauce. it was average. The food came out really quick although it was super packed. They have a big variety of menu items so it was a bit overwhelming to choose from but all the options we tried were pretty good for the most part. Just for the breakfast/brunch menu, there are alot of items you can choose from to create your perfect brunch. I typically get HK chow fun with a pineapple bun (dressed with an egg and butter). If you go with others, they can choose their own and share. Despite eating like the world is ending, I never finish and always have a snack leftover for me later on in the day. Did I mention that it comes with a coffee...with free refills...that they give you a to-go cup for?! INSANE. You kind of have to get the waiter's attention, since they're usually busy. However, they do attend to you quickly, once you tell them what you want. There's lots of tables inside. The menu is vast here. You have a lot of options to chose from, whether you crave Italian, American, or Chinese food. It might be overwhelming with the unlimited amount of choices, but they do have a top 10 dish menu. That's nice if you're underdecided on what to order. My favorite dishes to get at Hong Kong cafes is the baked sole filet in cream sauce. The first bite of hot and cheesy rice with some filet in cream sauce just warms my soul! Also, the seasoning of the baked dish is just right. Sometimes the rice can be a bit undercooked though. I do enjoy eating here, to come back again. garden bistro is a hong kong style fusion cafe. i dined here a couple of times before, but now i usually just get takeout for the seafood linguine with tomato basil sauce. however, today i decided to dine in. the food is usually really good here and the price is reasonable for the portion size. baked spinach and sole : (4/5) - the sauce on this is so creamy and smooth. the cheese part gives it a little tang and with the fish in it, it makes the dish taste extra flavorful and savory. however, we got pasta with this (to try something different), which i do not recommend. get it with the rice instead. the rice would absorb all the juices and taste way better. rice is the way to go for this dish!!!! seafood linguine with tomato basil sauce : (5/5) - the BEST item here, in my honest opinion. the sauce is so aromatic with the basil and tangy as well with the tomato. the amount of seafood (clam, mussel, scallop, shrimp, sole, squid) to pasta is a good ratio. at the end, i like using the bread to eat up all the sauce. though, the service can be a bit inconsistent especially if you do not speak cantonese or mandarin leading to them being a bit inattentive. nonetheless, they are still nice and well mannered :) read more

Bad service tonight on Friday 7/24. Actually, change that to no service. The only reason they finally came to our table was because another customer who came in after us TOLD THEM to get our order because we had been waiting before others. What?!?!? Forgot all about our table and didn't check on us through dinner. The final kicker?? At the end they sure did come by our table very frequently when it came to collecting the check and the tip. Check your bill!!! Be aware that they calculate tip on top of the total bill instead of the subtotal. Who tips on the tax? I still tipped even though I got no service but I really regret it. The food was mediocre and especially with the bad service I need to warn others to skip this place if you come inside this Diamond Plaza. I visited Garden Bistro for breakfast and ordered the NY Steak special and the grilled rib-eye. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. Our server didn't ask how we wanted the steaks cooked and seemed inattentive, which led to both dishes arriving rare--borderline raw--and slightly warm like it was barely cooked. We had to send them back to be cooked further. When the meals returned, they were still underwhelming. The steaks lacked any flavor, and the quality of the meat tasted very cheap. The omelet that came with the NY Steak was also bland and not very enjoyable. I ended up finishing the steak just so I'm not hungry but left most of the omelet untouched.
