The first time I tried it, I wasn't a big fan but I decided to give it another try & it was a lot better than my first experience. I usually only ever order pho tai so I've tried a variety from different establishments. The broth was very rich & flavorful but had a lot of fat. The meat was just alright. It didn't taste or have the texture of the tai meat slices that I'm usually accustomed to. It was all clumped up and required some breaking apart before I could eat it. Absolutely stunning, just gazing at the coloring, nothing overpowering, peppers, fennel, coriander, anise evenly distributed in the body, all extremely subtle, no hints of one herb or spice trying to take the spotlight ...... this beautiful fusion of fats, spices and Umami intertwined in the soup had equally steeped into the meats. However, I definitely felt like I traveled 100-150 years back to an early Teochew (潮州) village in Vietnam, and this was some sort of long lost recipe from the early Fujjan Teochew Settlers in Vietnam; the soup base is Alot different here having that Cantonese Fujjan/ Teochew influence. Which begs the question...maybe the owners are Viet Chinese. But that's not the point. This is undoubtedly some of the best Pho I think anyone will get. And to be honest and fair, I last reviewed Pho & Broth in Ontario, it was closer to the style of Pho Ive come to enjoy in Denver Colorado at Pho 555. This is a legendary spot from Orange County that finally made its way closer to me. Back in the day, I would literally drive an hour and then wait another 2 hours just to eat here. The hype is definitely still real. I came once on a weekend and the wait was easily 2 to 3 hours long. For pho. That's commitment. That said, I also came on a weekday around 5pm and there was no wait at all, which was a much better experience. The pho here is really good and has become one of my preferred spots. The broth is flavorful, the quality is consistent, and it reminds me why people are willing to wait so long for it. These days I've figured out a better strategy. Instead of waiting in line, I order it to go and ask for the noodles uncooked so I can prepare everything at home. Overall, I'm just glad Phoholic finally opened closer to the SGV. For months, I have heard about PhoHolic and the anticipated opening for this restaurant. I was finally able to visit this past weekend and I will elaborate below on why my review is so much lower than other Yelpers. #14 Brisket, Flank, Fatty Flank, Tendon, and Tripe Pho w/ flat noodles $16.60 For a group of 5 on Saturday morning, we were able to be seated as we walked into the restaurant, which was a huge surprise. Even though there are tables and chairs directly straight, they sat us at a half booth, half table with chairs. It was not the most convenient or most comfortable as the backs to the booth were a bit far, but there sure was plenty of room. Even the chairs were spaced too closely, especially to the kitchen and I worried every time an employee walked by with bowls of hot pho... It just takes one misstep and the hot pho will be poured onto us at the table. Since it was everyone's first time there, dining in, PhoHolic sure has their own take on service. Once you sit down, sauces are delivered to you, along with the condiments. We mentioned 5 people, but they placed only settings for 4 so had to ask them for an extra setting. After ordering, they brought 3 bowls of soup, which confused the rest of us as there was 5 of us. We flagged down a server to ask, and apparently, it was complimentary. We had to ask for 2 extra bowls as we are not a family, and even if so, the 5 of us are not going to be scooping out of 3 bowls. As I was drinking the complimentary soup, there was plastic in my soup (attached picture). I mentioned it to the server, he just said "sorry" and nothing else. I don't think management was even notified. With the way that the booths are set-up, delivering our hot bowls of pho to each of us was also a bit dangerous. Again, all it takes is one mistake and I would have had pho spilled all over me as well. Other than the sauces brought to us, along with the complimentary soup and pho, our water was never refilled (and these are very small cups) and no server came to check up on us. When we requested to-go boxes, the server was not calculating it correctly prior to bringing the containers and we had to ask another server for 1 more. Also, one does not ask for the check, one goes to the front of the restaurant and mentions the table number, which we did not know because it was our first time there and no one told us. They also do not split checks, as mentioned on the hostess stand. There are also no paper menus for to-go, so make sure to take a photo of the menu! The soup and flavors were great, and can tell there was not much MSG in the broth. It was clear and refreshing. The tendon cut (or lack of a cut) was very generous. Would have preferred a bit more refined portion and more within the soup as some may have chewing issues with the thick tendon. The tripe was very thinly sliced and soft. I do like how one can choose between small noodles or flat/fresh noodles. For service, I would not expect to be tipping them the normal as I felt service was very minimal. Although there were many servers around, I felt they were standing around more than anything. Management was not notified of the foreign object in our soup. Food-wise, besides the plastic, it was good but I don't know if I would frequent PhoHolic often for my pho fix. Found out about PhoHolic in Westminister and really enjoyed it so was excited for its opening in Rowland! PARKING Plenty of free parking in this plaza with lots of tables available. They laid out hoisin and sriracha in individual cups along with sweet onions, limes, bean sprouts, and Thai basil leaves. FOOD Noodles were cooked to perfection and the soup was hearty although a bit too sweet and oily with what tastes like msg. The steak came on the side which was interesting but quite tender. Saw the soft opening sign, so came by to check it out on a weekday during lunch time. Even on a weekday during lunch, this place was pretty crowded and there were a handful of groups ahead of us. However we were able to be seated within 10min. The menu is a bit different than your typical pho restaurants as it only has pho and some drinks (fruit teas and milk tea). For the pho menu, it has different type of phos based on the ingredients you want (steak, brisket, meat ball, etc). You can also substitute one ingredient for another to your liking. Pricing wise, there is only one size and all pho are $16.50 a bowl. You can add extra ingredients for another extra charge as well. For the noodle, you have the option of choosing either thin/small noodle or wide/flat noodle. I ordered number 11 (steak, flank, tendon, tripe, and meatball (substituted for the fatty flank meat) with thin/small noodle. The broth is a bit sweeter than your normal pho soup, which I assume it is more of Southern Vietnam style pho? There were plenty of ingredients in the broth, so great value as well! Love seeing PhoHolic expand out of OC. I have been to their Westminster, Stanton, and Costa Mesa locations and I was so happy to see them expand to Hacienda Heights. This location is a larger location with modern décor, but the same delicious food and affordable pricing. Even in their grand opening stage, they are already extremely busy. I was talking to other guests and they were also original fans of their OC locations and happy to see them closer. We waited under 15 minutes for a seat. Once you are seated, the experience is quick to order and receive your food. Most of their Pho is $16.50 with the exception of the special ones with Oxtail that's $17.50 or if you decide on add-ons. My boyfriend had the Tai Nam Sach Bo Vien with the small noodles. I had the Tai Nam Bo Vien with the fresh noodles. Vegetables are included. You also get complimentary iced tea, hot tea, or water with your meal. Deliciousssss pho. They were already one of the top pho spots in OC. They will most definitely be the best out here in the Hacienda Heights area. The broth is well developed. The meat is plentiful and high quality. The portion is generous, we both had enough for a subsequent meal. When you are done with your meal, you pay in the front. With the modern set up I think some customers were waiting for the check. We came to this PhoHolic early Friday evening for some Pho after hearing they had opened a location in Hacienda Heights. I had personally enjoyed the pho from PhoHolic at their Westminster, Costa Mesa, and Stanton locations, and am a big fan. We were worried there may be a long wait but we were sat right away for a party of 6. One thing that struck me immediately was how modern and intentional the decor and interior design of the restaurant was. I've noticed that as each new location opens, they get nicer and nicer. The Westminster location for example is pretty barebones, while this new location was quite nice, almost like a whole different restaurant. The other thing that hits you the moment you walk in is the smell. Even more so than other restaurants in its category, the smell of PhoHolic's broth fills the room with the intense aroma of its spices. One small complaint we had was that the table seemed quite small for 6. We were sat at one of the round tables with a curved booth and two chairs. The table itself wasn't very small but in terms of space to eat it did feel a bit cramped. Unlike the other locations, our beverages (water and free iced tea) were brought automatically to the table in pitchers. This made getting our drinks refilled even easier! We ordered a variety of pho, including their popular #14 combination as well as their oxtail pho. As always, the pho was absolutely as good as expected. Some nitpicks about PhoHolic I've noticed sometimes is that some of their meat is at times not the most tender, and that their noodles can get soggy a little bit quickly. In my experience, because the bowls are so loaded, and it can take a little bit of time to dress it with herbs, lemon, etc. if the noodles aren't slightly undercooked before arriving they will end up softened quite fast. That being said, these issues are hardly any large impact on the eating experience. There isn't much that can negate the quality that's embodied by the broth at PhoHolic. It perfectly navigates the balance between rich beefy flavor and a spiced aroma, all while being quite light. They've clearly got the execution of their pho down to a science, and this location is just another example of that rule rather than an exception. read more

Came here for some pho. Luckily it wasn't packed when we came. We ordered the breed brisket pho and the bowl was large. It included lots of brisket and a full bowl of pho noodles. You have your choice of thin original noodles of thin flat noodles. We ordered one of each because I didn't understand the waitress. For the amount of money you pay for you get a full tummy when you leave. The noodles were cooked perfectly and most of the brisket were tender except for a couple of pieces. The broth was flavorful but why don't they use lime instead they use lemon for some reason. The colors are soft in the eating area and the seats cushioned and it doesn't feel rushed at all like a typical pho restaurant. The servers are constantly checking on us which is positive in my book. The pho is still good and still same concept of 1 price pho and pick your own toppings (with the exception of oxtail which has extra cost) and choice of noodle... however the service is just so lackluster and they're so frugal/skimpy that it just really kills the vibes. Doesn't match their fancy decor at all. Instead of sauce bottles, each person gets a mini cup of hoisin and sriracha sauce. You also get one thin napkin PER PERSON. Hot tea? One cup per person and you'll never see a server again for a refill. The food came and tasted good, but once soup starts splattering the napkin gets soaked/dirty in seconds. Got sauce on your hands? Napkin gone. Other places that don't have the napkin dispenser typically have thicker napkins where you can fold around it or open it up in different ways. This is simply way too thin it's not like that. This is the super disposable togo-order napkin type. The kind that people put in the dispensers. While we were eating one of us swallowed soup a little too quickly and started coughing. Usually no problem, but by this point we were out of napkins and she was out of tea. By this point we've already tried to get someone's attention 3-4 times. The servers are INCREDIBLY good at tunnel vision where they walk up to a table, take their order or place food down, and make no eye contact with any other table. We had hands up (not obnoxiously arms high... but still hand raising usually good enough to get attention) trying to get extra napkins and tea and it took a good 4-5 tries to make eye contact. (Note: We were table 26 in the back corner). And when they did get us the extras, we got another exact count of napkins per person. (That was fine though, we didn't need a 3rd round of napkins since we got them so late. But wooow do they take these napkins seriously) Now I'm used to Asian style places so I don't expect a server hovering around.... But for it to be THAT hard to get someone's attention? That's not right. And also, when you ask for more hot tea they ask how many, so at some point I thought I was paying for it but it's fine I'm thirsty. They don't refill via tea pot, just bring you another small cup. (But yes, hot tea is free and we were not charged) It's just so disappointing when you go out to eat and just feel ignored in the corner. How hard is it to give an extra couple of napkins if you knew you'd never walk by again. Or invest in thicker napkins if you want to limit. No hot water kettle for the table? Fine but maybe walk by the table at least once and ask if they want some more? Or ask if they want water in the beginning too? Like if you were never going to show up again couldn't you at least leave us stocked and ready?? With all the fancy decor and pretty interior + with them having just opened.. I guess I expected too much. And this is just me being picky but I wasn't a fan of the lemons instead of limes. It's just... not the same. Also we got unlucky with our lemon slice because one squeeze (it was a very soft lemon) and all the lemon pulp fell into the soup and we had to scoop it out. Overall the pho itself was fine, no complaints about the noodle or meat or broth etc at all. It's the overall experience with the service and frugalness that sucked. Also before phoholic used to be a "cheap" pho place when it was around $13 a bowl... but now it's comparable to other places so I don't know if I like it enough to come back. Phoholics in Rowland Heights is such a great addition. I used to drive all the way out to Orange County for this, so having a location closer by is a huge win. The quality is exactly what I was hoping for. Same rich broth, same generous portions, same pricing even with how things are these days. The pho here is still some of the best in SoCal. The beef bone with tendon is a standout and the meat in the bowl is super flavorful. Service was quick and efficient, which made the whole experience even better. Parking is free and there's plenty of it, so no stress there. The space itself feels modern and clean, and it's actually quiet enough to have a normal conversation without shouting over noise. PhoHolic in Hacienda Heights is now open!! They took over the old Corner Bakery, next to Meet Fresh in the 99 Ranch Plaza on Azusa. Their menu is pretty simple. Choose which meat(s) you want and whether you want small or thick noodles. I recommend #1 with small noodles. There is only one portion size, and I think they serve a lot of food per bowl. Service is pretty efficient, considering they are newly opened. I've already been twice - once dining in and once taking out. Both times I saw long lines! Parking is plentiful. Phoholic is a new tasty pho spot. Phoholic offers a variety of different pho options and you can mix and match your meat pairing based on the menu. I opted for the #16 and it was good. I will say the meat quality is very good ranging from steak to tendon. Everything is also separate - meaning onion, bean sprouts, jalapenos, lemon, and basil can all be added at your preference! The flavor of the soup is very good, but nothing exceptional compared to other pho spots I've been. I will say the meat quality boosts this place plus there is free hot and iced tea while you dine in. I also didn't see any appetizers on the menu and all Pho is one size so keep it in mind if you're a big eater. There's plenty of parking and the staff is nice with quick service. We waited for about 30mins and were seated with a simple, no frills menu. The menu only has pho and drinks. That's right, no appetizers and no other dishes. Excellent service, everyone was very friendly! They mainly serve different types of pho. We had the brisket pho and beef with tendon pho, it was very tasty and came with the original another leaf that you add to your soup asides the basil (which I heard is very authentic). It was my First time at PhoHolic with my aunt who has never tried pho before, and we enjoyed it. The menu has many options and is broken down in a easy way to help decide what meats you want. For a newbie, my aunt chose steak and flank. I chose 14 I believe it was that was similar to class pho dac biet with tripe and tendon...mmmmmm. Broth was hearty and delicious. You also get to choose between thin or flat/thicker noodles. The interior is spacious and modern design. Staff was friendly and offer sauce in plastic ramekins.
