If you're bringing more company, the Gansu Spicy Pot is an amazing deal, it's super huge and flavorful! You view the menu and order through a QR code at your table. There's a self service station where you can grab water, bowls, utensils, sauces/seasonings, and to-go containers. They don't ask for tip here, but the staff still came by and checked on us during our meal, which was nice! Additionally, we love the ambience here. My wife and I eat here fairly frequently. We've been patrons since their original location in Hacienda Heights. The food here is just exceptional. We can't give the place enough praise. The lamb dishes here are exquisite. They just know how to make it so packed with flavor that we crave it quite frequently. The beef is equally great too but the lamb here is just next level. We've never tried anything like it. I think to truly enjoy the place, order any of their lamb dishes. This is how you'll gauge the quality of meat and their cooking. Ordering something that's not their specialty and reviewing that feels like reviewing ice cream from a non-specialty ice cream shop. The overall service here is great. There's a reason why we're always here. The ambiance here is nice too. Live music, instruments all over, and a beautiful wall of all the customers who visit. We were there on a Friday night around 7; there was a short wait. It was very pleasant even during the wait because there was live music. Since this was our first time there, we tried some recommendations from the yelp reviews. They were all very good with the exception of their lamb skewers. The Yongchang Rd night market beef chow mein (non-spicy) was exactly what I was looking for since I didn't want something oily this day -- yes I know, all their signature dishes feature oil. The Lanzhou Lamb Burger was really good and was packed with meat. Highly recommend that dish. As far as the Lanzhou potato noodle, that wasn't for me. The noodle texture is great but the sauce was like two cups of oil that didn't have much depth of flavor except salt. It looked spicy but wasn't at all. It looked like a soup but it was literally all oil. I love oily foods such as Sichuan cuisine but this was just too much oil that I resorted to just eating the noodle while all the minced meat and other ingredients got lost in the pool of fat. The lamb skewers were seasoned and cooked so well, there was no gamey taste to it. The chow mein was very flavorful and it was not your average chow mein. It was rich in flavors and had a hint of coolness in it. The shredded potatoes was a nice touch to balance all the flavors. The milk tea is very creamy and unique. I also ordered the tea to try out and it was very soothing and feels refreshing after eating the food. The environment reminded me of a street night market where it was self service. To order the food, you must order through a QR code and all the cups/utensils are in the middle where you go grab yourself. Also no tips are needed. Aipapa also hosts magic nights too where you can buy the tickets on the QR code. The environment is a great place to hang out with friends or watch one of their shows that they offered. They also have live music there too. For parking, there wasn't an issue because it was a shared lot and there was a lot of spaces. The noodles are a good (shorter) length though so this isn't as big of an issue. You can choose the spice level. Lamb burger - I think this looks good. I was a little surprised that most of the lamb doesn't actually fit in the bread. It's a good thing though. After eating the burger, you still have lamb to eat. The restaurant is located inside Great China Plaza, in the spot where the former Xinjiang restaurant used to be. The three of us ordered the lamb vermicelli soup, stir-fried shredded potatoes, malatang, yogurt, and lamb skewers. The lamb soup was incredibly authentic--rich yet clear, and the tender boiled lamb dipped in spices was deeply satisfying. Every dish we tried was delicious, especially the potatoes and yogurt. The lamb skewers had a bit too much seasoning for our taste, but overall we were all very pleased with the meal. We're already planning to come back on a weekend to enjoy the live band performances. I believe it's the same owner as Ma's Kitchen, the decor, the set up, and the live music is all the same. Very lively restaurant and overall fun to go to. Parking can get kinda fisted since it's a busy plaza and there's a waitlist when we went on a weekday night, but we were seated in under 15 minutes. The ordering system is via a QR code at the table and food came out decently quickly. Plates were cleared out of the way very efficiently as well. We got the: 1) Lanzhou Potato Noodles: -Comes with an entire hard boiled egg, roasted peanuts, ground beef, and of course the super chewy delicious potato noodles. Nice chewy texture that absorbed the oily chili broth nicely. Make sure not to spill on your shirt! 2) Lamb Bing: -This is a "Chinese lamb burger". Seasoned lamb cubes inside. A bit dry for the bread part, but the meat inside is tender and they don't skimp on it. Pieces were falling out when we were taking some bites, but no worries, just pick them up afterwards. 3) Spicy Potato Slices: -Comes in the same broth as the potato noodles The chili oil broth. Comes with lots of potato slices in it. Nice cold dish, potato slices had a slight crunch to them. I love getting this as an appetizer. 4) Lanzhou Three Fort Tea: -Comes out piping hot. Very strongly steeped tea with some floral and fruity notes to it. After steeping it even longer, it has a bit of a medicinal herbal taste to it, but I'm sure it tastes great if you have a sore throat or need something warm on a cold day. 5) Lanzhou Grilled Flat Bread: -Can NEVER go wrong with grilled bread. It's nice and toasted with some charred edges and heavily seasoned with their sauce and chili flakes and cumin. A bit dry (not as dry as the lamb bing), but you can always dip it in the chili oil broth. Loved this. 6) AiPaPa Yogurt: -Naturally sweetened with honey and has some jujubes in it. -Comes out mega cold though, so careful if you have sensitive teeth, but it does taste like a better and healthier yogurt since it's not as sweet and has a stronger tart yogurt flavor to it. -Not bad and good for digestion. The menu is definitely much more limited than the previous Ma's Kitchen, and I guess they do that so they can focus more on the menu items that they currently have. Overall, delicious! read more

So we came here and we went with a group of friends, so there was six of us in total. Restaurant is not fit for very large crowds. It's more intimate, but they were able to put together a couple tables for us fairly quickly. The restaurant service is Moore. Do it yourself. So you scan a QR code and place your order. There is someone that brings the food out, but there is a no tipping policy. You use self serve with the utensils sauce and even water. You can always order a soft drink self serve as well. At first, I was intimidated as the red spice looks very spicy. But it's more a mutated heat that was just flavor rather than actual things spicy like a pepper. The food was delicious! My boyfriend and I shared a traditional lamb soup and a lamb sandwich. the soup was reminiscent of a Vietnamese Pho, but had a deep flavorful taste to it! I highly recommend getting this and upgrading the bread to the spiced one! But if you don't, get the sauce and dip it. The sandwich we got not spicy but the sauce on the side helped that a lot! During dinner came the surprise ! First when you walk in there's a little stage with lots of instruments and that was cool! Turns out they have a partnership and you can even buy the instruments! They have live music. You can even sign up and play! After a few songs all of a sudden, you could hear a saxophone play and it was more alive than it did on a soundtrack. All sudden you see someone in the corner and they're playing the saxophone!! I believe he is the owner, but the music and ambience is amazing. Unpleasant experience today for lunch. I was number 4 on the waitlist. Asked the staff how long my wait would take and they said under 20 minutes. We were standing outside maybe 2 doors down and waiting for the text message notification. Within 10 min, I get a text message and run back to the restaurant to check in. Turns out they gave my table away to another customer just as I arrived and they sat them down before me. I was furious!! WHAT THE HECK??? How can the instant that you text a customer -- the table is given away?? Why would someone do that?? I was so upset at what happened - they tried to compensate with some free Haagen daas ice cream and one tea. I didn't even ask for that or drink their tea or eat their ice cream. Don't need that. This place is basically you serve yourself which is why there is no tip. We ordered: 1) lamb clear noodle stew - decent!
