This place is awesome! It's half a live music venue and half some of the best Gansu Chinese food you'll ever have! (And they're excellent at preparing lamb, no gaminess at all) We got the: #2 Night Market Beef Chow Mein #4 Spicy Grilled Lamb #5 Gansu Spicy Hot Pot As someone who didn't know much about Gansu food except Lanzhou Beef noodle this place blew my socks off. Maybe the best Chinese bbq I had as the lamb skewers were juicy, tender and flavorful. Even better than Shandong Shao Cao imo! The beef chow mein was excellent as well with a delicious umami tomato sauce. Couldn't stop eating it and the noodles were perfectly chewy. Wife loved the spicy hot pot and it was more unique and peppery. (I'm not the biggest fan of dry or wet hot pot but the one here was massive and tasty) In our hour here we got to hear some beautiful keyboard as well as some jazzy saxophone! The owners quite unique as he made a place where people can eat and enjoy music and the restaurant has great acoustics! I also saw he takes the time to talk to every table. Def loves what he does and sharing his regions food. Another unique thing is that this restaurant is self serve and they don't charge tips so it's great value and a great place to roll with your friends or family. One of my top Chinese restaurants in USA! (The chow mein tomato sauce is seriously like crack! Couldn't stop eating it)

Yumm! They have a halal certification at the very front which is nice. The ambiance of this restaurant is very chill, I can imagine it's different at night when there is live music! I got the lamb burger (spicy) which was not very spicy, but flavored amazingly! It looks small but is overflowing with lamb. I love lamb so I didn't notice any "game-y" taste, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Service is simple, you order through QR code and drinks are self serve. No service charge or tip necessary.

I only had a chance to take the picture of the rice bowl while my son had started enjoying Lamb skewers

Casual dining, no tipping, and no service fee -- very easygoing and stress-free. Most importantly, the food is delicious! This place is definitely for lamb lovers! There are so many options to choose from that it was hard to decide. I ended up having the Aipapa Lamb Rice Bowl, while my son ordered the lamb skewers along with a kids' meal that included chicken nuggets and fish fillets. The lamb was prepared in very different ways, but both dishes were delicious. We really enjoyed the food and the relaxed atmosphere. We'll definitely come back and try some of the other dishes!

Every dish features generous portions at reasonable prices. While 99% of restaurants nowadays charge high tips on top of everything, this place advertises no tips and no service fees--a true model of industry integrity. The owner says that except for the Yellow River water, all ingredients, techniques, and flavors are brought authentically from Northwestern China straight to Southern California. I have tried several Chinese BBQ spots in SoCal, but this seems to be the only one where every item is Halal Certified. The chili peppers come from Gansu, Northwestern China, offering rich aroma without overwhelming heat. Even the highest spice level here is roughly equivalent to a mild spice level at a Taiwanese hotpot or Sichuan restaurant. Three street food items allow you to choose your spice level: extra spicy, medium spicy, or mild. All other dishes default to regular spice. I choose mild (about a 1-out-of-10 spice level), so anyone sensitive to spice can enjoy the food with complete peace of mind. Aipapa Pulled Lamb Leg ($14.99): Out of all the dishes, my absolute favorite is this lamb leg, which is served without heavy spices or chili powder. Paired with raw garlic, sliced onions, and cumin powder, it delivers a straightforward, satisfying flavor. The lamb comes in generous portions with zero gamey odor. It brings to mind Xiao Feng from Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (天龍八部的蕭峰), heartily enjoying his meat and drink. Lanzhou Potato Noodles ($12.00): The restaurant's original signature dish. Served in a massive bowl that easily feeds two, these wide noodles come loaded with sesame, peanuts, minced meat, and a marinated egg. Lanzhou Hot Lamb Sandwich ($11.99): Served fresh and hot, the blend of spices, melted fat, and warm textures is at its absolute best. It is a creative and unique way to enjoy grilled lamb--essentially a roasted lamb sandwich. Spicy Grilled Lamb, 6 pcs ($11.99): Dine-in only. Metal skewers prevent this item from being packed for takeout as-is (though you can slide the meat off into a container). As I am busy taking photos, the skewers cool down, but the owner kindly takes them back to the kitchen to reheat. Wild West Beef Short Ribs & Fries ($19.99): A new addition to the menu featuring fried short ribs paired with fries. The short ribs are pre-boned and cut into bite-sized pieces, making them easy to chew. Heineken Non-Alcoholic Beer: A great choice for those who want a drink without worrying about driving, or Muslim guests adhering to alcohol restrictions. Sweet Fermented Rice Milk Tea ($8.99): Made with fermented highland barley, this unique beverage pairs beautifully with milk tea. Taking a sip after a bite of meat cleanses the palate of residual flavors, making each subsequent bite taste even better--much like eating pickled ginger between pieces of sushi. Live singers perform every night starting at 7 PM, with Thursday and Saturday evenings being the most vibrant. Menu Items & History The business originally starts as a roadside stall selling potato noodles near Rowland Heights, moves to a small shop in Hacienda Heights, and eventually relocates to its current spot in October 2025. Located right next to Yi Fang Fruit Tea, this location is a highly competitive dining hotspot in Rowland Heights with frequent turnover: first Friendship BBQ, then Ma's Kitchen, and now Aipapa Hot Burger. Coincidentally, all three happen to be BBQ establishments.

Sooooooo yummy! I ordered the soup and skewers, and they were both so good. The soup was warm and flavorful, and the skewers were perfectly seasoned and really tasty. Such a good lunch combo。filling but not too heavy. Definitely a great choice for lunch, and I'd order this again!

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Everything we ordered was flavorful and satisfying. Overall, a great place for a meal, and I'd definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

Walked in and was surprised they were running a live band. Like you're in Western China in the middle of the desert eating Cumin Spicy Lamb and drinking lamb soup, but Dwayne Johnson descends with a Yukelele and starts singing random songs by Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Cyndi Lauper and Teresa Teng. But yes the new item on the menu, Gansu Lomo Saltado with Lamb Racks, not bad though, a little on the dry side, which is why I got the soup with it. Would be nice though if they and a braised version with sauces drenched on Fries...that be bomb. 但還是不錯吃。 今晚坐位比較奇葩一點,旁邊正妹搞得我不好意思那相機拍演唱會。GG.

Very tasty food. The spicy fries with lamb is huge. The noodle soup is top notch. Definitely coming back again

My wife and I eat here fairly frequently. We've been patrons since their original location in Hacienda Heights. The food here is just exceptional. We can't give the place enough praise. The lamb dishes here are exquisite. They just know how to make it so packed with flavor that we crave it quite frequently. The beef is equally great too but the lamb here is just next level. We've never tried anything like it. I think to truly enjoy the place, order any of their lamb dishes. This is how you'll gauge the quality of meat and their cooking. Ordering something that's not their specialty and reviewing that feels like reviewing ice cream from a non-specialty ice cream shop. The overall service here is great. There's a reason why we're always here. The ambiance here is nice too. Live music, instruments all over, and a beautiful wall of all the customers who visit. We've seen the expansion of that wall too. Seeing the difference between the size when we first started going to their original spot to how it is now always makes us smile when we visit. I can't recommend this place enough. This is without a doubt, our most frequented restaurant.

This lamb leg is delicious! I really like it, and the price is reasonable.
    Xiongfei T.

The lamb leg was tender enough; although it didn't fall apart at the slightest touch, it was easy to eat. The price is reasonable, and they specifically stated that tipping is not required. The atmosphere is great! They also have live singing performances here on weekend afternoons!

Live music, delicious food, no tip! What more can you ask for?! The type of cuisine is spicy and sour and super flavorful. It's halal so mostly featuring lamb and beef. We had the skewers, the lamb sandwhich, potato noodles, potato's, and crawfish over rice. Staff is friendly and this place has a real sense of community. It's a rare gem very nice to have in Rowland.

You have the raw beef carpaccio, the salad with sauce on top adds flavor to it, and finally it has the Lays chips on top to give it some crunchy texture. Japanese Wagyu Sukiyaki - My favorite thing from this evening. They do such a great show of preparing this for you and you get a dipping plate with a raw egg to get all the flavors in this. The sukiyaki sauce in the bowl was super flavorful and strong. Wagyu Short Rib - This definitely tastes better using the spices they give for your meal. But with the dipping spices, it definitely brings out the saltiness the meat needs Wagyu Bibimbap - The staff will mix this in front of you and make sure all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed so you can get a little bit of seaweed, wagyu, sauce, and rice in every bite. Of course by the time we got to this, we were way too full so I only got a few bites in before I had to call it and to-go the rest. Mentaiko Buttered Scallops - This was amazingly creamy. However I did make a mistake by adding this to the chef's recommendation. The Chef's Recommendation is curated where everything compliments each other. The mentaiko buttered scallops had their usual strong salty taste and super creamy due to the butter, but it was too strong when added to the Chef's Recommendation that I could barely eat it during the meal. Our next return, I will go with just the chef's recommendation to avoid messing up the balance. But the chef's recommendation was curated very well if you're not sure what to get! 【Background】 Sunday, July 26, 2026, 8:15 PM…read more Dolan's Uyghur Cuisine has three locations in Irvine, Alhambra, and Rowland Heights [1]. I decided to finally visit and chose the Rowland Heights location since it's conveniently located next to a 99 Ranch, and I wanted to go grocery shopping after. Dolan's has received many accolades such as winning #63 on the L.A. Times 101 Best Restaurants in 2025 (#44 in 2024) and received an 8.0 rating from the Infatuation [2, 3]. If you're curious like me, the word "Dolan" refers to a people or region of what is now the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and refers to an earlier culture and civilization in the region [4]. The restaurant is comfortable, not too many tables. Since I was eating dinner pretty late, there was only one other party finishing up their meal. The walls are decorated with plates, musical instruments, and trinkets that I'm assuming are associated with the Uyghur culture. A huge mural near the back features comically muscular men playing musical instruments with #GoogleUyghurs on the top right corner, referring to the oppression of Uyghur and other Turkic minorities in XUAR. The Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide published its report "Eight Years On, China's Repression of the Uyghurs Remains Dire" in February 2025, and I thought it was a great resource that provides a thorough background on the matter [5]. You can also read more on the "Persecution of Uyghurs in China" Wikipedia page [6]. 【Food】 While reading through the restaurant's reviews (on Yelp, Reddit, other sites), many of the same dishes were constantly being recommended: Big Plate Chicken (available in bone-in and boneless), Uyghur goshnaan, lamb kebab, Uyghur polo, and laghman. I've also seen a few recommendations for the spiced blossom tea, but I didn't want an entire pot just for myself. Sadly, the Rowland Heights location doesn't have the Small Plate Chicken option that the other two locations offer, and I thought the Big Plate Chicken would be too much food. You can't go wrong with a rice dish, so I ended up ordering the: * Uyghur Polo ($19.95) The dish was absolutely delicious, probably the best thing I've eaten so far this year. The savory leg of lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and paired perfectly with the sweetness from the soft carrots and onions. Not gamey at all. There was a sheen of oil on every rice kernel. The rice was perfectly spiced with cumin seeds speckled throughout. I wasn't super hungry when I walked in since I had a late lunch, but after one bite, I was addicted. A small side of chili crisp is provided for a little heat. After looking at the description online and older reviews, it seems the polo recipe has been modified. For example, in the past, lamb chunks were used instead of a leg, and chickpeas and raisins used to be included. 【Service】 Service was good. The employee was friendly and attentive, albeit a bit quiet. Food came out 10 minutes after ordering. 【Parking】 The parking situation at this plaza is usually pretty hectic since there are a ton of popular restaurants. However, I visited late on a Sunday, so there were a decent number of empty spots. ---------- [1] https://www.instagram.com/dolans_uyghur_cuisine/ [2] https://www.latimes.com/food/list/101-best-restaurants-los-angeles [3] https://www.theinfatuation.com/los-angeles/reviews/dolans-uyghur-cuisine [4] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolan_people [5] https://www.ushmm.org/genocide-prevention/countries/china/report-eight-years-on-chinas-repression-of-the-uyghurs-remains-dire [6] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Uyghurs_in_China

It was the most private and intimate date we ever experienced. It was so thoughtful and sweet of them to still take us as guests. They did not rush us and was so attentive and friendly throughout the entire experience - seriously unmatched service The chef making the pasta table side said we came at the perfect time because it does get extremely busy The appetizers, main course and dessert were all a hit. Everything so flavorful and hit all the right taste buds. We are coming back to try the mozzarella sticks and pizza with our kids Probably one of the best restaurant experiences we've ever had both on service and food taste

There is plenty of parking in their lot or on the street. We ended up talking a lot and our poor server came back often to see if we were ready for drinks or appetizers. Thank you for your patience. We ended up splitting a bottle of wine and ordered the caprese. The caprese was so fresh and even had pesto in the middle. It was a great start to dinner. We were even given rolls with butter as well. We actually chose this place because they have a cheese wheel and no one ended up ordering that. They also were very attentive and refilled our water without us asking. I got the rigatoni a las vodka with chicken, and my two other friends got the baked rigatoni and the fettuccine Alfredo. Our dishes were delicious and perfectly seasoned. We also ordered the chocolate Gelato and tiramasu for dessert. Those were a perfect night cap to our dinner and catch up session. The restaurant is deceptively big and had a whole back area, I am guessing for large parties. It was very clean and we were able to catch up without any issues. I definitely recommend coming here for the food and excellent service.
