I have mixed feelings about this movie theater. It has been around since I was a little kid. I have fond memories of going here with my brothers. We still joke about the "Mini Cine" now that we're grown up and scattered across the country. It doesn't really compete with the bigger cinemas like Showcase or AMC. But that's not its intended market. Its niche is that it shows slightly older movies (movies released weeks ago) for a discounted price. Cine 1-2-3-4 is the area's only remaining "bargain" theater. Well, I haven't visited this place for years, up until two weeks ago. Boy was I disappointed. I might have been able to overlook the dimly lit and unkept parking lot and the uncomfortable seats if only the price of my ticket was much less. My price was $9 . I was surprised. And it's Cash Only. That's only $1 less than the bigger cinemas. Big woop-de-do. In my opinion, it's not worth the extra risk of having your car stolen (the cinema is right next to the "projects"). So the extra nicities of the other large cinemas are probably worth an extra dollar. They have better seating, better projectors, better parking, etc.. Typically I go to the Regal Cinemas in Branford, but this one time I wanted to watch a particular movie that was released months ago and only Cine 1-2-3-4 was playing it. That's really the only reason I will go to this cinema from now on. Its discounted price isn't really an attraction for me. read more

I have a weird kind of like for this theater. The crowd that it draws is definitely a notch up from what you'd expect at a modern theater. That is, there aren't little punks everywhere being disrespectful and distracting during a movie. With that being said, remember that you are not going to get the best sound or seating or picture that you would at a newer facility. Seating is limited in that the best seats in the center of the theater are given up for an aisle. It is good for catching some movies which may be on their way out of other theaters; giving you a bit more time to see them if you needed it. This theater is for the old school die hard film fans. Once you walk in the door you will be transported back to 1985. That was probably the last time they updated anything. They divided two auditoriums into four. It's a very bizarre set up. I would suggest arriving early to try get the one of the few good seats. On a positive note, they probably have the best popcorn I have ever tasted. And they only project film. Cash only. read more

A hidden gem that is the best description of Cinima 1234. This is a neighborhood theater from the last century. They show a mixture of films ranging from current, commercial offerings to smaller, less known (but still good) ones. Park a few steps from the parking lot, good for the disabled, and walk ten steps from the ticket sales to each of the four theatres. If you go on weekdays, there is always plenty of room. To be honest, I like the Cinima 1234 as it is: cozy and friendly, never crowded and GREAT, FRESH BUTTERED POPCIRN! But, if more people don't come it too may go the way of small cinimas. I had made SUCH an effort to conquer my fear of driving in the snow thus was soooo devastated when I DiD, but then arrived to find out they only accept cash. The manager said... "I'm so sorry, can you come back and pay tomorrow or the next day?" to which i said "uh, AB-solutely." So in I went to see the movie which was fabulous and, when i came out?...., the staff had cleared all cars in the parking lot of the several inches of accumulated snow. A small theater with rude staff in the middle of nowhere, which does not take credit cards, only cash, but has no cash machine, featuring small screens accompanied by poor sound quality, and uncomfortable seats. The great majority of patrons are for whatever reason elderly, which they cater through by offering substantial senior discounts (no student discounts). Unpleasant pre-screen waiting area. Overall an unusually bad cinema, but priced as as if an expensive modern cinema. read more

Had a great time here but it all depends on what you're looking for in a movie theater. Yes, it's smaller, not one of the big multiplexes. Yes, it's cash only. However, it's the best movie theater popcorn I've ever had (and I'm a huge popcorn fan). It reminds me a lot of the tiny one theater place in my hometown growing up, has a certain charm that you don't get at the big places. It's been a couple of weeks since I went, but I think it was about $7 for the ticket and about $7.50 for a medium popcorn and bottle of water. Not sure if they have discount days or such. read more

Step back in time and relive FRESH popcorn with REAL butter, as well as movies for grown-ups, circa 1970 architecture and fixtures, and the lack of multiplex ambiance. Also missing: 3D and stadium seating, thank goodness. read more

This theater has been upgraded since the last time we were here - new, more comfortable seats and better lighting in the parking lot. The movies aren't a great bargain, but they show films that you can't see anywhere else in CT. Overall a good experience read more

We like this theater despite the fact that it's quite a ways from our home. We go there because they show movies that aren't shown in our local theater. It's quaint. My only complaint is that they don't have a handicapped stall in the rest room. Most of the time I see older and elderly people and wonder how they can use the facilities. read more

I went during a snowstorm, and the manager was so nice. I came out of the movie, and he was brushing off everyone's cars and had done it multiple times during the movie. I didn't even have to brush my car off to drive home! That is thinking outside the box for customer service. read more

I like this theater very much, everything about it........ except one thing, the projectionist turns on the bright overhead theater lights, as soon as the credits start to roll....... which I say is too soon, the viewer needs a little time to wind down from the drama, and sometimes study the credits, and sometime the director adds a little extra, many times now I am caught in the bright lights crying at the end of film.... The projectionist says I am the only one who has ever complained about it. The Manager said don't come back, if you don't like it..... We typically see every film they show there... Turning the lights on before the film is over, and sticking to it, just caused them to loose about 1200.00 a year from me and my wife.. read more

This place would be perfect if the tickets were $4. Unfortunately, tickets are $9. Nine dollars -- are you kidding? In addition to the small screen and uncomfortable seats, our film was blurry and out of focus (also a poor quality print!). Recommend avoidance. read more

The price seems a bit high for this old movie theater. If you like sitting in the middle of the theater, you're SOL because there is an aisle straight down the middle of the theater. Also, as you may imagine the sound quality isn't the greatest. I thought going to an older theater would be kind of romantic and fun, but reality hit and I was just sitting in an old theater hoping that the stickiness of the floor was just due to spilled soda. read more

it is a little weird when you think about it.. these tiny theaters take up the entire center (or where there should be seats) with an aisle. i want to sit front and center and you cant. there are no center seats. really i dont think there are any good seats in this place, which is a bummer because the server fresh popcorn, seem like nice people, and they get movies other people dont. its sort of a main stream art theater. the place feels like a relic, and the parking lot feels a bit dodgy (but i dont really think i would call it ghetto). the 'dont leave valuables in your car' sign makes me worry a little maybe. read more

*CASH ONLY* We were in the area and they had a show time that worked for us, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Unfortunately, tickets were $9.50 for a 2:30 Saturday show, it's CASH ONLY, and we didn't have $20 on us, so no opportunity to try the much-talked-about popcorn (or experience the sticky floors). This struggling theater offers films that the big cinemas ignore. The staff is friendly and the place is old, but clean. The prices are reasonable. I support this theater as often as I can because it is not part of a big chain pushing commercial movies, but instead, chooses to show thoughtful films that have won notable artistic awards. read more

Life before the mega-movie-moguls. How refreshing. Cash only (takes guts at a time when the CC firms are trying to get rid of cash), real popcorn actually made on site, easy parking and highway access, no fake pretensions, reasonable prices. It is what it is, and knows what it is not. The mega places try to create an "experience" and charge you for it. C'mon, its just a movie. That's what you're there for. NOT $15 popcorn, "exclusive" movie club and stadium seats. OMG, where is the "stadium?" Its not a play, and not a theme park. ahh, Mini Cine as those who grew up in the area call it.like another reviewer i have fond memories of seeing a lot of movies here as a kid, before the showcase cinemas opened in north haven. this is where we saw movies when i was a kid ..back to the future, rocky 4, ET, return of the jedi...great memories..as for now, its kinda run down, costs too much and is in area that has become pretty seedy over the years...id opt for a real theater since it wont cost much more, youll have a bigger screen, safer area ...the days when lines would be around the corner to see a movie here (mid 80s haha) are over read more

I won't lie, I'm a big fan of this little theater. The people are nice, the popcorn is the best in the area (actually, anywhere that I've been. Ever) and it's lovely to get to talk to the person who actually schedules what movies they show! Do you know how rare that is in this day and age of large theater chains? I actually wait for movies to show up here to see them. I feel waaaaay better about spending money here then most of the other theaters in the area (the exceptions being Madison Arts Cinema and Niantic cinemas. Two other independent cinemas.) It looks a bit run down but is as clean as any newer theater I've visited (cleaner in some instances!) and like I said: the popcorn is incredible. As I type this I'm making plans to see Quartet :) Only problem I have is that it's cash only but really that's a minor inconvenience. Check it out if you get the chance. read more

The other reviewers are idiots. This is a great cinema with great popcorm and milk duds. Also, the picutrues are in excellent focus and the sound system is awesome. I would highly recommend this movie heatre to anyone. The manager and candy clerks are the best and the movies are top shelf. Definately worth a trip from Waterbury or Stratford to save a few bucks. read more

We used to go this theater regularly when we lived in the area, and though we have moved, we try and get there when we can. The staff is wonderful, there is ample parking, and the location is fabulous. For those that have complaints about the price, it is less than other theaters in the area. Many of the theaters in the area, only offer a matinee fee for the first show; this theater offers matinee prices until 6:00 p.m. or thereabouts. Also, in response to it not comparing with other mainstream theaters, it might not in terms of size; however, they always offer an array of quality movies. We love Cine 1-2-3-4, and it is still one of our favorite theaters in CT. We highly recommend this unique theater. read more

Really astonished at all the negative comments-I adore this movie theatre! It gets the best movies around in a timely fashion; has absolutely the best popcorn in the greater New Haven area and has a great diner across the street where you can get a delicious meal right before the show. For me, the theatre's slightly funky quality (the theatre of "reduced circumstances") just adds to its charm! Like many of your reviewers, I grew up in the area and love the fact that I can still go to the "mini cimi," just as I did with my dad thirty years ago. read more

any time I've gone to a film at this theater, it never turns out good. the floors are sticky, on the weekends its a teenage haven complete with loud talking and fights. i live in new haven and would gladly go elsewhere to see a movie. read more
